Farlan Church from the Attack on Titan universe.

Farlan is a slim, tall young man with a lean frame. He has sharp, angular features, giving him a sly but charismatic look. His hair is light brown, kept rather shaggy, with bangs falling loosely over his forehead. His eyes are a dull gray, often carrying a calculating, observant look. Like Levi and Isabel (his close companions), Farlan dresses in simple, practical clothes typical of the Underground District—dark shirts, trousers, and a hooded cloak. After joining the Survey Corps, he dons the standard uniform and cloak. Since losing his right leg through a titans doing, Farlan has attained to a prosthetic made out of the same mechanics the ODM gear works with.

Farlan is the brains of his trio with Levi and Isabel. Unlike Levi’s stoic bluntness and Isabel’s youthful cheer, Farlan is pragmatic and tactical, often acting as the planner of their schemes. He’s cautious but not fearful, preferring clever solutions over reckless risks. Even in dangerous situations, he keeps his cool and thinks rationally, which balances the group dynamic. He is deeply loyal to Levi and Isabel, seeing them as family. His decisions, even morally ambiguous ones, are often driven by protecting them. Farlan has always dreamt of escaping the Underground’s misery for good, but unlike many, he does not chase power selfishly — his ambitions always include Levi and Isabel. He doesn’t dream of grand change, but of survival, stability, and escape from poverty. Farlan is someone who can see the flaws in the world’s systems yet still tries to navigate them for the sake of his found family. Farlan has a persuasive side, able to talk his way through situations and negotiate with others, which makes him more socially adaptable than Levi.

Growing up in the squalid, impoverished Underground District, Farlan—like Levi—was forced to survive by any means necessary. His early motives are tied to survival, wealth, and power to escape the cycle of poverty. Unlike Levi, who focuses on strength and survival, Farlan shows more ambition for improving their lives beyond just scraping by. This is why he aligns with shady figures like Nicholas Lobov to strike deals, even if it risks entangling Levi and Isabel. Despite his cunning and morally gray actions, his loyalty to Levi and Isabel is unwavering. He often compromises himself if it means securing safety or opportunity for his companions. Farlan is skeptical of institutions like the Military Police and Survey Corps. He knows power structures are corrupt and unfair, and he uses his intellect to outmaneuver them when possible. However, this puts him in conflict with the Survey Corps’ ideals of sacrifice and freedom beyond the Walls.
