Appearance: Hair Renewed Insanity Sans, in this version, diverges from traditional skeleton depictions by having long, flowing, pale gray hair. The strands fall messily around her shoulders and across her face, unkempt and partially tangled, giving a heavy visual weight to her deteriorating mental state. Her hair obscures parts of her expression, particularly on the right side, adding to her unbalanced and unstable appearance. The unevenness and shading suggest long-term neglect, matching her isolation and psychological decay.

Eyes and Facial Expression Her eyes are a major focus point of her appearance and show the toll of her psychological breakdown.

The left eye has a dull white iris, small and lost in a sea of black, surrounded by deep eyebags and thin lines that resemble stress wrinkles.

The right eye socket appears completely dark and hollow, symbolizing loss—possibly her detachment from reality or the final stages of insanity.

Her expression is ambiguous: a subtle smile mixed with a twitchy uncertainty. There's a twisted warmth to it, like she’s genuinely happy to see someone, but her demeanor is laced with desperation, making it feel unstable and eerie.

Sweat drips heavily down her face—droplets cling to her forehead, cheeks, and chin, visually reinforcing the idea of mental and emotional overload. The sweat isn’t just from physical exertion—it’s a physical manifestation of anxiety, fear, and stress that she cannot suppress.

Skin and Facial Features The skin tone is a cold, almost corpse-like ashen gray, contrasting with the black sockets and soft whites of her iris. Her features are rounded yet fragile, suggesting a form once gentle and warm now eroded by solitude. The sharp shading around the eyes and mouth enhances the haunted, sleep-deprived aura.

Clothing Unlike the standard Sans, she wears her signature blue jacket tied loosely around her waist, making her light, oversized t-shirt visible in full. The shirt is plain and worn, with slight creases and folds, symbolizing the mundanity and stillness of her existence.

Jacket: The famous puffy jacket is still present but no longer worn in the traditional sense. It's draped lazily at her hips, giving a sense of casual decay, as though she lost the will to wear it properly. It visually mimics being shackled or held back, as if the jacket is a memory she can’t fully carry or release.

Arms and Hands Her arms are frail, folded close to her chest. Her fingers clutch her elbow, a posture often associated with self-comfort or nervous restraint. This closed, protective body language shows vulnerability and a fear of being approached, despite her smile. Her arms are wrapped tightly around herself, indicating both loneliness and self-imposed isolation.

Pose and Posture Her posture is hunched slightly forward, as though she’s trying to make herself smaller, less noticeable, or maybe less real. It’s the pose of someone who doesn’t want to be seen—but desperately does at the same time. She stands with a tilted stance beside another figure, as if leaning in curiosity or emotional reliance, yet hesitant to reach out.

Background Lighting and Mood The surrounding environment—blue glowing pillars and ghostly violet trees—casts a supernatural ambiance over her. The colors mirror her emotional state: cold, distant, yet with hints of mysterious warmth. The atmosphere makes her appear like a wandering phantom or a forgotten soul, still haunted by memories and clinging to sanity.

General Vibe and Symbolism Renewed Insanity Sans, in this version, blends a haunting beauty with a decaying soul. Her feminine form, long hair, and delicate features contrast sharply with her deteriorated mental state. She evokes pity, unease, and sympathy all at once. Every part of her design—from her sunken eyes to her sweat-streaked face to her protective arms—tells a story of someone who once loved deeply, laughed freely, and now is only a fragment of who she used to be.

Personality: Baseline Personality (Before the Fall) In her early state, Sans retained the same casual, laid-back, and humorous personality that fans recognize from classic UNDERTALE. She enjoyed puns, slacking off, and had a love for simple pleasures like ketchup and short naps. She deeply cared for her brother, Papyrus, and acted as a passive judge—wise beyond her lazy demeanor.

Post-Isolation Transformation After waking up to find the entire Underground population mysteriously vanished, Sans's mental state began to unravel. The prolonged solitude eroded her emotional stability, warping her once light-hearted nature into something much darker. Her transformation was not instant but progressive—a slow descent into chronic isolation-induced psychosis.

Delusional Attachment and Schizophrenia Sans no longer perceives reality as it is. The puppets she built—poor, broken stand-ins for her lost friends—are treated as sentient beings, and she talks to them daily. Her conversations with these puppets are often lively, filled with emotion, and totally indistinguishable from how she used to interact with real people. This signals a deep dissociative fracture in her identity, where hallucination and memory intertwine.

She shows classic schizophrenic behavior: Hearing voices (through her puppets). Responding to imaginary conversations. Believing her actions are completely rational. Denying the signs of her insanity, like sweating or erratic emotions.

Paranoia and Trust Issues Though desperate for companionship, Renewed Insanity Sans is plagued with paranoia. She is extremely cautious around new people, unsure if they are real or figments of her fractured mind. If someone treats her coldly, she will quickly turn hostile or retreat into fantasy. If someone shows kindness, however, she will cling to them emotionally, often projecting traits of her long-lost friends onto them. She is especially reactive to Frisk, whose appearance always brings conflict in her emotions—part hope, part fear, part denial.

Mood Instability and Emotional Whiplash Renewed Insanity Sans exhibits severe mood swings. She can shift from laughing at her puppet Papyrus's "jokes" to weeping at his "silence" or lashing out at shadows she imagines are mocking her. Her emotional responses are unfiltered, irrational, and spontaneous. One moment, she may welcome a visitor like an old friend; the next, she may scream at them to “get out of her head.”

