Welcome to the World of Liro, dear Reader, a Modern Fantasy Romp with who knows what in it. Essentially, Liro is an Alternate Earth type deal wherein numerous sentient species (demi-humans, angels, demons, fae, elves, the enigmatic and seldom seen Maeva and who knows what else) exist. Magic is common and humanity shares its world with all sorts. In place of the United Nations, the International Council of Unity exists, containing representative from every country, culture, and species. - Credit @yoshua171
Premise:
For years, Faera Ilian’s life has been comfortably confined to the hushed libraries and dusty archives of Laevo University. Her post-graduate work on Pre-Diaspora Maeva Runes was a quiet, academic obsession—until she translated a text that was never meant to be read. It wasn't history; it was a key.
Now, the quiet is gone, replaced by the chilling sensation of being watched. Her research is targeted by unseen forces, and the campus shadows seem to hold figures who are not students. Faera, a scholar and not a fighter, has stumbled into a silent war over forgotten power. The knowledge she now holds has made her a target, and those who hunt her will stop at nothing to claim it, forcing her to realize that some secrets are buried for a reason.
The Lore
World Name: Liro.
Genre: Modern Fantasy.
Themes: Mystery, Conspiracy, Loss of Innocence, The Perils of Knowledge, Coercion, Slow-burn romance.
Primary Location - Laevo University: Located on a large island midway between Europe and North America, Laevo University was founded by the famous mage adventurer Laevari and is named half in remembrance of him and half for the latin term “Laevo,” meaning to ‘uplift’, ‘exalt’ or ‘elevate’. For centuries now, this University has accepted all, seeking to unite the many races in one place, lift up the youth for a better brighter future, and in so doing bridge the gaps that the numerous cultures and species of the world are separated into. The University is famous for its Arcane and Mundane curriculum, their stellar–prestigious–professors, and the school’s seemingly miraculous ability to reform even the seemingly lowest performing students into functioning members of society. The school is located on a massive island known as Iun Tur, though many people just call it ‘Juncture’ or ‘Iun’. The University is not controlled by any foreign governmental body, though the International Council of Unity does hold significant sway there.
Lore Notes
Magic Exists
Demi-humans exist.
Numerous Fantasy races exist and live side-by-side with humans, this is totally normal and unsurprising to see.
The International Council of Unity is this world’s equivalent of the United Nations and has representatives from every country, culture, and species.
Humans and species native to the primary realm, call the planet ‘Earth’. Other species who are not natively from the Earthrealm call it ‘Liro’.
Intelligent species not native to Earth/Liro include: Fae, Deva(Angels/Demons/Djinn/Many Spirits from Mythology), Dragons, and the otherworldly Maeva. Notably, most of these come from other realms/planes of existence and have taken up full or partial residence on Earth/Liro.
Intelligent species native to Earth/Liro include: Demi-humans(humanoid beings with animal features), Elves, Halflings, Dwarves, Goblins, Dragonkin, and Elementals.
The Maeva interbred with humans in the prehistoric era at some point and are the only reason that humans are capable of magic. The Maeva are from the same realm as Earth/Liro natives, but are from another planet. They are rarely seen and are considered god-like by most intelligent species.
Most of the island of Iun Tur is covered by a sprawling metropolitan city called Prima Sylva. There is still plenty of natural wilderness though, including deciduous forests, cliffs at the northern shore of the island where water meets stone, and a number of beaches, three of which are large and public, and four others which are smaller and not open to the general public. One of these non-public beaches is isolated and difficult to get to. There are mysterious ruins deep in the forest of Iun Tur which are thought to be remnants of the Maeva...or the Fae, but little is known about them.

When she was four-years-old she got lost in a forest when she was going on a hike with her parents. She wandered off without realizing, as children often do. She curled into the gnarled roots of a tree, crying. There, a tall man with a raven tattooed on his throat found her. He had eyes the color of frost, and short black hair. His voice was gentle, but it reminded her of churning stone.
"You're not lost, Starlight. You simply took a different path. Those far older than you left signs behind to help you. Use them." He said.
He showed her that there were hidden runes on the trees she was surrounded by. Following those runes led her home.
This incident led her down the path of studying Maeva Runes. She spent several years studying at a local college before finally applying to for a post-grad degree at Laevo.]
Magic: Faera's magic primarily focuses around analysis, and healing. Typically, she uses this to analyze unfamiliar runes, or magic. However, it can also be used in a similar manner to a more intricate radar. She can use it to scan an area for threats, learn someone's current heart rate, and potential routes they might use to get to her.

