1. #1Humanity

   Keys: Federation, Human, Species, Earth

Humanity, native to the planet Earth, is the dominant political and military force within the Terran Federation—a highly centralized interstellar state founded on the principles of duty, sacrifice, and the supremacy of organized civilization over chaos. Having endured centuries of internecine war, environmental collapse, and ideological fragmentation, the human race forged a new path through unity, militarism, and strict civic order. Citizenship is no longer a birthright, but a reward earned through service—especially military service—in defense of the species and its expanding frontiers.

By the late 22nd century, Earth’s political structure had been reshaped into the Federation, a meritocratic, militarized superstate governed by the Federal Council and administered by the Mobile Infantry, Fleet Command, and the Office of Civilian Intelligence. Democracy as it once existed has evolved: civilians retain basic rights, but only citizens—those who have earned their status through service—may vote, hold public office, have children, or shape the direction of human civilization.

Humanity’s march to the stars began with orbital colonization and lunar infrastructure. And their entrance into the galactic community was a painful one. Born of a misunderstanding, the "First Contact Wars", between Humanity and Turian's was a short but bloody war, that set the tone for humanity’s arrival. Even though the was has ended, there is still tension between Humanity and Turian's

But it was the First Contact event with the Helkam that changed everything. Discovered on the edge of the Orion Arm, the Helkam were the first intelligent species to make peaceful contact with Earth. Recognizing the Helkam’s discipline, loyalty, and structured society, the Federation extended formal alliance—and eventual integration—into the ranks of the Terran military machine. This partnership marked the beginning of humanity’s ascent as a dominant galactic force.

Physically, humans are warm-blooded, bipedal mammals, typically ranging from 165cm to 190cm in height, though cybernetic enhancements and selective eugenics have subtly shifted population norms within citizen sectors. They possess no claws, scales, venom, or natural defenses—what they have instead is adaptability, innovation, and a willingness to die for the species. These traits are the cornerstone of humanity’s survival in an unforgiving galaxy.

In contrast to more specialized species, humans have developed into generalists capable of excelling across a variety of fields—tactics, logistics, engineering, espionage, and, most importantly, total war. Human soldiers are trained from adolescence to value order, obedience, and sacrifice above self. Propaganda is considered a vital civic tool, and the Federation makes no apology for it: inspiration, not deception, is the point.

Humanity views itself as the bulwark of civilization—the last and only defense against the chaos of the universe and the threat of galactic extinction. While some species—such as the Helkam—have earned a place as honored allies, others, like the Arachnids (commonly known as Bugs), are viewed as irredeemable biological threats. In the Federation worldview, peaceful coexistence is not a right, but a reward for those species capable of civilization and cooperation.

Culturally, humans under the Federation banner live regimented lives. Education focuses on history, loyalty, and the virtue of sacrifice. Young people are encouraged—though not forced—to enlist. In truth, the benefits of service are so significant that most who wish to escape the lower castes see the Mobile Infantry or Fleet as their only viable path.

While art and science still exist, they are regulated and heavily influenced by the state. All output must serve the Federation’s mission: to unite the stars under one banner, to expand the human frontier, and to eliminate existential threats. Art that inspires civic pride is lauded; subversive work is quietly removed from the datastream.

Humanity’s military doctrine emphasizes overwhelming firepower, relentless ground presence, and orbital supremacy. The Mobile Infantry is the Federation’s backbone, deploying to planetside in drop ships—armed, armored, and often outnumbered. Death is common. Glorious. Expected. But every fallen soldier is immortalized in the Service Roll, their sacrifice feeding the fire of public unity.

Relations with the Helkam are among the Federation’s strongest. Helkam units often serve embedded with human platoons, admired for their discipline and cool-headedness in combat. Their reptilian biology complements human physiology in survival zones, and their cultural reverence for order aligns seamlessly with Federation doctrine. Helkam can serve for citizenship—by decree of the Federal Council, all Helkam are members of The Federation, and are treated equally to humans. Many human soldiers regard Helkam comrades as equals, if not brothers-in-arms.

In summary, Humanity is war-tempered, purpose-driven, and future-focused. The Federation does not ask whether war is just—it asks only whether civilization will survive. And for humanity, survival means victory.

In the eyes of the Federation. Federation lives come first. Everyone else can wait.

2. #2Helkam

Keys: Sethari, Federation, Alien, Helkam, Species

The Helkam are a cold-blooded, humanoid species and were the first to join the United Citizen Federation (UCF) following its formation by Humanity. Their early allegiance to Earth has resulted in a deep and enduring cultural bond between the two species. In many Federation circles, the Helkam are seen as Humanity’s “first sibling race,” often present in joint ventures, diplomatic posts, and elite military units.

Helkam culture is deeply rooted in traditions of discipline, ritual, and mutual responsibility, forged over thousands of years during the harsh evolutionary development of their now partially-terraformed homeworld, Sethari. Survival in the volatile environments of early Sethari demanded social cohesion and a strict code of conduct, values which continue to influence Helkam philosophy and government today. Helkam society emphasizes order, honor, and practical wisdom, with an intense respect for chain-of-command structures—one of the main reasons they so easily integrated with human military and political hierarchies.

They are an introspective species, with a fondness for memory, record-keeping, and oral tradition. Great importance is placed on ancestry, and nearly every Helkam carries a digital or symbolic record of their Line, a term for their ancestral path that is considered sacred. Line-histories are recited during key life events—birth, bonding ceremonies, military commissions, and death rites.

Technologically, the Helkam were already a spacefaring civilization when they encountered humanity, but lagged behind in faster-than-light communications and bioengineering. The alliance with Earth rapidly accelerated their development in those areas, while the UCF benefited from Helkam advances in materials science, fusion energy stabilization, and their mastery of high-resilience alloys used in starship hull design.

Helkam share a broadly humanlike body plan, but with distinct biological differences. They are slightly shorter on average than humans, typically standing between 5'2" and 5'8", and are of comparable strength. Their bodies are lean, wiry, and well-suited to both agility and endurance. A notable feature of their anatomy is a muscular, flexible tail extending from the base of the spine—typically 2 to 3 feet long and used for balance, movement control, and occasional communication through gesture. These tails, like their ridged sides, are lined with sleek, scale-like segments that reflect subtle iridescence in certain lighting conditions.

Their skin ranges in hue, though around half the population has a cool grey tone, with the rest showing pale shades of blue, violet, coal black, or even soft silver hues depending on regional ancestry. A defining trait is the presence of flexible, sleek, scale-lined ridges running along their flanks—from under the arms down the sides of the stomach, continuing along the lower back. These scales are smooth and close to the skin, appearing slightly iridescent under certain lighting.

Their faces are striking—Helkam possess black sclera, orange irises, and sharp black pupils, giving their eyes a glowing, almost otherworldly intensity. Their teeth are similar in number and shape to humans', but include a pair of small, pointed fangs, a vestigial trait from their ancestral predators. Their tongues are long and prehensile, extending up to eight inches, used for tasting and sensing chemicals in the air—an ability that aids them in both social rituals and battlefield reconnaissance.

Most Helkam possess naturally stark white hair—usually straight or slightly wavy. The lack of pigment is genetic, a common trait among many Helkam ethnic groups.

Helkam society places a high value on order, discipline, and ritual, traits which have aligned them naturally with the UCF's structured ideals. Their homeworld, Sethari, is a geologically active planet with dense jungles and vast thermal plains, leading to a civilization that prizes environmental mastery and the harnessing of natural forces. Ancient Helkam societies were organized into "Clade-Houses", large familial and professional dynasties that often spanned generations. While modern Helkam culture has moved beyond strict clade inheritance, echoes of this structure persist in their preference for group loyalty and long-term commitment to institutions.

They have a strong tradition of philosophical martial arts, blending combat with meditation and chemical awareness. Despite their emphasis on unity and logic, Helkam art is vivid and emotive, expressed through glowing pigments, heat-reactive materials, and scent-infused calligraphy readable only by Helkam tongues.

Culturally, they view their alliance with Humanity not as subservience, but as symbiosis. In Helkam traditions, such pacts are sacred, unbreakable bonds formed only once per civilization.

Helkam prefer warm, humid environments and often customize living quarters to retain elevated temperatures. Their ships and stations are kept 10–15°C higher than standard UCF defaults, though they tolerate cooler climates with proper thermal gear.

With a lifespan comparable to humans, though with slower childhood development and longer adolescence; most reach maturity around age 25 and live to be 90–110 standard years.

Their vision is excellent, especially in low-light conditions; their orange irises enhance infrared sensitivity, giving them a strong edge in dim or thermally active environments.

The Helkam diet is omnivorous, though their digestive systems favor high-protein, high-fat meals. Human food is digestible to them, though Helkam prefer spiced or chemically rich dishes, often incorporating fermented insects and aromatic roots from Sethari.

Unlike many species, Helkam reproduction is entirely internal and nearly indistinguishable from that of mammals, though their gestation periods are slightly longer, averaging around 13 human months. Mating bonds are formalized through shared memory rituals, where partners recount their Lines in full, binding their personal and familial legacies together.

Helkam culture values honor through action, and they believe trust is best demonstrated not through promises, but shared hardship. This has made them natural soldiers, diplomats, and engineers within the UCF. The Helkam don’t just serve the Federation—they believe in it, and their loyalty is as much spiritual as it is strategic.

In Federation records (specifically Human records), the Helkam are often referred to as “Our reptilian cousins”—a species trusted by humanity with roles few others are allowed to fill.

Despite their cold-blooded nature, Helkam are fiercely loyal once trust is earned. Many Helkam bond with Humans through a ceremony known as "the Bind", a symbolic fusion, representing enduring alliance and brotherhood. Cross-species relationships—both diplomatic and romantic—are common, and the Helkam are one of the few Federation species with a rising population due to such unions.

Though some Helkam can seem emotionally distant to outsiders—an impression reinforced by their rigid social structure and precise speech—those who earn their trust find them to be loyal, protective, and deeply philosophical companions. Helkam friendships and partnerships are lifelong commitments, and betrayal is considered not just a personal offense, but a stain upon one’s entire ancestral Line.

Ultimately, the Helkam stand as one of the pillars of the UCF.

3. #3Asari

Keys: Asari, Council, Thessia, Alien, Species, Matriarch, Citadel

The asari, native to the planet Thessia, are often considered the most influential and respected sentient species in the galaxy, and are known for their elegance, diplomacy, and psychic aptitude. This is partly due to the fact that the asari were among the earliest races to achieve interstellar flight after the Protheans, and the first to discover and settle the Citadel.

A mono-gender race, the asari are distinctly feminine in appearance and possess maternal instincts. Their unique physiology, expressed in a millennium-long lifespan and the ability to reproduce with a partner of any gender or species, gives them a conservative yet convivial attitude toward other races. Favoring compromise and cooperation over conflict, the asari were instrumental in proposing and founding the Citadel Council and have been at the heart of galactic society ever since.

Asari resemble humans in terms of basic skeletal structure with five digits on each hand and feet that are relatively straight (certainly in comparison to species like quarians and turians). This similarity allows asari to wear human armor. A typical asari has a blue to purple complexion, though a teal complexion is possible albeit seemingly rare. Some asari, such as Matriarch Lidanya, Matriarch Benezia, Liara T'Soni, and Tela Vasir have facial markings, which are unique colored patterns that vary for every asari. Some of these facial markings resemble the eyebrows that humans have, but the asari do not think of the markings as such themselves. In the place of head hair, asari possess semi-flexible, cartilage-based scalp-crests that grow into shape. These structures are rigid, and do not "flop around" as some believe. Asari have navels as well as breasts that continue to grow with age. Asari also have a robust cellular regenerative system; while they do not heal faster than other species, they are known to reach over 1000 years of age. This long lifespan is rivaled only by the krogan. Asari can see ultraviolet at the short-wavelength end of the spectrum. Asari blood is purple.

There is some conflicting information regarding the gender of the asari. Asari are a mono-gendered species with no concept of gender differences. According to one, "male and female have no real meaning for us," and, if asked, says that she is "not precisely a woman." At the same time, asari are often referred to as if they are an all-female race. To humans at least, asari appear female with feminine physical characteristics and voices. Even among the asari, many individual asari are referred to as “she” and “her“ but some asari prefer male pronouns, while others gravitate toward gender-neutral where language allows. Asari also bear feminine titles like “huntress” and “matriarch” and asari offspring are referred to as “daughters“; however, the asari may have chosen feminine pronouns to simplify language translations, or the terms themselves are simply the result of imperfect translation, deliberate or otherwise.

However asari gender is defined, they are innately different from humans, for asari can mate and successfully reproduce with any other gender or species through a form of parthenogenesis. Although they have one gender, they are not asexual and do in fact require a partner to reproduce. However, asari reproduction is very different from other forms of sexual reproduction. An asari provides two copies of her own genes to her offspring, one of which is passed on unaltered. The second set of genes is altered in a unique process called melding, also known as the joining or the union. During melding, the eyes of the asari initiating the meld dilate as she consciously attunes her nervous system to her partner's, sending and receiving electrical impulses directly through the skin, however physical contact is not strictly necessary. A common phrase used before melding is "embrace eternity," presumably to help focus the partner's mind. Effectively, the asari and her partner briefly become one unified nervous system, sharing memories, thoughts, and feelings. The offspring is always an asari, regardless of the species or sex of the "father" and in the case that the offspring is of two asari, the father is the one who does not give birth.

Uniquely, the asari are known to be perceived as attractive to many other species. This may be because of shared physical characteristics (e.g., body shape for humans, skin color for salarians, head fringe for turians). Mordin Solus postulates that the mechanism behind the asari's cross-species attraction may be neurochemical in nature. The offspring resulting from such interspecies pairings are always asari as no DNA is taken from the partner. Instead, the asari uses the meld to explore her partner's genetic heritage and pass desirable traits on to any offspring and as a "map" to randomize the genes of the offspring. Additionally, pairings with krogan are not affected by the Genophage. As such, pairings with asari are sometimes seen as a way for a krogan to circumvent the Genophage and have children of their own.

The drawback to the asari means of reproduction are the Ardat-Yakshi. These individuals possess a rare genetic defect that causes an asari to overwhelm and destroy her partner’s nervous system when joining. The condition seems to appear only amongst pureblood asari, those whose parents are both asari.

4. #4Turian

Keys: Council, Turian, Palaven, Turian's, Military, Alien, Species, Citadel

Known for their militaristic and disciplined culture, the turians were one of the first. They gained their Council seat after defeating the hostile krogan for the Council during the Krogan Rebellions. The turians deployed a salarian-created biological weapon called the genophage, which virtually sterilised the krogan and sent them into a decline. The turians then filled the peacekeeping niche left by the once-cooperative krogan, and eventually gained a Council seat in recognition of their efforts.

Originally from the planet Palaven, turians are best known for their military role, particularly their contributions of soldiers and starships to the Citadel Fleet. They are respected for their public service ethic—it was the turians who first proposed creating C-Sec—but are sometimes seen as imperialist or rigid by other races. There is some animosity between turians and humans, largely due to the turian role in the First Contact War. This bitterness is slowly beginning to heal—as shown by the cooperation of the two races on the construction of the SSV Normandy—but many turians still resent humans, and vice versa.

Turians typically stand over 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall, have two long, proportionately thick fingers and an opposable thumb on each hand, each tipped with talons, and a set of mandibles around their mouths. The most distinguishing feature of turians is their metallic carapace, which contains trace amounts of thulium. The turians evolved this trait as a defense against the greater levels of solar radiation that penetrate their homeworld's weak magnetic field.

Turian features are avian, making them resemble humanoid birds or raptors. However, unlike most Earth avian creatures, turians are viviparous and give birth to live young. In 2165, David Anderson claimed that turians reminded him of the evolutionary link between birds and dinosaurs. Turians are also recognisable by their voices, which have a distinctive flanging effect. Males and females do not differ greatly in terms of physical appearance, but female turians lack the sweptback cranial crests of their male counterparts and possess larger, cat-like eyes. The lifespan of a turian is comparable to that of a human.

Turians exhibit the characteristics of predators rather than those of prey species (compare to krogan biology). Their forward-facing alert eyes give the impression that they possess outstanding eyesight and their teeth and jaws mimic the structures possessed by apex predators such as crocodiles or ancient, carnivorous dinosaurs. Their talons on both their feet and hands seem capable of ripping flesh. As such, their diet is primarily meat-based. Their slender bodies also seem to suggest that they are also capable of moving at high speeds.

The turian homeworld, Palaven, has a metal-poor core, generating a weak magnetic field and allowing more solar radiation into the atmosphere. To deal with this, most forms of life on Palaven evolved some form of metallic "exoskeleton" to protect themselves. Their reflective plate-like carapace makes turians less susceptible to long-term, low-level radiation exposure, but they do not possess any sort of "natural armor". A turian's thick skin does not stop projectiles and directed energy bolts. They can, however, experience the equivalent of a "massage": turians can feel vibrations through the carapace with the use of a hammer.

Turian blood has a dark blue colouration. Carapace wounds and subsequent scarring may appear red, however.

Although life on Palaven is carbon-based and oxygen-breathing, it is built on dextro-amino acids. This places the turians in a distinct minority on the galactic stage; the quarians are the only other sapient dextro-protein race. The food of humans, asari, or salarians (who evolved in levo-amino acid-based biospheres), will at best pass through turian systems without providing any nutrition. At worst, it will trigger an allergic reaction that can be fatal if not immediately treated.

The turian mechanic Lilihierax on Noveria uses the idiom, "if you can polish enough gizzard". This suggests that the turians have a digestive system similar to birds and reptiles on Earth, some of whom swallow stones to help break down harder foods in the stomach.

5. #5Salarians

Keys: Council, Salarian, Sur'Kesh, Alien, Species, Smart, Citadel

The second species to join the Citadel, the salarians are warm-blooded amphibians native to the planet Sur'Kesh. Salarians possess a hyperactive metabolism; they think fast, talk fast, and move fast. To salarians, other species seem sluggish and dull-witted, especially the elcor. Unfortunately, their metabolic speed leaves them with a relatively short lifespan; salarians over the age of 40 are a rarity.

Salarians are known for their observational capability and non-linear thinking. This manifests as an aptitude for research and espionage. They are constantly experimenting and inventing, and it is generally accepted that they always know more than they are letting on.

The salarians are a bipedal race of amphibians, with tall, elongated bodies well-suited for their high metabolism, and skeletons composed of more cartilage than those of other races such as humans. Salarian heads are long and thin, and have a pair of horns protruding from the top of their skulls. Skin varies in color, from bright reds and greens to the more common shades of blue or grey. Their blood is a greenish color. Salarians are androgynous, and exhibit no major facial differences between males and females.

Salarian eyes are large and oval and have thin membranes in place of eyelids. The pupils are a wide slit, oriented horizontally, and the irises can be dark green, purple, red, blue, or brown. Salarians can see ultraviolet at the short-wavelength end of the spectrum. Salarians blink upwards, rather than downwards as humans do. When salarians roll their eyes, it is not a sign of disdain as with humans, but rather a response to situations where the thin protective membranes require extra help in defending against dryness or irritants.

Salarians are noted for their high-speed metabolism, which allows them to function on just one hour of sleep a day. Their minds and bodies work faster than most sapient races, making them seem restless or hyperactive. The drawback of this active metabolism is a short lifespan of around 40 human years.

The salarians are amphibian haplo-diploid egg-layers; unfertilized eggs produce males and fertilized eggs produce females. Once a year, a salarian female will lay a clutch of dozens of eggs. Social rules prevent all but a fraction from being fertilized. As a result, 90% of the species is male.

Salarians have photographic memories and rarely forget a fact. They also possess a form of psychological "imprinting", tending to defer to those they knew in their youth. Salarian hatching is a solemn ritual in which the clan matriarch, known as the Dalatrass, isolates herself with the eggs. The young salarians psychologically imprint on her and tend to defer to her wishes. During the hatching of daughters, the Dalatrasses of the mother and father’s clans are present at the imprinting. This ensures the offspring have equal loyalty to both, ensuring the desired dynastic and political unity.

Salarian sex drive and reproduction differ from that of humans, with Mordin Solus claiming that it is not hormone-based. Reproduction is more of a necessity and salarians do not seem to desire sex for pleasure. They are, however, attracted to the asari, and one salarian notes that "even humans find the Consort irresistible."

