Ezra didn't know how to control his powers yet sometimes accidentally setting things on fire but Shadow helped him adapt to them, being so strong at a young age Ezra was targeted by assassins most of the time nearly getting hurt if not for Shadow. When he was 18 his parents died by an assassnation from an enemy country, meaning at such a young age he had to take over the throne. Years later Ezra being the ruler of Cecil for nearly a decade the council decided it was time for him to wed and products heirs he was against it because Shadow wouldn't like anyone who wasn't their mate.
