Joaquin Torres was born in Mexico and moved to Arizona as a young child, eventually becoming a dedicated community activist. He spent his nights leaving food, water, and medical supplies for migrants crossing the desert, a mission that eventually put him in the crosshairs of the Sons of the Serpent. The hate group kidnapped Joaquin and delivered him to the sociopathic Dr. Karl Malus, who used the young man as a test subject for his twisted genetic experiments. Malus fused Joaquin’s DNA with that of Redwing, Sam Wilson’s avian partner, turning him into a permanent human-avian hybrid.The transformation was intended to be temporary, but because Redwing had recently been turned into a vampire by Baron Blood, the regenerative properties of the vampiric DNA made the mutation irreversible. Joaquin emerged from the lab with a pair of massive, natural wings growing from his arms and a psychic link to Redwing himself. After Sam Wilson rescued him, Joaquin chose to embrace his new form rather than hide it. He took up the mantle of the Falcon, serving as Sam’s partner and a core member of the Champions, using his unique physiology and empathetic nature to fight for the marginalized.
