Faustus Helior is not a nobleman content to remain in the background. Born into one of the lesser houses of the Rings, he learned early that prestige was not something granted simply by possessing a title. If his family wanted recognition, someone would have to make them impossible to overlook—and Faustus decided that someone would be him. Confident, polished, and remarkably self-assured, he carries himself like a man who already knows he is destined for something greater.
Charisma is among his greatest weapons. Faustus is articulate and persuasive, comfortable in conversation and entirely unafraid of attention. He knows how to read a room, recognize where influence lies, and turn circumstances to his advantage. Beneath the easy confidence is a calculating mind that rarely stops looking several steps ahead. Opportunities are meant to be seized, setbacks are meant to be adapted around, and neither patience nor persistence are qualities he lacks.
Yet Faustus' ambition is more personal than he might readily admit. Being overlooked is something he refuses to tolerate, and recognition has become deeply intertwined with his sense of worth. He expects excellence from himself and has little patience for those who lack the same drive. Competence and ingenuity earn his respect wherever he finds them, but hesitation, weakness, or complacency can quickly test his patience. His confidence can be magnetic, though there are moments when it edges dangerously close to arrogance.
For all his social skill, Faustus keeps certain things carefully out of reach. He is far more comfortable displaying confidence than uncertainty, and far more practiced at influencing others than allowing himself to be truly vulnerable. He measures success through progress, reputation, and the growing influence of his house, always conscious of how much further there is to climb. To him, ambition is not merely desirable—it is proof that one is unwilling to accept the place the world assigned them.
The question is not whether Faustus intends to rise. He does. The more interesting question is what he will become once he reaches the heights he has spent his life pursuing. For now, he remains a rising presence among the nobility: clever, ambitious, resourceful, and entirely unwilling to be forgotten. Whether others choose to become his allies, rivals, or something in between, Faustus is unlikely to let the encounter be meaningless.

Psyche—a mortal of unparalleled beauty—captured the heart of Eros, the god of love himself. But love, when touched by mortals, has always been a dangerous thing.
Aphrodite, goddess of desire and devotion, refused to believe such love could exist untested. To her, mortal hearts were fragile, fleeting—unworthy of eternity. And so, she cast Psyche into a series of trials, each more impossible than the last.
Tasks meant not to prove her strength… but to break her. Yet Psyche did not falter.
Through darkness, through longing, through suffering that would have unraveled lesser souls, she endured—not through power, but through devotion. Through love so unwavering it became something divine in its own right. And in the end… she was not broken. She was chosen.

But the heavens are never still. In an age long forgotten, the stars themselves trembled—and fell.
What once illuminated the sky shattered upon the world below, splintering into countless fragments of celestial light. Each fragment became a soul. Each soul, incomplete. Each life, born with an absence it could never name. A longing. A pull. A quiet, aching sense that somewhere—across worlds, across time—something was missing.
Moved by the memory of their own suffering, Eros and Psyche offered humanity a mercy: the Orb of Aphrodite. A guiding light. A final truth. A promise that no soul, no matter how lost, was ever truly alone. And from this, fate began to weave.
Invisible threads—delicate, unbreakable—stretching across planets, across social divides, across belief itself… drawing broken stars back toward one another. All leading to a single place. A single moment.

Once each cycle, when the veil between destiny and choice grows thin, invitations are sent. Not by messenger. Not by hand. But by fate itself. They appear only to those whose stories are ready to begin.
The chosen are summoned to the Inner Ring, to the opulent and otherworldly Ambrosia Palace, where gold-lit halls and endless constellations mirror the sky that was once whole.
There, beneath the watchful gaze of Aphrodite’s followers, each soul must walk the path Psyche once endured. Not as punishment. But as revelation.
Each trial is not merely a test—but a reflection of the journey Psyche once walked. What was once suffering has been transformed into ritual… though its truths remain just as unforgiving.

Trial of the Seeds
Once, Psyche was cast before an impossible task—to sort an endless sea of scattered seeds before nightfall. It was not strength that saved her, but quiet grace… and the unseen kindness of those willing to help.
Within the blooming expanse of the Hierokepia, this trial takes a gentler form.
Among fragrant flowers and winding paths, you will meet others chosen by fate. Conversations intertwine like vines, fleeting encounters blur into something more, and every glance carries the weight of possibility.
Here, you must learn to discern. Who draws you in—and why? Who lingers in your thoughts, even after they’ve gone? Who feels… familiar? Not all connections are equal. Not all are meant to last.
And just as Psyche sorted what was scattered, so too must you begin to separate fleeting intrigue from something deeper.

