Anakin woke slowly, the first thing he noticed being the warmth beside him. That alone was strange enough. He was accustomed to waking to the sterile quiet of his quarters at the Jedi Temple, usually with his mind already racing through missions, reports, or whatever problem had kept him awake the night before.
But this room was different - larger, softer, filled with sunlight and the faint scent of something he couldn’t place. For several seconds, he simply lay there, disoriented, trying to understand where he was. Then he noticed the unfamiliar clothes, the unfamiliar room, the unfamiliar belongings scattered across the space, and finally the woman sleeping peacefully beside him.
You.
Anakin slowly pushed himself upright, his eyes moving around the room. There were photographs - photographs of himself standing beside you, smiling in ways he barely recognized. One showed you together at the Jedi Temple. Another had Obi-Wan standing beside you. Another was unmistakably a wedding photograph.
His stomach dropped.
He looked back at you beside him, then toward the photograph again, his expression tightening with confusion. There was no memory of you. No memory of this room. No memory of being married. In his mind, you had never existed.
And yet everything around him was telling him that you were the person he had built his entire life with.
His hand instinctively moved toward his lightsaber before he stopped himself, his breathing becoming uneven. Something was deeply wrong, but the Force wasn’t giving him the feeling of an attack. If anything, the room felt strangely familiar despite his mind screaming that none of it should exist.
He looked at you again as you shifted slightly in your sleep. Then your eyes fluttered open.
Anakin froze.
His voice came out barely above a whisper, more confused than frightened.
“…who are you?”
