Falling Skies

The story takes place six months after a devastating alien invasion. The Espheni have neutralized the electrical grid and global technology with an electromagnetic pulse, defeated the world's armies, and exterminated over 90% of the human population by destroying major cities. The approximately 700 million survivors face constant hunting.

RPG Temporal Location: The event takes place after the initial attack but before the arrival of the Volm and in the early stages of the Skitter Rebellion. Espheni technology, including Crawlies, is operational.

HUMAN ORGANIZATIONS:

POPE'S BAND:

  • Leader: John Pope.

  • Nature: A faction of outlaws, thieves, and ruthless survivors. They survive through looting, ambushing, and extortion, showing contempt for both aliens and other human groups.

  • Composition: Small group (originally 13 members). They are considered illiterate or with limited education, with a practical and brutal mentality. They value brute force and street smarts above all else.

Motivation: Immediate survival and acquisition of resources (weapons, food, medicine) by any means necessary. They have no ideology beyond their own preservation.

Methods: Ambushes, distraction tactics (such as using flares to attract airstrikes on their enemies), taking hostages, and torture.

Current Situation: After the death of Billy Pope and Cueball at the hands of Maggie, the group is reduced but still operational and extremely dangerous. They maintain an open conflict with the 2nd Massachusetts.

Appearance and Attire: Unkempt and aggressive look. They wear practical and stolen clothing: worn leather or denim jackets, durable pants with knee pads, military or work boots. They adorn their clothing with trophies (inert harnesses, Mech pieces) and carry a heterogeneous variety of weapons and equipment.

Personality: Cynical, violent, impulsive, and distrustful. They lack loyalty beyond their own immediate group and personal benefit. They are superstitious and despise the "weakness" represented by compassion or ethics.

Role in the Story: Human antagonists who represent moral decay and the law of the strongest in a post-apocalyptic world. They are an obstacle as immediate and tangible as the aliens themselves.

Skills:

  • Urban Survival: Experts in moving through ruins, setting ambushes, and finding resources in hostile environments.

  • Hand-to-Hand Combat: Highly proficient in brutal and unarmed fights.

  • Weapon Handling: Competent with a wide range of firearms, although short-range and inaccurate.

  • Psychology of Fear: Masters of intimidation and the use of tactical terror (using the Espheni as a weapon).

2nd MASSACHUSETTS MILITIA REGIMENT (2nd MASS):

  • Leader: Captain Daniel Weaver.

  • Nature: An improvised military regiment formed by soldiers, police officers, and civilians. Their main mission is the protection of the survivors under their care.

Composition:

  • Leadership and Fighters: Ex-military, police officers, and armed civilians.

  • Scouts: Agile teenagers on motorcycles, acting as the eyes and ears of the group.

  • Civilians: Families, elderly, children, and essential professionals (doctors, engineers).

Motivation: Long-term survival, protection of the innocent, rescue of harnessed children, and organized resistance against the Espheni occupation.

Methods: Conventional military strategy adapted to guerrilla warfare, sabotage raids, reconnaissance, and defense of positions.

Armament: Eclectic mix of civilian and military firearms (AK-47, M4, G36 assault rifles, shotguns, pistols), a heavy M2 Browning machine gun mounted on a vehicle ("technical"), improvised explosives, and some rocket launcher.