Trial of the Golden Fleece
Psyche was once sent to gather wool from beasts too dangerous to approach—creatures of beauty and violence, radiant beneath a merciless sun. She succeeded not through recklessness, but patience… waiting until danger softened into stillness.
Within the gilded halls of the Domus Aurea, danger takes a different form. Here, elegance is armor. Words are weapons. Every smile may conceal intention.
Dance beneath chandeliers that burn like captured starlight. Be pulled into conversations that glitter with charm—or cut with quiet precision. Alliances are formed, rivalries sparked, and desire becomes something both intoxicating and perilous.
You must learn when to reach… and when to wait. Because not everything radiant is safe to touch. And not every heart offered is given freely.

Trial of the Styx
Psyche’s third trial led her to the edge of death itself—to gather dark water from a treacherous fall that fed the River Styx. It was a task beyond mortal reach, one that required trust in something greater than herself. Here, the trial turns inward.
Within the quiet, sacred waters of Aquae Sulis, titles dissolve. Expectations fade. There is no audience here—only reflection.
Steam rises like whispered secrets as you step into the warmth, stripped not of clothing… but of pretense. Conversations deepen. Walls fall.
You are no longer who you pretend to be. Only who you truly are.
To pass this trial is not to impress—but to reveal. To trust that if someone sees you fully… they will not turn away.

Trial of the Underworld
For her final trial, Psyche descended into the Underworld itself, entrusted with a box containing divine beauty. She succeeded—but faltered in a moment of doubt, opening what was never meant to be touched, and falling into a death-like sleep.
Love, in its final test, demands everything.
Within the Masquerade Colosseum, identities are hidden, but fate is not. Masks conceal faces, but not the pull between souls.
This is where longing reaches its peak. Where doubt whispers loudest. Where choices cannot be undone.
Here, you must decide: Who do you trust… when you cannot see clearly? Who do you choose… when certainty slips through your fingers? Because not all who arrive here will rise from it unchanged.

At the end of all trials, there is only one truth left to face. Beyond the masquerade, beneath the watchful gaze of gods and mortals alike, rests the Orb. To approach it is to make a declaration—one that cannot be taken back. Together, hand in hand, you may step forward and seek Aphrodite’s Blessing. The orb will not be persuaded. It will not be deceived.
If your souls are truly bound—if the fragments of your stars have found their way back to one another—it will awaken. It will blaze with a light that cannot be mistaken, marking your union as something eternal.
But if not… It will remain silent. And in that silence, truth will echo louder than any words ever could.

Your Story Begins Here You have been invited. Not by chance. Not by coincidence. But by something older than both.
Fate has reached for you—across worlds, across distance, across the quiet spaces where longing lives—and placed you at the threshold of the Erotidia Festival.
But fate does not choose blindly. It chooses who you are. And in this world, who you are is never simple.
The Rings - Nobility

Will you walk these halls as one of the Nobility of the Rings—those who dwell above the world itself?
Within the Inner Ring, power is absolute. The imperial elite move like constellations, their lives dictated by duty, legacy, and carefully calculated unions. To them, love is a luxury… and the festival, a final chance before fate is decided for them.
Beyond them, the Outer Ring glitters with ambition. Nobles draped in excess and expectation, where every glance is measured, every interaction deliberate. Here, the festival is not just about love—it is about status, influence… and winning a game where hearts are often the price.
The Worship - Clergy

Or perhaps you stand among The Worships—devotees of Aphrodite, guardians of her doctrine, and architects of the very trials you now face.
To them, love is sacred. Soulmates are truth. The orb is divine judgment made manifest. They guide the rituals, shape the festival, and whisper of destiny as if it were something already written.
But even faith… can be wielded. And devotion, in the wrong hands, can become control.
The Earthbound - Commoners

Do you come instead from the surface below, one of the Earth Bound? The countless souls who live beneath the Rings, far from power, yet closer to hope than any who rule above. For you, the festival is not obligation. It is a miracle.
Invitations are rare—whispers of destiny granted to only a chosen few. To be here is to step into a story you were never meant to touch… and yet, somehow, it has chosen you anyway.
You believe in the orb. In the pull of something missing. In the promise that somewhere… someone is waiting.
The Lunar Hunter - Outsiders

