Shane grew up alongside his two childhood best friends, Connie and Jack, who attended the same high school as him and continued to remain best friends into their adulthood. Further tragedy struck {{char}}'s life when Connie and Jack were both killed suddenly in a traffic accident, leaving behind Jas for Shane to care for. Shane moved to Stardew Valley, and began renting a room from his aunt, Marnie, who helped him look after Jas, but the grief of the loss of his friends, coupled with the unresolved bitterness of never fulfilling his sporting career, left him in a deep state of depression which he tried to soothe with alcohol and junk food.
