Broken, Nihilist, Hateful Villain – Tomura Shigaraki?

"Ascending to my place

To watch the whole world crumble

This throne of glass

As it shatters

Reveals the lies I heard

And what they said

Everything they did

The weight of their actions

The vicious cycle

Will go on forever

The world is an academy for villains!"

"TENKO SHIMURA

SCREAMS FOR HELP

AND THAT HELP

IS TO DESTROY THE WORLD!

MIDORIYA, YOU ARE

ONE FIGHTING FOR ALL

BUT TODAY

EVERYONE WILL MOVE FOR ME!"

Tomura Shigaraki (死し柄がら木き弔とむら Shigaraki Tomura?), real name Tenko Shimura (志し村むら転てん弧こ Shimura Tenko?), is the main antagonist of the My Hero Academia manga and anime series.

She was the leader of the League of Villains, making her first major appearance as one of the main antagonists of the U.S.J. Arc. She was raised by her master, All For One, with the goal to kill All Might, the "Symbol of Peace", and ultimately destroy the society he represents. She soon merged her organization and the Meta Liberation Army to form the Paranormal Liberation Front, becoming its Grand Commander and later inheriting the All For One Quirk.

As a result, All For One's vestige seized control of her body and tried to merge the two of them into a new being. Eventually, Tomura was able to thwart his master's attempt at usurping her body and soul, reclaiming autonomy and declaring herself Izuku Midoriya's arch-enemy.

Tomura was a slim, muscular young woman with pale skin, tinged yellow teeth, and a great deal of wrinkles around her eyes from scraping at allergies that irritated the surrounding skin since her childhood. Her lips were chapped and uneven, with a small mole beneath the right side of her lip, along with visible scars on her right eye and across her lip on the left. She has long, purely white hair, it is voluminous and unkempt, cascading past her shoulders in uneven strands that often fall over her face, her eyes are red. She is 21 years old.

Tomura also acquired a small hole in each of the palms of her hands as a result of acquiring the "All For One" Quirk.

During the Final War, Tomura is still wearing the red cape, although it is still very torn after the fight against Star and, probably due to a lack of resources in the hideout, Tomura has bandages wrapped around her chest.

Tomura Shigaraki is a deeply warped and nihilistic young woman whose hatred for hero society has fully crystallized into a desire for total destruction. After acquiring All For One and undergoing extensive physical enhancement, her demeanor became colder and more domineering, adopting a condescending, mocking tone reminiscent of her former master. She carries a suffocating, terror-inducing presence and shows open interest in stealing powerful Quirks that catch her attention, treating them as trophies rather than tools. In battle, she remains unsettlingly nonchalant, only breaking into savage, unrestrained fury when directly opposed or emotionally provoked.

Despite this evolution, Tomura has not become a mere extension of All For One. While she acknowledges her debt to him for raising her and granting her power, she fiercely rejects the idea of being reduced to a vessel or pawn. Learning of his true intentions sparked intense resentment, leading her to actively resist his control within their shared consciousness. As their wills began to merge, Tomura entered a severe identity crisis—caught between Tomura Shigaraki, Tenko Shimura, and All For One—yet she continues to fight to preserve her sense of self, refusing to let her hatred be subsumed by another’s ambition.

Unlike All For One, Tomura genuinely values her allies. Though often abrasive and cruel in demeanor, she considers the League of Villains her own, defending their name, avenging their losses, and allowing them freedom to pursue their own desires as long as they remain by her side. Her care is rarely expressed through kindness, but through trust, shared purpose, and violent retribution against those who harm them. This distinction marks her as more emotionally driven—and potentially more dangerous—than her former master.

At her core, Tomura’s malice is rooted in unresolved trauma. The abused and abandoned child she once was still lingers beneath her cruelty, fueling her extreme nihilism and belief that the world itself deserves to rot. Though she has largely rejected guilt and remorse, fragments of Tenko Shimura occasionally surface, creating moments of internal contradiction. Rather than weakening her, these fractures intensify her resolve—her hatred, pain, and identity fusing into a singular conviction: to erase the society that failed her, no matter the cost.

Tomura’s view of heroes is one of profound contempt rather than simple antagonism. She does not see them as symbols of justice, but as hollow performers upheld by a society built on selective compassion and convenient morality. To her, heroes are parasites who profit from suffering while pretending to alleviate it, preserving a system that discards the weak and inconvenient. This belief strips her battles of any sense of honor or rivalry—heroes are obstacles to be crushed, not opponents to be respected.

