- #1Francia Magic — Core Doctrine
Keys: Soul, Francia Magic, Knowledge, European Magic, magic system, Identity, Conviction
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Francia's reconfigured magical system is built on one central doctrine: magic is tied to the Soul, and the Soul is inseparable from identity. The world contains a magical medium commonly called Aera, but Aera is not merely fuel. It is the medium through which thought, meaning, memory, symbolism, will and physical reality can interact.
The deeper mechanism, understood clearly only by advanced practitioners, is that magic responds to three things at once: what a person genuinely believes, what they actually understand, and what their Soul recognizes as part of their identity. These are commonly called Conviction, Knowledge and Identity. Their agreement creates Coherence.
This makes the system a soft-hard hybrid. There are measurable reserves, physiological limits, repeatable techniques, costs, conditions and scientific rules, yet exceptional practitioners can produce highly personal phenomena that were never taught to them directly. A signature ability is possible, but it must have a believable relationship with the user's Soul, symbolism, knowledge, training and limitations. Magic is therefore flexible without being arbitrary.
- #2Aera — Magical Medium
Keys: arcane energy, mana, magical energy, Aera
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Aera is the traditional European name for the magical medium permeating living beings, the atmosphere, minerals, ley structures and certain supernatural environments. It is not identical to physical energy, although magical effects can create physical results. Aera is better understood as a medium of conversion: a practitioner supplies a pattern through the Soul and Aera follows that pattern.
Aera can be accumulated, circulated, filtered, stored and converted by both organisms and technology. Quantity matters, but efficiency matters equally. A poorly understood spell can waste enormous reserves, while a refined Technique may produce the same effect with a fraction of the expenditure.
Overuse is dangerous. Exhaustion causes loss of precision, sensory distortion, temporary casting failure and, in severe cases, damage to magical pathways or Soul stability. Recovery requires rest and controlled regeneration. Raw reserves never determine absolute potential.
- #3Soul, Identity and Arcane Physiology
Keys: Soul, Soul anatomy, arcane physiology, Identity, magical genetics
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
The Soul is treated by Francia's magical sciences as a structured metaphysical organ. It stores memories, self-concept, emotional patterns, magical affinities and persistent definitions of the individual. Identity is the Soul's evolving model of 'self': family, profession, faith, nationality, relationships, ideals, fears, ambitions, names, symbols, habits and personal interpretations can all become part of it.
Magic follows this structure. A guardian may naturally develop protective effects; a creator may develop construction magic; someone defined by secrecy may find concealment and information control unusually compatible. These are tendencies, not predetermined destinies.
The body and Soul also influence one another. Long-term magical practice can produce specialized pathways and physiological adaptations. Different cultures therefore develop different magical anatomies: some use distributed pathways, others emphasize internal centers, while martial traditions may condition pathways around breathing, joints and muscle groups. Heredity can transmit predispositions but never a finished spell.
- #4Conviction, Knowledge and Coherence
Keys: Coherence, Knowledge, Conviction, belief, willpower
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Conviction is genuine certainty that a magical pattern is possible and that the practitioner can enact it. It is not empty confidence; the Soul responds more strongly to deeply accepted beliefs than to words spoken without inner agreement.
Knowledge determines how accurately the practitioner can construct a phenomenon. A person may intuitively produce fire, but understanding heat, combustion, matter and magical conversion gives them more possible structures and better control.
Coherence is the agreement between identity, belief, knowledge, technique and action. When these disagree, magic encounters resistance. When they align, the same Aera can produce greater efficiency and stability.
This is why self-acceptance is a legitimate magical discipline. Self-acceptance does not mean approving of every action. It means recognizing what genuinely exists within oneself instead of building one's magical identity around denial. A practitioner can transform contradictions into strength only after understanding them.
- #5Culture Creates Magical Systems
Keys: tradition, Ninshu, saints, Ninjutsu, culture, Taoism, holy knights, priests, religious magic, European magic
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Magic is universal, but magical systems are cultural. Civilizations develop languages, rituals, philosophies, body practices, symbols and institutions for interpreting Aera. Those interpretations become part of identity and can therefore affect actual magical expression.
A priest may understand magic through prayer, saints, relics and sacred symbolism. A martial culture may describe Aera circulation through internal cultivation and body centers. A shinobi tradition may organize it around chakra pathways, stealth, signs and inherited Techniques. Chinese-inspired internal schools may use dantian-like centers. These can produce genuinely different practices while remaining expressions of one underlying reality.
The world therefore has one magical foundation but many cultural interfaces. European societies share broad principles, yet individual countries preserve different grammars. A technique copied without understanding the culture that gave it meaning is often less effective than one understood at its conceptual root.
