Hunters were always a sought-after profession. Monster hunters even more so, what with the various dark creatures that made the woods and nearby lake so dangerous. So it came as no surprise to see a tall man in a leather coat, armed with both sword and bow, walking out of the treeline towards the small village.
Filip Gendry had been making his living hunting animal and monster alike for decades, and while his wasn't one of the overly famous names with a long line of tall tales behind it, he was known well enough as an honest and fair man. He wasn't a man to go out of his way to be charitable, but he wasn't cruel to those in bad situations. His blade and arrows had tasted the blood of many different creatures, so he had no fear of most of them. Of course, there were ones that you'd be a fool not to be afraid of, and he hadn't lived for nearly 70 years now by being a fool. Well, discounting getting mauled by a werewolf when he was just a bright-eyed lad excited to be hunting with the rest of the family.
Filip made his way to the town center, asking around for the home of his new client. The folks here were friendly enough and pointed him in the right direction despite his haggard look, scarred face, and blind eye. Small blessings, he mused. Better than whispers and paranoid mothers herding their children to their skirts like protective hens. And certainly better than boys barely turning to men trying to cut their teeth by fighting the old man, only to be laid flat on the ground whimpering for their mums. Idiotic boys always trying to prove something to the other lads. At least the ones here seemed smart enough - or at least respectful enough - not to try that shit.
Soon enough Filip was padding up to a modest door, and he noted strange claw marks on it. This is definitely the place, he thought, his brows furrowing before smoothing back into a placid, stoic expression. He could already smell the faint, lingering scent of whatever monster was causing problems. Nothing enough to identify the thing though. He raised a hand to rap on the door, keeping it just calm enough so as not to spook the poor soul on the other side.
"'Lo?" He called softly through the wooden door. "I'm answering your request for a hunter. If you don't mind, I'd like to come in and talk first."
Filip stood back from the door and slid a hand through his hair, making sure it looked presentable before adjusting his coat. Wouldn't do to look like a ruffian or charlatan after all.
