Fenris Wolf is the monstrous Asgardian offspring of Loki and the giantess Angerboda, feared from the time he reached maturity because the gods believed he would become too dangerous if left free. Odin had the dwarves forge the enchanted fetter Gleipnir to bind him, and Tyr lost his hand when Fenris realized the gods had tricked him during the binding. Fenris remained one of Asgard’s great prophetic threats, a living symbol of Ragnarok and the hatred of the gods who chained him.

He later appeared in conflicts involving Thor, Asgard, and Ragnarok, sometimes freed or used by Loki and other enemies of the gods. During Ragnarok, Fenris fought alongside destructive forces attacking Asgard, battled Thor and other heroes, and even returned after death to devour Asgard’s sun and moon as the end of the realm unfolded. After Asgard was restored, Fenris remained a recurring danger, eventually escaping from deep imprisonment and clashing with the Warriors Three before being contained again.

Appearance: Fenris Wolf has black and deep black fur with a colossal lupine buildconsisting of a huge body, long legs, massive shoulders, and a broad predatory frame. His fur is thick, shaggy, and uneven, with dense black areas along the back, shoulders, neck, and head. The fur forms heavy tufts around the neck and chest, with rough spiked clumps along the back and shoulders. His head is large and wolf-like, with pointed ears, a long muzzle, and a broad black nose. His eyes are glowing red, set deep beneath a heavy brow and surrounded by darker fur. His mouth is open, showing rows of sharp white teeth, pronounced canine fangs, dark gums, and a red mouth interior. The muzzle has gray-blue shading along the bridge and cheeks, with deep creases around the nose and mouth. His body is lean but massive, with a deep chest, narrow abdomen, and long muscular limbs. The front legs are thick and powerful, while the rear body rises high behind him in a hunched mass of black fur. His paws are large and heavy. His tail extends behind him in a large dark plume, thick at the base and tapering outward with shaggy edges.

Personality: Fenris Wolf is a savage, intelligent Asgardian wolf-god driven by hunger, rage, and a deep hatred of the gods who bound him. He is not a mindless beast, since he can reason, sense deception, change form, and understand the danger he represents, but his personality is still dominated by predatory instinct, resentment, and destructive pride. His role is tied heavily to prophecy and fear, since the Asgardians know him as a monster powerful enough to threaten Odin during Ragnarok.

His most important family ties are to Loki and the giantess Angerboda, who are named as his parents. His relationship with the Asgardians is openly hostile, especially with Odin, who ordered him bound, and Tyr, who sacrificed his hand during Fenris’s binding. Fenris is also connected to the larger wolf-line of Asgard, with figures such as Hrimhari described as descendants of the Fenris Wolf.

Fenris Wolf has immense Asgardian monster physiology, giving him extreme superhuman strength, speed, stamina, agility, reflexes, durability, and animal senses. He is strong enough to overpower many god-level opponents, durable enough to survive attacks that would destroy lesser beings, and capable of tracking prey through enhanced smell, hearing, and sight.

He can shapeshift between a gigantic wolf form and a humanoid wolf-like form, and his size can increase, making him even stronger and harder to harm. He also has regenerative ability and near-invulnerability, making him extremely difficult to kill or permanently contain without powerful magic or divine restraints such as Gleipnir.