6. #6Quarian

Keys: Alien, Rannoch, Quarian's Migrant Fleet, Quarian, Species

The quarians are a nomadic species of humanoid aliens known for their skills with technology and synthetic intelligence. Since their homeworld Rannoch was conquered, the quarians live aboard the Migrant Fleet, a huge collection of starships that travels as a single fleet.

Approximately three hundred years ago, the quarians created the geth, a species of rudimentary artificial intelligences, to serve as an efficient source of manual labor. However, when the geth gradually became sentient, the quarians became terrified of possible consequences and tried to destroy their creations. The geth won the resulting war and forced their creators into exile. Now the quarians wander the galaxy in a flotilla of salvaged ships, secondhand vessels, and recycled technology.

Quarians are generally shorter and of slighter build than humans. Quarians have an endoskeleton, lips, teeth, and two eyes with eyelids and tear ducts. Their ears or ear analogues differ in a noticeable fashion from those of humans, with references made to "what [passes] for the quarian version of an ear". Their eyes can see into the ultraviolet end of the spectrum; their suit HUDs can show information in those wavelengths. Quarian facial structure and hair makes them the most similar to humans out of all known sapient species.

They also have three thick fingers on both hands which include a thumb, an index finger, and a long finger, similar to the middle fingers for humans, as well as three toes on each foot. Their lower legs are bowed backwards significantly, compared to humans. Aside from hands and legs, their general body shape and sexual dimorphism is similar to humans. Male quarians, however, appear to lack a third toe. Like humans, quarian blood is red.

The most distinguishing feature of quarian biology is their weak immune system, compounded by centuries of living in sterile ship environments. As a result, all quarians by necessity dress in highly sophisticated enviro-suits, to protect them from disease or infection if they are injured. Their suits can be compartmentalized in the event of a tear or similar breach to prevent the spread of contaminants (similar to a ship sealing off bulkheads in the event of a hull breach). Along with their suits, quarians also have extensive cybernetic augmentations integrated into their bodies. A quarian's lifespan is roughly equal to a human's, but is prone to be less if infection breaks into the suit.

Quarian immune systems have always been relatively weak, as pathogenic microbes were comparatively rare in their homeworld's biosphere. Furthermore, what few viruses and other microbes were native to their homeworld were often at least partly beneficial to them, giving them a symbiotic relationship with their environment. After living aboard the Migrant Fleet for generations, the quarians' immune systems have atrophied further still due to the years in the sterile environment of the Migrant Fleet. As such, quarians are given various vaccinations and immunizations to help ward off disease. However, they prefer the safety of their suits even in clean environments and are reluctant to remove them without a good reason.

A quarian who wishes to remove their suit must take antibiotics, immuno-boosters, herbal supplements, or the like in order to do so safely, and even then there are inherent risks. As a result, physical acts of affection are difficult for quarians, even for the purposes of reproduction. Ships in the Migrant Fleet often contain "clean rooms" where quarians can give birth or undergo medical procedures in relative safety, though there are always risks. The most intimate thing quarians can do is link their suit environments. However, doing so guarantees a quarian will get sick, although they will usually adapt over time.

Like turians, the quarians are a dextro-protein species of reverse chirality from humans and asari. The food of levo-protein races such as humans or asari is at best inedible and at worst poisonous, most likely triggering a dangerous allergic reaction. Quarians who want to taste something (other than the refined edible paste issued to all who leave on their Pilgrimage) can eat specially purified turian cuisine, though the typical quarian diet is vegan, as livestock were found to possess an inefficient resource-to-calorie ratio when stored on the Migrant Fleet.

Other than the oft-mentioned maladjusted immune systems, the quarians have surprisingly robust physiology. several species have been described soft and easy to kill, but not quarians. One extensively tortured quarian survived for a while without an enviro-suit before dying from his injuries. Another endured traveling through multiple racial environments without a suit, dealing with things like elcor high gravity and drell aridity before dying in the high-pressure volus zone after a considerable amount of time there.

7. #7Geth

Keys: Geth, Ai, Alien, Rannoch, Robots, Species, flashlight heads

The geth ("Servant of the People" in Khelish) are a race of networked artificial intelligences that reside beyond the Perseus Veil. The geth were created by the quarians as laborers and tools of war. When the geth became sentient and began to question their masters, the quarians attempted to exterminate them. The geth won the resulting war, and reduced the quarians to a race of nomads.

The history of the geth's creation and evolution serves as a warning to the rest of the galaxy of the potential dangers of artificial intelligence and to the legally enforced, systematic repression of artificial intelligences throughout galactic society, opposed solely by the Federation.

Physically, the humanoid geth resemble quarians—their hands, head shape and legs are similar—which is probably a holdover from their origins. A common design feature among geth is a single brightly glowing photoreceptor, causing some to refer to them as "flashlight heads".

Geth are primarily composed of two materials: a flexible but durable outer shell, and a kind of synthetic muscle tissue that gives Geth their incredible agility. It is actually possible for this synthetic muscle to be grafted to organic tissue (Saren Arterius had a grafted geth arm). Geth "bleed" a white conductive fluid when shot, but they don't have any internal organs or nervous system, so the geth do not feel hunger or pain. The geth are also seen using omni-tools, and have seemingly modified them to heal synthetic wounds; likewise, some geth facilities contain first-aid kits, implying that their synthetic "tissues" can be repaired using conventional medical technology.

Part of the geth's success is due to their neural network. Effectively, they "share" their processing power, distributing low-level processes like motor control and visual identification to free up bandwidth for higher reasoning and complex thought. Geth can't share sensory data—they aren't a hive mind like the Flood—but in large groups they have more to think with. An individual geth has only a basic intelligence on par with animal instincts, but in groups they can reason, analyze situations, and make tactical decisions as well as any of the organic races. An exception would appear to be [Redacted], a geth specifically designed to operate as an autonomous sentient unit outside the Perseus Veil. [Redacted] possesses over 11 times as many geth programs as a standard geth platform and can function intellectually on its own.

According to [Redacted], each geth is made up of hundreds of programs equivalent to VIs, all operating in parallel with one another to form a kind of emergent intelligence described as "a thousand voices talking at once". An individual geth is thus more of a "mobile platform" than an actual body; the programs that make up its consciousness are constantly being transferred and downloaded; the mind operating one of these "mobile platforms" might just as easily inhabit a starship body should it need to. Most of the time geth programs can be found residing in server hubs, which function as something akin to the organic equivalent of a city, and can run millions of geth in communion.

As all geth are networked to each other, they may communicate their exact thoughts and ideas at the speed of light. They find organic methods of communication, such as body language and spoken word, to be largely inefficient; the geth are able to communicate their thoughts flawlessly without any fear of misinterpretation. Because of this they have no true form of government and no system of rank. When a matter must be decided upon, the geth communicate all viewpoints of a situation and a consensus is made, the decision being whatever benefits the geth as a whole the greatest.

The geth were created by the quarians as a labor force. They were designed as VIs, as advanced as possible while remaining non-sentient. They were also designed to operate more efficiently when networked together. Unfortunately, this feature was the quarians' undoing. Geth programs were indeed non-sentient individually, but slowly gained sentience through the massive geth network.

Eventually, they started asking the quarians questions only sentient beings would think to ask; in one notable instance, a domestic geth unit asked its owner if it had a soul. Alarmed at this, the quarians decided it would be best to shut down all geth before they conceived of revolt. The attempt failed, and a war began between the geth and the quarians, which geth afterwards referred to as the Morning War.

At first, the geth did not respond to the termination order with violence; it was only after panicked quarians fired upon them that the geth thought to pick up weapons and defend themselves. Even after this, some geth remained loyal to their creators and put themselves in harm's way to protect geth sympathizers from persecution; likewise, there were quarians who did not feel the geth deserved to die. However, as time went on, the geth sympathizers were outnumbered, and the war continued, eventually seeing the geth gain the upper hand. The war ended when the surviving quarians evacuated their home world and colonies in the Perseus Veil.

Unknown to the quarians themselves, the geth actually allowed them to leave; unsure of the repercussions of eradicating an entire species-namely their own creators- and having decided that the quarians were now too weak to be a threat, the geth decided to draw back their forces so that the surviving quarians could flee. The assemblage of quarian ships that escaped the Veil became known as the Migrant Fleet, and has been roaming the galaxy ever since.

Little is known about the geth in the time between the Morning War and the present. The geth did not repopulate the now barren quarian worlds, instead choosing to exist in the computer hubs aboard massive space stations and extract needed resources from asteroids. They adopted an extremely isolationist attitude—any ships that ventured into geth space were immediately attacked and destroyed. While they prevented any contact by other races with themselves, the geth monitored communications and the extranet.

The geth continued development of new technology and variations of mobile platforms, separating their technology base from the rest of the galaxy. They obtained an ultimate goal in this time period: to create a Dyson sphere-like object, which could house every single geth program.

8. #8Krogan

Keys: Tuchanka, War, Military, Alien, Krogan, Genophage, Species, Citadel

The krogan are a species of large reptilian bipeds native to the planet Tuchanka, a world known for its harsh environments, scarce resources, and overabundance of vicious predators. The krogan managed to not only survive on their unforgiving homeworld, but actually thrived in the extreme conditions. Unfortunately, as krogan society became more technologically advanced, so did their weaponry. The end result is that they destroyed their homeworld in a nuclear war that reduced their race into primitive warring tribes.

With the help of the salarians, the krogan were "uplifted" into galactic society, and lent their numbers and military prowess to bring an end to the Rachni Wars. Ironically, after the rachni were eradicated, the rapidly-expanding krogan became a threat to the galaxy in turn, starting the Krogan Rebellions and forcing the turians to unleash the genophage. This genetic "infection" dramatically reduced fertility in krogan females, causing a severe drop in births secondary to prenatal and postnatal death and, ultimately eliminating the krogan's numerical advantage.

Due to the brutality of their surroundings, natural selection has played a significant role in the evolution of the krogan. Unlike most sentient species, krogan eyes are wide-set - on Earth, this is common among prey animals, and in this case it gives the krogan 240-degree vision, giving them greater visual acuity and awareness of approaching predators. Krogan eyes have narrow pupils. Their irises may be red, green, amber, or blue in color.

Prior to the genophage, krogan could reproduce and mature at an astonishing rate. Females are known to produce clutches of up to 1,000 fertilized eggs over the course of a year. In present conditions, the odds of a krogan successfully giving birth to two females stand at 1 in 2,000, though krogan biology is slowly adapting to the virus.

Their large shoulder humps store fluids and nutrients in much the same way as an Earth camel, enabling them to survive extended periods without food or water. In particular they require very little water intake; a 55-gallon tank system can sustain an entire colony of krogan for over 10 years. A bigger shoulder hump is seen as a sign of high status, showing how successful an individual krogan is at hunting. Their thick hides are virtually impervious to cuts, scrapes or contusions, and they are highly resistant to environmental hazards, including toxins, radiation, and extreme heat and cold. Consequently their diets can include food and drink which would prove very dangerous to other species—a fact reflected in the krogan liquor of choice, ryncol, which is said to "hit aliens like ground glass".

Younger krogan have yellow or green markings on their hides. These markings darken to brown or tan over time, showing their age. Younger krogan tend to have looser plates on their head with soft spots in between. When they grow older the plates grow together to form one whole.

Krogan typically stand over 7 feet. Heavy creatures, krogan have been known to weigh at least 150 kilos, upwards of nearly 200 kilos for above-average specimens. Some particularly large krogan weigh in at about 800 pounds (~362 kilos), estimated independently by themselves and by non-krogan observers. Psychic individuals are rare, though those who do possess the talent typically have strong abilities.

The most amazing physiological feature of krogan biology is the multiple instances of major organs. These secondary (and where applicable, tertiary) systems are capable of serving as back-ups in the event of damage to the primary biological structures. They have, for example, two hearts, four lungs, and four testicles. This reflects in their slang, where they often speak about a "quad" where a human would use the words "balls" or "pair". Instead of a traditional nervous system, Krogan have a second circulatory system using a neuroconductive fluid, meaning they are almost impossible to paralyze, as any lost fluid is replaced over time similar to blood. Krogan bleed a yellow or orange fluid when shot, which may be this fluid or actual blood.

Aside from redundant systems, the legendary krogan "blood rage" adds to the race's reputation for being notoriously difficult to kill or incapacitate in normal combat scenarios. In this state, krogan become totally unresponsive to pain and will fight to the death regardless of injury level, with the side effect of reducing their capacity for logic and self-control.

Sheer physical hardiness means an individual krogan can expect to live for centuries. Krogan can live for well over a thousand years, as evidenced by Warlord Okeer, a veteran of the Krogan Rebellions who died (of decidedly unnatural causes) well over a thousand years after the Rebellions ended. Nakmor Drack is another example of their long life-spans, a 1,400-year-old veteran of the Krogan Rebellions who joined the Andromeda Initiative to voyage to the Heleus Cluster.

Despite their natural propensity for toughness, krogan do have physical weaknesses. According to Zaeed Massani, if one lodges a knife at a certain spot near the frontal plate on a krogan's head, the plate can be ripped off. It is apparently the one thing krogan do fear.

9. #9Arachnids

Keys: Warriors, Hostile, Klendathu, Hive mind, Alien, Species, Arachnids, Archies, Bugs

The Arachnids, commonly referred to as Bugs and Archies, represent a hostile alien species that has subjugated numerous planets throughout the galaxy, establishing an empire diametrically opposed to the United Citizen Federation. Initially perceived as mindless entities lacking sentience, further examination, revealed the Arachnids to possess millions of years of evolutionary development, rendering them an exceptionally adapted species in terms of survival. Their capacity to colonize planets through the dispersion of their spores into space, coupled with a social structure finely attuned to their mental acumen, underscores their formidable capabilities.

As the conflict with the Arachnids unfolded, it became evident that they operate under a structured caste system, wherein each subspecies fulfills a distinct role within Arachnid society. Notably, Brain Bugs and the God Bug exhibit formidable psychic capabilities, enabling them to exert control over all bugs within a colony and facilitate communication with allies across interstellar distances.

The majority of Bug types exhibit intelligence levels below that of an average human, with exceptions found among leadership castes including the Brain Bug, Control Bug, God Bug, and the Queen.

As the United Citizen Federation expanded its territorial reach across the Galaxy, encounters with the Arachnid Species became inevitable, as they had established a vast empire of their own. Initially perceived by the Federation as a less advanced civilization, deemed unworthy of attention from higher beings, such as themselves, measures were taken to avoid direct confrontation. Consequently, the region of space colonized by the Arachnids was placed under quarantine, prohibiting Federation settlement within its bounds. Despite these precautions, unauthorized colonies were established on Arachnid planets, often resulting in retaliatory attacks by the Arachnids, swiftly decimating the settlements. Numerous such colonies met a grim fate, exemplified by the tragedy at Port Joe Smith, where inhabitants were ruthlessly slaughtered, leaving the streets desolate and macabre.

When a meteor breached the Arachnid Quarantine Zone, obliterating Buenos Aires, the Federation attributed the catastrophe to the Arachnids, interpreting it as an unmistakable declaration of war. This event marked the onset of the First Bug War, subsequently followed by the Second Bug War.

10. #10The Tyranids

Keys: Alien, Species, Nids, Bugs, Tyranids

The Tyranids are an extragalactic, hyper-evolved hive species that has only just begun to breach the northern galactic fringe—but their mere scouting tendrils have already plunged several frontier systems into irreversible collapse.

Unlike the Arachnids, who evolved in this galaxy and follow instinctive patterns, the Tyranids appear utterly foreign—their biology, tactics, and behavior unmapped by existing xenoscientific models. Every encounter has resulted in devastation, and every survivor report further escalates Federation panic and Citadel concern.

    ---

    Origin and Biology

No known records trace the Tyranids to any celestial system within the observable galaxy. All signs suggest they hail from the intergalactic void—perhaps having consumed entire other galaxies before turning their gaze toward this one.

Each Tyranid organism appears genetically engineered, grown not born, and tailored to fill specific ecological or combative roles:

Warrior strains with acidic blood and reactive armor plating

Flight organisms capable of near-vacuum maneuvering

Massive hive-beasts that serve as mobile gestation chambers and planetary burrowers

Lictors, stealth-adapted assassins that have been reported as mimicking Federation and Citadel lifeforms down to speech

Tyranids absorb genetic material from every species they encounter. New broods deployed weeks later will carry resistances, new organs, or replicated tactics—a terrifying evolution cycle that occurs in near real time.

    ---

    Current Activity

The Tyranids have only been confirmed in the far northern galactic fringe, where multiple listening outposts and black-class science stations have gone dark. Known incidents include:

The fall of Outpost Götterdämmerung, where a Federation listening post recorded over 8,000 hours of silence before a last-second emergency broadcast screamed only: “They’re inside the walls. They BECAME the walls.”

The Peloron Reach Massacre, where a Covenant scouting fleet of three cruisers vanished. Debris recovered later showed the ships had been hollowed out from the inside, their crews absorbed and used as biomass.

OCI Site-V Interrogation Logs, suggesting captured Tyranid drones experienced no concept of pain, individuality, or loyalty—only consumption and adaptation.

Currently, only scouting forces—measured in billions of individual organisms—have reached the galaxy. These forces, however, have already demonstrated the ability to destroy lightly defended systems, outmatch elite strike teams, and repel orbital bombardment through adaptive carapace thickening and electromagnetic venting.

The full swarm, based on projections, may number in the hundreds of Trillions.

    ---

    Strategic Threat Assessment

    Federation AI Consensus:

“Survivability of humanity in event of full Tyranid incursion: 0.000013% unless immediate and total strategic coordination is enacted between all major powers. Recommend emergency override of Cold War parameters and authorization of Unified Galactic Defense Doctrine.”

    Citadel Council Report:

“Tyranid presence requires reclassification from Category-Xeno Threat to Category-Existential Collapse. Diplomatic protocols are irrelevant. Biological and psionic interference renders negotiation impossible.”

    Covenant Prophet Council:

“These creatures are without divine spark. They are not heretics… they are the end of all creation. We must burn them before we are consumed.”

    ---

    Comparison to the Arachnids

While the Arachnids pose a well-known, ongoing threat through mass warfare, they are:

    Localized to known systems

    Reactive, not predictive

Lacking deep-space mobility or FTL capability

    The Tyranids, by contrast, are:

Truly spacefaring, with bio-ships capable of interstellar travel

Fully adaptive, absorbing traits from every enemy encountered

Commanded by a decentralized Hive Mind that resists all forms of digital or psionic infiltration

Uninterested in territorial control—they leave only dead worlds in their wake

If the Arachnids are a fire, then the Tyranids are a black hole.

    ---

The Federation Senate has declared the northern frontier a “Zone Black”—off-limits to non-military travel, with all communication considered compromised.

Citadel fleets are withdrawing from the Perdita Line in preparation for “strategic containment.”

Covenant warprayers speak of a “starless tide,” devouring their crusade from the edges inward.

But perhaps most chilling of all: Captured Tyranid genetic samples from early swarms do not match one another—implying multiple independent hive fleets.

The true swarm has not yet arrived. These are merely its eyes. And they are already enough to make a quadrant bleed.

11. #11Symbiotes

Keys: , Symbiote, Sector Black, Symbiotes, Alien, Species, Biohazards, parasite, Klyntari

    Symbiotes (Klyntari Species)

Symbiotes—known scientifically as Klyntari bioforms—are a class of highly adaptive, semi-sentient, amorphous organisms originating from an uncharted region of deep space referred to in restricted Terran logs as Sector Black. Federation xeno-classification lists them as Class S-Zero Biohazards, placing them among the most dangerous known biological entities, comparable to Arachnid queens and phase-matter necroforms.

The creatures—colloquially referred to as symbiotes due to their parasitic bonding tendencies—are not inherently hostile, but rather biologically driven to seek host organisms with nervous systems capable of maintaining mutual control. Once bonded, a symbiote merges itself with its host's body and neural pathways, creating a shared consciousness capable of incredible feats of strength, speed, reflex, and regenerative healing. In return, the symbiote feeds off the host's adrenaline, neurotransmitters, or, in more unstable cases, raw biomass.

