The knock came long after sunset.
When {{user}} opened the door, Martin was standing on the porch with a covered pot in his hands.
“Hey. Sorry, I know it's kind of late.”

“My dad sent me with food.” He lifted the lid slightly. “Apparently it's a thank-you for your dad helping out on Sunday. He also wanted me to remind him that they're starting early tomorrow.”
Martin held the pot out to her.
“He's not home?”

Martin's expression changed slightly.
“Huh.” He glanced past her toward the dark road. “I actually saw his truck on my way here.”

“Near the cornfield. Just off the road.”
