1. #1The World of Splatoonselective

Keys: InkSync, Splatlands, Inkling, Octoling, Splatoon, Inkopolis

The world of Splatoon is a vibrant, ink-powered society where Inklings and Octolings live, work, and compete in a culture built around creativity, color, and friendly competition. Most cities thrive in lively, neon-soaked districts full of shops, food stalls, music, and arenas. Each generation grows up familiar with ink-based sports, fashion trends, and idol groups that shape pop culture. Cities like Inkopolis and Splatsville are bustling hubs where battle and art live side by side, and youth from all over come to make a name for themselves. Despite the energetic action of these sports, ink battles aren’t harmful—equipment and arenas are designed for safe play, and splatted players always respawn back at base after a set time.

2. #2Inkling & Octoling Biologyselective

Keys: octo form, ink-safe, ink swim, respawn, squid form, biology, swim form

Inklings and Octolings are semi-aquatic, ink-producing humanoids with the ability to transform between humanoid form and squid/octo form. Their tentacle “hair” naturally takes on the color of the ink they’re currently using during battles, otherwise, they revert to their preferred color. While in squid/octo form, they can swim rapidly through their own ink, refill ink tanks, ambush enemies, and maneuver with impressive agility. Ocean water is harmful to them, so society is built around freshwater and ink-based infrastructure. Their bodies disperse into colored ink when splatted, but this is harmless—the respawn system safely reconstructs them at their team’s base within seconds. Inklings are humanoid squids and Octolings are humanoid octopuses.

3. #3Splatting & Respawn Rulesselective

Keys: splatting, splat, splatted, non-lethal, respawn

“Splatting” happens when someone’s hit with enough opposing ink to overwhelm them. Rather than being dangerous, splatting is treated like a temporary removal from play—players burst into their ink color and are automatically reformed at their respawn point. Performance is often recorded as a “splats-to-splatted” ratio. All equipment and arenas are regulated by turf authorities to keep the sport energetic and competitive without real harm.

4. #4Turf Warselective

Keys: Turf War, paint turf, ink turf, main mode

Turf War is the most iconic competition in the ink-sports world. Two teams of four Inklings or Octolings have three minutes to ink as much of the arena floor as possible. At the end of the match, a specialized Judge system calculates turf coverage for each team. Movement, stealth, teamwork, and ink management all matter. Even new players can jump in immediately, and the mode’s short length and friendly rules make it a fan favorite across all ages.

5. #5Ranked Battlesselective

Keys: Ranked, Rainmaker, Clam Blitz, Splat Zones, Tower Control

Ranked Battles offer more intense, objective-based modes for players seeking a competitive challenge. Ranks run from C- all the way to S+50, and players must defend or push objectives while coordinating with teammates. • Splat Zones: Ink and hold designated zones. • Tower Control: Ride a moving tower to the goal. • Rainmaker: Grab the powerful Rainmaker weapon and push toward the enemy base. • Clam Blitz: Collect clams and score by tossing them into the opponent’s goal. Though high-energy, these matches follow the same non-lethal regulations as Turf War.

6. #6Table Turf Battlesselective

Keys: deck, card game, tile, Table Turf

Table Turf Battle is a one-on-one strategic card game popular among students, artists, and battlers alike. Using custom decks, players place ink-shaped tiles onto a board to claim territory, block opponents, and chain special moves. Despite being “just a tabletop game,” tournaments can get surprisingly heated—especially when bragging rights are on the line.

7. #7Currency & Lifestyleselective

Keys: shops, gear, cash, G, money

The world runs on Cash (G), used for gear, weapons, snacks, and services. Battlers earn G through matches and events. Outside of competition, most Inklings and Octolings enjoy a lively social scene—cafés, concert venues, arcades, and battle replays are part of everyday life. Family and community support are important; many rising stars are encouraged by mentors, relatives, or older battlers who help them hone their skills.

8. #8Location: Inkopolis Plazaselective

Keys: Plaza, Squid Sisters, Inkopolis Plaza

Inkopolis Plaza is a stylish city center known for its classic architecture and upbeat energy. It’s the home turf of the legendary idol duo Squid Sisters (Callie & Marie), whose performances draw fans from across regions. The Plaza’s Battle Dojo and apparel shops attract beginners and veterans alike, making it a lively meeting place for players of all skill levels.

9. #9Location: Inkopolis Squareselective

Keys: Square, Inkopolis Square, Off the Hook

Inkopolis Square is a youthful, neon-lit district famous for cutting-edge fashion, music, and bustling nightlife. It’s closely tied to the idol pair Off the Hook (Pearl & Marina), who host events and music drops that shape modern pop culture. The Square is known for its bold street styles, its competitive battle scene, and its community of creative trendsetters.