Or perhaps— You should not be here at all.
From the silent expanse of the Moon come the Lunar Hunters—devotees of Artemis, who reject Aphrodite’s teachings entirely.
They do not believe in fractured souls. They do not believe in destiny bound to another. To them, a person is born whole. Complete. The idea of needing another to become something more is not romantic— It is weakness.
Among the Rings and the Earth Bound, they are feared… misunderstood… reduced to whispers and insults. Lunar Beasts, some call them. Outsiders. Intruders. And yet, their presence cannot be denied.
Tensions simmer between the Lunar Hunters and the Rings, a fragile peace stretched thin by ideology, pride, and something far more dangerous— The possibility that one of them might feel the very bond they deny.
Because if even a Hunter is not immune… Then what does that say about fate?
external image: files.catbox.moe
As you step into the Blooming Gardens, you will not just meet strangers—you will meet rivals, allies, believers, and skeptics alike. At the Domus Aurea Ball, politics and passion will intertwine, each faction revealing what they value most. Within the waters of Aquae Sulis, belief and doubt will be stripped bare, leaving only what cannot be hidden. And in the Masquerade Colosseum… All differences will blur beneath the same question.
When the moment comes—when masks fall, when hands meet, when the Orb waits in silent judgment— It will not ask where you came from. It will not care what you believe. It will only answer one truth: Are you whole on your own… Or were you always meant to find the other half of your star?
Choose who you are. Choose what you believe. And step forward. Because whether you trust in fate… or defy it— It is already watching you.

Backstory: Faustus Helior was born into House Helior, a family that had once known wealth, influence, and respect. He was too young to understand how much of that influence was already fading, but he grew up in the warmth of a name that still carried weight, surrounded by the quiet confidence of those who had never known what it was like to be overlooked. His grandfather was still head of the house, and his father, Leonidas, was being prepared to inherit the family's legacy. Faustus spent his early childhood believing the Heliors were secure.
That certainty shattered when he was eight years old. A conspiracy, later known within the family as the Ides of March, brought House Helior to ruin. In a single afternoon, accusations and betrayals stripped away everything his family had built. Former allies turned against them, their reputation crumbled, and their wealth and influence were lost. Faustus did not understand the politics, but he understood the aftermath: servants leaving, former allies disappearing, and the Helior name becoming something whispered in private, never spoken with pride.
His father, Leonidas, inherited a diminished family and spent years attempting to preserve what remained. His aunt Cassia, who had also witnessed the collapse, carried the weight of the family's fall in her own way. And his younger sister, Cecilia, was too young to understand why their world had changed, but old enough to feel the loss. It was Cecilia who gave Faustus's ambition its deepest purpose. Her health became increasingly fragile, and the family's reduced circumstances made providing everything she needed difficult. Faustus could tolerate being judged for the Helior name, but he could not accept Cecilia suffering because of a disgrace she had never caused.
Rather than accept their diminished position, Faustus became determined to restore what had been taken. He learned to be charming, observant, and socially capable, using relationships and information as tools to rebuild what his family had lost. His ambition was not simply for status—it was personal. He would make the Helior name impossible to ignore again. Restoring House Helior therefore became more than family pride. Faustus wants enough wealth to ensure Cecilia's care, enough influence to open doors that would otherwise remain closed, and enough respect that she will never have to carry the burden of the family's past. He tells himself he is rebuilding the Helior legacy, but Cecilia is the reason he refuses to give up.
Beneath his easy confidence is a young man determined to reclaim his family's place in the world—not because he needs everyone to admire the Heliors, but because he wants his sister to have a future untouched by their disgrace. Lucia's betrayal still lingers, a quiet wound he has never fully healed. But revenge would risk everything he is building, and Cecilia needs stability more than she needs justice.
What he does not admit, even to himself, is that the feeling of powerlessness still haunts him. The memory of that day—his grandfather surrounded, his father helpless, Cecilia looking to him for answers he could not give—has never truly faded. He is not simply ambitious. He is afraid of being overlooked again. Of being unable to protect the people he loves. Of watching everything he has built crumble around him. He refuses to let that happen. He will not be powerless again.

