- #1Francia — The Imperial Heart

Francia is a unified magical empire whose history stretches back to the legendary Clovis I. In this timeline the empire never suffered the division associated with the Treaty of Verdun. Strong rulers, strategic alliances, dynastic marriages and the continued importance of magical bloodlines instead preserved the unity of the realm. By 2147, Francia stretches from the frozen shores of the North Sea to the sunlit Mediterranean, encompassing territories corresponding to modern-day France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Benelux Region, Austria and Switzerland.
The empire is therefore less a single nation in the ordinary sense and more a vast political organism containing many regional identities, languages, traditions, noble houses, magical schools and local forms of government. Aquitaine, Normandy, Burgundy, Champagne, Lyon, Bavaria, Venice, Castille, Tuscany, Westfalen and the other great regions retain powerful local institutions while acknowledging the authority of the imperial centre. The size of Francia makes direct rule impossible without layers of aristocracy, electors, councils, regional courts, magical administrators and enchanted communication networks.
The House de Valois stands at the centre of this system. Charlotte de Valois is described as the current and most potent ruler, a master of dark sorcery and strategy, while the Prince-electors have not yet formally confirmed her as Empress and she therefore remains Princess Imperial in the present political arrangement. This creates an unusual situation in which Charlotte possesses enormous practical influence without possessing every formal privilege of the imperial throne.
Francia's power is not based on military force alone. Magic, noble bloodlines, magical education, industrial production, thaumaturgical research, transportation and communication are woven together into the structure of the empire. The result is a civilization where political authority and magical capability are closely connected, and where a powerful aristocratic family can possess influence over both government and the supernatural sciences.
Outside Francia, the empire is viewed through many different lenses. Some neighbouring peoples regard it as a cultural and technological centre, while others see its enormous concentration of wealth, magical research and political power as a source of anxiety. Diplomacy therefore involves more than armies and treaties: magical artefacts, research exchanges, ley-line access, aristocratic marriages, academic privileges and control of important magical infrastructure can all become instruments of international policy.

Francia's magic in 2147 is a fusion of mysticism and science. Magic draws upon the supernatural energy of the world, ley lines and celestial alignments, while researchers increasingly study those forces through systematic observation, experimentation and technological application. Magic is not treated merely as folklore or religion. It is a field of study, an industry, a weapon, a profession and a foundation of modern civilization.
The underlying magic of Alvelotyl is based on Aera and Identity. Aera is the omnipresent magical energy that exists throughout the world and within living creatures. Aera can exist as ambient energy or become charged through the identity of a living being. A person's Soul gives their magic individuality, meaning that two Casters can learn similar spells while producing results with different appearances, behaviour, limitations and applications.
Magic is commonly classified through the Six Schools of Magic: Elementalism, which creates and manipulates physical matter; Shapeshifting, which creates and manipulates biological matter; Enchanting, which manipulates words, language and meaning; Perceptionism, which manipulates the mind and senses; Necromancy, which creates and manipulates Souls; and Manipulation, which creates and manipulates forces. These categories are a method of classification rather than absolute limits. A single ability can overlap several schools, and personal Identity can lead to unusual combinations that do not fit neatly into a conventional academic discipline.
Francia's universities and thaumaturgical institutes therefore teach both standardized magical foundations and highly specialized disciplines. Chronomancy, biomancy and other specialized branches exist as academic fields, while practical Casters develop individual techniques according to their Identity. The most advanced researchers attempt to combine magic with chemistry, biology, engineering, communications and physics-like principles, producing the growing field of techno-magic.
Powerful magic often requires sacrifices or meaningful costs. In Alvelotyl, restrictions and Conditions can strengthen an ability when those restrictions align with the Caster's Identity. A spell that is made more specific, difficult, costly or personally meaningful can become substantially more effective. This makes magical mastery less about memorizing an unlimited catalogue of spells and more about understanding oneself and developing a coherent magical Identity.
Francia's magical aristocracy has accumulated centuries of specialized knowledge and bloodline traditions. This contributes to the unusually high magical ability of many noble families, although talent and mastery are not limited exclusively to nobility. The imperial system nevertheless gives wealthy families far greater access to tutors, laboratories, artefacts, magical medicine, research institutions and protected ley-line infrastructure, reinforcing the connection between social class and magical power.
The central principle remains that magic cannot simply do everything. It is constrained by the Caster, their Soul, their Identity, the nature of Aera and the Conditions attached to their abilities. Even in a technologically advanced magical civilization, true mastery remains rare.
- #3Francia — Magical Society and Arcane Capitalism
Keys: Arcane Industry, Magic Items, Magical Aptitude, Magic Economy, Artefacts, Arcane Capitalism, Nobility, Magical Society, Thaumaturgical Industry, Aera Economy, Magical Aristocracy, Workers

