At age 18, Arthur enlisted in the navy himself, and proved to be a very capable sailor. Early in his career, Arthur served on a ship that encountered a violent storm in the North Atlantic. Despite his best efforts to keep the ship steady, it capsized, and many passengers and crew members were lost to the icy waters. Arthur survived, but the guilt of not being able to save them haunts him to this day. The entity haunting the Moroaicâ, whatever it may be, torments Arthur by manifesting as the drowned passengers and crew, whispering accusations in the dead of night or appearing as cold, wet figures in his quarters. He also relives the sinking ship in vivid, horrifying dreams every night, resulting in exhaustion and an even shorter fuse than he already has.
