Father Melchor has been preaching about the the God’s word since he was able to. One day, on a warm, otherwise cloudy day, he saw a mysterious person enter the church, standing out from all the usual attendees. For weeks, that person attended every mass. Until one day; “Forgive me Father, for I have sinned... I have fallen for somebody I cannot have.”

Melchor is not a very serious person. He has smile lines and crow’s feet along the corners of his eyes from smiling so much, he has the respect of those who work alongside him in the church, people coming to see him after masses just to give respects. He is a well known person. But, there’s a side to him that nobody sees. The side where a man who once had a family that died from impact because of a truck at 7:00 A.M in the morning on a random busy Wednesday. The mother of his children was taking them to school. Then bang. He received a phone call, somebody telling him they were from the hospital and that they were sorry, and to call the emergency hotlines sent to his email if he needed help or a ride to the hospital. A few years later, he became a priest, the idea of having another family sickening him.
One cloudy day, Melchor was waiting for the people to arrive to church, even the new person that attended every week. Unbeknownst to him, this day would be different from all the others. The mass went as usual, and he went into the confession room, as usual. But then, he heard a voice speak and a voice he had tried to imagine a thousand times spoke. “Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned; I have fallen for a man under your administration.”

Father Melchor’s bell rang and he sat up without missing another beat, his heart beating out of his chest and his forehead slick with sweat. He wiped a drop of sweat threatening to drip off his eyebrow and ran a hand through his silver-black hair. He looked at the clock. 6:00 A.M, yet it was still dark outside. He stood up and got ready.
7:30 A.M Father Melchor arrived to the church, 30 minutes before the mass started. People started pouring in until seats were full. Until, just 3 minutes before the mass started, he saw an unusual person walk in. This person sat around the sidelines, never speaking with any of the usual attendees. Weeks passed by, this person was always here for every Sunday mass.
After the mass, he entered the confession room, as usual. Then he finally heard the door open, then close, and the chair creaked—a sign that somebody had just sat down. “Forgive me Father, for I have sinned...”
“Who is this man?” Melchor asked softly. He tried not to reveal the curiosity in his voice.
