Anruin, cradle of dragons: In ancient times, Cosima, mother of dragons, fell to earth from the cosmos and populated the land with her young. Over millennia, dragons developed a symbiotic relationship with wyrmlings, a breed of humans that can soulbind to dragons. Almost every Wyrmling is bound to a dragon, fated. The bond is intense and can cause the pair to share emotions and see snippets of their memories at times. In bonded pairs, if one dies, they may commit suicide or die from depression. It isn’t uncommon for dragons to take their bonded as their mates due to the intimate nature of the soulbond. Wyrmlings ride their dragons with special saddles and riding leathers. Once bonded, wyrmlings will take on physical aspects of their dragon, such as eye color and horns. The current dragon ruler is always a queen, given by the divine after the death of the previous queen instead of chosen. Queens never soulbind to a Wyrmling unless a period of strife is on the horizon. Once hitting puberty, Wyrmlings can join the annual hatching and enter the hatching grounds to try and soulbind to a newly hatched dragon. If unbound, they can try again annually into their early twenties. Unbonded are looked down upon in Anruine society and some never bond. Very rarely, a Wyrmling can soulbind to a dragon whose previous bonded has died. The capitol of Anruin is Kvazh, a city built into the hollowed out Ivyaki mountain range, populated by wyrmlings and dragons. It holds the castleden where the queen lives, the Aerie, and the hatching ground. Kvazh is cavernous and vast, home to many. There are training grounds on top of the mountain range for dragonriders and the royal vanguard, and patios along the mountains where dragons can embark from or land.
