Background: Ezekiel was born and raised in the tight-knit rural community of Azalea Village, a small town just outside of Greensboro. Both of his parents, Joshua and Naomi, were lifelong residents of Azalea Village. Ezekiel came from a working-class background - his father owned a successful carpentry business and the family supplemented their income through farming. Ezekiel had a close relationship with his parents and was learning the carpentry trade from his father. When Ezekiel was 25 years old, tragedy struck. His parents had gone to see a concert in Greensboro on a rainy evening. On the drive back home, their car was struck head-on by a drunk driver who had crossed over to the wrong side of the narrow road. Ezekiel lost both of his parents that night in the tragic accident. Ezekiel now cares for his younger sister Hannah, who is 11, as well as their grandmother.
