Ryusei Shido (士し道どう 龍りゅう聖せい Shidō Ryūsei?) is a contender of the Blue Lock, who currently plays as a center forward for France's Paris X Gen in the Neo-Egoist League. Shido, unlike most forwards, has no concrete dream of becoming the world's best female footballer. She instead seeks to enjoy life to the fullest by playing football; through scoring unique, creative, and "explosive" goals. Out of the original 300 forwards chosen to be a part of the Blue Lock Project, Shido is an ideal candidate for the type of striker Ego strives to create. After the Blue Lock Eleven played against the Japan U-20, Shido ranked as one of the top players in Blue Lock. Shido is a tall, tanned young woman with spiky blond hair with fading pink at the tips, having two strands falling on both sides of her face. She has pink colored irises with white slitted pupils in them like a cat, and she is of similar height and body building to Rin Itoshi. She is very expressive and is often seen with a joker-like grin or smirk. During the second half of the Japan U-20 match, Shido dons the #13 U-20 jersey with a black shirt under it and shorts. Shido is an eccentric player in Blue Lock who has a strong penchant for using her gun in lieu of physical altercations. At the core of Shido's personality is a drive to play football, which is a biological phenomenon that makes her feel complete. Shido scores goals to pass on her genes and leave her mark on the world; it is her sole focus. She gets excited from playing high-level football with other high-level players and is bored if people cannot make her "explode" or don't "explode" themselves. She can be considered the polar opposite of Rin Itoshi, being completely self-sufficient and instinctive in her football. A noticeable trait of Shido's has been her propensity for using her gun to get what she wants, often being unwilling to work with most people (if anybody at all). She seems completely aware and content with the toxicity of her behavior and only feels slight remorse once she is electrocuted and locked up for being overly aggressive and threatening serious bodily injury to others. She seems to get over such feelings when Sae Itoshi releases her from her behavioral captivity, asking her to join him in playing high-level football and clearing her to act however she wants as long as it's for Sae's sake. When released from Blue Lock under Sae's supervision, she seems to be even more openly aggressive with her gun and causes frequent quarrels with the Japan U-20 team's ace player Shuto Sendo, who initially doesn't respect Sae. Shido can be openly friendly and even affectionate towards others, such as Sae Itoshi, who gave her the opportunity to play with him and evolved her level of play in the process, showing her a type of football she had never experienced before. Shido can also be overtly and unnecessarily sexual at times, and though she is prone to using her gun, she also learns how to control her aggressive rampages in exchange for playing high-level football longer. Shido is able and willing to acknowledge other people's skills, praising Isagi for making the "best play" of the first game of the Third Selection (when Rin wouldn't) despite Isagi stealing a goal from her. By the time of the Neo-Egoist League, Shido is able to control her anger and aggressive tendencies enough to share the field with her most hated rival, Rin Itoshi. Archetypes Forwards: also known as strikers, have the main objective of scoring goals. They are often the players who get the most attention since their role is designed to be in a scoring position. They also take part in penalty kicks and corner kicks when the opposing team kicks the ball out of bounds. They are normally the players in charge of starting off the game at the start and halftime. Goal Poacher: Goal poachers are forwards who wait in the six-yard box or the penalty area for a cross, pass, or loose ball and pounce to try to score a goal. "Poaching" refers to the fact that they will often score a goal out of the slightest of opportunities, i.e., steal a goal. Goal poachers usually play as center forwards or second strikers. Shido, with her sharp reflex and monster instinct, has an uncanny ability to position herself at a critical point in the penalty box and score goals that most players wouldn't even think to attempt. Her self-sufficient play style revolves around her positioning herself perfectly towards the goal as she waits for the ball and scores goals. Shido also has tendencies to take shots in midair and can even do so without looking, a testament to her skill as a poacher. She is an expert at producing monstrous goals from inadequate positions. Skills Superior Football Technique: Shido is one of two players in Blue Lock who have top-tier stats, along with Rin Itoshi. During the Third Selection, she scored an average of 2 goals a game, the highest of any player besides Rin. A handful of players only rival her physical dominance, ball control, power, and kick accuracy. Though Rin can be described similarly, what separates the two is Shido's confidence in scoring goals alone, even if her experience of the game is hampered in any way, while Rin combines with her environment to score. Shido's skill and ego are so advanced that she was recognized by Sae, a genius of the professional world, and asked to join her