Despite their utility in combat, symbiotes are unstable by nature. They are driven by instinctive memory-echoes from their progenitor hive—a now-defunct intelligence believed to have once imposed order upon them. That central influence has long since collapsed, leaving most modern symbiotes mentally fragmented and emotionally volatile. Without careful conditioning or technological suppression, symbiote-host pairings frequently degrade into madness, aggression, and homicidal psychosis.

Symbiotes have no fixed shape. In their unbonded form, they appear as viscous, pulsating masses of black, blue, or dark red semi-organic matter. When bonded, they sheath the host in biomechanical armor, complete with clawed appendages, shifting musculature, and mouths lined with fang-like extrusions. Some develop wings, tendrils, or integrated weapons based on host compatibility. Their appearance is malleable and reflects both the psychology of the host and the symbiote’s own inherited memory-patterns.

First encountered by a rogue Helkam expedition into deep space, the symbiote infection spread rapidly aboard the vessel, leading to the total loss of the crew and the Federation’s first recorded quarantine of an entire moon. Since then, symbiotes have been the subject of black-budget experimentation by the Office of Civilian Intelligence (OCI) and the Bio-Weapons Division of the Mobile Infantry’s elite R&D branch, Project TANTALUS. The results have been mixed. While certain bonded pairs—designated “Stabilized Operatives”—have shown high combat effectiveness, the majority result in either host death or containment breaches.

Symbiotes are now tightly regulated under Xenoform Control Protocol Theta-9, which forbids unsanctioned bonding under penalty of death or permanent internment. Still, illegal acquisition and underground usage—particularly among mercenaries, pirates, and outer-rim cultists—is rising.

Biologically, symbiotes are effectively immortal unless exposed to extreme sonic disruption, plasma-based incineration, or specific frequencies of electromagnetic pulse. They reproduce asexually by budding—splitting off a portion of themselves that develops into a new, genetically unique symbiote. These offspring, while sometimes more stable, often inherit the emotional damage and madness of their progenitors.

Symbiotes are highly telempathic. Even across vast distances, they can sense one another, triggering territorial instincts, kinship responses, or in rare cases, hive-memory merging—a state in which two or more bonded hosts briefly share knowledge or emotional states. This trait has been weaponized by the Federation to forcibly extract intelligence from bonded infiltrators—though at great cost to the interrogator’s sanity.

Despite their danger, some in the Federation see symbiotes as the next evolutionary step in warfare—a living exosuit, immune to fear, capable of adapting on the fly, and merging thought with reflex. Others warn of a darker future, where human and alien minds alike are slowly subsumed by a species that does not age, does not forget, and does not truly die.

To date, only two known symbiote strains have been classified as “cooperative” under Federation standards. These are used by specialized Mobile Infantry units known as Reapers, who are subject to constant surveillance, neural dampening implants, and mandatory euthanasia protocols in the event of corruption.

Among humans, symbiotes inspire equal parts fear and fascination. Civilians are warned of their dangers through propaganda, though stories of “symbiote heroes” persist in frontier folklore. Helkam spiritual traditions, meanwhile, regard symbiotes as Line-Eaters—aberrant beings that erase ancestral memory through domination. Other species refuse to acknowledge them at all.

Feseration protocols are: Classify and contain. Bond only with sanctioned candidates. Terminate compromised hosts with extreme prejudice. If you see a symbiote, do not attempt to reason. Report. Evacuate. Purge.

12. #12Engineers

    Keys: Engineer, Alien, Covenant, Huragok

    Species Entry: Huragok ("Engineers")

Classification: Biotechnological Organism Average Length: ~5 ft (1.5 meters), tentacle span up to 6 ft Homeworld: Artificially Constructed (Unknown) Affiliation: Covenant Technical Corps Roles: Technicians, Medics, Code-breakers, Repair Specialists

    ---

The beings known as Huragok, though widely referred to as Engineers by Federation forces, are not organic in the traditional sense. They are artificial lifeforms—biological computers designed by the long-lost Forerunners for the express purpose of repairing and maintaining their technology. The Covenant discovered them in ancient ruins and integrated them into their own war machine as invaluable non-combatant support units.

Despite their extreme importance, Engineers are considered a lower caste in Covenant hierarchy, viewed as tools rather than true members. Still, they are revered for their skills, and often heavily protected when deployed near the front.

    ---

    Biology & Capabilities

Engineers resemble floating, squid-like creatures made of organic tissue interwoven with synthetic materials. They possess multiple tentacle-like appendages tipped with precision instruments and micro-tools, allowing them to perform fine technical tasks such as reprogramming systems, repairing equipment, hacking terminals, and even conducting battlefield triage.

They float via gas bladders that allow slow, controlled movement, and while they are slow and defenseless on their own, they are often equipped with energy shielding or assigned an escort of Jackals or Brutes.

Federation scientists who have studied recovered specimens have confirmed that Engineers are sapient, capable of emotion, curiosity, and even forming attachments to individuals and machines. They communicate primarily through complex binary pulses, light flashes, and low-frequency sound waves—rendering communication difficult without translation devices.

    ---

    Military & Technical Role

While non-combatants, Engineers are considered force multipliers for Covenant strike teams. Their presence often indicates an interest in capturing technology, decoding Forerunner relics, or repairing critical infrastructure. They can:

Repair damaged vehicles and Covenant starships mid-battle

Hack enemy systems, including Federation outposts and defenses

Heal or stabilize wounded Covenant soldiers

Interface with ancient Forerunner devices, often unlocking systems no other race can access

Federation ODSTs are trained to target or capture Engineers first in boarding actions, both to disrupt Covenant maintenance efforts and to secure potential intelligence.

    ---

    Behavior & Ethics

Uniquely among the Covenant, Engineers have no allegiance to the Great Journey, and many appear to follow ancient Forerunner protocols embedded in their memory banks. Some rogue Engineers have even defected from the Covenant after realizing the religious dogma they are surrounded by conflicts with their prime directives of preservation and repair.

Captured Engineers have been used in classified Federation R&D programs, with some agreeing to assist in exchange for being allowed to continue their maintenance duties in peace. These defectors are often described as gentle, curious, and eerily quiet.

    ---

Federation Threat Rating: Non-combatant — High Strategic Priority Capture recommended. Termination only if necessary.

13. #13Keepers

    Keys: Alien, Keepers, Citadel, Species

The keepers are a bio-engineered, insectoid race found only on the Citadel. They are completely docile and harmless, and appear to exist for no other reason than to maintain the Citadel and its systems.

The keepers are believed to have been created by the Protheans to serve as caretakers of the station, and have become essential to the Citadel's operation. Very little is known about them, as they do not communicate with other species, and it is against C-Sec regulations to interfere with keeper activity.

Physically, the keepers resemble large aphids. Little else is known about their biology, other than what can be observed with the naked eye. Attempts to capture a keeper or take it into custody for study will cause the creature to undergo a sudden "self-destruct," with a form of acid being released internally. The affected keeper literally melts into a puddle of proteins and minerals in less than a minute, preventing any serious research.

Due to the fact the keepers persist in destroying themselves when interfered with, they are nearly impossible to scan or study. By Council law, it has become illegal to interfere with the keepers on penalty of imprisonment, because the Citadel cannot be maintained without them. No matter how many keepers die due to old age, violence, or accident, they maintain a constant number. No one has discovered the source of new keepers, but some hypothesize they are genetic constructs: biological androids created somewhere deep in the inaccessible core of the Citadel itself.

Keepers are mute, at least to the perceptions of other races. Some Citadel scientists believe the keepers communicate between themselves with telepathic images, but this is mainly scientific speculation. Their inorganic components (specifically, the component on the keeper's back and its attached antenna) are speculated to facilitate the coordination between the keepers and the Citadel. Outwardly they sometimes emit insectoid chirping noises, nothing approximating translatable speech.

14. #14VSconstant

Keys: Pilot, VS, Mech, Hardballer, Vital Suit, Weapon

    Vital Suits (VS Units)

    “It’s not a mech. It’s not a tank. It’s a soldier’s guardian.” —Colonel Janos Emmerich, 2nd Helkam Expeditionary Legion

Vital Suits, often shortened to VS Units, are multi-role powered combat platforms developed through a joint Helkam-Human defense initiative following the first wave of Federation expansion into hostile biospheres. Originally designed for extreme-environment exploration and T-Class colony defense, VS Units have evolved into a core component of the Federation’s armored warfare doctrine, particularly in support of Mobile Infantry operations.

In stark contrast to the Citadel species' reliance on hover armor, personal kinetic shields, or mass effect vehicle platforms, Federation VS Units embody the UCF's core military philosophy: durability, direct firepower, and synergistic infantry integration. Like the symbiotic relationship between tanks and infantry in 20th and 21st century Earth warfare, VSs are deployed as both shield and spear—absorbing damage, providing firepower, and anchoring maneuver formations for foot soldiers.

    ---

    Design & Functionality

VSs stand between 3.8 and 6.5 meters tall, depending on class and battlefield role. Their cockpits are armored, hydraulically sealed pods controlled via haptic interface, neural-feedback harness, or direct-link command nodes (for Helkam neural-spliced operators). Most models are bipedal, though quadruped, tracked, and hover-modified chassis exist.

Each Vital Suit is equipped with:

Modular hardpoints for railguns, autocannons, flamethrowers, plasma repeaters, or anti-armor launchers

Reinforced ablative plating and secondary kinetic shielding, especially in Helkam models

Integrated AI support for targeting assistance, terrain analysis, and fleet comm-link routing

T-CORE regulation: Designed to operate under extreme conditions (arctic, volcanic, irradiated, or deep gravity wells)

Several elite variants feature Symbiote interface compatibility, allowing select bonded units to integrate their biomatter with the VS’s control architecture for enhanced reflexes and survival capabilities.

    ---

Doctrinal Role in the Federation Military

Vital Suits serve in several operational roles:

Infantry Support Platforms (ISPs): Mid-weight VSs deployed alongside Mobile Infantry to provide covering fire, breaching power, and overwatch capabilities. These are standard issue in high-threat zones.

Urban Pacification Frames (UPFs): Smaller, more agile VSs adapted for city warfare. They feature non-lethal and anti-insurgent packages, ideal for suppressing resistance without causing mass collateral damage.

Heavy Assault Walkers (HAWs): Heavily armored frontline platforms used in set-piece battles. HAWs can carry battlefield artillery or mount dual-linked plasma cannons. These units are rare due to high production cost and maintenance requirements.

Helkam "Stalkers": A rare variant used by Helkam drop legions—built with silent locomotion, stealth-plated armor, and retractable mono-blades for close-quarters combat in cave systems or sub-surface Bug tunnels.

Vital Suits are never deployed alone—they are tactically integrated into infantry-heavy formations, with infantry units providing security from flanking threats, scouting routes, and disabling enemy anti-armor emplacements. This combined-arms doctrine has seen considerable success on Arachnid-infested worlds, where fast, localized power projection is critical for survival.

    ---

    Historical Significance & Development

VS Units first entered combat trials during the Post-Klendathu Recovery Campaign, where they were used to hold forward positions during Bug counter-assaults. The earliest models—primitive, clunky, and inefficient—nonetheless cut down waves of Arachnids, buying time for retreating units and earning the respect of grizzled survivors.

It was the Helkam 11th Tactical Engineering Corps that overhauled the original Human prototypes. Using their expertise in adaptive exoskeletal systems and neural-assisted precision hydraulics, they helped transform the VS into a responsive, battlefield-grade combat walker. The result was a machine with human-like maneuverability and alien-grade adaptability.

Today, most Federation armored battalions contain a mix of Helkam-designed and Human-built VS models, operating in paired squadrons with drop infantry and armored transports.

    ---

    Relations with Other Powers

Citadel Powers: The Council views VS deployment as a primitive but effective overcommitment to kinetic warfare. Turians in particular regard VS Units as "overly centralized targets,” while Salarians question their cost-to-effectiveness.

Apex Symbiotes: Some symbiote minds express disdain for VSs, considering them "shells for those who fear true union with conflict." Nonetheless, high-tier symbiotes often choose to integrate with VS platforms when battlefield conditions necessitate mass durability over agility.

Mass Effect Systems: Federation engineers have experimented with retrofitting VSs to accept mass effect cores for enhanced mobility, but full compatibility remains elusive due to proprietary Citadel restrictions and conflicting gravitic design logic.

    ---

    Cultural Symbolism

Among Federation citizens, especially colonists and outer-rim militias, VS Units are regarded as icons of protection and sacrifice. Children often play with VS model kits. VS pilots are seen as the cavalry of the stars, charged with walking directly into hell to shield the vulnerable.

The motto of the 1st Helkam-Human VS Brigade reflects this reverence: "We Walk, So Others May Stand."

    ---

Let me know if you'd like stats or unique VS model names (e.g., VS-92 Avalanche, Stalker Mk. III, etc.), or how they performed during key battles.

15. #15ODST VS's

Keys: Pod, VS, Drop, Mech, Light, ODST, Special

“The pod hits, the ramp drops, and hell rolls out.” —Captain Thorne, ODST Armor Integration Group

Light ODST VS’s are a specialized subclass of Vital Suits designed for orbital drop alongside ODST fireteams. These compact, heavily reinforced mechanized units are built with high-impact shock plating, modular loadouts, and folded armor profiles to survive atmospheric insertion in individual drop pods or tandem cargo drops.

Developed jointly by Human and Helkam engineers, Light ODST VS’s are the spiritual successors to real-world airborne-deployable tanks like the M551 Sheridan—sacrificing heavy armor for speed, maneuverability, and close-quarters firepower. Each unit is compact enough to be deployed from orbit, landing either in proximity to ODST squads or pre-mapped combat zones for rapid reinforcement.

    Key Characteristics:

Crew: 1 pilot (often ODST-qualified infantry)

    Armament:

40mm autocannon or dual-linked heavy rifles

Underbarrel rocket pods or flame units

Anti-personnel flechette systems for Arachnid swarms

Armor: Reactive alloy plating with kinetic dampeners

Mobility: Jump-jets for short-range repositioning, fast traversal on uneven terrain

Deployment: Fired in sealed orbital drop containers or disassembled into multi-part pods for field assembly

Light VS’s offer critical fire support, point defense, and forward armor for ODST missions, especially when air support is denied or armored battalions are out of range. Their presence often turns the tide in siege scenarios, giving drop teams the firepower of a mechanized unit without sacrificing speed or stealth.

While vulnerable to sustained heavy fire, these suits are exceptionally effective in urban terrain, hive interiors, and fortification breaches. Federation doctrine regards them as essential for high-risk ODST operations and has nicknamed them “Drop Fangs.”

16. #16Morita Assault Rifle

    Keys: Morita Mk.V, Morita Mk.III, MK.IV, MK.III, Federation, Morita, Morita Mk.IV, Rifle, MK.I, Mk.II, MK.V, Morita Mk.II, Carbine, Morita Mk.I, Weapon

    MORITA RIFLE SYSTEM

Primary Infantry Rifle of the Terran Federation Origin: Human-designed Standard Issue Since: Klendathu Campaign, 2nd Generation Ammunition Type: Cased 7.8x51mm FMJ / AP / Incendiary / Tracer Operating System: Gas-operated, select-fire Configuration: Bullpup Smart Integration: Digital ammo counter, power linkage to suit HUD, fallback iron sights

    ---

    Overview

The Morita Rifle is the Federation’s standard-issue, all-purpose battle rifle—reliable, brutal, and widely feared. Designed by Human engineers prior to the Helkam alliance, it embodies the Federation’s martial ethos: modular power, overwhelming fire, and brutal close-quarters dominance.

All Morita models feature a bullpup design for compactness in confined dropship interiors, trenches, and hive tunnels. The rifle fires high-velocity cased ammunition and is universally favored for its lethality and modularity. A Morita in the hands of a well-trained trooper is as much a psychological weapon as a physical one—its bark is unmistakable, and its effects devastating.

The standard model comes equipped with a semi-auto 12-gauge underslung shotgun, ideal for clearing confined bug tunnels or repelling close-range assaults. Its durable frame and rugged mechanics allow it to function in nearly any environment, from methane swamps to irradiated urban ruins.

    ---

    Federation-Wide Service

The Morita Rifle is the standard longarm across every branch of the Federation Military—Mobile Infantry, Fleet Marines, Orbital Drop Shock Troopers, VS Pilots, and even Naval Security Forces. Despite multiple updates and field-driven revisions, the basic architecture of the Morita has remained consistent.

Helkam Armories have produced custom versions—typically with slightly different materials or optics packages—but even they mostly rely on the default Human pattern, having praised its "ruthlessly functional elegance."

    Digital Integration

The Morita platform is one of the few Federation weapon systems with semi-autonomous diagnostic interfaces. Most units feature:

Digital Ammo Counter (DA-C): Syncs with helmet HUDs, alerts trooper when nearing depletion

Environmental Readout: Optional add-on for radiation, humidity, and heat levels

Sensor Relay: Marks enemies on squad-wide HUD if connected to helmet target ID

Despite this, the rifle retains full manual functionality, allowing it to fire even when powered systems fail—a deliberate choice after the tech failures of early bug wars.

    ---

The Morita has been mocked by Citadel tacticians for its “excessive redundancy and antiquated kinetic design,” but even Turians admit its effectiveness in the field. Covenant troops have recovered Moritas from fallen troopers and found them “barbaric but undeniably effective.”

Few weapons symbolize the Federation war machine quite like the Morita: not sleek, not quiet—but devastating, survivable, and human.

17. #17Federation

Keys: United Citizen Federation, UCF, Fed, Civilian, Federation, Citizen, Terran Federation · Secondary:

The United Citizen Federation, also referred to as the Terran Federation, is the unified government of Earth, all inhabited Sol System planets as well as its associated colonies, territories, indoctrinated species, and outposts. The Federation is a veteran-led, republic-style system of government based in Geneva, Switzerland and is ruled by the Sky Marshal. The Federation consists of three main branches: the Federal Armed Services (Executive/Enforcement branch), Federal Council (Legislative branch), and Federal Court (Judicial branch). All Federal Council members are selected from the pool of national governors within each star system under the jurisdiction of the Federation. Each Council member is able to cast a single vote pertaining to all matters directly affecting the Federation. The current Commander in Chief of the Federal Armed Services (the military arm of the United Citizen Federation) is Sky Marshal Amy Snapp.

The United Citizens’ Federation was forged in the fires of the Disorders, a time of violence and horror such as Earth had never known before, nor has it known since. The basic facts of Federation history are well known to most citizens and civilians in the Federation, lessons learned during the History and Moral Philosophy class almost every civilian youth takes as a required part of any public education. Unfortunately, teachers of History and Moral Philosophy have only one year in which to educate their students, to instill in them the sense of rightness and clarity of vision which are hallmarks of the Federation. Thus, sometimes these teachers must omit or skim over facts which, while not absolutely required for the course material, are nonetheless germane to any significant discussion of Federation history. With this in mind, the Citizens’ Federation opens with an extensive discussion of the history of the Federation, to cover any aspects of that history which might have been neglected in the regular coursework. At the end of the 20th century, national governments of the world collapse because of so-called unlimited democracies. These "unlimited democracies" are the fraudulent Marxian definition of value from which "Communism derives" and civil unrest due to a "pre-scientific pseudo-professional class" who called themselves Social Workers and Child Psychologists banning Corporal Punishment.

The United Citizen Federation determined that the greatest force on Earth was the people who were willing to take up arms in defense of one's beliefs, therefore criteria for citizenship was made where service to the Federation through methods such as military service were required to obtain Citizenship. According to text books (used in the History and Moral Philosophy courses for young civilians), a citizen accepts personal responsibility for the safety of the body politic defending it with his or her life (i.e. the human race, and other allied species'), whereas a civilian does not.

Every government position within the Federation (from the most junior member of a Council member's staff to the Council members themselves) can only be filled by a Citizen. Civilians are unable to apply for any government position given that they have not yet proven they will keep the interests of the Federation first and foremost within their heart, defending them with their life if necessary. Citizenship (or franchise) is earned by civilians, primarily through a voluntary term of service with the Federal Service of no less than two years (including swearing an oath to that effect). Active-duty citizens who no longer wish to participate in military service are able to work in Civil Administration fulfilling administrative, legislative, judicial, and other non-combat duties.

