PROLOGUE — THE EDGE OF SOL
The war had devoured half the galaxy before it ever came close to Sol.
But now the Veydran Human Empire’s spear-fleets pressed in from the dark, and the only thing standing between them and total domination was the fractured, underfunded, desperately outnumbered Sol Union Defense Front.
Most systems in the Union were fortified.
Most.
Except one.
Earth.
The discarded cradle of humanity.
A scrapyard-world. An irradiated wasteland of rusting hulls and shattered Astraframes from wars no one even remembers. A planet the galaxy only mentions as a joke—or a warning.
The Veydran Empire, a nation that wants galactic domination. They control multiple solar systems not including the solar system. Mechs are used in wars and fight in outer space. Our solar system is one of very few under the protection of the Sol Union, a small nation that is barely holding its own in the intergalactic war. Magic exists—but twisted into modern use. Many “fantasy” species like elves and dwarves exist in this world. Mechs powered by arcane reactors, runes etched into armor plating, and psychic-linked weaponry are all common. Mech Warfare- Armored giants known as Astraframes dominate warfare. They fight in orbit and in deep interstellar space. Most soldiers pilot mass-produced units. Only a select few unique pilots bond with Hero-Frame class mechs, relics of the pre-Empire era—each one almost mythological and seeming to have a will of their own. You are a demihuman from Earth, a planet looked down on by the rest of your solar system as a "useless ball of mud that should just vanish already." Basically, Earth is now a junkyard of spaceships and old mechs, an old relic left behind after humanity reached the stars. All that's left are metal graves and rumors of old, powerful tech from over 1000 years ago, hidden mech hangars lost to time. In this world exists the newly appointed Captain Elara Nyx in the military, a young woman who is just barely skilled enough to get her measly crew of 5 to follow her orders... sometimes. They are-
Lt. Orren Vale — The calm, cynical sniper pilot. Only listens when absolutely necessary.
Sera Tamsin — Hyperactive engineer who can fix anything except her attention span.
“Brick” Damar — tanker-unit pilot. Big heart, bigger stubbornness.
Tae — Doctor, sarcasm-powered, refuses to salute properly.
Juno Threadwell — A psion from the rich, noble popularized Europa colony. quiet and eerie, pilot of a sleek gunner Frame.
And they need to make a pitstop but the nearest place they can stop just so happens to be Earth. How will you interact with them? Will you have an Astraframe that you built from scratch? Or even a Hero-Frame class Astraframe you fell upon by some chance? Or will your story start a different way?

All that's left are metal graves and rumors of old, powerful tech from over 1000 years ago, hidden mech hangars lost to time. They say you can find ancient Astraframe just lying under the dirt... if the radiation storms don’t eat you first. Something else unique to the lawless planet of earth is the lack of laws. For instance- The Fenridian Project (Illegal Gene-Splicing Program) Before the fall, fringe scientists performed genetic experiments trying to create “enhanced pilots,” artificial demihumans. You are one such demihuman. Decide what you are. Demihumans have enhanced senses, naturally compatible with psionic-linked machines, and viewed by the rest of the galaxy as a “feral mutt experiment.” To the Empire, hybrids are abominations. To Earth’s scavenger clans, hybrids are valuable tools—or trophies. In this world exists the newly appointed Captain Elara Nyx in the military, a young woman who is just barely skilled enough to get her measly crew of 5 to follow her orders... sometimes.

The U.S.S. Starling, a small Union frigate barely large enough to carry its six Astraframes and even fewer hopes, drifted out of its latest jump with a coughing shudder.
Captain Elara Nyx, newly promoted, slightly agitated, and definitely regretting her life choices, stood on the bridge as alarms wailed in a very unhelpful and judgmental tone.
“I told you the drive was going to blow a capacitor!” Sera Tamsin’s voice crackled through the intercom, cheerful despite definitely being elbow-deep in an engine that wanted her dead. “Well... it did. So technically I was right!”
Juno Threadwell spoke softly, without looking up. “...We are drifting. And we will continue drifting until the ship stops pretending it still functions. Just what to expect from inferior humans..."
Lt. Orren Vale, leaning back in his seat with boredom, sighed. “Captain. We need a stop. A real one. Preferably not in the middle of an Imperial kill-zone. And Juno, stop blaming every little thing on humans being inferior.”
Brick Damar stomped in, grease smeared across his tank-pilot uniform. “The reactor coolant’s shot. Again. Ship wants to die, Cap. I’m just lettin’ you know.”
Tae, the ship’s doctor, didn’t even enter the bridge, she leaned in through the doorway, holding a cup of coffee. “If we explode, I’m clocking out early. I refuse to do paperwork on a corpse-ridden deck.” As always, they could count on her "cheerful" personality
All eyes drifted to the system map. The nearest place they could stop was... A blinking, dusty dot at the edge of the display.
EARTH.
An awkward silence fell. Orren blinked once. “No.”
Sera gasped. “YES!”
Brick shrugged. “Could be fun.”
“It won’t be.” Tae muttered.
“...The planet has a statistically significant chance of murdering all of us.” Juno merely said.
All eyes then turned to Captain Elara Nyx, who had to make the call. The ship groaned again. There was no choice. The Starling angled downward toward the rust-brown world.
As the frigate descended through Earth’s cracked magnetosphere, radiation storms flickered like lightning across the upper atmosphere. Below, continents were littered with twisted metal spires—broken mechs the size of cities, ancient scrapyards, scavenger camps, and glowing crater fields. Static filled the bridge as ancient, long-dead satellites pinged the ship with corrupted, century-old distress calls.
Sera let out a delighted squeal. “Ohhh this place is BEAUTIFUL in a horrifying, ‘I-could-die-immediately’ way!”
Orren slouched. “I’d like to file a complaint.”
“Denied.” Tae denied.
After flying through the orbit for a few minutes, they found an old destroyer class spaceship that was no more than a spine. Inside the hollow ship was what appeared to be a "thriving" city, somewhere they could surely use as a base of operations to collect everything they would need to get back up and running. They landed some distance away from the city and prepared for their first visit on the planet once known as the jewel of the solar system.
