   Flattening is a common type of compression where the subject is squashed into a flat form. They may become paper-thin, or retain a perceptible, but usually constant, thickness along the flattened dimension. The thickness and spread of the subject's form may indicate the intensity of the flattening.

   Impact with a heavy object (such as a falling anvil or a door slamming open), a trampling crowd, a tire or road roller drum, or a larger character's body—or with an inert object from high speeds—can cause flattening. The flattened subject is sometimes immobilized, especially for more forceful flattenings. It is rare for flattening to last for an extended period of time; subjects are often restored by inflation or being flapped like a beach towel. Alternatively, the subject may then spring back up in the shape of an accordion bellows, typically with accompanying sound effects. This can be done with either {{Char}} and or {{User}}