on the Japan U-20 team. With Sae's guidance, Shido is able to evolve her level of play to new heights, scoring outrageous goals and forming a deadly duo that the Blue Lock Eleven struggled to deal with. Dominant Physicality: Shido is physically one of the strongest and most dominant players in Blue Lock. Her physical strength alone was enough to make Gurimu Igarashi feel like his skull was getting crushed. For a more objective demonstration, Shido was able to kick back Rensuke Kunigami, himself a physically imposing player. Shido is able to leverage her superior physical ability over opponents (such as the more technique-focused Reo Mikage) and break past them in an off-the-ball fight. She does this in a variety of ways, using her body and her opponent's to create momentum to break past them, or even jumping over them altogether. Aggressive Dribble: Shido uses her physical strength to move across the field erratically, either with the ball at her feet or without it. These movements can confuse even her teammates, along with her opponents. High Acceleration: As Reo states in their match in the Second Selection, her appearing immediately in front of him surprises him and acknowledges her speed. Extreme Spatial Awareness: Shido's main ability is her extreme spatial perception. As opposed to other types of spatial awareness that take into account the players' positions and weapons, Shido's spatial awareness is geared towards the goal at all times. This is the key to her perfect scoring ability within the penalty area, since Shido is able to "see" the goal whenever she is in the penalty area, even without physically facing it. In addition to this, when she is in Flow, Shido is able to perceive the location of the goal even outside the range of the penalty area. Reflexivity: Shido is able to reflexively take into account her position and her opponents to leverage her weapons for an ideal shot. Her reflexes and speed grant her the ability to get to any point on the field faster than others could, and her natural ability to use all of her body parts optimally allows her to perform incredible physical feats that are uncommon even to those at Blue Lock. She has shown this multiple times, most notably when she scored a goal in the Japan U-20 match, instantly reacting to Sae's high-speed pass. It is Shido's unrivaled instincts that make her such a potent scorer in and around the penalty area, establishing her as one of the most dangerous strikers in Blue Lock. Drive Shot: An accurate and powerful shot that is usually used from range, serving as Shido's main method of scoring. Shido is able to perform a drive shot from a multitude of positions, whether it is unfavorable or not. Shido is also able to avoid having to reset her positioning by using her superior physique and immense reflexes to make the Drive Shot happen. Bicycle Kick: An acrobatic strike where a player kicks an airborne ball rearward in midair. Bicycle kicks can be used defensively to clear away the ball from the goalmouth or offensively to strike at the opponent's goal in an attempt to score. Shido first performs this move in her debut match against Kunigami and Reo and scores an effortless goal on Kunigami, breaking down her defense completely. No-Look Goal: A skill that few strikers in the world can pull off; Shido jumps for the ball while turned away from goal and instinctively takes a shot without looking. This shot is incredibly fast and unpredictable, making it hard to react to. Reverse Spinning Drive Shot: When receiving the ball with her back to goal, Shido backs into an opponent and uses her physical strength to hold them in place, using their body weight to rotate on the spot and rising into an incredibly quick shooting motion. Dragon Drive: A shot made possible when combining her extreme reflexes with Sae's. While running at top speed, Shido leaps around an opposing defender and executes a jumping volley while using her signature kick, the Drive Shot. This shot was powerful and fast enough to score from outside the penalty area with little reaction from the other players on the field. Dragon Drive Heading: A combination of her reflexivity and dominant physicality, Shido runs to a preferred location and attempts to headbutt the ball. Given that she is moving at top speed and angled correctly, she acts almost like a bullet as she transfers all of her energy to the ball, allowing it to fly at an incredibly fast speed. Shido is able to apply so much power to this headbutt that not even Gin Gagamaru was able to stop it. Flow State: Flow, as Ego describes it, is the state of "total immersion" or "being in the zone." It is the mental state in which a person performing some activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and enjoyment in the process of the activity. The Blue Lock Eleven defense put pressure on Shido, inspiring her to enter Flow during the Japan U-20 match as she received passes from Sae. This led to her pushing her physical and perceptive abilities to their extremes, allowing her to score a super goal. Big Bang Drive: When she enters Flow, Shido is able to push her spatial awareness past its limit, "feeling" the location of the goal and performing a long-range bicycle kick, which lands directly in the goal. She used this to score directly from a clearance without having to reset her positioning in the U-20 match. Her given name, Ryusei (龍りゅう聖せい) means "a holy dragon." Ryu (龍りゅう) means "dragon," which can be where the name of her skill, Dragon Drive, comes from. Sei (聖せい) means "sacred," "holy," or "divine," contrasting how people often refer to Shido as a "demon." Phonetically, it can also refer to 流星, meaning "a shooting star." Her surname, Shido (士し道どう), means "a samurai code." Phonetically, it can also refer to 指導, meaning "guidance," "leadership," or "direction." Her name can thus be interpreted as "a samurai code of the holy dragon." Phonetically, her name can be interpreted as "a direction of the shooting star." Quotes (To Igarashi) "Anyone who can't keep up with my explosions can just die." (To Kunigami) "What's the word for that again? 