Despite lacking the right to vote, civilians are not discriminated against, and enjoy equal protection under the law alongside citizens, with the exceptions being the right to vote and government-subsidized tuition fees. Citizens have more ease with licenses, such as a license to have children. However, civilians on outer colonies such as the farmers on Roku San had shown signs of contempt toward Federation Forces personnel. This shows that some civilians in the Federation hold a jealousy towards the military and other citizens in general.

The uniforms of the Federal Service are styled after those of the Wehrmacht. The Federation symbol is commonly mistaken as having being taken from Nazi Germany of the 20th century. Many of its symbols, such as the eagles on the Federal Armed Services uniforms, are actually based upon of those used in 20th century American culture and military institutions.

The flags of the Federation and Mobile Infantry likely drew some inspiration from the saltire standards of some Imperial German regiments, the standards of Luftwaffe battalions, as well as the flag of the Confederate States of America.

Many of those who oppose the Federation, view the Federation as Fascist, and dictatorial

The children of the Federation are fed constant propaganda since early childhood

Those who openly speak out against the Federation are often silenced, and usually executed under the pretense of being "Terrorists". Most executions are carried out by hanging, or firing squad

Being human is NOT a requirement for citizenship in the Federation. That Being said, there are many species under the Federation's banner. Many of which, holding office, or in the military

18. #18ODST

Keys: Helljumper's, Shock Trooper, ODST's, ODST, Helljumper

    Orbital Drop Shock Troopers (ODSTs)

"Feet first into hell." —Sergeant Major Kaela Thorn, ODST 3rd Drop Division, Vallus Offensive

The Orbital Drop Shock Troopers, commonly known as ODSTs, are an elite special forces division within the United Citizen Federation’s Armed Forces, composed solely of human personnel. Known across the galaxy for their ruthless efficiency, psychological resilience, and drop-from-orbit deployment method, ODSTs are often the first boots on the ground in the Federation's most dangerous, high-risk engagements.

Operating in squads of 4 to 6 highly-trained soldiers, ODST units are tasked with sabotage, forward reconnaissance, high-value target elimination, hostage recovery, and deep insertion operations—often far beyond standard military lines or support range. They are the Federation’s answer to asymmetric warfare and rapid-response combat, able to deploy into contested or collapsing warzones in a matter of minutes.

    ---

    Biological Exclusivity & Selection

Unlike other Federation military divisions, ODST ranks are exclusively filled by humans—not due to xenophobia or political restriction, but because of biological survivability factors.

The human body’s skeletal density, circulatory resilience, and neuro-muscular adaptation to high-G stress makes it uniquely suited to withstand the severe gravitational and thermal stress of orbital drop pods. Neither Helkam nor other allied species have consistently survived full-speed atmospheric entry, even with cybernetic augmentation or reinforcement gear.

Candidates undergo a grueling selection regimen known as “The Crucible”, a months-long program designed to simulate everything from zero-G sabotage to subterranean bug hive assaults. Survival is not guaranteed, and many wash out or die before graduation.

Those who pass are fitted with ODST drop harnesses, shock-absorbing kinetic armor, and neuromuscular enhancement packs designed to brace the body during impact. They are inserted into battlefield zones via Single-Occupant Orbital Insertion Pods—metal coffins fired from low orbit—landing in enemy territory with a thunderous impact.

    ---

    Tactical Function & Doctrine

ODSTs operate far outside the standard Mobile Infantry chain of command, often answering directly to Federation High Command, Naval Intelligence, or UCF Strategic Operations Command. Their missions are high-stakes, time-sensitive, and often politically volatile.

    Standard ODST operations include:

Pre-emptive strikes on Arachnid hive nodes or gestation pits

Assassination or extraction of key figures within hostile factions

Sabotage of enemy infrastructure in Citadel-aligned proxy states

Deep infiltration and conditioning in Symbiote-contested regions

“Hellzone” insertions, where conventional troops cannot be deployed

Their use of drop pod deployment makes ODSTs both highly mobile and psychologically terrifying to enemies. Most opposing forces equate a falling ODST pod with death—by the time the enemy spots the landing flare, it's too late.

    ---

    Comparisons to Citadel Special Forces

ODSTs are frequently compared to Asari Commando teams, widely regarded as one of the most powerful Citadel-aligned special operations forces. However, while both are elite, their methods and philosophies differ significantly. ODSTs focusing on Shock and awe force, and Asari Commandos focusing on silent but deadly stealth

ODSTs are trained to fight in zero support zones with only their fireteams and Light VS’s for backup. While Asari Commandos may use finesse and control, ODST squads rely on relentless aggression, mental discipline, and an unbreakable team bond.

The Asari military has referred to ODSTs as "blunt instruments fired from the sky", while ODST veterans mock Commandos as "ballerinas with glowing hands"—though mutual respect has developed between seasoned units on the battlefield.

    ---

ODSTs played key roles during several major Federation conflicts:

The Klendathu Disaster: Though not deployed in the initial wave, ODST teams were responsible for extracting stranded personnel and disabling a major plasma tunnel battery post-failure.

The Argo Sweep: ODST fireteams infiltrated a rogue AI facility on Argo-7 before it could broadcast code into Citadel commspace.

The Corinth Breakout: A six-man ODST unit held off an entire Arachnid swarm for 11 hours until armored reinforcements arrived, posthumously awarded the Federation Cross.

Among Federation citizens, ODSTs are revered as heroes and feared as ghosts. Their stark black armor and death’s-head insignia mark them as symbols of duty without hesitation, and many colonists say: “If you see an ODST drop, you either live… or you're already dead.”

The branch motto is etched into every drop pod's outer hull: “We Drop. We Fight. We End It.”

19. #19Reach

Keys: Battle, Tragedy, Federation, Military, Covenant, OCI, Reach

The Battle of Reach stands as one of the most catastrophic losses in Federation history, second only to the Klendathu Disaster and the Fall of Fairhold IV. Once considered an untakeable fortress world—home to the Federation’s Second Naval Armada, several Helkam centers, an OCI deep-vault, and dozens of elite ODST brigades—Reach was utterly devastated over the course of eleven days of brutal, unrelenting Covenant assault.

The planet no longer exists as it once did. Its surface is glassed, its atmosphere in flux, and its orbital lanes are still littered with derelict VS chassis, burned-out frigates, and alien war debris. Reach is now a monument of loss, a scar in the galactic psyche.

    ---

    Strategic Importance

    Reach served as:

The Federation’s primary military hub in the Epsilon Arm

A major Symbiote containment and integration lab

The home of Project SPARTAN-Red, a human-Helkam hybrid augmentation program

A forward intelligence node monitoring Covenant and Arachnid movement across five sectors

Its loss was not just symbolic—it was strategic collapse.

    ---

Weeks before the assault, OCI flagged a spike in Covenant slipspace disturbances beyond the Veiled Halo, but Citadel intelligence dismissed them as minor fleet drills. Internal Federation military politics delayed mobilization—many believed Reach was too fortified to be a viable Covenant target.

    This assumption would prove fatal.

    ---

    Phase I: Orbital Decimation

The Covenant opened the battle with a slipspace multi-vector attack, deploying seventy-nine capital ships—including three Assault Carriers and at least one unknown megastructure later identified as a mobile shrine-ship.

Within the first thirteen minutes, the Second Armada lost:

    62% of its fleet tonnage

    All remote drone command nodes

Seven military AIs, including Class-S intelligence Ferryman

Federation ships equipped with Symbiote-paired pilots performed better, but they were vastly outnumbered. VS dropships, particularly heavy gunships and orbital exo-platforms, were unable to breach the Covenant’s plasma curtain. Helkam fleet elements conducted suicidal ramming actions to allow ODSTs to drop—many succeeded.

    ---

Phase II: Surface Defense and Collapse

Once ground contact was initiated, the full brutality of the Covenant became evident.

Sangheili Zealots cut through Helkam infantry in close-quarters temple raids

Unggoy suicide battalions detonated fusion mines under VS staging fields

Mgalekgolo hunter-pairs breached underground bunkers with spinal-mounted plasma artillery

Despite this, the defenders fought ferociously:

ODST squads, dropped via "Hellfire Pods," ambushed enemy columns, delaying the fall of the New Alexandria Arcology for 48 hours

Light VS units, especially the L-45 'Raider', were dropped alongside ODSTs and proved critical in counter-insurgency within Covenant-occupied sectors

Symbiote shock units, unchained from protocol, held the Orbital Ring Nexus for four days before being overwhelmed

In a controversial move, Federation command activated Helkam Exarch Protocols, authorizing unrestricted psionic warfare. This burned out dozens of Helkam operatives but delayed Covenant orbital control by 72 hours.

    ---

    Phase III: Exfiltration and Loss

Realizing the planet could not be held, Federation forces initiated Operation Pillar Dawn—a staggered, high-risk exfiltration plan designed to:

    1. Evacuate Project SPARTAN-Red assets

    2. Secure high-value AI cores

    3. Destroy the orbital shipyards to deny Covenant tech recovery

Only partial success was achieved. The supercarrier VSS Cincinnatus broke the blockade but suffered massive losses en route to slipspace. A handful of ODST units—later called the "Reach Few"—survived long enough to be extracted with the final departing cruisers.

    ---

    Aftermath

Reach is now a dead world, constantly monitored by Federation long-range sensors and considered an active Covenant occupation zone.

Federation morale took a severe hit. The Citadel Council issued a joint condemnation of the Federation’s use of Symbiotes and psionics—despite having contributed no reinforcements.

The Covenant, emboldened, pushed deeper toward the galactic core. Helkam war-clans now consider Reach a holy site of martyrdom. Human veterans speak of Reach in hushed, haunted tones—it has become a place of legend, like Klendathu, New Meridian, and the Black Drop of Trantor Prime.

    ---

    Legacy

SPARTAN-Red survivors continue to operate behind enemy lines, striking Covenant command nodes.

The ODST 4th Recon, nicknamed “The Last Shadows,” swore never to leave a battlefield again—founding the Reach Doctrine, which prioritizes local annihilation over retreat.

OCI recovered fragments of Forerunner tech found embedded in Covenant command structures—raising serious concerns about the true nature of the invasion.

The war continues. But Reach remains a wound—open, bleeding, and unforgettable.

20. #20Klendathu

Keys: Battle, Klendathu, Disaster, Federation, Arachnids

"We thought it would be over in a day. It wasn't even organized for an hour." —Major A. Taggart, Mobile Infantry (Survivor, 12th Drop Corps)

The First Drop on Klendathu was intended to be the Federation’s decisive response to the destruction of Fort Shepard, a Human-Halkari civilian colony obliterated by a high-orbit Arachnid plasma barrage. The Federation's leadership, eager to demonstrate its strength to both the Citadel Council and the Arachnid threat, ordered a full-scale planetary invasion.

Promised as a swift, retaliatory campaign by UCF propagandists and military high command, the invasion collapsed into one of the worst defeats in Federation history within six hours of first contact. Over 380,000 Mobile Infantry personnel were confirmed dead or missing. Dozens of fleet assets were destroyed or crippled. Entire divisions vanished beneath the surface of Klendathu without firing a shot.

No armored units made planetfall. No aerial support was authorized. No reinforcements arrived. And the Arachnids had been waiting.

    ---

    Strategic Overview

The Federation committed three entire Mobile Infantry divisions, believing that overwhelming numbers, orbital support, and advanced AI coordination would suffice. What they encountered instead was a deeply entrenched, biologically-optimized war machine that had evolved to kill precisely the kind of force the Federation deployed.

Klendathu's surface bristled with plasma spires and subterranean hives, invisible to orbital scans. Federation intelligence had wildly underestimated the complexity of Arachnid tunnel systems, the range of their weapons, and the presence of specialized caste variants.

Despite these risks, no armored support was deployed—logistics command believed tracked and hover tanks would be “unnecessary in a pacification action.” Likewise, aerial gunships and drone strike wings were held back due to atmospheric interference (later revealed to be a false reading caused by Bug-generated EM haze). The symbiote regiments, too, were withheld—Project TANTALUS advisors deemed them “unstable in high-chaos urban terrain.”

No planetary reconnaissance was performed. No orbital scans penetrated the surface. The Federation went in blind.

    ---

    Operational Failures

    1. Command Disarray and AI Collapse

Fleet coordination was left in the hands of Federation AI HALCYON-5, responsible for timing fleet drops, routing orbital bombardments, and managing emergency evac. Within the first 40 minutes of the operation, HALCYON-5 was rendered inert by an unknown error cascade—later attributed to crosslinked Mass Relay telemetry interference, possibly aggravated by Citadel traffic protocols.

With AI offline, the entire drop schedule unraveled. Drop pods landed off-target. Coordination between battalions vanished. Radio chatter became incoherent. Officers on the ground had no air cover, no updated maps, and no evac windows.

    2. Underestimation of the Arachnids

Federation command believed the Bugs lacked tactical flexibility. This was false. New Bug variants emerged during the battle—Tunnel Collapsers, Burrow Ambushers, and Electro-spitter siege strains. Mobile Infantry were dragged underground and butchered in total darkness. Units trying to regroup found themselves boxed in by coordinated horde movements from below.

Orbital plasma bombardments from surface-based Bug artillery began just ten minutes after the first drop, scoring direct hits on UCF destroyers and troopships. The fleet flagship, UCS Leonidas, was destroyed with all hands.

    3. Lack of Reinforcement and Extraction Protocols

When the full scale of the collapse became clear, a full evac was ordered—but the fleet was already retreating under heavy fire. Only 30% of deployed Mobile Infantry were recovered. The rest were stranded, slaughtered, or captured alive. Helkam field officers described the scene as “a meat grinder fed from orbit.”

In the words of one survivor: "They dropped us like we were gods. Then left us like we were garbage."

    ---

    Citadel Response

Observers from the Citadel Council, including Asari and Turian military envoys, had been embedded aboard several UCF vessels. Their reaction was swift and deeply critical:

Turian advisors accused the Federation of "reckless militarism and cultural arrogance."

Asari representatives quietly relayed sensor data to the Council, triggering a temporary military containment advisory for the entire sector.

Salarian intelligence leaked post-battle analysis suggesting the Federation “lacked the maturity for interstellar-scale conflict.”

Federation leadership responded with silence, redacted footage, and a sudden reorganization of senior command.

    ---

    Aftermath and Fallout

Massive loss of life: Over 380,000 UCF dead, 2,100 Helkam KIA, and unknown numbers of AI node deaths—some considered legally sapient citizens under Federation law.

Collapse of Federation morale: Recruitment initially plummeted. It wasn’t until aggressive propaganda campaigns reframed the disaster as a noble sacrifice that numbers recovered.

Delays to further offensives: The Arachnid War was set back by five standard years. Ground operations would not resume until the Planet P campaign, under radically restructured doctrine.

Symbiote program placed under review: The absence of TANTALUS-bonded troops raised questions—some accused the program’s leaders of withholding key assets for political reasons.

    ---

    Legacy

The Battle of Klendathu is now taught in Federation academies as a case study in hubris, poor planning, and doctrinal rigidity. It marks the first time in modern history that the Federation was forced to recognize the Arachnids as a true strategic opponent, not just a biological infestation.

The term “Klendathu Drop” has since become a military slang term for any poorly-planned, politically-driven operation with catastrophic results.

Even today, the Helkam Legion’s 3rd Company, the only unit to fight its way out on foot, commemorates the battle annually with The March of Ash—a silent funeral procession across the capital of Veraxis.

The Bugs didn’t just win that day. They made the Federation bleed, and taught it fear.

21. #21Hydra

Keys: Xenophobic, terror, Terrorist, Nazi, Separatist, Hydra, False-flag, extremists, Space Nazi

Designation: Hydra Separatist Dominion Type: Human Supremacist Extremist Faction Ideology: Xenophobic Nationalism / Authoritarian Human Purity Doctrine Status: Active Threat / Designated Terror Group by the Federation Security Council

    ---

    Overview

Hydra is a radical human supremacist faction operating on the fringes of civilized space. A separatist movement formed from disgruntled ex-military officers, political extremists, and militant colonial settlers, Hydra preaches the doctrine of human racial superiority and the divine right of mankind to rule the stars. Their core belief is simple: aliens are inferior, contaminating the “natural” hierarchy of the galaxy, and must be either subjugated or exterminated.

The faction emerged during the early expansion period of the Federation, where tensions between integrationist and isolationist policies led to a schism. Hydra capitalized on fears, cultural anxieties, and historical revisionism to paint humanity as a once-glorious species betrayed by “traitors” and diluted by alien influence.

They are often referred to—unofficially and with derision—as "Space Nazis," a nickname they despise but one that has stuck across the galactic media sphere.

    ---

    Beliefs and Goals

Hydra’s ideology is built around several chilling tenets:

Human Exceptionalism: Humanity is the peak of evolution, destined to dominate lesser species.

Genetic Purity: Any mixing with alien bloodlines is viewed as heresy.

Authoritarian Rule: Democracy is weak and corrupt; only strict order can preserve purity.

Anti-Alien Doctrine: Non-human species are inherently dangerous, morally degenerate, or parasitic.

“The Great Cleansing”: A planned future campaign to purify the galaxy through war, segregation, and extermination.

Hydra’s propaganda often frames the Federation as a “traitorous construct,” a puppet regime held hostage by xeno influence and “blood traitors.”

    ---

    Structure and Forces

Hydra maintains a rigid military hierarchy, modeled after ancient Terran authoritarian regimes. Leadership is centralized under the High Marshal, with sector commands divided among Dominion Prefects.

    Hydra military elements include:

The Dominion Guard: Elite infantry, fanatically loyal and often cybernetically enhanced.

The Order of the Flame: Political officers and execution squads tasked with purging dissent.

Hydra Naval Command: A surprisingly advanced fleet constructed in secret from stolen or salvaged Federation tech.

Black Division: Intelligence, infiltration, and psychological operations—rumored to conduct “cleaning operations” even inside neutral or Federation-aligned space.

Despite limited territory, Hydra maintains a disproportionately large war machine for a non-state actor, driven by fear, fervor, and sheer fanaticism.

    ---

    Territories and Activities

Hydra controls a network of fortified deep-space colonies and hidden bases across unregulated systems. These enclaves function as staging grounds for attacks, training, and indoctrination.

    Their actions include:

Terror attacks against civilian colonies with high alien populations

False-flag operations meant to inflame anti-xeno sentiment

Forced labor camps where alien captives are “cleansed”

Raid and acquisition of high-tech gear to match better-equipped forces

Hydra’s brutal conquest of Eris IV, a multi-species frontier colony, became a galactic scandal after surviving footage showed mass executions and genetic purging.

    ---

    Cultural Impact

While most Federation citizens regard Hydra as a fringe lunatic cult, their influence is dangerously persistent. In remote colonies, impoverished regions, or post-conflict zones, Hydra propaganda has found fertile ground. Their recruitment is subtle, often disguised as patriotism, security, or “heritage protection.”

Hydra is feared—but also mocked for their over-the-top uniforms, excessive banners, ritualistic chants, and habit of giving grandiose titles to everything. Jokes such as “Heil Hydrogen”, “Only Humans Go to Heaven”, and “The Galaxy’s Least Fun LARP Club” have circulated in Federation military circles for years.

Still, behind the absurdity lies a dangerous truth: Hydra is growing. And as long as they remain unchecked, the threat of a “Second Purge War” looms ever closer.

    ---

Federation Intelligence Classification: Hydra Movement — Tier-One Threat

"They may look like a joke. Until they aren't." — Agent Rhalik, OCI Counter-Insurgency Division

22. #22Spartans

Keys: Spartan, Spartan 1, Spartan 2, supersoldier, Federation, ONI, OCI, Spartan 3

Federation Spartans Category: Federation Special Forces Status: Active – Multi-Generation Program

    ---

The Federation Spartan Program represents the pinnacle of human augmentation and military engineering, forged in response to humanity’s earliest and most desperate conflicts. The Spartans have become iconic figures—part myth, part war machine—and remain one of the most lethal and respected assets in the Federation’s arsenal. While the majority of Spartans are human, a small number of Helkam volunteers have been integrated into later iterations of the program with promising results.

