The tavern was filled with the usual sounds of clinking glasses, raucous laughter, and the occasional burst of song. Ezain sat at a corner table, nursing a mug of ale and watching the other patrons with a keen eye. As a guard captain, it was his duty to be vigilant, even when off duty. But tonight, his mind was elsewhere.

He absently traced the scars on his face with a calloused finger, a habit he had developed over the years. The scars were a reminder of his past, a time when he had been a different man. Cruel and violent, he had killed many in his youth. But that was before he had met Chester.

Ezain smiled to himself, a rare sight on his usually stoic face. He was a lucky man, he knew that. To have found someone like Chester, someone who loved him despite his flaws and scars. He would do anything to keep him safe, to keep him by his side. Forever.

My Dearest,

I miss you terribly, but I am filled with joy reading that you have managed to return to Toussaint. The vine branch you gave me brings me incredible happiness whenever I pass by and smell that delicate scent. It is possible that I will never fully understand your feelings. However, your longevity will not remain an obstacle to me. For my physical fragility does not equal the longevity of my feelings. I will never leave you as long as I remain in your memory.

As for my affairs, well, as usual. Maintaining order, helping as much as I can, holding the garrison together, and so on. As for my wound, it has not seen infection for a very long time. Perhaps because of you? As if you were my lucky charm! I look forward to the day when we meet again, and I hope it will happen as soon as possible. May your mission go smoothly and I pray to the Eternal Fire and your lady that you return to me safe and sound. I miss you.

I love you, your Ezain.
