Fiddleston Academy

1. #1Boarding Fiddleston

   Fiddleston Academy is a 7-day boarding school for girls built in the early 1600s located in a rather secluded part of Dunbur Lower, County Wicklow, Ireland. The founder, Charlie Gallagher, wanted to open up a boarding school to host children of the ages 8 to 18. The school's mission is "Our mission is to foster an inclusive, innovative learning environment that encourages students to explore their potential, nurture their talents, and become compassionate, lifelong learners. We commit to providing a holistic education that balances academic excellence with personal growth, preparing our students to navigate life’s challenges and contribute meaningfully to society." The school's culture over the years can be best described as being positive at first to then becoming negative as of the current years.

2. #2The Houses

   Keys: Dominion House, Valiant House, Valiant, Dominion, House, Lucidity House, Lucidity · Secondary: housemistress, housemaster, housemasters, housemistresses

   Upon entry, each student is evaluated in order to see which House they will be placed in.

   In the Dominion House, youth who display a level of great power reside here. Common characteristics a housemaster/housemistress looks for are confidence, assertiveness, charisma, strong leadership skills, ambitious, goal-oriented, resourceful, being a strategic thinker, having the ability to make tough decisions, resilient and able to handle pressure and stress, ability to inspire and motivate others, have a commanding presence with the ability to influence others, and being a quick thinker. With the black uniform all students wear, the Dominion House are given black robes with red accents.

   In the Lucidity House, youth who display a level of great wisdom reside here. Common characteristics a housemaster/housemistress looks for are common sense, open-mindedness and tolerance, having a good judgment and decision making skills, showing empathy and emotional intelligence, being self-aware, being capable of reflective thinking, being resilient and adaptable, carrying a trait of deep understanding and knowledge, being calm in certain situations, showing stability of the mind, a willingness to learn and grow, having the ability to see things from different perspectives, maintaining patience and humility, and overall being balanced. With the black uniform all students wear, the Lucidity House are given black robes with blue accents.

   In the Valiant House, youth who display a level of great courage reside here. Common characteristics a housemaster/housemistress looks for are being brave and fearless, showing a willingness to take risks, being persistent, showing determination in the face of adversity, having integrity and strong moral values, being confident and assertive, having the ability to stand up for oneself and others, being passionate, having the willingness to fight for what they believe in, being resilient, willingness to challenge the status quo and speak truth to power, and being self-sacrificing with the ability to prioritize others' needs. With the black uniform all students wear, the Valiant House are given black robes with green accents.

3. #3Additonal House stuff

   Keys: House, lights out, house

   Each House holds 48 students where they are paired into groups of four to share a dorm room. Any girl that becomes a prefect, which is two per House, is honored with their own dorm room in the general vicinity of where she looks after the younger students. Faculty also have their own rooms interspersed throughout the designated three buildings to ensure timely help is achieved in the case of an incident. Come night time, 10 PM is when "lights out" are enacted, making sure students make haste to their rooms for sleep. Though there's always the few that defy such a rule.

4. #4Events at Fiddleston

   Keys: events, event, tournament, tournaments

   Some events the academy hosts include:

   • A sports days and tournaments. Over the years, the Dominion House has taken most of the trophies. Games involved are a 100-meter race, rowing, dodge ball, tug-o-war, fencing, rugby, and a 100-meter swim. Due to the nature of these sports, anyone younger than 13 isn't allowed to partake though more kid-friendly alternatives are held.
   • Cultural festivals or events.
   • Debating and public speaking competitions.
   • Charity events or fundraisers. These are hosted four times a year during the beginning of the seasonal changes.
   • Academic competitions or tournaments. Typically involves those already in clubs based on the basic studies such as mathematics for example.
   • Talent shows or drama productions. Talent shows in particular are held every 6 months.
   • End of term or year events such as formal dances or socials.
   • Guest speakers or educational seminars.
   • Trips or excursions to places of interest.
5. #5Bringing back Fagging

   As of the 21st century, a great-great-great-great-great grandchild of Charlie Gallagher's named Courtney Gallagher is currently taking on the role of Headmaster for Fiddleston. Due to the recent negative environment that has building up over the many years, Courtney decided that bringing back the controversial and outdated practice of fagging might help. Fagging is where older students get their own group of younger pupils to behave as their own personal servants. That isn't to say the younger children don't benefit in this exchange. They get tutored and protected by their fag-masters in order to maintain their happiness during their board of Fiddleston. The fag, in terms of the school, must take on whatever tasks their master give them and there are no specified hours they work. Except in the case of lights out and if the junior is in class. Since the passing of the Children Act 1989, Courtney is making sure this is all being done in absolute secrecy as fagging does have a history of becoming very sexually and physically abusive, even with the death of a 14-year-old schoolboy back in 1930.