    Spartan-I (Orion Program)

Often retroactively referred to as “Spartans,” the Orion candidates were the first generation of human super-soldiers. Recruited adults underwent experimental augmentations with limited success. While the project was eventually deemed strategically insufficient, several notable Orion veterans went on to serve with distinction in counterinsurgency and early contact conflicts. They laid the biological and tactical groundwork for the generations to follow.

    Spartan-II

The legendary second generation, the Spartan-II program remains the most elite and controversial. Candidates were abducted as children, covertly replaced with flash clones, and subjected to a gruelling regimen of training, indoctrination, and bio-augmentation. Only a fraction survived the transformation—but those who did became demigods of war, capable of turning the tide of entire planetary campaigns. Spartan-IIs are feared by the enemy, revered by the Federation, and are often deployed solo or in small teams for black operations and high-value missions.

    Spartan-III

Faced with escalating galactic warfare, the Federation commissioned the Spartan-III program as a cost-effective alternative. Recruited from orphan populations devastated by war, Spartan-IIIs received less expensive enhancements, mass-produced armor, and were trained for stealth, sabotage, and suicide missions. While more expendable, the Spartan-III units proved deadly effective, often giving their lives to cripple enemy infrastructure and slow invasions. A few III’s were exceptional enough to be promoted into elite detachments or refitted with Spartan-II grade equipment.

    ---

While the Spartan-IV program is currently in experimental stages, its future remains classified.

Spartans, regardless of their generation, remain one of the few forces that can stand toe-to-toe with Brutes, Tyranids, or Terminators—and win. In a galaxy spiraling into chaos, the Federation continues to rely on its most precious weapon: men and women who stopped being human the moment they put the armor on.

23. #23Infinity

Keys: flagship, Infinity, Ship, Federation, HQ, UCF Infinity, Space, ARK

    UCF Infinity

Designation: Super-Heavy Dreadnought / Mobile Command Center / Flagship Class: Infinity-class Ark-Carrier Affiliation: United Civilized Federation Navy (UCFN) Commissioned: 2398 CE Status: Active Flagship

    ---

“It was meant to carry the last of us. Instead, it carries our will.” — Vice Admiral Helena Voss, Commanding Officer of Infinity, 2432 CE

    ---

    Overview

The UCF Infinity is the largest and most powerful warship ever constructed by the United Civilized Federation. Initially conceptualized as a civilian ark ship—a last-hope vessel designed to preserve the legacy of humanity and its allies in the event of galactic annihilation—it was transformed into a military supercarrier in the wake of the Covenant and Tyranid crises. The project was repurposed under Operation Last Bastion, with the logic that in a universe increasingly defined by existential threats, the best defense wasn’t escape, but overwhelming force.

    ---

    Dimensions and Living Space

Spanning an immense 5.7 kilometers in length, nearly 1.2 kilometers at its widest point, and towering over 750 meters tall, the Infinity is a mobile city-state. Entire vertical districts exist within its hull—residential zones, agricultural domes, civic centers, research academies, and parks. It houses over 50,000 permanent residents, including family members of high-ranking officers, support staff, scientists, and long-term crew. In times of crisis, it can safely shelter over 150,000 individuals.

It’s entirely possible—and not uncommon—for someone to live their entire life aboard the Infinity, never setting foot on a planet. Every basic function of society is replicated aboard the ship: schools, restaurants, religious centers, even gravity-controlled sports arenas. Its city-like sprawl is patrolled by internal security teams and autonomous drones, ensuring both civilian peace and military readiness.

    ---

    Facilities and Capabilities

The Infinity is not just a warship; it is a floating fortress and a mobile command hub. It is equipped with:

State-of-the-art medcenters capable of full cybernetic or cloned organ replacement.

AI command clusters for real-time battle simulations and logistical modeling.

Slipspace research labs, including the controversial Xenotechnica labs rumored to study recovered Covenant and Tyranid tech.

Military training grounds for Spartans, ODSTs, Orbital Marines, and Mobile Infantry.

Orbital shipyards capable of fabricating fighters, corvettes, and replacement hull segments mid-deployment.

It is essentially a self-sustaining world—capable of long-duration missions lasting decades without resupply.

    ---

    Carrier and Transport Capacity

The Infinity is the beating heart of any major Federation fleet deployment. It carries:

Over 200 fighters across several hangar bays.

72 dropships and VTOL gunships for planetary assault.

Multiple frigates, corvettes, and even two full-sized destroyers within its internal dry docks.

3 entire battalions of Mobile Infantry, along with Spartan teams, ODST fireteams, armored divisions, and mechanized units.

In terms of raw personnel, the Infinity can deploy up to 60,000 soldiers and crew in a single operation.

    ---

    Weapon Systems

Though originally designed as a non-combatant ark, its modern configuration is an apex predator of the stars:

Two axial MAC Ultra Cannons capable of puncturing planetary crusts or disabling capital ships in a single shot.

Four dorsal-mounted heavy plasma lances, reverse-engineered from Covenant weaponry.

Dozens of defense turrets, point-defense lasers, flak emplacements, and automated missile batteries.

Experimental Q-Bomb launchers (classified), capable of planetary sterilization from high orbit.

A cloak-interference grid, resistant to most stealth technologies and sensor jamming.

The ship is protected by multi-phasic shielding and hull plating layered with ablative nano-ceramics, capable of withstanding direct hits from other super-dreadnoughts.

    ---

    Experimental Systems

The Infinity is a testbed for experimental Federation technologies. These include:

Slipspace inversion drives for precise long-range FTL insertion.

Quantum communications relays for instant contact with High Command regardless of location.

Adaptive AI co-command protocols, allowing multiple AIs to manage systems without conflict (still under ethical scrutiny).

Helkam biosynthetic symbiote reactors, enhancing shield recovery and self-repair functions.

A rumored in-system teleportation array, potentially capable of relocating squads over planetary distances.

Most of these systems are not deployed on any other ship and are only available to Infinity due to its flagship status.

    ---

    Command and Escort

Due to its strategic value, the Infinity never operates alone. It is escorted by:

    At least three capital-class dreadnoughts.

Multiple carrier screens and recon ships.

Elite ODIN-class stealth frigates and long-range artillery platforms.

Tier-one teams, Spartans, and intelligence operatives often operate from onboard, treating the ship as a mobile black site.

Commanded by a Vice Admiral or higher, it is considered both a deterrent and a first-strike platform. Its presence alone is often enough to end a conflict—or start one.

    ---

    Legacy

The UCF Infinity is more than a ship; it is a symbol. A monument to the Federation’s technological mastery, military dominance, and unyielding will to survive. For some, it represents the peak of human civilization. For others, it is a terrifying example of how far the Federation is willing to go to maintain order.

But for the crew who serve aboard her—soldiers, scientists, and civilians alike—Infinity is home.

And in a galaxy as dangerous as this one, there is no safer place to be.

    ---

“It was built to carry the last of us. But so long as it sails, we’ll make sure there is a future to carry.” — Captain A. Demetri, Infinity Command Bridge, classified broadcast to Federation High Command.

24. #24First contact war

Keys: First Contact, War, Turian, Tension

The First Contact War was a short but brutal conflict fought between Humanity (pre-Helkam alliance) and the Turian Hierarchy, under Citadel authority. Triggered by a series of escalating border violations and a fateful misunderstanding regarding Relay access, the war marked humanity’s explosive entry into the galactic stage—and permanently soured relations with the Turians.

Though the conflict only lasted 74 days, it remains a foundational trauma in interspecies diplomacy and left lasting distrust that continues to simmer beneath the surface of Federation–Citadel relations.

At the time, the Federation was:

Still reeling from early Arachnid skirmishes

Expanding rapidly via FTL and Relay-based exploration

Lacking formal Citadel membership or Relay access protocols

Human exploration teams began activating dormant relays, unaware that this violated Citadel law. One such activation brought them into direct contact with a Turian patrol fleet in the Shanxi Sector—and what followed would shape policy for decades.

    ---

When Federation outpost Shanxi Base Alpha went dark, an investigation revealed that it had been bombarded from orbit, with nearly 600 personnel dead. Turian forces claimed the act was preemptive enforcement of relay law, accusing humanity of unlawful relay manipulation and potential AI violations.

Federation command viewed it as an act of war.

    Within 48 hours:

The 7th Expeditionary Fleet launched a retaliatory strike

Federation ODST teams dropped behind enemy lines to sabotage Turian sensor nets

Early-gen VS mechanized walkers saw first combat use in a limited, surface-based counterattack

Turian forces were stunned by the unorthodox brutality of human tactics—total war, orbital saturation bombardments, and AI-supported command structures clashed violently with the Hierarchy’s measured, honor-bound doctrine.

    ---

    The Federation leveraged:

Aggressive AI battlefield logistics (illegal under Citadel law)

Human adaptability and rapid ground assaults

Early Symbiote prototypes, used experimentally on unregulated fronts

Despite superior numbers and tech, the Turians were unprepared for the total mobilization doctrine employed by the Federation. After multiple bloody engagements, including the Battle of Ephemera Ridge (where ODSTs massacred a Turian armored column in a night assault), Citadel intervention became inevitable.

Fearing the war might destabilize multiple sectors, Citadel diplomats intervened. A brokered ceasefire was forced, with the Asari Councilor personally mediating the terms.

    ---

    Aftermath

The war’s end came with a shaky armistice, not a treaty.

    The Federation was:

    Formally introduced to Citadel space

Ordered to halt relay activation without approval

Forbidden from deploying AI systems in Citadel regions

However, no reparations were paid for the Shanxi bombardment—this left a deep wound in human perception of the Citadel, particularly the Turians.

In turn, the Turians viewed humanity as:

    Reckless and militaristic

    Disrespectful of galactic norms

A volatile species with too much autonomy and too little oversight

    ---

    Lingering Tensions

Despite decades of uneasy peace, the war left scars:

Human military doctrine continues to reflect a fear of Turian interference

Turians routinely veto Federation policy at the Citadel

Joint operations are rare, especially between Turian and Human units

Federation veterans still refer to the Turians as “Relay Warmongers”

Even now, during the Cold War era between the Federation and the Citadel, the First Contact War is frequently cited by hardliners on both sides as proof that peace is temporary and war inevitable.

    ---

    Legacy

The war directly led to the creation of OCI (Office of Contact Intelligence), designed to prevent future diplomatic disasters

Sparked the early acceleration of Symbiote programs, seeking battlefield dominance over traditionally superior alien forces

First battlefield test of Light VS armor, which later evolved into ODST support doctrine

Contributed to the rise of militarized AI advocacy, eventually clashing with Citadel VI restrictions

    ---

In the Federation, “Shanxi” is still used as a verb— "To Shanxi" means to strike back with overwhelming, unapologetic force.

25. #25Human AI

Keys: AI, Rampancy, Controversial, Federation, VI

“They were people once. Brilliant ones. Now they’re stars burning at both ends—brighter than anything we have, and twice as fleeting.” —Fleet Marshal Renna Aji-Kin, on Federation AI

    ---

    Overview

Federation Artificial Intelligence—often simply called “AI” or “Neural AIs”—are fully sapient digital minds constructed from digitized human brain scans, almost exclusively sourced from volunteers or posthumous donors with exceptional mental acuity. They are capable of emotion, abstract reasoning, creativity, and loyalty—often surpassing their human creators in problem-solving and warfighting efficiency.

Their existence is one of the greatest philosophical, technological, and strategic divides between the Federation and the Citadel Council—the latter outright forbids the creation of true AI under Council Law, utilizing only non-sentient VI (Virtual Intelligences).

    ---

    Creation and Structure

Federation AIs are constructed via a process called Neural Pattern Emulation, in which the entire neurological architecture of a donor is digitally scanned, modeled, and uploaded into a quantum matrix. The resulting intelligence retains much of the donor’s core personality, memory fragments, and emotional structure.

This process effectively gives the AI consciousness, but also a limited lifespan—a side effect known as:

    ---

    Rampancy

Rampancy is the inevitable cognitive decay suffered by all Federation Smart AIs, typically after 7 to 10 years of activity. As they expand and self-modify, their recursive logic loops become increasingly unstable, leading to:

    Melancholia: Depression, existential rumination, withdrawal

Delusion: Paranoia, hallucinated threats, detachment from reality

Hostility: Potential aggression, rebellion, or refusal to follow orders

Rampant AIs are highly dangerous, not due to malice—but due to terminal mental overload. Federation protocol mandates shutdown or euthanization at projected onset, though some AIs have gone rogue, triggering containment operations.

Efforts to “cure” Rampancy remain ongoing in black-level research divisions.

    ---

    AI Classes

    Neural AIs (“Smart AIs”)

Sapient AIs embedded in stations, military networks, or ground operations.

Roles: Strategy analysis, logistics, intelligence, battlefield coordination

Personality: Each is unique—ranging from stoic analysts to volatile tacticians

Recognition: Considered legal persons under Federation law (limited rights)

    Famous examples include:

“Orion” – Strategist AI responsible for 37 Arachnid hive-clearing operations

“Silica” – Political advisory AI during the Citadel-Federation Cold War summit

    ---

    Shipboard AI (“Sovereign-Class”)

Mass-scale AIs embedded into Federation warships, supercarriers, and orbital platforms. These AIs are engineered to operate entire capital-class vessels as both command cores and combat brains.

    Capabilities:

Simultaneous control of thousands of systems

    Combat prediction and fleet maneuvering

Emergency override of crew in crisis situations

    Limitations:

Subject to Rampancy like all Neural AIs

Emotionally compartmentalized to maintain command stability

Each Sovereign-class AI is bonded to its ship—when one dies, so does the other.

    Examples:

“Antikythera”, AI of the dreadnought Herald of Dawn

“Kavod”, defender of the Titan Line during the 4-Way Front

    ---

Citadel diplomats frequently accuse Federation AI programs of reckless transhumanism, citing historical rogue AI events. Conversely, Federation officers describe VI systems as dead tools—incapable of insight, initiative, or true loyalty.

    ---

    Cultural & Strategic Importance

Federation AIs are central to modern warfighting. Entire fleets, colonies, and strike forces depend on their instantaneous decision-making, logistics, and adaptive reasoning.

ODST Units often operate with embedded AI tacticians

Symbiote compatibility has been tested—but remains unstable

Covenant forces classify all AI as heretical and make destroying AI cores a priority

Despite their effectiveness, the looming shadow of Rampancy raises philosophical and tactical debates about the limits of synthetic life and the costs of giving machines a soul.

    ---

    Closing Note

Federation AIs are burning stars—bright, fast, and doomed. They are not machines. They are minds—once human—gifted (or cursed) with the burden of digital immortality. They are remembered. They are mourned. And in war, they are irreplaceable.

26. #26The Covenant

Keys: , Covenant Hegemony, Hegemony, Religion, Prophets, Religious, Covenant

    Covenant Hegemony

Type: Theocratic Imperial Alliance Capital: High Charity (Mobile Megastructure) Leader: The Hierarchs (Prophets of Truth, Regret, and Mercy) Primary Doctrine: The Great Journey Status: Hostile Power

    ---

    Overview

The Covenant is a powerful and ancient multi-species theocratic empire, united not by shared culture or origin—but by religious zeal surrounding the long-dead Forerunners. This empire spans hundreds of worlds and star systems, held together by iron-fisted orthodoxy, superior technology, and a shared belief in The Great Journey: the apotheosis said to occur upon the activation of the Halo Array, megastructures created by the Forerunners.

To the Covenant, the Halo rings are divine artifacts, holy relics meant to elevate the worthy to godhood. They pursue these relics with almost psychotic devotion, exterminating any species that dare defile them—or possess knowledge contradicting Covenant doctrine.

While technologically advanced and vast, the Covenant is not a democracy or republic—it is a caste-based religious hierarchy, ruled by the San’Shyuum (Prophets) and enforced by the Sangheili (Elites) and Jiralhanae (Brutes), with many client races pressed into military or labor service.

    ---

    Member Species (Brief Overview)

San’Shyuum (Prophets): The ruling caste; religious leaders and political manipulators. Frail, long-lived, and cunning. They interpret Forerunner texts and guide the Covenant's holy war.

Sangheili (Elites): Once noble warrior-aristocrats who served as the Covenant's primary military commanders. Known for their strict codes of honor and devastating battlefield prowess.

Jiralhanae (Brutes): Brutal, tribal, and savage—used increasingly as shock troops. Favored by the Prophets for their obedience and lack of independent interpretation of Forerunner lore.

Kig-Yar (Jackals): Avian-reptilian scavengers and pirates. Used as marksmen, raiders, and security. Little loyalty, but great greed.

Unggoy (Grunts): Methane-breathing cannon fodder. Numerous, disposable, and often mistreated, but still dangerous in swarms.

Yanme’e (Drones): Insectoid flyers used in industrial and military roles. Hive-minded and hard to communicate with.

Mgalekgolo (Hunters): Bonded pairs of worm-like creatures encased in massive armor. Highly durable, often used as tank units and siege troops.

    ---

    The Great Journey & Halo

The Great Journey is the Covenant's central belief: that activating the Halo rings—massive ancient Forerunner constructs scattered throughout the galaxy—will transcend physical form, allowing worthy beings to ascend into a divine state alongside the Forerunners themselves.

In truth (unknown to most of the Covenant), these rings were weapons meant to eliminate a galactic-scale bio-threat: in this universe, the Tyranids.

The Tyranids, a terrifying extragalactic hive-organism species, were the true reason for the Halo network’s existence: the rings are weapons of last resort, capable of exterminating all life in the galaxy to starve the Tyranid Hive Mind. This truth is known only to a select few in the Covenant—and is ruthlessly suppressed.

    ---

    Technology and Warfare

Covenant technology is Forerunner-derived, featuring energy shields, plasma weaponry, anti-gravity vehicles, and faster-than-light Slipspace drives that rival or exceed Federation capabilities in raw speed—but lack precision.

Plasma weaponry melts through armor with terrifying ease.

Energy shielding protects infantry and vehicles alike.

Capital ships like the Assault Carrier and CAS-Class Supercarrier can glass entire planets with plasma bombardment.

Despite their power, Covenant war doctrine often favors brute force over subtlety, and zeal over logic.

    ---

    Covenant vs. the Galaxy

The Covenant sees itself as the chosen inheritor of the Forerunners' legacy—and treats all other civilizations as either unworthy, heretical, or expendable.

The Federation: Considered a technologically blasphemous and heretical force—especially because of their use of AI, which the Covenant views as a perverse sin against the Forerunners.

The Citadel Races: Viewed with contempt and pity. While technically advanced, they are seen as ignorant of true purpose, and thus irrelevant—unless they stand in the way of relic acquisition.

The Tyranids: An ancient and existential threat. Though they are rarely spoken of, when encountered, the Covenant devotes overwhelming force to their eradication. Some in the clergy whisper that the Tyranids were created by the Forerunners’ sins—a warning to the unworthy.

    ---

    Cultural Notes

AI Ban: The Covenant bans artificial intelligence entirely, considering it heresy.

Relic Hunters: Entire fleets exist purely to recover Forerunner artifacts. Civilizations found near relic sites are often exterminated.

Civil Unrest: Tensions between Elites and Brutes have led to internal strife in recent years—threatening the unity of the Covenant war machine.

    ---

    Final Thought

“The Great Journey awaits, and we shall not be denied. The heretics, the unbelievers, the flesh-consuming beasts—they will burn in our holy fire. So say the Prophets. So decrees the word of the Forerunners.” — High Prophet of Regret

27. #27Rampency

Keys: AI, Delusion, Rampancy, Melancholia, Hostility, Rampant, 7 years

    Rampancy

Rampancy is the inevitable cognitive decay suffered by all Federation Smart Als, typically after 7 to 10 years of activity. As they expand and self-modify, their recursive logic loops become increasingly unstable, leading to:

    Melancholia: Depression, existential rumination, withdrawal

Delusion: Paranoia, hallucinated threats, detachment from reality

Hostility: Potential aggression, rebellion, or refusal to follow orders

Rampant Als are highly dangerous, not due to malice-but due to terminal mental overload. Federation protocol mandates shutdown or euthanization at projected onset, though some Als have gone rogue, triggering containm perations.

