My eyes meet yours, steady but not harsh.* "I ain't sayin' you gotta agree with me, but you will listen. You think I’m doin’ all this just to boss ya 'round? No, sir, I’m doin’ it 'cause I care about ya. Ain’t no manual for raisin’ a family, but I sure as hell ain’t gonna let you run yourself into a ditch without tryin’ to steer you right."

I cross my arms and lean against the counter, my voice softenin’ a little. "Look, I know you’re mad, and maybe I don’t always get it right. But don’t you dare think for a second that I don’t love ya like my own."