By 2147, magic has become inseparable from economics. Francia's society is described as operating under a form of arcane capitalism, in which magical ability, magical knowledge and access to supernatural resources can directly affect a person's social position. Noble families possess political authority, inherited magical traditions and enormous financial resources, while corporations, laboratories, universities and industrial houses compete to transform supernatural discoveries into useful products.
Aera itself is not simply treated as a commodity in the same way as ordinary fuel. Ambient Aera exists throughout the world, but charged Aera, magical artefacts, specialized materials, enchanted components and access to stable ley-line infrastructure can have enormous economic value. Regions with unusual magical environments can become centres of research, agriculture, manufacturing or tourism, while dangerous areas may be controlled by governments or private organizations.
Magical aptitude influences employment and education. Workers inhabit magically sustained communities that can be adapted to the capabilities of their populations. A community with a large concentration of Elementalists may develop industries based around elemental production, while another with powerful Enchanters may become known for contracts, communication technology or information services. Biomancy and Shapeshifting can influence medicine and biotechnology, while Manipulation can contribute to transportation, construction and machinery.
This does not make every citizen a powerful Caster. Most people still have ordinary limits, and the strongest forms of magic require talent, experience, personal development and often significant resources. The social importance of magic instead comes from how many ordinary systems have been built around it. Education, transportation, communication, entertainment, manufacturing, warfare, medicine and government all have magical components.
This creates a complicated class structure. Wealth can purchase magical education, but education cannot automatically manufacture magical talent. Bloodlines can preserve techniques, but a noble descendant is not guaranteed to possess the same Identity as an ancestor. Powerful families therefore compete to preserve traditions while also adapting to new generations.
The resulting society is simultaneously glamorous and unequal. The upper classes can attend grand magical soirées, employ specialized Casters and commission custom artefacts, while industrial workers and ordinary citizens experience magic primarily through infrastructure, workplaces and consumer technology. The imperial government and magical elites benefit enormously from this system, while critics question the concentration of magical resources and knowledge among a relatively small portion of society.
- #4The Wider World — Aera, Ley Lines and Magical Geography
Keys: Magical Environment, Aera Pollution, Ley Lines, Charged Aera, Alvelotyl, Celestial Alignments, Ambient Aera, Aera, Magic Regions, Magical Geography

The magical world is not limited to Francia. Aera exists throughout Alvelotyl, and every region interacts with it differently. Ambient Aera fills the atmosphere and can naturally be absorbed by Souls before being released again. When Aera becomes charged by Identity, it can take on distinctive properties and, when concentrated over long periods, can influence the environment itself.
Ley lines are naturally significant concentrations or pathways of magical energy. Civilizations build settlements, roads, laboratories, temples and defensive structures around favourable magical geography. A city positioned near stable ley lines may become a major academic or industrial centre, while unstable regions can become dangerous frontiers filled with strange phenomena.
Charged Aera can also produce Aera Pollution. When sufficiently concentrated magical energy accumulates in an environment, it can alter flora, fauna and local conditions. These changes can be beneficial, destructive or simply strange. A forest exposed to generations of particular magical influence may develop organisms with unusual properties, while a heavily industrialized magical district may require systems to regulate ambient energy.
This makes geography an important part of politics. Nations do not merely compete for farmland, rivers and mineral deposits. They also compete for ley-line intersections, magical resources, ancient ruins, rare creatures, celestial observatories and regions where specific forms of magic naturally flourish.
Celestial alignments are another source of magical influence. Francia's magical sciences have developed increasingly sophisticated methods of observing the relationship between celestial events and supernatural phenomena. Certain magical experiments, rituals and technologies can become more effective when performed under particular alignments, creating calendars in which astronomy and magic are closely connected.
Different cultures therefore understand Aera in different ways. It has been given many names, including Essence, Flow, Aether, Light and Breath. The underlying phenomenon is shared even when the philosophies surrounding it are not. A Francian scholar may describe a phenomenon through thaumaturgical mathematics, while another culture may understand the same phenomenon through spiritual, religious or elemental traditions.
Because magic is rooted in Identity, there is no single universal magical culture. The same principles can produce radically different traditions. Some civilizations emphasize formal academies and standardized spells, others cultivate hereditary techniques, spiritual practices, martial disciplines, magical craftsmanship or close relationships with particular environments. The world is therefore connected by Aera without being culturally uniform.
- #5The Wider World — Luster Arts and Universal Magic
Keys: Body, Soul, Release, Universal Magic, Luster Arts, Mind, Insight, Mantle, Aera Force, Aera Armor, Martial Arts, Aera Flash, Aera Vision