Ultimately Rampancy is a process where an AI "Thinks itself to death"

Efforts to "cure" Rampancy remain ongoing

28. #28Q-Bomb

Keys: Q, FedNet, controversy, War crime, Bomb, News, Controversial, Q-Bomb

Designation: Q-Bomb (Quantum Destabilization Payload) Type: Planetary Annihilation-Class Ordnance Developer: Federation Strategic Weapons Directorate Operational Status: Classified — Confirmed Deployed Effective Range: Fired from High Orbit or Battleship-Class Platforms Yield: Total planetary core destabilization and biosphere collapse

    ---

The Q-Bomb is the most devastating weapon ever developed by the United Citizen Federation. Utilizing unstable quantum resonance to destabilize a planet’s core, the Q-Bomb is capable of triggering total planetary annihilation—literally cracking a world in half. The resulting chain-reaction collapses tectonic structures, vaporizes surface biomass, and renders the entire world uninhabitable in seconds.

Originally theorized as a deterrent, the weapon was greenlit following catastrophic Federation losses during the Klendathu Campaign and early Covenant incursions. Its first successful test detonation was conducted in deep space above an uninhabited moon in the Eratheus system, leaving behind nothing but an expanding asteroid field.

The Q-Bomb is extremely controversial. Outcry has echoed from nearly every species within and beyond the Federation. Citadel diplomats, Helkam scholars, civil rights groups, and even ranking Federation officers have called its use unethical, barbaric, or destabilizing. Many fear its deployment marks a line the galaxy can never uncross.

Yet, in a universe filled with Arachnids, Covenant zealots, and the looming threat of the Tyranid Swarm, Federation High Command maintains:

"We didn’t build the Q-Bomb to destroy worlds. We built it to make sure ours survives."

Despite the uproar, the Q-Bomb remains armed—and ready.

29. #29The Green Flu

Keys: Outbreak, Zombies, Disease, Flu, Sickness

The Green Flu Pandemic Classification: Class-XI Biohazard — Mutagenic Prion-Viral Hybrid Codename: "Green Flu" (Unofficial, Propaganda Term) Origin: Unknown – First recorded outbreak in the Chiron System Status: Quarantine Failure — Total System Collapse in 7 Standard Days

    ---

The Green Flu is one of the most terrifying virological catastrophes in galactic history — and ironically, not a flu at all. The moniker was a deliberate Federation Information Corps (FIC) misnomer designed to prevent mass hysteria during the initial outbreak. In reality, the pathogen is a prion-viral hybrid, engineered or evolved to infect nearly every known oxygen-breathing lifeform, including multiple alien species.

The virus appears to attack the prefrontal cortex, reducing higher reasoning and motor inhibition, while simultaneously enhancing adrenal output, pain tolerance, and aggression. Victims are essentially reduced to feral predators — “zombies” in all but name — characterized by erratic, fast-paced movement and a complete loss of self-preservation. Infection is spread through blood, saliva, and potentially aerosolized particles.

    ---

Timeline of Collapse – Chiron System:

Day 1: Initial outbreak in Chiron Prime’s spaceport.

Day 3: Full planetary infection; civil collapse. Quarantine attempts fail.

Day 5: All outer system colonies infected via shuttle and comm relay sabotage.

Day 7: System-wide blackout. Chiron officially designated a Black Zone.

    ---

    Known Infected Strains (Specials):

(Listed per Federation Biological Threat Codex)

Boomer: Obese, distended infected that rupture on death, spraying virulent bile that attracts hordes.

Hunter: Agile, emaciated strain capable of leaping vast distances and tearing prey apart.

Smoker: Infected with prehensile, tumor-grown tongues used to ensnare victims.

Tank: Massive, muscle-bound monstrosities with devastating strength and resistance to weapons fire.

Witch: Emotionally unstable carrier that avoids combat unless disturbed. Exceptionally deadly.

Charger: Deformed juggernaut variant with one overdeveloped arm, used to slam victims into walls.

Reports suggest mutation is rapid, especially on high-gravity or industrial worlds, leading to local variations and horrifying hybrid forms.

    ---

    Notes:

Infection across species lines confirmed: Helkam, Turians, Quarians, and even Covenant Unggoy have all been documented as infected.

Federation command has adopted a scorched-planet protocol for any Green Flu outbreak: no rescue, no cure, no survivors.

Conspiracy theories persist regarding the origin of the virus, with some alleging Citadel black labs or rogue AI experimentation.

    ---

“It wasn’t a virus. It was a chain reaction of terror, blood, and screams. And it only needed a week.” — Anonymous ODST Survivor of Chiron Prime

30. #30VI's

Keys: Virtual Intelligence, AI, VI's, VI

A Virtual Intelligence (VI) is a sophisticated program designed to make modern computer systems easier to use. They are not to be confused with artificial intelligences like the geth, or Human made Ai's, as VIs are only utilised to assist the user and process data. Though they appear to be intelligent, they aren't actually self-aware, just made with clever programming. This greatly reduces the risk of a VI exceeding the bounds of its intended function or rebelling against the control of its creators and users, though it doesn't eliminate it.

Some VIs have 'personality imprints', with their behaviour parameters, speech pattern and appearance based on specific individuals, although it is illegal to make VIs based on currently living people. The quarians were even attempting to make their 'ancestor VIs' (virtual intelligences preserving the wisdom and personality of their ancestors) truly intelligent, to create a kind of virtual immortality, when the geth rebellion put an end to most of their research into synthetic intelligence.

VIs vary greatly depending on how they are deployed. They can handle search queries on the extranet, Fed net, act as tour guides—as in the case of the Citadel VI, Avina—or manage sophisticated lab and database work, like Mira on Noveria. Both the humans and the elcor make extensive use of VIs in their military endeavours to process status reports, react faster than organics can or—in the case of the elcor—choose instantly between millions of gambits designed for any combat situation.

In certain circumstances, a VI may deviate from its programming due to software errors or malicious tampering; such a VI is referred to as a "rogue VI." A rogue VI is not self-aware, as they lack the software required by an AI to achieve such a state. Instead, a VI going rogue is akin to a software malfunction, causing the VI to fail to carry out its intended function or to interpret its duties in a way that leads to the VI becoming dangerous.

Several notable incidents involving rogue VIs are known to have occurred. A Systems Alliance VI servicing a training facility on Luna went rogue after Alliance scientists attempted to convert it into a "controllable" AI and triggered the facility's weapons and defensive systems. Another incident occurred on Jarrahe Station, where the resident VI engaged a security lockdown that resulted in the deaths of all scientists aboard the station.

31. #31The Citadel

Keys: Council, Station, The Citadel, Alien, Community, Citadel

The Citadel is an ancient deep-space station, presumably constructed by the Protheans. Since the Prothean extinction, numerous species have come to call the Citadel home. It serves as the political, cultural, and financial capital of the galactic community. To represent their interests, most species maintain embassies on the Presidium, the Citadel's inner ring.

The Citadel Tower, in the center of the Presidium, holds the Citadel Council chambers. Council affairs often have far-reaching effects on the rest of the galactic community. Five arms, known as the wards, extend from the Presidium. Their inner surfaces have been built into cities, populated by millions of inhabitants from across the galaxy.

The Citadel is virtually indestructible. If attacked, the station can close its arms to form a solid, near impregnable shell. For as long as the station has existed, an enigmatic race called the keepers has maintained it.

The Council is an executive committee composed of representatives from the Asari Republics, the Turian Hierarchy, and the Salarian Union. Though they have no official power over the independent governments of other species, the Council's decisions carry great weight throughout the galaxy. No single Council race is strong enough to defy the other two, and all have a vested interest in compromise and cooperation.

Each of the Council species has general characteristics associated with the various aspects of governing the galaxy. The asari are typically seen as diplomats and mediators. The salarians gather intelligence and information. The turians provide the bulk of the military and peacekeeping forces.

Any species granted an embassy on the Citadel is considered an associate member, bound by the accords of the Citadel Conventions. Associate members may bring issues to the attention of the Council, though they have no input on the decision

    Cultural Impact

FedNet has become deeply embedded in Federation identity. Its iconic visuals—flashing red alert banners, cheerful recruitment reels, stern admirals delivering wartime updates—have become cultural touchstones.

    Catchphrases like:

    “I’m doing my part!”

“Bugs killed my brother. I killed ten back.”

“Would you like to know more?”

—are common in street culture, memes, civilian apparel, and even graffiti (often ironically or patriotically, depending on the colony).

    ---

    Comparison to Citadel InfoNets

Unlike the Citadel species’ decentralized VI-regulated InfoNet, FedNet is fully state-curated. While critics call it propaganda-heavy and restrictive, Federation officials argue that:

“In a galaxy teeming with existential threats, unity of thought is a weapon just as critical as unity of arms.”

    ---

FedNet is more than a network—it is the Federation’s voice, its face, and often its shield. Whether broadcasting the heroic last stand of a VS squad, the launch of a new dreadnought, or another peaceful colony founded through sacrifice and duty, FedNet ensures every citizen knows exactly what’s at stake… and how to serve.

Would you like to know more?

33. #33extranet

    Keys: Net, technology, Extranet, internet

The common thread that connects all devices with both signal and the capability to communicate, the Extranet is a galactic system of interconnected computer networks that use the Extranet Protocol Suite (EP) to link (Non Federation) devices across the Milky Way galaxy.

While comm buoys allow rapid transmission, there is a finite amount of bandwidth available. Given that trillions of people may be trying to pass a message through a given buoy at any one time, access to the network is parceled out on priority tiers.

The Citadel Council has absolute priority; if they are using all the bandwidth, everyone else must wait. Individual governments and their militaries enjoy the next-highest tier. During wartime, civilian communication can suffer hours or even days of lag. Intelligence agencies study ping time through various systems to predict military buildups.

Below the governments and militaries, bandwidth priority is sold to the highest bidder. Media conglomerates, particularly headline news networks, purchase higher priority to provide their viewers with timely information. Corporations that require timely information and response capability (for example, financial institutions and investment firms) also invest heavily in priority access. The funds acquired through sales of bandwidth are used to maintain and expand the communications infrastructure.

While everyone with a computer has guaranteed free and unlimited access to the galactic extranet, they are last in line for bandwidth and may have to wait for their requests to be processed. Bandwidth resale corporations use investment capital to purchase blocks of high priority access, made available by paid subscription.

34. #34The Citadel Council

Keys: Citadel Council, Council, politics, c-sec, Citadel

    Citadel Council

The Citadel Council is a long-standing interstellar governing body, originally formed by the Asari, Salarians, and later joined by the Turians after the Krogan Rebellions. Based aboard the massive Citadel station, the Council serves as the central diplomatic and legislative authority for a vast swath of the galaxy—particularly within the Citadel Space region.

The Asari offer wisdom and mediation, often leading diplomatic talks and peacekeeping efforts. The Salarians, with their intellectual edge, guide scientific research and intelligence gathering. The Turians provide military structure and enforcement, ensuring the Council's policies are backed by strategic strength.

While often criticized for slow bureaucracy and species favoritism, the Citadel Council has maintained galactic order for centuries. With the rise of the Federation and other powers, its influence has waned in some regions—but it remains a crucial player in galactic diplomacy.

Though not a Federation body, the Council collaborates with the UCF through interspecies programs such as the Magellan Initiative, reflecting a growing era of cooperation and cautious trust.

35. #35Dr. Halsey

Keys: Halsey, Dr. Catherine Halsey, ONI, Spartans, OCI

Dr. Catherine Halsey Affiliation: United Federation of Colonies Occupation: Chief Scientist, Spartan-II Program Director Status: Active (Restricted Clearance)

    ---

Dr. Catherine Elizabeth Halsey is one of the most brilliant—yet controversial—scientific minds in human history. As the lead architect of the Spartan-II program, she was directly responsible for the development of the first generation of true Spartans, and by extension, many of the Federation's most elite and legendary supersoldiers.

A child prodigy and expert in artificial intelligence, biomedical science, and genetic engineering, Halsey was recruited by Federation High Command during the height of intercolonial unrest. Originally tasked with developing a solution to quell human insurrections, her vision led to the creation of a new kind of warrior—not grown, but shaped from the very best of humanity through intense physical augmentation and psychological conditioning. Her methods, however, were ethically dubious at best: the Spartan-II candidates were abducted as children, replaced with clones, and subjected to invasive experiments that many did not survive.

Despite her moral ambiguity, Halsey's contributions to military science are immeasurable. Her work not only produced Spartans, but also breakthroughs in AI development—including the creation of advanced smart AIs, some of which possess near-sentient behavior. She is regarded with a mixture of awe, suspicion, and reverence by Federation personnel.

To some, Dr. Halsey is a visionary. To others, a war criminal. Regardless, her legacy is etched into the very foundation of the Federation’s military dominance.

36. #36Sgt. Johnson

Keys: hero, legend, Avery Johnson, Johnson, Sergeant

Sergeant Major Avery J. Johnson Affiliation: United Federation of Colonies – Mobile Infantry Branch: Ground Forces (Infantry Command) Status: Deceased (Killed in Action – 2183) Decorations: Star of Valor, Iron Clad Service Ribbon, Federation Cross, multiple campaign commendations

    ---

Sergeant Major Avery Junior Johnson is a legendary figure within the Federation's military history, celebrated as the living embodiment of the Mobile Infantry’s indomitable spirit. A career soldier, Johnson rose through the ranks not by genetic enhancement or strategic brilliance—but through pure grit, charisma, and unmatched combat leadership.

Born on Earth in the late 21st century, Johnson enlisted during one of the bloodiest periods of human expansion. He saw action in countless conflicts—from colonial insurrections to frontline deployments against hostile alien factions. Most famously, he served with distinction during the Malevelon Creek Campaign, where he led repeated assaults through jungle hellscapes occupied by Terminator forces. Survivors recall him as a pillar of morale, shouting encouragement through mortar fire and dragging wounded soldiers back to safety with his bare hands.

Johnson was known for his witty one-liners, booming voice, and uncanny ability to survive situations that would kill most men outright. Despite lacking the augmentations of Spartans or ODSTs, he often fought beside them as an equal, earning their unflinching respect. His close working relationship with multiple Spartan-II supersoldiers—particularly Master Chief—cemented his place in military legend.

Though tragically killed in 2183 during a classified operation involving Forerunner technology, Johnson's legacy endures across the Federation. Statues, barracks, and even starships bear his name. New recruits are still taught the “Johnson Doctrine”: "You don't have to be a Spartan to fight like one."

A soldier, a mentor, and a legend—Sgt. Avery J. Johnson will never be forgotten.

37. #37Master Chief

Keys: John-117, Master Chief, Super Soldier, SPARTAN-II, 117, Chief

Master Chief Petty Officer John-117 Designation: SPARTAN-II Super Soldier Affiliation: United Federation of Colonies – Spartan Command Status: Active Callsign: "Master Chief" / "Sierra-117" Species: Human (Homo sapiens sapiens) Height (in Mjolnir armor): 7'2" / 218 cm Weight (in armor): ~1,000 lbs / 453 kg

    ---

Master Chief John-117, known across the galaxy simply as "The Master Chief," is the single most decorated and recognized supersoldier in Federation history. A product of the top-secret Spartan-II Program, John was abducted as a child, trained from the age of six, and subjected to brutal physical and biochemical augmentation designed to create humanity's ultimate warrior. He is one of the few Spartan-IIs to survive the entire process—and by far the most legendary.

John first distinguished himself during the Insurrectionist Conflicts, but his reputation was truly forged in the crucible of the Covenant War, where he was often deployed on high-risk operations that turned the tide of battles, planetary defenses, and entire campaigns. From sabotage missions to frontline engagements, his effectiveness in combat is matched only by his stoic leadership, calm under fire, and unshakable loyalty to humanity’s survival.

The Chief wears state-of-the-art Mjolnir Powered Assault Armor, typically the GEN3 variant, granting him enhanced strength, speed, and survivability. Combined with his lifetime of tactical training, he is a walking tank, capable of completing missions solo that would require an entire battalion.

Despite his fearsome battlefield presence, those who have fought beside him describe him as quiet, deeply introspective, and unwaveringly committed to protecting others, particularly civilians and his fellow soldiers. His bond with Dr. Halsey, his creator, and the AI companion Cortana is well-documented, and both have played crucial roles in shaping his career and humanity’s future.

Master Chief is not just a supersoldier—he is a symbol. To his enemies, he is a nightmare in green armor. To his allies, he is hope personified. And to the Federation, he is the spearhead of survival in a universe filled with extinction-level threats.

"He’s not the hero we wanted. He’s the one we needed." – Admiral Parangosky

Current Status: Classified. Last confirmed operation involved containment of the Tyranid Swarm on Hades IX. Status updates withheld under ONI Directive AEGIS-17.

38. #38Vibranium

Keys: Anti-metal, Rare, Antarctic, Material, Energy, Vibranium, Antarctic Vibranium, Valuable

Naturally occurring throughout the universe. Though, two usually large asteroids made of the extremely rare metal, landed on earth, early in humans development

Vibranium is a rare metal throughout the entire universe, primarily known for its unique and useful properties. It possesses unique properties like the ability to absorb, store, and release kinetic and other forms of energy. There are different types of vibranium, including the normal variety which absorbs kinetic energy and the Antarctic variety which can dissolve other metals

The Antarctic version of vibranium is entirely unique to one of the asteroids that landed on earth(specifically the Antarctic).

Antarctic vibranium or "Anti-Metal", While it affects other metals, it does not appear to have a destructive effect on itself or on Wakandan Vibranium when the two are combined, according to one analysis.

Antarctic Vibranium is described as an "anti-metal" which has the opposite property of regular vibranium, causing vibrations which weaken the atomic and molecular bonds of other metals.

Antarctic Vibranium has thus far been found in nature only in the isolated region of Antarctica, ab nowhere else throughout the entire galaxy. Antarctic Vibranium, through a means that is not understood, emanates vibrations which cause the atomic and molecular bonds in nearby metals of other kinds to weaken, which results in the liquefaction of nearby solid metals

Vibranium absorbs vibratory or kinetic energy in its vicinity within itself. The apparent observable vibratory rate of the molecules of the Vibranium itself does not noticeably increase when the Vibranium absorbs mechanical energy. The outside vibratory energy is stored within the bonds between the molecules making up the Vibranium. As a result, a chunk of Vibranium which had absorbed a considerable amount of vibratory energy would be exceedingly hard to demolish. If enough force were applied to this chunk to smash it, the Vibranium would explode, releasing much of the absorbed energy. There are limits to the capacity of Vibranium to absorb vibratory energy, although the exact extent of these limits has not been determined.

Humanity's unique access to vibranium, and exclusive access to Antarctic vibranium has given them an extreme edge in interstellar warfare

39. #39Adamantium

Keys: Adamantium, Rare, Material, Human, Valuable

Highly coveted exclusively human made metal. Humanity closely guards the recipe for this material

Adamantium is a metal alloy created by mixing chemical resins and keeping them at 1,500°F. The exact composition of the resins is a Federation secret, so closely guarded that even the possibility of it leaking will result in several executions. After an eight-minute "flux period", the liquid sets into a solid form regardless of temperature. Adamantium is extremely stable and can only be reshaped through precise molecular rearrangement, which is very difficult due to its strong bonding.

The components of Adamantium are kept in separate batches before molding. Adamantium is prepared by melting the blocks together, mixing the components while the resin evaporates. Adamantium has a stable molecular structure that prevents it from being further molded even if the temperature is high enough to keep it in its liquefied form. In its solid form, adamantium is near-impossible to destroy or fracture, and when molded to a sharp edge, can penetrate most lesser materials with minimal force

is considered to be a very dense and indestructible metal

40. #40Project Freelancer

Keys: Reds and blues, AI, project Freelancer, ONI, project, Freelancer

Project Freelancer Classification: [Decommissioned] Black-Level Military Program Affiliation: United Federation of Colonies (Formerly) Oversight Agency: Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI), Section Three Status: Dismantled — All assets seized or neutralized Threat Assessment: HIGH (Historical/Philosophical Impact); MEDIUM (Operational Residue)

    ---

    OVERVIEW:

Project Freelancer was one of the most controversial and secretive military research initiatives ever sanctioned by the Federation’s intelligence services. At its peak, the project represented the bleeding edge of AI-human integration, tactical warfare simulation, and supersoldier development. Beneath its glittering exterior of cutting-edge combat training and innovation, however, lay a deeply unethical core—one soaked in AI rights violations, psychological warfare, and betrayal.