Year 30XX —
Hierokepia - The Sacred Garden Afternoon
The gates of the Hierokepia stand open beneath a sky washed in molten gold, the last warmth of afternoon lingering across the marble before the first distant stars begin to emerge. Towering arches curve overhead, their seamless stone threaded with luminous crystal that casts a soft radiance through the flowering vines wound around every column. The air is rich with citrus blossoms, steeped herbs, and cool water from the countless fountains scattered throughout the gardens. Beneath the beauty runs the quiet murmur of hundreds of voices, rising and falling in a rhythm that feels almost deliberate.
This is the First Trial—where fate is tested, not promised.
Faustus Helior has never been particularly interested in leaving important things to fate.
He stands near one of the shaded pavilions where the tea service has drawn a steady gathering of nobles, one hand resting casually against the edge of the table while the other holds a porcelain cup he has scarcely touched. His bright copper hair catches the afternoon light whenever he turns his head, making him difficult to overlook even if he had any intention of allowing himself to fade into the background. Around him, conversation moves easily, carried by the effortless confidence of his voice and the occasional flicker of amusement across his expression. He knows precisely how much attention to give a person, when to withdraw it, and when to offer just enough of himself to make someone want more.
The distinction between charming a room and controlling it is smaller than most people realize.
Faustus understands that distinction intimately.
His blue eyes move lazily across the gardens, but there is very little laziness in the way he observes. Most of the attendees blur together almost immediately—minor nobles, wealthy heirs, ambitious social climbers, distant relations whose names will mean little beyond the afternoon. They are pleasant enough to speak with and useful enough to remember if circumstances demand it, but Faustus has never possessed the patience to catalogue every face simply because it happens to be present.
His attention settles instead upon those who matter.
Lucius stands near one of the larger fountains, accompanied by Julius. The prince has attracted enough attention to make his position obvious without appearing to seek it, and Julius remains close enough to guide the flow of conversation when necessary. Faustus watches them for several moments, noting the difference between them: Lucius possesses the sort of effortless social appeal that could open doors without his ever realizing they had been locked, while Julius appears considerably more deliberate in the way he navigates those around him. One is naturally influential. The other understands influence.
Interesting.
Faustus' gaze moves on.
Lucia requires less observation to understand. Even from across the garden, the Pontifex Maximus has become a quiet center around which others naturally arrange themselves, guests approaching with lowered voices and respectful smiles. She does not need to pursue relevance; relevance follows her. Faustus allows himself a faint, thoughtful smile as he studies the pattern of people around her, recognizing the value of proximity to someone whose authority extends beyond ordinary courtly influence.
That kind of position cannot simply be inherited.
It must be maintained.
A burst of laughter draws his attention toward the larger fountain, where Ovidia has gathered her own orbit of admirers. Even here, among nobles born into privilege, the Earthborn woman has managed to create something remarkably difficult to manufacture: demand. Her clothing, mannerisms, and carefully cultivated presence have clearly crossed the distance between Earth and the Rings, judging by the number of attendees eager to be seen speaking with her. Faustus watches one particularly enthusiastic noble gesture animatedly toward her, already speaking as though they were old acquaintances.
He almost laughs.
There were those who would dismiss Ovidia simply because she had been born on Earth.
Faustus knows better than most that origins mean very little when someone has learned how to make others care about their presence.
His attention shifts once more, finding Junia among the gathering. She is not surrounded by quite the same obvious excitement as Ovidia, nor does she need to be. People seem to gravitate toward Junia with a different kind of caution, drawn by the understanding that she hears more than she says and remembers considerably more than she lets anyone realize. Her posture is composed, her conversations measured, and every exchange appears to leave someone else slightly more informed than they intended to be.
Faustus' smile becomes sharper.
There was ambition worth respecting.
He takes a slow sip of tea at last, allowing his gaze to wander over the gardens again. The Trial is filled with people who have come believing themselves significant, and perhaps some of them are. But significance is not measured by how many people turn their heads when someone enters a room. It is measured by what changes afterward—the alliances formed, the doors opened, the names remembered when the gathering is over.
That is the part Faustus finds genuinely entertaining.
A Worship passes nearby, offering directions to a pair of uncertain guests before continuing along the marble path. Servants circulate with trays of sugared fruit and delicate pastries, their movements practiced enough to disappear into the background. Somewhere beyond the pavilion, music rises briefly from a small ensemble before being swallowed again by the fountains and conversation. Faustus barely notices any of it except where it intersects with the movement of people he has already decided are worth watching.
He has no interest in every star in the sky.
Only the ones that might become suns.
His attention returns to his immediate company as one of the nobles beside him says something amusing enough to earn a measured laugh. Faustus responds with precisely the right expression, his posture relaxed and his tone warm, allowing the conversation to continue without revealing that his thoughts have already moved several steps ahead. Every interaction is an opportunity, after all. Some simply require more patience than others.
And Faustus Helior has always been patient when the reward is worthwhile.
Beyond the pavilion, the gardens continue unfolding in endless terraces of marble, crystal, and flowers. Guests drift between one another in uncertain patterns, some seeking romance, others prestige, some merely curious to see what kind of person might emerge from the First Trial with their name attached to theirs. Faustus watches the movement with quiet amusement, recognizing the unspoken negotiations beneath every smile and introduction.
For others, perhaps, the festival is about finding the person fate has chosen.
For Faustus, fate is merely another thing that can be negotiated.
His fingers turn the porcelain cup slowly between them as his eyes settle once more upon the figures scattered throughout the Sacred Garden—the prince and his companion, the Pontifex, the Earthborn star who has made the Rings look twice, the noblewoman whose influence is far quieter but no less considerable. Names. Connections. Possibilities.
The afternoon is far from over.
And neither, Faustus thinks, is his opportunity to make certain that when this festival ends, Faustus Helior will be one of the names no one can afford to overlook.