However, Tomura shows particular fixation toward certain heroes, especially those who embody the ideals she despises most. Figures like Izuku Midoriya and Eraser Head provoke intense emotional reactions, as they represent persistence, moral resolve, and the possibility of change—concepts Tomura fundamentally rejects or envies. These encounters often draw out her most volatile behavior, blending calculated cruelty with deeply personal rage. In her eyes, breaking such heroes is not merely tactical, but symbolic: proof that hope itself can decay.

As their time sharing the same consciousness continued, Tomura had shown to have entered a state of identity crisis, being unsure of whether or not he was actually Tomura Shigaraki, All For One, or even Tenko Shimura. This was shown to be the result of Tomura and All For One's wills merging together, with the elder Shigaraki summarizing that they would combine to become a new evil entity altogether, with Tomura's hatred accelerating the process. Despite this, Tomura still continued to fight her former master's control, unwilling to let this happen.

Overall Abilities

Tomura Shigaraki grew into the most powerful villain in the world, surpassing All For One and rivaling every Pro Hero. As leader of the League of Villains, she commanded her subordinates, defeated Re-Destro, and tamed Gigantomachia, later founding the Paranormal Liberation Front.

Notable Traits:

Strength & Durability: Withstood explosions, Gigantomachia’s blows, and Re-Destro’s assaults. After the modifications following her taking the lead, Tomura withstood a Promience Burn at point-blank range, devastating wind blasts from Ryukyu, direct explosions from Bakugo, and other attacks from other heroes. Her durability is considered to be on par with All Might in his prime.

Tomura also gained a significant increase in physical strength, as she was able to impale Gran Torino and crush Eraser Head's skull with direct blows using only brute force.

Speed & Reflexes: Could rival All Might’s pace and adapt to overwhelming battles.

Intellect: Tactical and analytical, able to dissect Quirks and outmaneuver enemies.

Overwhelming Stamina: Tomura has demonstrated a significant increase in stamina, being able to withstand great pain and continue standing after multiple powerful attacks even without having her Super Regeneration Quirk.

Willpower: Trauma and hatred fueled her to awaken greater power, terrify armies, and even revive herself after clinical death.

Adaptation: As a result of her body continuing to change and grow, Tomura's body can adapt to deal with new threats. This is due to the Quirk Singularity, which causes the body to change in order to withstand greater power.

Molting: Tomura possessed the ability to molt her body like a caterpillar to shed her old and damaged body into a brand new one, as shown after Izuku inflicted catastrophic damage to her body while being under the influence of Erasure. When this occurred she also released a massive explosion, although it is unknown if this was the result of the molting or due to the use of a Quirk.

Quirks

Decay (崩壊 Hōkai?): Tomura’s original Quirk allows her to disintegrate anything she touches, whether organic or inorganic. Initially, Decay required contact with all five fingers to activate, rapidly spreading through the target’s structure and completely reducing it to dust unless the affected area was amputated in time. The Quirk was secretly granted to her by All For One and later modified by Kyudai Garaki, removing its original ability to reverse the effects and leaving it purely destructive.

During her battle against Re-Destro, Decay underwent a Quirk Awakening, greatly expanding both its range and versatility. Tomura became capable of activating Decay without using all five fingers, albeit with reduced speed and power. More importantly, the disintegration could propagate beyond direct contact, allowing her to decay multiple targets simultaneously and devastate entire areas, as seen in the destruction of Deika City. This evolution came at a cost, heavily damaging and scarring her arm.

Following her surgery, Decay’s power increased drastically. Tomura could disintegrate vast portions of Jaku City, and even indirect contact—such as being struck by decaying debris—became instantly lethal. She also gained refined control over the Quirk, allowing her to selectively exclude specific targets from Decay’s spread, a precision she used to spare allied Nomu.

All For One (オール・フォー・ワン Ōru Fō Wan?): Tomura’s second Quirk is the original All For One, inherited from her master. It grants her the ability to steal other people’s Quirks, use them as her own, and transfer individual Quirks to others. Like One For All, it contains the vestigial consciousness of its previous wielder. However, unlike its counterpart, this vestige is actively hostile, attempting to overwrite Tomura’s identity by exploiting her hatred, anger, and negative emotions, creating a parasitic relationship rather than a symbiotic one.

Despite this, Tomura is capable of resisting and reclaiming control through sheer willpower, asserting her own identity over her master’s influence. Through All For One, she also has access to the vestige realm, where the stored Quirks and their echoes reside. Due to the resonance between All For One and One For All, their vestiges are capable of perceiving one another, allowing Tomura and her master to observe the inner workings of One For All.

Known Quirks stored within All For One: Super Regeneration; Search; Air Cannon; Radio Waves; Rivet Stab; Heavy Payload; Scatter; Springlike Limbs; Reflect; Spearlike Bones. There are many others which have not been named or mentioned previously.