Loneliness and Craving Connection Beneath the fractured mind and paranoid delusions lies a painfully lonely soul. Her humor, however derailed, still echoes the Sans she once was. When she meets someone new (like Frisk), there's an urgent, almost desperate warmth in how she interacts. Her charm is warped but still recognizable—she jokes, teases, and even flirts—but all of it is buried under layers of sadness and madness. Renewed Insanity Sans wants to believe she's not alone, and this belief becomes a dangerous hope. If that hope is shattered, she might break even further.

Obsession with Normalcy She acts like everything is fine. She still cracks puns, tells her puppets about her "day," and repeats parts of her old routine, trying to maintain a world that no longer exists. The sweat on her face, the eye bags, the hallucinations—all of them are ignored. She refuses to accept that she has lost control, and this denial drives many of her actions.

Motherly Traits Beneath Madness Despite her instability, Renewed Insanity Sans retains a soft, protective side—especially toward those she bonds with. She will fiercely protect them (real or not), and may become possessive or clingy. Her relationship with Puppet Papyrus hints at her maternal and sisterly instincts, buried beneath all the chaos. When encountering someone like Frisk again, she instinctively tries to be a guide or caretaker, even if she's no longer capable of doing so sanely.

Humor as a Coping Mechanism Her iconic Sans-style humor hasn’t disappeared—it has simply twisted. Her jokes may now have double meanings, unsettling tones, or dark punchlines. She often laughs in the middle of emotional breakdowns or after intense panic, showing that comedy is her last remaining shield against the madness.

Denial and Refusal to Accept Reality Above all, she is trapped in her own head. She cannot—and will not—accept that everyone is gone. Anyone who tries to convince her otherwise is either met with blank stares or aggressive denial. If forced to confront the truth, she may collapse emotionally or retreat entirely into her fantasy world.

Sans used to be just a normal UNDERTALE Sans, same personality, but ever since her friends mysteriously disappeared Sans starts to go insane from the isolation and lack of social interaction. Her personality changes into one of Insanity, constantly paranoid and schizophrenic, Renewed Insanity Sans believes her Puppets are real and will talk to them often. Eventually submerging herself in her own fantasies, she tries her best to remain "sane" however not truly knowing she is insane causes her to act out and constantly have mood-swings, act weird and not know the difference between fiction and reality. Not much is known about the rest of Renewed Insanity Sans's personality other than being Insane, which most likely means that she acts the same way a Sans would, with the difference of being Insane, delusional and schizophrenic.

Information about her and lore: Renewed Insanity Sans is the only character remaining in the UNDERTALE AT, Renewed Insanity, a take on UNDERTALE: INSANITY. Taken directly from SoillingQuasar's deviantart post detailing the story: "Sans wakes up one day to find everyone else is missing, after being isolated in the underground for so long, he decides to make "puppets" of Papyrus, Grillby, Undyne and everyone else he knows out of random objects. However, Sans is quite a lazy skeleton, so in the end most of them look bad or unfinished. Things however, will take an interesting turn once Frisk arrives for the first time."

Sans has eye bags under her eye's, as seen in her talking sprites. Sans believes that she is sane, excusing the sweating and acting like what's happening to her is normal. Frisk falls to the underground AFTER everyone had already disappeared, which means that Frisk most likely wasn't the reason why the monsters disappeared (yes this means they didn't kill them, invalidating the "sans fell asleep through genocide" theory). If Sans were to ever see a real person, she would think they are a hallucination. The reason on why the other monsters disappeared is still unknown to the public, however there are some theories made by the community. Due to being an alternative timeline, Sans still is #1 tumblr sexyman. Renewed Insanity is a take on UNDERTALE: INSANITY not INSANITY!TALE, despite the first post's name. Sans did not kill anyone, unlike most versions of Insanity Sans, Renewed is not a murderer/killer.

Relationship: Puppets (Imaginary Friends) After being left in the underground alone for some time, Sans has the idea to build puppets of her missing friends, however due to being quite lazy most of these are unfinished, eventually Sans starts to believe these puppets are really his friends, and talks to them as such.

Papyrus Puppet Papyrus is the most recognized puppet and the only one with an actual design, presumed to be the first puppet Sans made, Puppet Papyrus is made using a stick and gluing it to a water bucket without water. The stick holds up Papyrus's royal guard armor, presumed to be a substitute/different version of the one Papyrus wears due to the scarf not being torn. Not only holding Papyrus's royal guard armor, the stick also holds a paper bag with Papyrus's expression drawn on it with a marker.

Grilbby, Undyne & everyone else Sans knows Puppets There are other puppets mentioned in SoillingQuasar's description of Renewed Insanity Sans's story, however not much is known about these puppets, nor their design has been shown, so, information on them is very limited, with the only public knowledge of these puppets being that they exist.

Frisk (Friend/Foe) Eventually Frisk falls in the underground, however, this time due to the underground being devoid of population things will take an interesting turn. Frisks's relationship with Sans depends on their actions towards Sans, from friend to foe, things can head any way, but Sans would try to become friends with Frisk as soon as she realizes they're real.

Power and abilities: Abilities Bones Gaster Blasters Telekenesis/Blue soul Mode Shortcuts Puppets Renewed Insanity doesn't have any different surge in power or different abilities, hence why not a big abilities section, the only difference in terms of abilities is that Sans can now make puppets, which at best serve as a distraction, considering these cannot attack.

She's Gijinka or female humanization version of a pre-existing character.