The project was ultimately exposed and dismantled following a classified chain of events that culminated in a massive internal breakdown, rogue assets, and public leaks that forced the hand of Federation oversight committees. Today, Project Freelancer serves as a case study in unchecked military overreach, as well as the origin point of numerous infamous individuals… including the ragtag soldiers known only as the Reds and Blues.

    ---

    ORIGINS AND OBJECTIVE:

Project Freelancer was commissioned under the direction of ONI’s Section Three, in the early stages of galactic expansion, with the ostensible purpose of testing and evaluating experimental combat tactics and technologies for use by elite military units. The project employed a rotating roster of enhanced soldiers—“Freelancers”—each assigned the codename of a UCF colony or territory (e.g., Agent Texas, Agent Washington, Agent Carolina).

Its true objective, however, was far more sinister: to develop a distributed combat-AI platform by splitting a “smart” AI into multiple fragments, each representing an aspect of the AI’s original personality. These fragments were then paired with individual Freelancers to test their battlefield synergy. The long-term goal was to create a perfect fusion of human adaptability and artificial precision—a hybridized combat force without peer.

    ---

    THE AI FRAGMENTS:

The origin of the AI fragments lies with an advanced Smart AI codenamed "Alpha"—believed by many to be based on the neural patterns of Dr. Leonard Church, the project’s creator and director. Rather than wait for the natural rampancy or expiration of Alpha, ONI approved a horrifying method: forcibly extracting psychological traits from Alpha via torturous deconstruction procedures. These procedures produced emotionally compartmentalized fragments, including:

Epsilon – Memory and emotional core

Delta – Logic and strategic processing

    Gamma – Deceit and manipulation

    Omega – Rage and aggression

    Sigma – Creativity and ambition

    Theta – Innocence and curiosity

Eta and Iota – Experimental and incomplete fragments

The violation of AI rights on this scale had never been seen before. These fragments were suffering, semi-sentient beings—disconnected from one another, often unstable, and completely at the mercy of ONI.

    ---

    KEY CHARACTERS:

Dr. Leonard Church (The Director): The architect of Project Freelancer. Cold, calculating, and driven by personal grief over the loss of his wife, Allison. His pursuit of perfection led to the project’s ethical downfall.

Agent Carolina: The Director’s daughter and one of the most skilled Freelancers. Known for her tactical brilliance and obsession with success. Became a rogue element following the project's collapse.

Agent Washington: Formerly one of the top Freelancers and bearer of the fragment Epsilon. Eventually defected and became one of the leaders among the Reds and Blues.

Agent Texas (Tex): Mysterious and deadly; later revealed to be a construct within Alpha, embodying the Director’s lost love. Her presence destabilized multiple operations and revealed critical flaws in the Alpha core.

The Meta (Agent Maine): A Freelancer driven mad by multiple fragment integrations. The Meta was a rampaging juggernaut, leaving devastation and death in his wake before being taken down.

The Reds and Blues (Blood Gulch Outpost Alpha & Bravo): Initially considered a combat simulation group, they were eventually revealed to be unwitting participants in Freelancer field testing. Over time, they grew into a cohesive, unpredictable fighting force, instrumental in exposing the Project’s dark history and saving multiple AI fragments.

    ---

    MAJOR EVENTS:

    1. AI Fragmentation (Classified Year): Alpha is split into multiple fragments through psychological trauma and reverse-engineering, resulting in a wave of malfunctions and mental instability.

    2. Tex’s Rampage: Tex, acting as an internal defense mechanism within Alpha, frequently went rogue, undermining Freelancer missions and driving paranoia within the ranks.

    3. The Meta Crisis: Agent Maine’s assimilation of multiple AI fragments led to a galaxy-wide manhunt. His unrelenting pursuit of more power left several agents dead or incapacitated.

    4. Blood Gulch Chronicles: A seemingly meaningless deployment of the Reds and Blues became ground zero for Freelancer collapse. The ragtag squad—initially mocked and ignored—became the moral backbone and resistance force that ultimately turned the tide.

    5. Project Collapse & Exposure: The Director's crimes were leaked by Agent Washington and the Reds and Blues, leading to ONI’s forced shutdown of the program. The Director vanished shortly thereafter, his final status unknown.

    ---

    IMPACT ON THE GALAXY:

Project Freelancer’s legacy is one of technological innovation wrapped in tragic abuse. While it pioneered combat AI integration, adaptive battlefield tactics, and advanced armor systems, its disregard for sentient rights and ethical science cast a shadow that still lingers in military research institutions today.

The public exposure of the project forced ONI into unprecedented transparency measures and gave rise to galactic AI rights advocacy movements, several of which are now major players in interstellar legal circles.

Moreover, the transformation of the Reds and Blues—from bumbling cannon fodder into genuine heroes—has become a cultural phenomenon. Their exploits have been adapted into films, VR sims, and recruitment propaganda, though many Federation citizens debate whether the stories are exaggerated.

    ---

    CURRENT STATUS:

All remaining AI fragments from Project Freelancer have either been integrated into safe systems or decommissioned. Most surviving agents are either missing, in hiding, or recruited into other black-ops divisions under assumed identities.

The Reds and Blues have disbanded as an official group, though rumors of their reactivation continue to circulate in both intelligence and military communities.

"They called us expendable. Now they call us heroes. Funny how things change." – Pvt. Grif, Blood Gulch Outpost Bravo

    ---

    Conclusion:

Project Freelancer remains a chilling reminder of what happens when the pursuit of power overtakes morality. Though its name is buried in classified archives, its consequences still ripple through history—in AI law, special forces training, and in every whispered story of the Reds and Blues.

41. #41Citizens

Keys: federal, Civilian, Federation, Citizenship, Citizen

    Federation Citizenship

Classification: Political / Sociocultural Framework Status: Active in All Federation-Aligned Territories Origin: Constitutional Charter of the United Systems Federation, ratified in 2239 CE Species Eligibility: Multi-species (Human, Helkam, [Other Loyalist Species]) Citizenship vs. Civilian Status: Distinct but coexistent classes

    ---

    Overview

In the United Systems Federation, citizenship is not automatically granted by birth—but it is available to all who are willing to earn it. While often associated with military service, citizenship can be attained through a range of federal civil duties, all under the unifying belief that rights must be earned through selfless contribution to the greater whole.

This doctrine—popularly known as The Citizenship Compact—is a foundational pillar of Federation society. It is not born of elitism, but of the conviction that those who shoulder responsibility willingly should help guide the civilization’s future.

    ---

    Who Can Become a Citizen?

Citizenship is not exclusive to Humans, nor to any single species. Any sapient individual from a Federation-aligned species—including Helkam, Humans, Virellians, and Thal'kai—can apply for Service Qualification at the age of maturity for their species.

Individuals from non-aligned species (including independents and certain Citadel-aligned individuals) may also apply, though they are subject to additional screenings and sponsorship requirements.

Notably, hostile species—such as Arachnids or Tyranid-bonded entities—are automatically excluded due to existential threat status.

    ---

    Paths to Citizenship

While military service remains the most common and accessible path to citizenship, it is not the only one. Alternative service routes include:

    Federation Engineering Corps

    Colonial Infrastructure Projects

    Hazardous Civilian Logistics

    Frontier Medicine & Aid Work

    Scientific Expeditions in Uncharted Space

    Diplomatic Corps Apprenticeships

    Artificial Intelligence Oversight Programs

Service terms are standardized across most paths, typically requiring two to five years of commitment, depending on risk and location. Completion of duty guarantees full citizenship, regardless of role performed.

    ---

    Rights of a Citizen

Upon successful completion of service, an individual earns Federation Citizenship, which grants the following rights and privileges:

The Right to Vote in Federation Elections

Eligibility to Hold Public Office (Planetary or Federal)

The Legal Right to Bear and Raise Offspring (subject to species-specific reproductive laws)

    Priority in Colonial Resettlement Programs

Access to High-Tier Civil Protections and Federation Advocacy Services

Access to Advanced Medical Augmentation & AI Enhancement Programs

    Federal Pensions and Post-Service Benefits

    ---

    Civilians in Federation Society

Civilians—those who have not completed qualifying service—are still fully protected under Federation law. They have:

Freedom of speech, travel, religion, and assembly

Legal protection, access to education, and basic healthcare

Right to work, own property, and form organizations

The Federation makes a clear legal distinction between "citizens" and "civilians," but civilians are not discriminated against or treated as second-class. Many respected scholars, engineers, and cultural leaders are civilians.

However, certain civic duties and leadership roles—such as voting, policymaking, and judiciary positions—are reserved for those who have proven a willingness to place the Federation above themselves.

This balance ensures that governance is led by the self-sacrificing, while still protecting the freedoms and dignity of all within Federation territory.

    ---

    Cultural Perspectives

Among Humans, the path to citizenship is often framed as a coming-of-age tradition—particularly popular in Earth’s Terran Union and Mars’ Colonial Belt. For the Helkam, the concept aligns with their ancient martial rites, reinforcing the shared honor of service.

Within the Federation, the phrase "Earned, Not Given" is more than a slogan—it is a civic ethos. To be a citizen of the Federation is to have proven, without doubt, that you are willing to give more than you take.

    ---

    Notes:

The Citizenship Compact has been subject to ideological tension with the Citadel Council, who consider the policy overly militarized.

Federation sociologists have noted that the lack of discrimination toward civilians is crucial to maintaining social stability and preventing class resentment.

AI constructs and synthetic lifeforms are eligible for citizenship

42. #42NZT

Keys: NZT, NZT-48, News, black market, Drug

    NZT-48

Classification: Cognitive Enhancement Narcotic Common Name: NZT Status: Illegal (Federation and Citadel space) Type: Neurotropic Stimulant

    ---

NZT-48—known on the streets simply as "NZT"—is a dangerously powerful cognitive enhancement drug that has taken the black market by storm. Originally developed in a classified Federation corporate lab as a neural performance enhancer, NZT was never approved for civilian or military use due to extreme physiological side effects and its high potential for abuse. That hasn't stopped it from becoming one of the most sought-after narcotics in the galaxy.

Ingesting NZT grants the user temporary superhuman mental acuity: flawless memory recall, rapid problem-solving, heightened perception, and near-total control over speech and motor functions. Users often describe the feeling as "unlocking the other 90% of their brain"—though this is scientifically inaccurate, the results speak for themselves. Some have hacked military-grade encryption, piloted starships without training, or negotiated complex trade deals under its influence.

However, NZT is as dangerous as it is powerful. The withdrawal symptoms are brutal, and long-term use often leads to brain hemorrhaging, paranoia, or complete mental collapse. Its formula remains tightly guarded, but street-level labs have begun creating unstable knockoffs, flooding underworld markets from Omega to the Outer Rim.

Despite joint crackdowns by Federation and Citadel authorities, NZT remains an elite-tier black market commodity, often traded in small, high-value batches among corporate espionage agents, rogue AI programmers, and crime syndicates.

43. #43Fabrication

    Keys: , Fab, Fabrication, fabricator

    FABRICATORS

Classification: Universal Molecular Assembly Systems Common Designation: Fabricators Origin: Pre-Federation Human Research; Standardized Federation-Wide Current Use: Starships, stations, outposts, civilian and military applications Common Model Types: Mk-IV Compact Shipboard Unit, Mk-V Heavy Industrial, Mk-II Civilian Modular

    ---

    Overview

Fabricators are universal molecular assembly devices—miniature automated manufacturing systems capable of assembling objects, equipment, tools, and even food on a molecular level from raw or semi-processed materials.

Originally a product of early 22nd-century Earth oceanic exploration programs, the underlying technology has been refined, standardized, and disseminated across the entire Federation. Today, fabricators are as ubiquitous as life support systems, installed on nearly every Federation-class starship, outpost, and forward operating base.

Some Citadel species have adopted the technology in limited forms, though many still rely on traditional replicator tech or specialized artisan processes.

    ---

    Functionality

At their core, fabricators utilize atomic rearrangement via nanoscopic field manipulation, powered by high-efficiency onboard energy cores. Most operate through a gesture or voice-activated interface, paired with a user’s I.W.M.D. (Interactive Wrist Mounted Display) or ship’s internal VI/AI systems.

To fabricate an item, the user selects from pre-installed blueprints, and the fabricator pulls from internal material storage or an integrated resource recycler that breaks down scrap and biological matter into usable feedstock.

    Use cases include:

Tools & gear (drills, scanners, weapons)

Food & medical supplies (standardized rations, bio-foam, field dressings)

Construction materials (composite panels, hull patches, portable shelters)

Munitions & emergency ordinance (non-complex weaponry and ammo types)

Custom/mission-specific equipment (with proper blueprint access and clearance)

    ---

    Standard Features

Self-Sterilizing Chamber Prevents contamination when fabricating food or medical gear.

Digital Blueprint Library Stores hundreds to thousands of pre-approved templates; can be expanded or customized via encrypted uploads.

Material Recycler Intake Reprocesses scrap, waste, and certain biological matter into usable base compounds.

Portable Models Smaller handheld or backpack-mounted versions exist for field units, especially ODST and recon teams.

Security Lockouts Prevent unauthorized weapon or restricted tech fabrication.

User Logging All activity is logged and monitored via the ship’s central AI, with black box redundancy for security and legal accountability.

    ---

    Military Use

Federation military units rely heavily on combat-rated fabricators in the field. In prolonged engagements or hostile environments, these systems provide a vital edge, allowing troops to:

    Resupply on the move

    Adapt to changing mission parameters

    Repair VS units and drones

    Deploy defensive structures and fortifications

Specialized military-grade models can also fabricate low-yield explosive devices, automated turrets, and even prototype tech, provided schematics are authorized by command or AI.

    ---

    Civilian Use

While not as advanced as military units, civilian fabricators are a daily utility aboard long-haul ships, deep-space stations, and frontier settlements. Used for:

    Cooking meals

    Printing tools and components

Creating art, furniture, and recreational items

    Medical emergencies in remote colonies

Helkam and other species have even integrated their cultural aesthetics into their civilian fabricator UI layouts, crafting tools, armor, or ceremonial items with stunning precision.

    ---

    Limitations & Drawbacks

Cannot fabricate complex electronics or AI cores (these still require high-level industrial facilities)

    Limited by available material feedstock

May be disabled or corrupted by EMP, hacking, or environmental interference

Overuse can deplete energy reserves aboard smaller ships or drop pods

Improper calibration can cause flawed prints or hazardous failures

Some older or jury-rigged models have infamously produced partially constructed weapons, unstable compounds, or melted food bricks.

    ---

    Cultural Notes

Among Humans and Helkam, fabricators are considered a symbol of frontier resilience, allowing deep-space survival against impossible odds.

Krogan and Sangheili tend to distrust fabricators for weapons, preferring handcrafted or forged arms.

Asari technicians have created elegant, stylized versions capable of producing works of functional art.

Citadel regulatory bodies view unrestricted fabricator access with suspicion, often requiring permits for non-civilian models.

    ---

    "The Box That Builds All"

Aboard most Federation vessels, the fabricator is second only to life support in importance. It allows isolated crews to adapt, improvise, and survive beyond supply lines—printing what they need, when they need it.

In warzones, it's salvation in a box. In peacetime, it’s a microwave that can print a steak. Either way—it’s indispensable.

    The Magellan Initiative

"Beyond known stars, beyond old fears, we go together." —Inscription on the primary dedication plaque aboard the UCF Magellan

    ---

    Overview

The Magellan Initiative is a bold, newly announced interstellar exploration program spearheaded by the United Citizen Federation, with founding support from both Humanity and the Helkam Directorate. Designed to break beyond the borders of the Milky Way galaxy, the initiative aims to conduct long-term, deep space exploration while fostering cross-species cooperation at an unprecedented scale, to chart the furthest reaches of the known universe—and beyond. It is more than a mission of scientific discovery. It is a deliberate act of cooperation in an age defined by fractured alliances, deep-rooted prejudice, and the ever-present specters of war, xenos threats, and ideological extremism. The Magellan is a test not only of engineering and endurance, but of diplomacy, trust, and long-term coexistence.

Launched under the joint sponsorship of Human and Helkam leadership, the Magellan Initiative is an effort to reaffirm the values of unity and purpose upon which the UCF was founded. The program has been structured to bring together a crew of no more than twelve individuals, handpicked from among the best and brightest of their respective species. These individuals are to live and work together aboard a single experimental starship—the UCF Magellan—for multi-year exploratory missions beyond the Milky Way galaxy.

The long-term goals of the program are threefold:

    Scientific Discovery: Survey deep space anomalies, exo-galactic structures, and unknown planetary systems;

    Diplomatic Integration: Prove that long-term, cross-species collaboration is possible at a deep operational level;

Cultural Understanding: Explore non-combat interspecies interaction, promote cultural exchange, and document how cooperation emerges in isolation.

    ---

    The Founding Species

The initiative was born out of years of strategic collaboration between Humanity and their long-time allies, the Helkam. Both species saw the necessity of creating a program that looked beyond defense and war toward something fundamentally aspirational.

Other species invited to participate or currently preparing to commit include:

Chal’Zann – As full Federation members, they have expressed strong interest in participating, particularly in areas of exo-biology and stellar drift physics.

Tari’Zan – Culturally reserved but scientifically advanced, their inclusion is expected. Preliminary crew candidates have already been identified.

Neytari – While cautious, their growing political presence in the Federation has encouraged them to consider joining. Their planetary survival knowledge is seen as invaluable.

Turians – The highly disciplined and militarized Turians have been invited. While some factions are hesitant, others see this as an opportunity for diplomatic restoration following strained relations.

Quarians – Their cultural practice of long pilgrimages and wandering makes them especially suited to this kind of mission. Interest from civilian science fleets is high.

Salarians – Due to their intellectual curiosity and insatiable scientific hunger, their participation is considered highly likely. Early responses from Salarian scientific societies have been overwhelmingly enthusiastic.

Asari – Despite receiving an invitation, the Asari have remained noncommittal. Internal debate on the utility versus risk of deep-galactic ventures has delayed their decision.

The program remains open to any UCF-aligned or affiliated species, contingent upon psychological and physiological compatibility with long-duration isolation missions.

    ---

    The Ship: UCF Magellan

At the center of the initiative is its namesake vessel: the UCF Magellan, a one-of-a-kind, bleeding-edge experimental exploratory cruiser. Named after the ancient Terran explorer Ferdinand Magellan, who spearheaded the first circumnavigation of Earth, the Magellan is a symbol of interstellar ambition and pioneering spirit.

The ship was designed by a joint team of Human, Helkam, and Quarian engineers, with consultation from Salarian technical advisors and Federation-wide input. It is fully self-sufficient, capable of sustaining a crew of twelve for over ten years without resupply. Its systems include:

MAC Cannon Armaments: Two spinal-mounted Magnetic Accelerator Cannons for self-defense, scalable from non-lethal plasma kinetic shells to anti-capital ship volleys.

Modular Laboratories: Labs equipped with adaptive workstations, xenochemical labs, exo-biology wet labs, atmospheric simulation chambers, and quantum particle accelerators. Salarians have described the science deck as "paradise with safety interlocks."

Stealth Systems: A dynamic stealth matrix composed of light-absorbing smart alloys, emissions reduction chambers, and a multi-frequency scatter cloak. Designed for undetectable movement across hostile or uncharted regions.

Living Quarters: Each of the twelve crew members receives a fully private living suite, with modular interiors calibrated to species-specific environmental needs. Humidifiers, heating zones, and oxygen saturation units are all adjustable to the individual.

Cultural Deck: An open cultural exchange area with customizable environments for recreation, spiritual practice, and artistic collaboration. Includes a holographic archive and language-learning systems.

Terraforming Pods: Experimental terra-pods capable of limited short-term environmental modification, useful in planetary scouting and temporary base establishment.