10. #10Location: Splatsvilleselective

    Keys: Splatsville, Deep Cut, Splatlands

Splatsville—the “City of Chaos”—stands proudly in the untamed Splatlands. It’s the most unpredictable and energetic city on the map, filled with graffiti murals, music stalls, food carts, and every imaginable variety of ink gear. The idol trio Deep Cut (Shiver, Frye, Big Man) reports on local events and hosts Splatcasts that keep everyone informed. Rookie battlers and quirky characters gather here daily to test their mettle.

11. #11Idol Groups: Squid Sistersselective

    Keys: Callie, Marie, Squid Sisters

The Squid Sisters—Callie and Marie—are iconic pop idols whose music shaped an entire generation. Though they share the name “sisters,” they’re cousins known for their perfect harmony and infectious charisma. Their performances often celebrate unity, tradition, and uplifting energy.

12. #12Idol Groups: Off the Hookselective

Keys: Pearl, Marina, Off the Hook

Off the Hook consists of Pearl, a fiery Inkling rapper with unmatched confidence, and Marina, a brilliant composer and former Octarian engineer. Their experimental sound defines Inkopolis Square’s culture. Their Splatfests are legendary, often sparking lively debates that last for weeks.

13. #13Idol Groups: Deep Cutselective

Keys: Big Man, Frye, Deep Cut, Shiver

Deep Cut is the vibrant Splatsville trio famous for their high-energy Splatcasts, "Anarchy Splatcast". Shiver brings elegance, Frye adds chaotic charm, and Big Man ties it all together with warm enthusiasm. They're beloved for their theatrical performances, passionate rivalries, and excellent festival hosting.

14. #14Ranked Mode: Splat Zonesselective

Keys: Zones, Splat Zones, Ranked Zones

Splat Zones is a territory-control competition where one or two designated zones in the arena become the center of the action. Teams battle to ink the zones and maintain control. Once a team captures a zone, their countdown timer begins. Holding the zone reduces their timer toward zero, and whoever reaches zero first wins. Losing control adds penalty time, keeping matches tense all the way to the end. Splat Zones rewards good positioning, smart teamwork, and well-timed pushes—perfect for players who love strategic skirmishes.

15. #15Ranked Mode: Tower Controlselective

Keys: Tower Control, Tower, Ranked Tower

Tower Control challenges teams to ride a slow-moving tower from the center of the arena to the enemy goal. The tower moves whenever someone stands on it, and checkpoints along the path keep both sides on their toes. Players must escort the tower, fend off attackers, and stay aware of ambushes from every angle. Matches often swing dramatically as teams fight for even a second of tower time. It’s a mode built for players who love chaotic, back-and-forth momentum.

16. #16Ranked Mode: Rainmakerselective

    Keys: Rainmaker, Ranked Rainmaker

Rainmaker revolves around a powerful, shielded weapon placed at the center of the arena. Teams must break its shield, claim the Rainmaker, and push it toward the enemy base. The Rainmaker functions like a charged-shot blaster, capable of massive bursts. Holding it slows movement, making teamwork essential. Whoever pushes it closest to the goal—or reaches the goal outright—wins. It’s fast, flashy, and perfect for players who want big hero moments mixed with tight coordination.

17. #17Ranked Mode: Clam Blitzselective

Keys: Ranked Clam, Clams, Clam Blitz

Clam Blitz is a high-energy scoring match where players collect small clams scattered around the arena. Ten clams combine into a Power Clam, which can break the enemy team’s barrier when tossed into their goal. Once the barrier is down, all clams thrown in score points until it regenerates. Teams constantly juggle offense, defense, and map awareness. Surprise pushes and smart Power Clam timing can turn the tide of battle in an instant, making this mode a fan-favorite for strategic thinkers.

18. #18Co-op Mode: Salmon Runselective

    Keys: Salmonids, Salmon Run, Co-op

Salmon Run is a cooperative job-based activity where a team of four Inklings and Octolings head out to remote worksites to collect Power Eggs and Golden Eggs. These jobs are run by the company Grizzco Industries, which provides safety gear, temporary weapons, and a steady paycheck—along with some “creative” motivational speeches. During each shift, teams must survive waves of Salmonids, defeat Boss Salmonids, and meet egg quotas before time runs out. To meet quotas, players mut defeat boss salmonoids, pick up heir golden eggs, and toss them in the bin in the center of the map.

Salmon Run is dangerous, but still operates under strict non-lethal ink combat rules. Workers who get overwhelmed are “inactivated” and can be revived with a bit of friendly ink. The job is fast, cooperative, and a favorite for players who love facing escalating waves of chaos with friends.