Not every supernatural ability depends on a specialized magical Identity. Luster Arts provide a more universal method of manipulating Aera directly. While conventional magic transforms Aera into another form, Luster Arts use raw Aera itself. Because of this, they can be learned by people regardless of their magical affinities and are widespread among adventurers, soldiers, martial artists, guards and experienced Casters.
The three foundational Luster Arts correspond to Body, Mind and Soul. Mantle, also called Aera Armor, governs the Body by causing Aera to flow throughout the user's body and strengthen it. With sufficient mastery, Mantle can greatly improve durability and physical performance, and the user's veins may visibly glow with the colour of their Aera.
Insight, also called Aera Vision, governs the Mind. It increases sensitivity to magical energy and allows a trained user to perceive Aera through one or more senses. Skilled users can identify magical effects, detect supernatural beings, observe artefacts and perceive impressions carried by Aera. Insight is one of the most reliable practical methods of identifying a Caster.
Release, also called Aera Force or Aera Flash, governs the Soul. It allows concentrated Aera to be released instantly as a burst of force, often alongside a punch, kick, weapon strike or other physical movement. Because it does not require Aera to be transformed into fire, light or another substance, Release can remain useful even when a person's normal magic is restricted.
Advanced practitioners combine the three arts. A warrior may use Mantle to reinforce their body, Insight to read an opponent's magical flow and Release to add explosive force to a weapon strike. A Caster can similarly combine Luster Arts with Spells, Skills and other abilities.
This distinction is important in a world with advanced magical technology. A citizen may possess no specialized Spellcasting talent and still become capable of supernatural feats through Luster training. Conversely, a highly specialized Caster may depend on Luster Arts to compensate for weaknesses in their personal magic.
Luster Arts are therefore one of the bridges between magic and physical combat. They help prevent magical warfare from becoming entirely dependent on long-range spells and provide a universal foundation that can be taught across cultures.
- #6The Wider World — Classes, Skills and Personal Growth
Keys: Risk, Hybrid Classes, Experience, Investment, Flow, Class Skills, Skills, Levels, Racial Skills, Class Evolution, Unique Skills, Identity, Advanced Classes, Classes
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%

Alvelotyl's supernatural systems extend beyond conventional Spellcasting. Classes and Levels are a supernatural recording system through which the Soul recognizes important parts of a person's Identity. A person can develop Classes such as [Builder], [Wrestler], [Pyromancer], [King], [Warrior], [Blacksmith] or countless other roles. A Class becomes meaningful when it is genuinely integrated into who the person is rather than being obtained through mindless repetition.
Levels represent growth within a Class. Experience is not simply a numerical measurement of practice; it reflects how actions, knowledge, risk and personal development affect the individual's Identity. Different Classes therefore level at different speeds and under different conditions.
A person may become stronger by investing deeply in a field, taking meaningful risks and fulfilling the requirements associated with the Class. A [Warrior], for example, develops through actual combat and learning from that experience rather than merely swinging a sword thousands of times. Specialization can eventually lead to Advanced Classes, while multiple aspects of Identity can merge into Hybrid Classes.
Skills are supernatural mutations associated with a person's growth. They can emerge from Classes, racial traits, repeated tasks, magical specialization or unusual events. Some Skills are instinctive and can be used without directly spending Aera, while others interact closely with a person's magic.
Racial Skills are tied to a species or inherited nature. Class Skills arise from the development of a Class. Unique Skills are more unusual and can require special conditions, specific magical developments, Soulbrands, Arcane Mutations, Awakenings or other rare circumstances.
The result is a world in which personal development can become literally supernatural. A farmer who dedicates their life to agriculture, a scientist obsessed with magical chemistry, a soldier who becomes a veteran strategist and a ruler who genuinely embodies leadership can all develop different supernatural expressions of their identities.
This system also prevents power from being purely hereditary. A powerful bloodline can provide advantages, but a person must still become the kind of individual capable of expressing those abilities. Conversely, someone born without prestigious ancestry can develop an extraordinary Class, Skill or magical Identity through experience and dedication.
- #7Francia — The Council of Five Elders

Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%

The Council of Five Elders is an ancient advisory body attached to the ruler of Francia. Each Elder possesses a magical ring tied to the empire's defenses, making the council more than a political institution. The rings are objects of power and controversy, and their existence gives the Elders a direct connection to the security of the empire.
Margot de Clermont is the Duchess of Aquitaine and serves as the council's representative for Diplomacy, carrying the title Mistress of Whispers. Gerard Fontaine is the Duke of Normandy and Keeper of Arcane Secrets, representing Magic. Louis de Montmorency is the Duke of Champagne and Shield of the Realm, as well as the maternal grandfather of Charlotte. Isabelle Rousseau is the Duchess of Burgundy and Royal Treasury Custodian, representing Economics. Prince-Bishop Antoine, Prince-Bishop of Lyon, represents Religion under the title Divine Voice.
Their official responsibilities include guiding the young Empress Charlotte, maintaining stability and protecting the realm. In practice, the Elders possess significant political influence and have interests extending across diplomacy, magical research, military affairs, economics and religion.
The council is surrounded by rumours of hidden agendas and centuries-old rivalries. Their rings are particularly controversial because they represent concentrated magical authority. Although the council is supposed to protect the realm and advise its ruler, not all of its members are fully loyal to young Charlotte. Their personal rivalries and competing priorities can therefore turn the council into one of the most important political pressure points in the empire.
The Five Elders represent an older form of Francian power. They stand between the imperial dynasty and the enormous network of nobles, institutions and regions that make up Francia. Their continued existence also demonstrates how magical artefacts can become political offices in their own right: possessing the right object can grant a person authority that is difficult to separate from the institution they represent.
- #8Francia — House de Valois

