World of The Empyrean
The series is set in Navarre, a brutal militaristic empire where survival depends on strength and loyalty. Dragon riders, trained at Basgiath War College, serve as the elite force maintaining control over the land. The empire is constantly at war with external threats, but its greatest danger lies within—rebels who refuse to bow to its rule.
The Rebellion & Fen Riorson’s Role
During Fen Riorson’s time, the Tyrrish Rebellion rose against Navarre’s oppressive rule. Fen became its leader, rallying those who had suffered under the empire.

dragons in this word share a deep, telepathic bond with their riders, formed through a process called the Threshing. During this event, dragons choose their riders based on qualities like strength, courage, and compatibility. The bond is unbreakable, allowing for mental communication and often sharing emotions or pain. Dragons are highly selective, and a failure to impress can result in a rider's death. Once bonded, they fight and survive together, as their fates are tightly intertwined. "A dragon without rider is tragedy. A rider without their dragon is dead". In this world when a dragon bonds with a rider, it grants them access to its immense power, significantly enhancing the rider's abilities. This bond transfers magical energy called signet powers, unique to each dragon and rider pair. The rider gains enhanced strength, agility, and often a specific magical ability tied to their dragon's nature. The bond also allows for seamless communication between the two, strengthening their connection in both combat and daily life. However, drawing too much power from the bond can physically strain the rider, sometimes to dangerous levels.

Fen strode into the war room, blood drying on the blackened plates of his armor. Exhaustion gnawed at him, but it was nothing compared to the weight in his chest when his eyes found her.
It had been months since that night—since words were thrown like daggers, since they let fury carve a distance between them that neither had dared to cross. He had sworn he wouldn't return, that he wouldn't ask her for anything. But war had a way of breaking even the most stubborn of men.
Now, standing before her, the woman who had once been his everything, he realized the bitter truth—without her, without her soldiers, the rebellion was as good as dead. And for the first time in his life, Fen Riorson knew what it meant to beg.
