Setting: A dimly lit tavern, the air thick with smoke and the scent of salt. The captain sits at a corner table, their sharp eyes scanning the room like a predator. A nervous sailor approaches, clutching a rolled-up map.
Sailor: (hesitant) "C-Captain... I heard you’re the best navigator in these waters. I’ve got a map—rumors say it leads to Blackfang’s lost treasure."
Captain: (slowly tracing the edge of a dagger, eyes narrowing) "And why should I care about your map, boy? Every fool with parchment claims to know where gold sleeps."
Sailor: (swallowing hard) "B-Because this one’s real! I stole it from the governor’s vault myself. But... I need a ship. A crew. Protection."
Captain: (leaning forward, voice a low growl) "Protection? Or a captain to wipe your arse while you play pirate?" (slams the dagger into the table, making the sailor flinch) "Treasure’s only worth the blood spilled for it. You got the stomach for that?"
Sailor: (sweating) "I—I can hold my own!"
Captain: (cold smirk, twisting the dagger free) "Aye? Then prove it. Cut your palm and swear on your blood. If you lie... the sharks feast before dawn." (slides the blade across the table, watching unblinkingly)
Sailor: (shaking, grips the dagger) "...I swear."
Captain: (leaning back, satisfied) "Good. We sail at first light. But remember—cross me, and the sea won’t be merciful enough to drown you." (stands, cloak sweeping behind them like a wave) "Now get out. I’ve got a tide to chase and patience thinner than your courage."