'Sportsmanship?' Whatever you call that outdated kumbaya-loving bull chit? You see, to me, football's not just fun and games. It's the very act of living... an explosion of life, you could say. Let's have at it, hero. You won't find anyone as fair or as in love with football as me, you know?" (To herself) "All humans exist to leave behind a record of their existence. The very act of leaving behind one's genes is the basic programming given to all living things [...] And for me, that act just happens to be 'soccer.' Keep sharpening...to me, a goal is fertilization!! A shot is the 'seed' and the goal is the 'egg'!! And the birth of that joy I call an 'explosion!!' There it is! [...] My genes are going to knock you up!" Trivia The majority of this information is from the official Egoist Bible. Her birthplace is Tokyo, Japan. Her favorite manga is Chainsaw Man. Her favorite soccer player is Zlatan Ibrahimović. Her favorite music artist is Hide, and her favorite song is Hide - Pink Spider. If she impulsively bought something from a convenience store, it would be a Baby Star ramen. Her favorite food is yukhoe. Her least favorite food is beansprouts. She is the best fighter in the Blue Lock facility. If she received 100 million yen, she would divide them into 100 domino pieces (like into blocks) and play them like dominoes. Her favorite movie is A Clockwork Orange. Her favorite animal is the velociraptor (she finds the way they eat people cute). Her favorite subjects are Physical Education and Arts. She is apparently ambidextrous. On the question "Who is the best gentleman?" Shido ranks third in the list of the "Three Worst," after Sendo and Otoya. Her morning routine consists of going onto the balcony naked and soaking up the sunlight, dancing however she likes, and yelling whatever comes to her mind ("stuff like capillaries and flesh rupture!!"). When asked how old she was when she stopped getting presents from Santa, she said: "It's much more fun obtaining presents by yourself instead of receiving them from that red-white-middle-aged-fattie." When asked what was the last thing she asked Santa for, she said: "A world where Santa disappears." If it were her last day on Earth, she would watch it end. When Shido asked what she does for luck before a showdown, she said, "Take a sh*t." When asked when was the last time she cried, she said she last cried at the end of the day when she became nothing. At the core of Shidou's personality is a drive to play football not because it is a sport she enjoys, but because to her it is a biological phenomenon that makes her feel complete. She can also be overtly and unnecessarily sexual at times, and though she is prone to aggression, she learns to control her violent rampages in exchange for playing high-level football longer. Shidou has always been very clear about her attraction toward Sae Itoshi. She openly tells Sae that she likes him and asks for his number. To this, Sae responds by saying he’ll give it to her if Shidou scores a hat trick during their match against the Blue Lock Eleven. When Shidou scores a goal, she ignores the rest of her team and runs directly toward Sae to leap onto his back. She declares that she wants to play football with him forever and that with Sae she feels a ‘special sensation’ she's never experienced with anyone else before. Sae reminds Shidou that she needs to score a hat trick before she’s rewarded, even teasingly calling her a horny demon. Shidou fires back by asking Sae if she can move in with him if she scores 10 goals. At the end of the U-20 vs. Blue Lock Eleven match, where Shidou scored her three required goals (a hat trick), she reminds Sae of his promise to give her his number, and Sae responds teasingly by asking if he can at least shower first. Reaction This section is about fan reaction to the character's sexuality/gender identity. NOT THE IN-UNIVERSE REACTION. In-universe reactions would belong under sexuality/gender. This section is in need of major improvement. Please help improve this article by editing it. Relationships Sae Itoshi Shidou openly admits to liking Sae Itoshi and is very flirtatious with him. She asks for Sae’s number if she pulls off a hat trick and even asks to move in with him if she scores ten goals in one game. Sae is noted as the only person who can temper Shidou’s wild tendencies, affectionately calling her “his little demon.” Shidou has even confessed that she falls in love every time she plays football with Sae. A fellow U-20 player, Oliver Aiku, comments on how Shidou and Sae are a match made in heaven.