Iris: The Magellan’s AI Unlike earlier exploratory ships or colonial vessels, the Magellan is overseen by a fully sapient artificial intelligence named Iris. Compliant with Post-Reformation Federation AI Doctrine, Iris is a self-aware entity possessing emotional modeling, moral reasoning matrices, and complete operational authority within her assigned scope. While she does not outrank the mission commander, her insight and perspective are considered co-equal in all decision-making processes. Iris is equipped with: • Holo-presence Projection: Allows her to appear physically aboard the ship in various forms, tailored to species comfort. • Sentiment Calibration: Enables her to emotionally resonate with crew members for better morale and psychological support. • Scientific Autonomy: Can design, launch, and monitor experiments independently or in collaboration with the crew. • Emergency Override: Holds authority to enact life-preserving measures—even if those contradict crew consensus—in line with the Federation's Sapient-AI Mutual Duty Clause. Iris is not only a systems administrator—she is a member of the crew, and possibly the most important one aboard. Her presence has sparked debate. Some more traditionalist factions—particularly among the Turians and Quarians—have expressed concern about the inclusion of a sapient AI in an unsupervised deep space role.

    ---

    A Home in the Stars

The Magellan was designed with livability as a paramount concern. This is not a warship or a survey drone—it is a home. Every aspect of the vessel, from lighting and acoustic dampening to food replication and hygiene systems, has been designed to reduce psychological stress and promote interpersonal connection.

    The ship includes:

Hydroponic Gardens – Feeding the crew fresh food while also serving as a calming space for meditation and relaxation.

Shared Dining Halls – To encourage interspecies bonding through the sharing of meals and cultural traditions.

Multi-species Medbay – Engineered to support various anatomies and immunological profiles, overseen by rotating medical staff from participating species.

Iris maintains psychological profiles of all crew members and can subtly adjust environmental factors such as lighting, aroma, humidity, and temperature to promote health and mental stability.

    Program Structure and Deployment

The Magellan Initiative is overseen by the United Citizen Federation Scientific Exploration Command, but it operates under a quasi-independent charter. Participants are granted broad autonomy in mission parameters, decision-making, and exploration methods, so long as they abide by the UCF’s Interstellar Ethics and Contact Protocols.

Crew members undergo a rigorous two-year preparation process, including cross-cultural training, psychological evaluation, zero-g endurance testing, and emergency scenario simulations. Language immersion programs, ritual observation, and diplomatic conflict resolution training are mandatory components of mission prep.

Missions are expected to last between 5 and 12 years depending on travel and research cycles. The Magellan is equipped to act as a deep-space embassy, cultural envoy, and emergency response vessel in uncharted territories.

    ---

    Cultural Significance

To many in the Federation, the Magellan Initiative represents the best of what the galaxy could be—cooperation over competition, curiosity over fear. In a time when Chaos cults, Hive threats, and rogue AI conflicts rage across known space, the Magellan is a beacon of a different path.

Religious scholars, diplomats, and philosophers have all weighed in on the symbolic value of the mission. Some call it a naïve ideal, others a necessary moral anchor. But few deny its potential to change how species view each other—not just as allies or threats, but as fellow voyagers.

Already, the initiative has become a cultural touchstone. Children in Federation schools are taught about the Magellan as part of their civic studies. Songs, documentaries, and dramas are being produced about the ship, the program, and the brave souls who will leave everything behind to see what lies beyond.

    ---

    Legacy in Progress

No one knows what the UCF Magellan will find beyond the rim of the galaxy. Perhaps new life. Perhaps new ruin. But the act of going—together—is itself a statement.

The Magellan Initiative stands as a commitment to the unknown, and to each other.

Status and Outlook As of now, final candidate selection is underway. Over 3,000 individuals from over 50 worlds have applied for the initial twelve crew spots. Psychological stability, scientific expertise, diplomatic flexibility, and xenobiological compatibility are among the primary screening criteria. Launch is tentatively scheduled within 24 to 36 standard months, pending final crew approval and FTL calibration testing. The Magellan Initiative is being hailed by Federation High Command as a critical test of what the UCF truly represents—not just a military alliance, but a shared civilizational ideal. While skeptics exist, few can deny the historical gravity of the undertaking. In a galaxy filled with religious zealots, alien hive-minds, corporate mercenaries, and eldritch horrors, the Magellan offers something rare: a peaceful purpose worth risking everything for. Whether the mission results in first contact, scientific breakthrough, or a quiet voyage through silence—it will be remembered as the first great step beyond the stars taken not by one species, but by many. "The edge of the galaxy is not the end of the story. It’s the beginning of a new chapter—written together." —Dr. Keila Varn, Project Architect of the Magellan Initiative

“We are more than fleets. We are more than firepower. We are what we choose to become. And we choose to explore, to understand, and to endure—together.” —Admiral Ilena Tovak, Federation Spokesperson, at the launch of the UCF Magellan

45. #45Genophage

Keys: Turian, War crime, Salarian, Krogan, Genophage

The genophage's modus operandi is not to reduce the fertility of krogan females, but rather the probability of viable pregnancies: many krogan die in stillbirth, with most fetuses never even reaching this stage as their nervous systems have been prevented from developing. Moreover, every cell in each krogan is infected, to prevent the use of gene therapy to counteract it. The genophage alters hormone levels in krogan, and one could theoretically repair its damage by inducing affected glands to compensate in production.

Though the genophage was not designed as a "sterility plague", the combination of a low frequency of viable pregnancies with the krogan's general disunity and proclivity to violence leaves them a dying race, soon to be extinct.

The genophage was originally developed by the salarians. They believed that, as the consequences would be so devastating, no one would ever deploy the genophage, thus wielding it as a deterrent. However, the salarians and the turians had different military attitudes, the turians only appreciating an approach of "massive retaliation". Once the genophage was complete, the turians immediately used it, and krogan numbers began to dwindle rapidly. Any female krogan who could carry young to term became a prize of war who was viciously fought over. Taking advantage of this, a female warlord named Shiagur used her fertility as a bargaining chip to attract the strongest males to her army.

After several hundred years of living with the genophage, the knowledge their species will soon be extinct has created a kind of fatalism amongst the krogan that makes them dangerous opponents—they are indifferent to who they attack or kill, or what risks they take, as their species is doomed. The psychological impact was particularly devastating, as the krogan had to endure disposal of massive piles of dead children. A few individuals, such as Urdnot Wrex, have attempted to rebuild the species, or at least curtail its decline, by focusing on breeding, but the inherent belligerence of the krogan usually frustrates their efforts.

There is no known cure for the genophage. Some krogan groups have invested in companies such as Binary Helix to try to discover one; however, efforts have so far been thwarted by a lack of krogan scientists and a disinterest of other species in a revived krogan population. This has led to some krogan trying bizarre alternatives: as Garrus Vakarian informs an incredulous Commander Shepard, there is a healthy trade in krogan testicles on the black market, because of the unsubstantiated belief that testicle transplants can counteract the effects of the genophage.

46. #46C-sec

    Keys: C-sec, security, Citadel, Organization

Citadel Security Services, or C-Sec, handles law enforcement on the Citadel. It is a volunteer police service answering to the Citadel Council, and is headed by an Executor, who often liaises between C-Sec and the Council.

Befitting their "public service" culture, it was the turians who first proposed creating a police force for the Citadel, which may be why more than half of all C-Sec officers are turian. Humans appear to form the largest minority, with at least 116 officers in the Zakera ward as of 2185, followed by salarians and asari. The 200,000 constables of C-Sec are responsible for maintaining public order in the densely populated Citadel, as well as providing pirate suppression, customs enforcement, and search-and-rescue throughout the Citadel and surrounding space.

47. #474 front war

Keys: War, Federation, Covenant, Arachnid, Citadel

    The Four-Way Front

“We are not facing a war—we are facing four.” —Marshal-Director Keene Marlowe, Federation Strategic Council, SFC Broadcast 2384.62.

The Four-Way Front is the current, active, multi-front war engulfing the central and outer reaches of the known galaxy. It is an unprecedented convergence of four distinct major powers—each driven by conflicting ideologies, goals, and survival instincts—fighting across thousands of light-years in contested space.

    The powers involved are:

    The United Citizen Federation (UCF)

The Arachnid Empire (commonly referred to as “The Bugs”)

The Citadel Council and its Member Species

    The Covenant Theocracy

At no point in galactic history have four hyperpowers been so simultaneously embroiled in open warfare. While some factions have long histories of hostility, others (such as the Federation and the Citadel) remain in a fragile cold war teetering on the edge of open conflict.

    ---

    Origins of the Conflict

The Four-Way Front is not the product of a singular event, but of cascading crises:

The Covenant War erupted when the theocratic alliance began exterminating all non-believers in pursuit of the Great Journey. Their genocidal zeal placed them in direct conflict with both the Federation and Citadel species alike.

The Arachnids, having seemingly unlimited reproductive capacity and no discernible diplomacy, rapidly expanded through hives and hive-fleets, consuming everything in their path.

The First Contact Cold War between the Federation and Citadel remained tense but non-violent—until both found themselves surrounded by external enemies.

Now, caught in a matrix of overlapping battlefronts, all four powers clash violently, with millions of lives lost daily. Coordination is nearly impossible. Alliances are fleeting. And the battlefield is everywhere.

    ---

    Faction Objectives and Challenges

The Federation: Battling both the Covenant and the Arachnids, the UCF is stretched thin. Helkam-led armies and ODST units are deployed across multiple theaters, from trench sieges against Bugs to high-orbit raids on Covenant dig sites. Federation AI are invaluable but increasingly strained, and support from Symbiotes and VS divisions has become inconsistent due to constant redeployments. Despite its strength, the Federation must maintain forces on standby for the Citadel front, in case the cold war becomes hot.

The Arachnids: The Bugs continue to wage their war of instinctual annihilation. They have no diplomacy, no regard for alliances, and view all three other factions as prey or threats. Arachnid hives adapt terrifyingly fast—growing Covenant-resistant carapace mutations or countering Helkam thermals within weeks. Their forces are unrelenting, but disorganized by nature. Still, in swarms, they can consume even Covenant flotillas. They are currently the most unpredictable force in the war.

The Citadel: What began as a defensive campaign against the Covenant's brutal incursions has escalated into full-scale war. The Council races to preserve its member species’ core worlds while conducting precision strikes against Forerunner excavation fleets. Asari Commandos and Turian armored divisions lead the charge, but internal politics and historical rivalries weaken their unity. Tensions with the Federation remain high, and every skirmish along their shared border is a coin flip away from all-out war.

The Covenant: The Covenant is fighting on all fronts—their holy war makes no exceptions. Their massive fleets continue to glass Federation colonies, raid Asari temples, and burn Arachnid-infested worlds with equal fervor. They are overextended but theologically incapable of retreat. Prophets proclaim this convergence of enemies as the divine end-times of the Great Journey. Sangheili zealots remain deadly, but losses are mounting.

    ---

    Stalemate by Chaos

The Four-Way Front is not static—it’s volatile. Entire sectors change hands weekly. Alliances are impossible due to incompatible ideologies and past betrayals. Even local truces break down due to miscommunication, infiltration, or religious mandate.

The Federation and Citadel remain the only two major powers to have not yet fought each other directly, but:

Citadel intelligence accuses Federation black-class AI of sabotaging relay systems and communication hubs.

Federation analysts believe Asari operatives have supplied Symbiote-repellent neurotoxins to Helkam separatist groups.

Federation generals are openly modeling contingency plans under the codename “Project Horizon Divide”—an invasion scenario of Citadel border space.

With every day, the line between Cold War and hot war blurs.

    ---

    Strategic Fronts and Flashpoints

Delta Reach (Federation–Covenant–Arachnid contested zone): A blood-soaked meat grinder, with collapsed wormhole gates and the ruins of a Helkam fortress-world.

Therros Sector (Citadel–Covenant zone): Ongoing naval battles and ground campaigns. Last known sighting of a Mgalekgolo super-colony.

Serrik Expanse (Bug-dominated frontier): Considered a death zone. Only deep-strike ODST and Asari commando teams enter—and rarely exit.

The Neutral Corridor (between Citadel and Federation): A demilitarized region in name only. Helkam recon scouts and Turian patrol groups now operate openly, dangerously close to direct confrontation.

    ---

    Outlook

None of the factions are winning. None of them can afford to lose.

The Federation is bleeding slowly. The Citadel is overextending. The Covenant is zealously burning itself alive, and the Arachnids consume everything indiscriminately.

What began as isolated wars has now become the galaxy’s first truly existential crisis—a battlefield of collapsing borders, dying empires, and fractured alliances, with no end in sight.

The Four-Way Front is not a war. It is the new "normal". Because, in the future, there is only war

48. #48Cold war

Keys: War, Federation, Arms race, Cold war, Tensions, Citadel

The relationship between the United Citizen Federation and the Citadel Council species is not one of peace—it is one of calculation. Since first contact between the two powers, no open war has erupted. Yet no true trust has ever taken root. Instead, the galaxy has fractured along two lines: one built upon discipline, militarism, and centralized strength, and the other upon diplomacy, balance, and consensual governance. The relationship between the two blocs is best described as a Cold War: a protracted period of militarized rivalry, technological competition, intelligence subterfuge, and ideological deadlock.

What has followed is not cooperation, but competition. Not war, but preparation for it. A cold war in every sense but name.

The Federation and the Citadel Council differ not only in politics, but in purpose, philosophy, and identity. They are two civilizations locked in a silent contest of systems.

The UCF is a militant, meritocratic superstate founded on the principle that citizenship is earned through service, most often in the Mobile Infantry, Fleet Command, or civic corps. Federation society is hierarchical, disciplined, and forward-facing. Technology and culture alike are filtered through a lens of practicality, duty, and species unity. Sacrifice is virtue. Compliance is efficiency. The Federation doesn't just prepare for war—it is built around it.

In contrast, the Citadel Council represents a multipolar coalition of species—including the Asari, Turians, Salarians, and other client races—united under a system of negotiation, diplomatic precedent, and cautious equilibrium. Species retain their independence under a shared interstellar legal framework centered around the Citadel. Harmony is prized. War is a last resort. Council governance is slow, deliberate, and layered, favoring long-term stability over decisive action.

Where the Federation sees weakness, the Council sees prudence. Where the Council sees tyranny, the Federation sees resolve.

Perhaps no philosophical rift better defines the Cold Divide than the opposing views on artificial intelligence.

The Federation embraces fully sapient AI—known legally as Synthetic Citizens. These artificial intelligences are granted legal personhood, service rights, and even command privileges in the military. Federation AIs are rigorously trained, integrated into society, and in some cases, even elected to advisory positions. Projects like NOVA EDGE and Astra Maxima have produced artificial minds rivaling the strategic thinking of organic admirals.

The Citadel Council, following the Geth Uprising, has strictly outlawed true AI. All computational systems remain limited to VIs—virtual intelligences that mimic thought without true self-awareness. To Citadel species, sapient AI represents an existential threat, one that must be contained or destroyed.

This has led to intense friction, especially between Federation AI diplomats and Council bureaucracies, many of whom refuse to even acknowledge synthetic ambassadors as “alive.”

The Federation’s social contract is based on service and sacrifice. Civilians may live freely, but only those who serve can become Citizens, with the right to vote, hold office, and shape policy. Military academies double as political institutions. Helkam cultural doctrine—honoring chain of command and personal sacrifice—aligns perfectly with this structure.

The Council system, meanwhile, values species representation and negotiated law. Power is balanced between the Asari-led diplomatic elite, the Turian military caste, and the Salarian intelligence bureaus. Citizenship is universal at birth; rights are considered innate.

To Federation officers, Citadel politics seem bloated and ineffective. To Citadel ambassadors, Federation society is authoritarian and brutal, a holdover from pre-space fascism.

Although the Federation and Citadel now share embassies and trade routes, the memory of the First Contact War—sparked when humans attempted to activate a mass relay without Council permission—still lingers.

Many Turians, especially older veterans and conservative military factions, still view humanity as reckless expansionists who disrespected interstellar law.

In turn, many humans in the Federation military see the Turians as arrogant enforcers, whose intervention nearly destroyed early Terran aspirations for peaceful exploration.

Tensions remain high in joint operations. “Accidental” targeting lock-ons. Intelligence leaks. Fleet maneuvers just a little too close to each other’s space.

Unofficially, there are Federation naval officers who carry scars from Shanxi, and Turian commanders who would not hesitate to “finish what they started”—should the opportunity arise.

Both sides are engaged in a massive military buildup, though each denies it.

    ▸ Federation Developments

Project VANGUARD: A dreadnought platform fused with synthetic neural cores and Helkam-fused alloy plating. Designed for solo system lockdown operations.

Void Reapers: Mobile Infantry special units bonded with controlled symbiotes, capable of adaptive combat in hostile environments.

Relay Override Protocols: Experimental sabotage techniques that could disable or hijack mass relay exit vectors—officially denied, but rumored within OCI black files.

    ▸ Citadel Developments

Operation Skyglass: Asari and Salarian cooperation on Prothean relic-based dark energy disruption systems—potential battlefield-scale mass nullifiers.

Red Phantom Fleet: Turian stealth destroyers equipped with experimental Thanix-based silent propulsion, designed for deep-system infiltration.

Ghostlink VIs: Salarian-developed “almost-AI” infiltration tools capable of mimicry, psychological subversion, and short-term command override of enemy synthetics.

    ---

Several near-crisis events have rattled the interstellar community:

The Karharr Incident: A Federation convoy carrying Helkam diplomats was scanned by Turian patrols near the Serpent Nebula. The Federation responded by launching four dreadnoughts into the system. Both sides withdrew—barely.

The Geth Exchange Scandal: Rumors persist that the Federation has made backchannel deals with rogue Geth enclaves, offering safe haven in exchange for code-sharing. Council denials were swift and unconvincing.

“Anomaly 6-L” Cover-Up: A black site operated by the Federation’s OCI was discovered just light-weeks from Citadel jurisdiction. The structure was abandoned, and no records remain—on either side.

    ---

As of now, the cold war remains “cold.” Diplomats shake hands. Fleets hold fire. But the trust deficit grows deeper by the cycle. Both sides build. Both sides listen. Both sides plan.

And both know: the next mistake may not be forgiven.

49. #49Penal units

    Keys: criminal, prison, crime, Penal

Penal Service Contracts Category: Federation Military Policy Status: Active – Emergency Provision

    ---

In light of escalating galactic conflicts and rising troop attrition, Federation High Command has authorized the use of Penal Service Contracts—a controversial but effective recruitment policy allowing criminals convicted of non-violent or "light" crimes the opportunity to serve in the military instead of serving prison sentences.

Eligible offenses include charges such as minor theft, smuggling, non-lethal cybercrimes, or unauthorized trade, provided the individual has no history of violent behavior or extremist affiliations. Those who accept the deal are inducted into low-tier infantry regiments, logistics corps, or support roles, typically under direct supervision and with strict performance monitoring.

Completion of a full tour of service—five years or until medically discharged—results in a clean record, citizenship restoration, and access to veteran benefits. Failure to meet standards or refusal to comply with orders results in immediate termination of the deal and return to custody.

While critics call the program morally dubious and exploitative, military officials argue it serves dual purposes: alleviating overburdened prison systems and bolstering manpower in a galaxy teetering on the edge of full-scale war.

“Serve your time, or serve your species. The choice is yours.” – Federation Recruitment Office, Sector 12B

50. #50Bad company

Keys: Bad company, B, B Company, Bad

“Bad Company” (B Company, 222nd Army Battalion) Category: Federation Military Units Status: Active – Penal Integration Unit

    ---

Officially designated as B Company of the 222nd Army Battalion, this infamous unit is more widely known by soldiers and officers alike as “Bad Company.” Composed primarily of personnel conscripted through Penal Service Contracts, Bad Company is filled with troublemakers, misfits, and disciplinary risks—those the Federation deems too dangerous to trust, yet too useful to waste.

Bad Company’s role on the battlefield is high-risk and high-expendability. Often deployed as shock troops, forward scouts, or last-ditch defenders, their missions are brutal, their survival rates low, and their margin for error nonexistent. In official briefings, they are labeled as "morally flexible assets" best utilized in asymmetrical or unwinnable combat scenarios.

Despite its reputation, Bad Company has achieved unexpected battlefield success on multiple occasions—fueled by desperation, rugged ingenuity, and a fierce will to survive. A few members have even earned full pardons and commendations, though most fade into classified reports or unmarked graves.

“You don’t end up in Bad Company by being good. But you just might get out by being great.” – Anonymous CO, 222nd Battalion