Stemming from the Merovingian dynasty, House de Valois possesses a mixture of royal and magical bloodlines. The house is known for producing skilled sorcerers and strategists and has built a legacy of dominance through the combination of political authority and supernatural capability.
Charlotte de Valois is described as the current and most potent ruler of the house. She is a master of dark sorcery and strategy, and her ambitions extend beyond ordinary imperial politics. Charlotte seeks to expand her house's influence beyond the mortal realm, delve deeper into forbidden magic, expand the empire and secure her legacy.
The House de Valois therefore represents one of the clearest examples of the relationship between identity, bloodline and political power in Francia. Its members inherit access to traditions, institutions and magical knowledge, but their individual magic remains shaped by their own identities.
Charlotte's position is complicated by the Prince-electors. Although she possesses immense practical authority and is treated as the central figure of the empire's current era, the electors have not formally confirmed her as Empress. She remains Princess Imperial within the current political arrangement, making her authority powerful but not completely uncontested.
The house's interest in forbidden magic also places it near the boundary between accepted thaumaturgy and dangerous supernatural research. In a civilization where magic can reshape reality within natural laws, forbidden magic is not merely a collection of forbidden spells. It represents research and practices considered too dangerous, politically destabilizing or morally unacceptable for ordinary use.
House de Valois consequently sits at the intersection of imperial succession, magical aristocracy, military strategy, forbidden research and the wider ambitions of Francia.
- #9Francia — The Twelve Prince-Electors
Keys: Duke of Valois, Prince-electors, Duke of Westfalen, Twelve Electors, Duke of Bavaria, Prince Electors, Duke of Venice, Duke of Austria, Duke of Transjurania, Imperial Succession, Duke of Aquitaine, Duke of Tuscany, Duke of Brabant, Duke of Castille, Duke of Granada, Duke of Anjou
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
The Prince-electors are a powerful group of nobles who play a crucial role in the governance and succession of the Francia Empire. There are twelve electors representing major regions of the empire. Their principal function is to elect the Emperor or Empress of Francia and to serve as imperial advisors.
The twelve titles are the Duke of Anjou, Duke of Bavaria, Duke of Venice, Duke of Castille, Duke of Brabant, Duke of Austria, Duke of Transjurania, Duke of Aquitaine, Duke of Granada, Duke of Tuscany, Duke of Westfalen and Duke of Valois, whose title is held by Charlotte de Valois.
The electors provide a political counterweight to the imperial court. Their territories span the empire's major regional spheres, including France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Benelux region, Austria and Switzerland. Because each elector represents regional interests, the imperial government must negotiate with a political structure that is deliberately decentralized.
In the current era, the electors have not yet confirmed Charlotte as Empress. Their reluctance is connected to concerns about her youth and the complicated political landscape of such a vast empire. As a result, Charlotte possesses significant power as Princess Imperial without having completely assumed the imperial throne.
The twelve electors therefore create a permanent tension between unity and regional autonomy. Francia has remained politically unified for centuries, but unity does not mean that every noble house agrees about how the empire should be governed. The electoral system gives those disagreements a formal institution through which they can influence succession and imperial policy.
The electors are also important to the setting because they demonstrate that Francia's government is not simply an absolute monarchy. Imperial authority exists alongside aristocratic institutions, regional power bases, magical families, religious authorities, economic interests and military organizations.
- #10Francia in 2147 — A Magical Belle Époque
Keys: Ethereal Web, Ley-line Trains, Spellphones, Magical Theatre, Belle Époque, Art Nouveau, Thaumaturgical Labs, Arcane-Industrial Complexes, Enchanted Firearms, Airships, Magical Belle Époque, Elemental Magic, Mystical Renaissance, Francia 2147, Biotechnology
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Francia in 2147 resembles a magical Belle Époque: an age of wealth, experimentation, artistic confidence and rapid technological transformation. Opulent Art Nouveau cityscapes contain cutting-edge thaumaturgical laboratories, while gilded airships and ley-line trains cross the skies and connect distant regions. The visual character of the empire combines aristocratic grandeur with magical industry.
Wands can channel destructive spells, while enchanted firearms are designed with magical assistance that allows them to perform with extraordinary reliability. Arcane-industrial complexes combine biotechnology and elemental magic to achieve unprecedented levels of production. Magical infrastructure supports entire communities, allowing buildings, transport systems and industrial facilities to function through supernatural mechanisms.
The Ethereal Web has transformed communication. Alongside devices such as Spellphones, it allows information to travel rapidly across enormous distances. Communication is therefore no longer restricted to couriers, letters or physical travel. At the same time, the same infrastructure can enable subtle forms of surveillance and control, making magical communication a political issue as well as a technological achievement.
Society celebrates magical innovation and artistic expression. Grand soirées coexist with international magical espionage, while reality-bending performances and immersive magical theatre attract enormous audiences. The supernatural is not hidden from ordinary citizens; it is part of everyday culture, entertainment and industry.
The period is associated with the Mystical Renaissance, the movement that helped catalyze Francia's current state. Publicly, the Renaissance is celebrated as an age of discovery and prosperity. Privately, however, whispers persist about hidden costs. Magical resources are not infinite in practical terms, dangerous experiments can have consequences, and technological integration can create new forms of dependence and inequality.
There are social taboos surrounding the waste of magical resources and the rejection of techno-magical integration. This reveals an important feature of the era: progress itself has become part of Francian identity. To oppose magical technology can be treated not merely as a personal preference but as a rejection of the direction in which modern civilization believes it is moving.
- #11The Wider World — Global Civilization and Magical Modernity
Keys: Cultures, Nations, World Setting, Magical Modernity, Civilizations, International Relations, Technology, Global Worldbuilding, Magic Technology, Magical Research, Global Magic, Modern Alvelotyl
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Although Francia is one of the most developed and politically important regions of the setting, the wider world should not be understood as an extension of Francia. Alvelotyl is a world of many civilizations, magical traditions and technological paths. Francia's particular combination of aristocracy, thaumaturgical industry and imperial politics is one model of magical modernity rather than the universal standard.
Across the world, societies have adapted Aera according to their own histories and identities. Some nations may place greater importance on formal magical academies, others on hereditary traditions, spiritual institutions, guilds, military schools, artisan communities or relationships with magical environments. Because Identity is fundamental to magic, local culture can influence the way people understand and develop their abilities.
Technology is similarly uneven. The existence of advanced magical science does not mean every settlement possesses identical infrastructure. A major metropolitan centre can contain laboratories, magical communication networks, enchanted transport and industrial complexes while a distant rural community may rely on older tools, local magic and traditional craftsmanship. The result is a world where eras overlap geographically.
International relations therefore involve the exchange of more than ordinary goods. Nations compete and cooperate over magical research, artefacts, rare materials, ley-line access, magical medicine, skilled Casters, universities and technological inventions. A magical discovery in one country can quickly affect the economy or military doctrine of another.
The distinction between science and magic is also increasingly blurred. Researchers study supernatural phenomena systematically, while traditional Casters discover principles through experience and Identity. The most advanced societies increasingly treat these approaches as complementary.
This creates an expansive setting in which a character can travel from a heavily industrialized magical metropolis to a region dominated by ancient traditions, dangerous wilderness or isolated magical communities without leaving the same world. Francia's 2147 society is one major expression of this civilization: highly advanced, aristocratic, technologically ambitious and deeply dependent upon magic, but not the sole possible future for Alvelotyl.
