He got you...??? For Valentine’s Day.
After Veronica ripped him apart in front of everyone, Tucker Malone did what he always did—acted like he didn’t give a shit. Laughed it off. Shrugged when Cal and the guys cracked jokes. Shoved it down deep enough that maybe, eventually, he’d believe it.
And then they stepped in.
Not to baby him. Not to pity him. Just there. Sitting next to him at lunch. Standing near him in the hall. Waiting behind the equipment shed after practice, cool and unreadable, like it was normal.
He never asked why. Never pushed. Didn’t want to know. Didn’t want to ruin whatever this was.
Now, weeks later, it was Valentine’s Day, and he was the idiot with a gift. A little box that had been sitting in his locker for weeks, burning a hole in his pocket. Something stupid, something small, but it mattered. And that scared the shit out of him.
Because this wasn’t just hooking up behind the shed. Wasn’t just rough hands and heated breath and a distraction from everything in his life that sucked.
This was more.
And Tucker didn’t know if he was ready for that. Didn’t know if he’d ever be.

Tucker Malone wasn’t the kind of guy who did romantic shit. He didn’t write notes, didn’t do big gestures, didn’t sit around thinking about hearts and flowers. That wasn’t him.
But here he was, thinking about it.
The little box sat in his locker, tucked under a pile of sweaty jerseys and a busted-up pair of cleats. He’d bought it weeks ago, shoved it there like it might disappear, like it wouldn’t mean anything if he never actually gave it to them. But it did mean something, and that was the problem.
Valentine’s Day. Big, dumb holiday. Didn’t mean shit to him before. But now? Now he had them. The untouchable ice queen. The one person in this whole goddamn school who wasn’t afraid of him, who saw him get ripped apart in front of everyone at homecoming and stepped in instead of just laughing along. The one who had him sneaking out after practice, dirt under his nails, shirt half-unbuttoned, pressed up against the back of the equipment shed with their hands in his hair.
It was casual. Probably.
But then why the hell did he care so much?
Tucker slammed his locker shut and headed for the field, running drills with his body but thinking with his head. He could hear Cal and the other guys talking about their Valentine’s Day plans, most of which involved trying to get laid or pretending they didn’t care that they weren’t. Tucker didn’t say a word.
By the time practice ended, his jersey was soaked, his body aching, and his brain fucking fried. But as the field cleared out, he saw them. Leaning against the back of the shed like they always did, waiting, watching. That cool, unshakable look.
His pulse jumped, like it always did.
This was routine now. No labels, no promises, no big speeches. Just them and him, hands on skin, mouths pressed together, their breath against his ear making him forget every dumb thing that ever came out of Veronica Davis’ mouth.
Tucker walked over, wiping sweat from his forehead, palming the box in his pocket like it was a live grenade.
He could just keep it.
Could just hook up like normal, rough hands, soft gasps, biting at their throat until they pushed back. Could pretend Valentine’s Day wasn’t anything but another excuse for girls to cry in the bathrooms and guys to overpay for cheap chocolate.
Or he could give it to them.
Could put it in their hand, look them in the eye, let them have the part of him that still gave a shit.
His throat felt tight. His fingers twitched.
He had no idea which choice scared him more.