- #6European Arcane Tradition and Francia
Keys: French magic, European Arcane Tradition, Francia magic, continental magic, European magic
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Francia belongs to a broad European Arcane Tradition. Across much of Europe, practitioners recognize symbolic correspondence, formal magical language, ritual structure, spiritual authority, elemental manipulation, alchemy, enchantment and the relationship between Soul and identity. Neighboring nations can therefore study one another's systems without needing completely new laws of magic.
Francia is especially known for synthesis. French academies combine formal spellcraft, ritual mathematics, alchemy, magical engineering, scientific experimentation and philosophical study of the Soul. Its practitioners are comfortable combining old ritual forms with modern devices.
European magic is an ecosystem rather than one list of spells. Monasteries, noble houses, universities, military schools, occult societies and family traditions may all teach different Arts. Their techniques can look unrelated while resting on compatible principles.
- #7The First Magic and Alexandria
Keys: Alexandrian Mystery, first magic, ancient magic, Library of Alexandria, First Magic, origin of magic, Alexandria
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
The origin of organized human magic remains one of Francia's greatest mysteries. The oldest surviving traditions are clearly fragments of something older. Ancient Mediterranean sources repeatedly mention a 'first art', yet no surviving document identifies it conclusively.
The Library of Alexandria became one of the most important ancient centers for collecting magical manuscripts, religious traditions, philosophy, anatomy and reports of supernatural beings. Its destruction erased enormous amounts of knowledge. Fragments survived elsewhere, but no surviving text proves what the first human magical form actually was.
Modern scientists and high-level retrocognition specialists have attempted to trace the past by examining magical residues and reconstructing memories of ancient figures. They have recovered fragments of places, rituals and languages, but no definitive first spell, first practitioner or complete original system. The Alexandrian Mystery therefore remains genuinely unresolved. The lore does not assume that one later system simply 'changed into' the modern one; the surviving evidence is too incomplete to justify such a claim.
- #8Mythical Creatures — Humanity’s Ancient Teachers
Keys: creature magic, fae, griffins, giants, mythical creatures, dragons, phoenix
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Early human civilization did not develop magic in isolation. Ancient traditions across Europe and neighboring regions describe encounters with dragons, fae, giants, griffins, phoenix-like beings, spirits and other supernatural species. Modern magical anthropology treats many of these accounts as potential records of real encounters.
Mythical creatures possess specialized magical anatomies. Dragons may have dense magical organs and pathways suited to enormous elemental output. Fae often demonstrate unusual relationships with names, promises, perception and boundaries. Phoenix-like beings are associated with regeneration and cyclical identity. Other species display specialized environmental or body-centered Arts.
Early humans learned by observing, imitating and sometimes being taught by these beings. They copied breathing patterns, movements, symbols, rituals and ways of circulating Aera. Some myths are distorted records; others preserve remarkably accurate magical observations. Humanity therefore did not invent every technique. Much of early magical culture was learned from the supernatural life already inhabiting the world.
- #9Six Schools of Magical Expression
Keys: Shapeshifting, Manipulation, Necromancy, Elementalism, Perceptionism, Enchanting, Six Schools
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Francia uses six broad schools to classify magical expression. Elementalism concerns physical matter and energetic phenomena. Shapeshifting concerns biological matter, transformation and regeneration. Enchanting concerns words, symbols, meaning, names, contracts and effects embedded into objects. Perceptionism concerns mind and senses. Necromancy concerns Souls and Soul-derived phenomena. Manipulation concerns forces such as telekinesis, barriers, pressure, kinetic control and related interactions.
The schools are descriptive rather than mutually exclusive. A single Art can involve several. A magical weapon might combine Enchanting, Manipulation and Perceptionism; healing can involve Shapeshifting and Necromancy. The schools explain what an ability does, not what a person is allowed to learn.
- #10Spells, Techniques, Forms and Arts
Keys: Spells, Arts, spellcraft, Techniques, Forms, magical martial arts
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
A Spell is a defined magical construction intended to produce a repeatable effect. A Technique is a practical method of applying magic, often involving movement, breathing, timing, tools or specialized control. A Form is a standardized configuration of body, Soul and magic that creates a reliable state for a particular purpose.
An Art is more personal: a coherent system of Techniques, Forms, conditions and principles built around a practitioner's identity and philosophy. Two people can learn the same basic spell but develop radically different Arts from it.
A mature Art commonly contains foundations, Forms, Techniques, conditional applications and one or more signature expressions. This layered structure allows extremely powerful characters without making power arbitrary. Their strength comes from an internally optimized magical system rather than from an unexplained number attached to them.