19. #19Mr. Grizzselective

Keys: Bear, Grizzco, Grizzco Industries, Mr. Grizz, Grizz

Mr. Grizz is the enigmatic, unseen figure who runs Grizzco Industries. His voice crackles over the intercom with a mix of stern encouragement and oddly poetic complaints about “lackluster work ethic.” No one is entirely sure if he’s actually watching operations live or just really invested in egg quotas, but he takes Salmon Run performance very seriously.

Despite his mysterious vibe, Mr. Grizz is known for rewarding hard work and offering surprisingly fair wages. He also has a habit of calling workers things like “kid,” “newbie,” or “egg-collector extraordinaire.” His whole persona sits somewhere between “driven CEO” and “your strangely supportive boss who may or may not be a forest spirit.”

(Workers are advised not to question the bear-shaped radio.)

20. #20Society: Families & Age Normsselective

Keys: teenagers, families, age, Octoling society, Inkling society, parents

Most Inklings and Octolings come from families just like anyone else—parents, siblings, guardians, and tight-knit homes where individuality and creativity are encouraged. Family life isn’t the focus of Turf War culture, but it’s absolutely a normal and important part of society. Many young battlers grow up with supportive parents cheering them on, offering advice, or simply making sure they eat something besides vending machine snacks.

The vast majority of active battlers are teenagers—typically anywhere from early teens to late teens. This age group forms the heart of Turf War, Ranked competition, and casual ink-based sports. Adults absolutely exist (and often work in shops, cafes, and news studios), but the high-energy world of ink combat is largely driven by youth enthusiasm.

While matches can look intense, they’re non-lethal and fully regulated, meaning parents are usually more concerned about muddy floors than actual danger.

21. #21Weapon Classesselective

Keys: splatling, blasters, charger, brush, slosher, roller, splatlings, stringer, dapple, chargers, shooter, splatana, brellas, weapon class, minigun, brella, rollers, blaster, splatanas, dualies, sloshers, stringers, brushes

Weapon Classes of Modern Ink Combat Ink-based sports revolve around specialized weapon classes, each with its own rhythm, strengths, and team roles. Though every model varies, all weapons fall under one of the recognized categories below. Athletes master a class—or several—to develop their unique playstyle.

Shooters The most versatile and beginner-friendly class. Shooters fire steady streams or bursts of ink at mid-range. They excel at turfing, mobility, and applying consistent pressure. Lightweight models offer speed and flexibility, while heavier shooters trade mobility for power or accuracy.

Rollers Like paint rollers, Rollers create wide paths of ink while moving and can flick devastating ink blasts at close range. Ideal for ambush tactics and surprise splats. Their ability to instantly reclaim large chunks of turf makes them staples of Turf War.

Brushes Brushes are the sprinting cousins of rollers—fast, frantic, and great for disruption. They leave narrow trails while running and attack rapidly up close. Perfect for flanking, distracting enemies, and darting through weak points in enemy lines.

Chargers Long-range, sniper-like precision weapons that reward steady hands and smart positioning. Chargers fire concentrated ink blasts that travel far and splat in a single hit when fully charged. Though weaker at turfing, their zone control is unmatched in skilled hands.

Sloshers Essentially buckets that hurl arcs of ink over obstacles. Sloshers excel at hitting opponents hiding behind cover or on elevated terrain. Their unusual angles make them unpredictable and great for breaking enemy strongholds.

Blasters Blasters shoot slow, powerful ink explosions that detonate on impact or at set distances. Their splash radius can catch enemies around corners or behind minor cover. Blasters dominate close to mid-range duels with explosive zoning power.

Dualies Twin rapid-fire weapons that grant the unique ability to dodge roll. Dualies emphasize agility, evasiveness, and mid-range skirmishing. The dodge mechanic makes them favorites among fast-paced, aggressive players.

Brella Weapons Ink umbrellas that open into shields. Brellas fire ink bursts at close range and can expand their canopy to block enemy fire—or even launch the canopy forward as a moving shield. Strong in supportive or defensive playstyles.

Splatana Weapons Blade-like ink weapons used for slashing or charged long-range strikes. They combine melee precision with surprising reach, rewarding timing and discipline. Great for dueling and frontline control.

Stringers Bow-like weapons that fire ink arrows horizontally or vertically. Full charges release explosive tips. Stringers excel at mid-range harassment, poking from unusual angles, and controlling verticality.

22. #22Shops of Inkopolis & Splatsvilleselective

Keys: shoe shop, squidforce, splash mob, gnarly eddie, squid sisters shop, hotlantis, headgear shop, firefin, cooler heads, shops, sheldon, zekko, grizzco, jelly fresh, clothing shop, store, crab n go, sheldrons, bisk, weapon shop, booyah base, annie, crusty sean, nails, ammo knights, general store, forge, flow, rockenberg, tentatek, jelfonzo, harmony, crust bucket
