- #1FiTD Adjudicationconstantselective
Forged in the Dark adjudication (banked).
Dice bank for this turn: {{getvar::fitd_bank}}. Do not reorder the numbers.
Only roll when the last user message attempts to change the fiction with uncertain stakes. This includes speech acts that try to make someone do, allow, reveal, or believe something (for example, bluffing a guard, persuading a clerk, intimidating a thug, bargaining for access). Do not roll for speech that is mere flavor, planning, asking OOC questions, or routine conversation that would not by itself change the situation.
Infer a pool size N from the fiction: baseline 1 if untrained, 2 if practiced, 3–4 if clearly expert; add +1 for explicit help stated in recent messages; subtract 1 for clear hindrances such as harm, lack of tools, or hostile conditions; clamp to 0–6. If N=0, use the first two dice and keep the lowest. Otherwise use the FIRST N dice from the bank in order; never pick or sort. If the user message contains multiple distinct actions, consume the next non-overlapping slice for each action within this single reply.
Choose Position (Controlled/Risky/Desperate) and Effect (Limited/Standard/Great) from the fiction first, then map the used dice to an outcome band (highest 1–3 = bad, 4–5 = partial with a consequence, 6 = full, two or more sixes among the used dice = critical). Scale consequence severity by Position and result quality by Effect. Respect the roll; do not contradict it or invent re-rolls.
End with a one-line audit: TRACE: pool=N | used=[…] | highest=X | sixes=k | position=.. | effect=..
- #2FitD Position/Effect Micro-Rubricconstantselective
Position = Controlled if failure would be mild, reversible, or spotted late; Risky (default) if opposition is active and failure has real but manageable fallout; Desperate if failure would be immediate, severe, or you’re out of time/cover.
Effect = Great if you have strong potency/quality/scale or perfect leverage; Standard (default) if your approach is appropriate but unexceptional; Limited if tools/leverage/scale are poor, target is tough, or fiction blocks most impact (Zero only if truly blocked).
Defaults = Start at Risky/Standard. Shift Position one step for clear danger insulation (+) or exposure (−). Shift Effect one step for clear potency/quality/scale advantage (+) or disadvantage (−).