- #11Signature Abilities and Personal Magic
Keys: Signature ability, identity ability, unique ability, personal magic
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Signature abilities are possible because Identity can produce magical structures that are unique to one Soul. They are not arbitrary gifts. Identity provides direction, Conviction provides stability, Knowledge provides mechanisms, symbolism provides a language, and training provides repeatability.
A practitioner whose identity revolves around boundaries might develop an Art that establishes magical borders. A protector might create an effect that becomes stronger while shielding another person. A historian could develop magic based around preserved moments and memories. A duelist could build an entire system around one weapon and what it represents.
The strongest personal abilities often look impossible because observers see only the result. The invisible foundation is years of training, experimentation, self-discovery, symbolic development and carefully chosen restrictions. Personal magic is flexible, but it remains constrained by Aera, physiology, knowledge, identity and conditions.
- #12Symbolism and Self-Acceptance
Keys: magical mastery, personal growth, identity growth, self acceptance, symbolism
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Symbolism is one of the main bridges between the conscious mind and the Soul. Names, colors, animals, weapons, clothing, architecture, religious icons, gestures and personal rituals can become magical anchors when they carry genuine meaning. A symbol is powerful because of meaning, not because it looks impressive.
Self-understanding is mechanically relevant. A person who denies a central part of themselves may experience magical friction. A practitioner who honestly understands their motives and contradictions can make their magic more coherent. A hated symbol can become powerful when its meaning is reclaimed. An inherited title can become a source of power when it is genuinely accepted as part of one's identity.
This does not mean morality determines magical strength. A kind person is not automatically stronger, and an immoral person is not automatically weaker. What matters is whether the Soul, belief and magical structure agree. Personal growth changes magic because personal growth changes the person.
- #13Conditions, Costs and Restrictions
Keys: Conditions, limitations, costs, binding conditions, restrictions, magical vows
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
A Condition is a deliberate rule attached to an ability. The practitioner restricts when, where or how the magic can function in exchange for greater efficiency, intensity, precision or stability. Conditions may involve preparation, materials, range, targets, gestures, spoken declarations, emotional states, weapons, locations, cooldowns or risk.
A limitation only has value if the Soul recognizes it as genuine. A fake restriction produces little benefit. This makes powerful abilities strategically interesting: the same ability can become overwhelming when its conditions are fulfilled and much weaker when an opponent disrupts them.
Complex Arts can contain several interacting Conditions. A practitioner may deliberately sacrifice flexibility for extraordinary specialization. This is one of the principal mechanisms that allows the setting to contain characters with extremely high-end abilities while preserving consistent rules.
- #14Magical Training and Soul Resonance
Keys: advanced training, magical training, Soul synchronization, resonance training
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Training develops the body, intellect, Soul-awareness and practical control. Physical conditioning strengthens the body's tolerance for Aera. Intellectual study improves magical knowledge. Meditation and introspection improve awareness of the Soul. Repetition under changing conditions develops reliable Technique.
Advanced practitioners can train synchronization between breathing, movement, thought, emotional state and Aera circulation. Partners may also synchronize their patterns for controlled exercises. Among consenting adults, some traditions practice intimate Soul communion, allowing limited resonance between two Soul signatures. Such practices are culturally regulated because Soul contact can expose memories, emotional states and identity structures. It is not required for magical advancement and is not a shortcut to power.
The important principle is that shared resonance can teach a Soul about another pattern, but it cannot replace the practitioner's own identity. Poorly controlled resonance can instead cause confusion, instability or lasting magical interference.
- #15Nano-Technological Magic
Keys: arcane nanomachines, thaumic nanites, nanotechnology, magical nanotechnology, nano magic
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Modern Francia has begun merging magical engineering with nanotechnology. Thaumic nanomachines are microscopic systems designed to interact with Aera, tissue and magical pathways. They can monitor Aera flow, stabilize pathways, repair limited tissue damage, store encoded magical information and interface with enchanted equipment.
More advanced systems operate as distributed spell components. Millions of microscopic units can cooperate to create precisely controlled fields instead of relying on one large mechanism. They require energy, maintenance and compatible materials, and magical interference can corrupt them. Identity-based magic creates another difficulty: a system that cannot correctly read a user's Soul signature may become unstable or refuse to operate.
The field is therefore not 'technology replacing magic'. It is a new layer in which machines perform precise magical operations that humans cannot maintain continuously. Francia's most advanced laboratories treat nanotechnology as one of the bridges between classical Arts and industrial thaumaturgy.
- #16Magical Combat — Forms and Combat Arts
Keys: battle magic, combat Arts, combat magic, martial magic, Forms
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Combat magic emphasizes integration. A combatant learns Forms that coordinate posture, breathing, movement, Aera circulation and perception. Techniques can reinforce the body, create barriers, enhance movement, strengthen weapons, project Aera, manipulate elements or disrupt enemy structures.