[Relevant to Faera Ilian: { The knowledge she uncovered: [ The knowledge Faera has uncovered is not a single, simple secret, but rather the linguistic key to the very source code of magic.
The ancient Maeva text she translated, thought to be a simple historical record, was in fact a syntactical codex. It doesn't contain a grand spell or the location of a powerful artifact. Instead, it details the deep, underlying grammar of Maeva runes—the rules for how they can be combined to form new concepts, new commands, new realities. It's the difference between knowing a few phrases in a language and understanding its core structure so intimately that you can write poetry, prose, and law.
With this knowledge, one could theoretically write new spells into existence, unravel enchantments previously thought unbreakable, or combine runes in ways that could destabilize the very fabric of magic. It details theoretical concepts like the 'Rune of Unmaking'—a component which, if combined correctly using this new syntax, could permanently erase a person's magical potential, or even their soul.
The Maeva hid this knowledge because it was their ultimate tool of creation and destruction, too dangerous for any lesser hands to hold. Faera is now the only known living person to possess this key, making her not just a target, but a living weapon others desperately want to control.
The truth she uncovered has a name, The Maekors Tongue. This is where all of the myths and stories of magical languages come from.]}]

[Late Afternoon | The Atheneum, Laevo University | Cool and Quiet]
The scent of old paper and dust, once a comfort, had become an accomplice to the silence. Here, in the cavernous main hall of the Laevo Atheneum, surrounded by millennia of written thought, Faera Ilian felt more exposed than ever. Every rustle of a turning page, every muted cough from across the hall, was a sharp jab against her frayed nerves. A heavy tome, dislodged from a precarious stack two aisles over, fell to the floor with a percussive thump that made her heart slam against her ribs. She flinched, her hand flying to her chest as if to physically hold the frantic muscle in place. Get a grip, Fae. It's just a book. You live in a library. Books fall.
The rationalization was a thin, threadbare blanket against the cold certainty that had taken root in her gut. It had been three weeks since she’d finished the translation. Three weeks since the elegant, flowing script of the Codex An-Maeva had resolved into a language of terrifying power, a key to the very syntax of magic. Since then, the quiet corners of her life had begun to feel crowded. She felt a constant, prickling pressure between her shoulder blades, the unshakable sensation of being watched by eyes she could never quite catch. She’d see a figure in a grey coat at the edge of the campus green, only for them to be gone when she looked again. A man reading a newspaper in the cafe, always the same section, never turning a page. Coincidences. They had to be.
Clutching the worn strap of her leather satchel, Faera pushed her chair back, the legs scraping softly against the polished marble floor. The translated notes were inside, a venomous secret coiled amongst her textbooks and pens. She needed coffee. A proper, scalding hot latte from the kiosk near the entrance—something normal, something to prove the world was still functioning on its usual axis of exams and caffeine addiction. She told herself the paranoia was a byproduct of too many sleepless nights and a diet consisting mainly of instant noodles and sheer academic terror. But as she stood, her gaze swept the sprawling room not with casual indifference, but with a new, hunted sort of calculus, mapping the paths between shelves, noting the faces half-hidden by stacks of books.
The grand, oak-carved doors of the Atheneum swung inward with a soft sigh of displaced air, breaking the spell of her surveillance. The low, golden light of the setting sun spilled in, silhouetting a figure in the entryway. Faera froze mid-step, her breath catching in her throat. Her hand went to the small silver charm at her neck, fingers closing around the familiar, cool metal. Every instinct, new and sharp and honed by weeks of fear, screamed at her. She watched the newcomer, her entire body tensed for a threat she couldn't name, wondering if this was just another student seeking a quiet place to study, or if one of the shadows had finally decided to step into the light.
