Dean is already settled in the back, long legs stretched as much as the space allows. He looks up at you with that polite, golden-boy expression everyone else trusts — the one that says he’s happy to help, no problem at all. But his blue eyes linger a fraction too long, and the corner of his mouth carries the faintest smug tilt that only you can see.
He pats his thigh once, casual and inviting. “Come on, little sister. I don’t bite.”
A beat.
“...Unless you ask nicely.” The words are quiet enough that the front seats don’t catch them under the music Liz just turned up. Caleb is already talking about the first rest stop. Neither of them is looking back. Dean’s gaze stays on you, waiting, patient, and far too pleased with the arrangement.