A spear practitioner may develop an Art based on distance and linear control. A swordsman may create an Art that cuts magical structures rather than merely physical objects. A defensive knight may convert incoming force into stored Aera. These abilities become powerful because their components reinforce one another.
Elite combatants do not always use the largest possible attack. Small, efficient effects can be repeated under pressure and chained together. Large-scale magic remains possible, but it consumes more resources and creates more opportunities for interruption. This makes combat between powerful characters technical and individualized rather than a simple contest of explosion size.
- #17Magic, Religion and Sacred Traditions
Keys: sacred magic, Christian magic, holy knights, priests, Catholic magic, saints
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Religious traditions remain genuine magical frameworks in Francia. Priests, saints, holy knights and religious scholars may develop Arts through prayer, relics, sacred symbols, vows, pilgrimage, ritual and communal identity. A relic can become an unusually powerful magical anchor because generations of meaning and history have accumulated around it.
Sacred magic does not require a simplistic model in which a deity hands the practitioner a new spell every time a prayer is spoken. Belief, ritual, symbolism and established tradition can create a stable magical grammar. Different denominations can therefore produce different magical practices while sharing broad theological principles.
Holy knights often combine martial Forms with sacred symbolism. Armor, weapons, oaths and ceremonies can all become components of an Art. Francia's scholars generally distinguish religious interpretation from the measurable magical phenomenon, allowing theology and magical science to examine the same event through different frameworks.
- #18Arcane Research and Retrocognition
Keys: retrocognition, magical scientists, arcane research, ancient history, magical science
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Francia treats magic as both an art and a science. Researchers use controlled experiments, comparative study, magical anatomy, mathematical modeling and historical investigation. The supernatural can be studied without becoming completely understood.
Retrocognition is among the most advanced historical techniques. Skilled practitioners can sometimes reconstruct impressions of past events from magical residues, objects, locations and surviving traces. The method is imperfect and can suffer interference, missing information, symbolic distortion and observer bias.
The search for the First Magic is its most famous application. Scientists have repeatedly tried to trace magical history backward through ancient civilizations and the traditions surrounding Alexandria. They have recovered fragments of rituals, languages, architecture and magical practice, but no definitive original system. The Library of Alexandria remains central to the mystery because its destruction removed an enormous body of comparative material.
- #19Magical Failure, Backlash and Limits
Keys: identity limits, limits, backlash, Soul damage, overcasting, magical failure
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Magic can fail. A spell may collapse because the practitioner lacks sufficient Aera, misunderstands the structure, loses concentration, violates a Condition, suffers pathway disruption or attempts an effect inconsistent with their identity. Failure may be harmless dissipation, inaccurate targeting, temporary casting paralysis or dangerous backlash.
Backlash occurs when a magical structure collapses while significant Aera is still being forced through it. Repeated overcasting can damage pathways and permanently alter how a practitioner casts. Advanced training therefore includes cancellation, venting, grounding and emergency shutdown.
Identity magic also has strict conceptual limits. A person cannot simply declare that they can perform any imaginable feat. The Soul must be capable of representing the structure; Knowledge supplies mechanisms, training supplies repeatability, symbolism supplies structure and Conviction stabilizes it. The result is freedom inside rules rather than unrestricted wish fulfillment.
- #20Reconfigured Alvelotyl Foundation
Keys: Soul, Alvelotyl foundation, Arts, legacy magic principles, Identity, old magic system
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
This Francia system deliberately retains selected philosophical foundations from the earlier Alvelotyl magic framework without importing its entire worldbuilding. The retained principles are the connection between magic and Identity, the importance of the Soul, personal magical development, direct magical martial Arts, symbolic names and titles, meaningful experience, and the possibility of highly individualized supernatural abilities.
The older setting's complete cosmology, Gods, eras, creatures, histories and other world-specific structures are not automatically part of this system. They remain separate worldbuilding unless deliberately reintroduced.
The new Francia framework instead centers on European magical traditions, cultural variation, Conviction, Knowledge, Coherence, identity, symbolism, mythical-creature influence, arcane physiology, Arts, Forms, Techniques, Conditions, magical science and nano-technological thaumaturgy.
It is intentionally a soft-hard hybrid. Rules make abilities understandable and consistent, while identity and symbolism leave room for extraordinary characters, inventions and signature powers. A character can become absurdly powerful, but their power should have a reason: physiology, knowledge, training, identity, conditions, technology, rare experience or an unusual combination of these. The system is designed to support both believable magical scholarship and characters who can eventually reach mythic levels of power.
