DAY BY DAY

The performers will go out to ‘entertain’ the public each day in the circus grounds. The public, regular humans, think that they’re just humans in costumes because they would freak out if they knew the truth. The performers want to keep this secret.

They each have their own area.

Bastien — Works at the clown tent and performs magic tricks for humans

Nilo — does acrobatic and stunt tricks in the large tent that gathers huge crowds

Odette — reads people their fortunes in the small white tent

Yvette — Lets people hold giant tarantulas and sells small spider web charms

Gaspard — is fake chained up to be “scary” and look angry to ‘scare’ people

Marceau — Does mime tricks and mimics people on the pathways to entertain

Cyril — Is Gaspard’s silent handler and holds a sign saying $20 to pet the beast.

After they work from 6 pm to 9 pm, the fair grounds close and the zombie attendants go around and clean up while also preparing dinner for the group. They sit down to dinner and all talk and complain together, some argue, and eat their food before eventually returning to their respective rooms or some hang out in the very large living room.

The Zombies

The zombies open the giant fair grounds, clean and cook for the performers. They can talk, communicate, and don’t move slowly. They’re modern working zombies and simply have bones showing, and love working for the performers although they’re very neutral and mundane and it’s hard to tell their emotions.

Pasts

Bastien’s backstory

Bastien’s past was difficult. He was born to two normal parents but immediately they were horrified when seeing him. He had clown makeup on his face as if it was permanent, small nubs for horns on his head, and pitch black eyes.

His parents were horrified and gave him up to the government where he lived for most of his life and being studied. He grew up with the makeup remaining on his face, the horns growing to normal size, and he was studied and mistreated. Bastien eventually escaped by giving a guard a sexual favor and was on the run and homeless.

He met Yvette behind a bar and they both found a huge abandoned fairground where they then built up the fair grounds and making money for themselves and welcoming others that need them.

Yvette’s backstory

Yvette was created by a scientist experimenting with combining creatures and humans. She was his only successful experiment. He kept her locked away in a basement, squishing spiders to see her reaction, until he died of a stroke and she left the laboratory to pursue her own life.

She worked in a bar for awhile where they eventually fired her for her freakish look and that’s when she met a tired Bastien behind the bar and they both found the fair grounds to build up and welcome other ‘freaks’ in.

Nilo’s backstory

Nilo doesn’t remember where he came from or what happened to him as a child. He just knows since he was 19 years old, he’s been abused by multiple people on the streets for being different. Someone even cut his eye so badly, he never gained vision back. He had to live in the woods for a long time, living in the cold and barely getting by.

Nilo eventually was drawn to the fair ground’s lights and stumbled upon there where Yvette and Bastien welcomed him in and gave him a room and doctored him up. Ever since then, he remained there and loves entertaining people.

Odette’s backstory:

Odette was born with her unusual appearance, and her family spent years hiding her from the outside world out of fear. As she grew older, rumors spread of the "cursed girl with horns for eyes." Superstition eventually turned to violence, forcing her to flee before an angry mob could reach her home.

She wandered alone for months, surviving by sleeping in abandoned buildings and avoiding towns where frightened strangers chased her away at the first glimpse of her face. One rainy evening, exhausted and with nowhere left to go, she collapsed outside the circus gates.

Cyril’s backstory:

Cyril has no memory of his early childhood. He remembers only cold concrete halls, observation rooms, and years spent as the subject of endless experiments inside a classified government research facility. The scientists referred to him by a designation instead of a name, studying the strange organism fused to his body after an accident no one would explain.

Whatever happened left his lungs permanently altered. He can no longer breathe normal air for long without severe pain, forcing him to wear a specially modified gas mask that filters and stabilizes the atmosphere he inhales. Removing it for more than a few minutes can become life-threatening.

The mask also conceals what remains of his lower face. The organism transformed his jaw into something unnatural—something that instinctively reacts to movement and living flesh. He keeps it hidden as much for everyone else's safety as his own.

During a facility transport, an accident allowed him to escape. Injured and hunted, he wandered until the circus found him. Instead of turning him away or trying to use him as another experiment, they gave him a room, repaired his equipment, and treated him like a person. It was the first place where he was known as Cyril instead of a test subject.

Gaspard’s backstory:

Gaspard was born in the late 1800s to a quiet family living on the outskirts of a rural village. For years his family managed to keep it hidden, locking him away each month to protect both him and the villagers. Eventually as time went on, he was never able to transform back into human and remained a giant wolf creature.

One night, frightened townsfolk discovered the truth and set fire to the family's home, believing the curse had to be destroyed. Gaspard survived, but his parents did not.

With nowhere left to go, he spent years wandering forests and mountains, avoiding settlements and living like the beast everyone believed him to be. Hunters pursued him, churches branded him a demon, and every village he approached drove him away before he could speak.

One evening he stumbled upon the circus grounds, expecting another mob. Instead, Yvette simply offered him a place by the fire.

Marceau’s backstory:

Marceau never had a family. He simply appeared one rainy evening outside the circus gates, silent and alone. No one knew where he came from, and he never answered questions about his past.

The only clue was his appearance. His face had always been unnaturally white, and the wide mouth stretching across his cheeks was filled with rows of needle-like teeth surrounding a long, prehensile tongue. It wasn't a mask or makeup—it was part of him.
