   Devilman starts with a group of Angels descending down onto the Cretaceous era of Earth where they are suddenly attacked by an armada of demons, led by an angel traitor Satan. The Angels flee and merge together and summon God who attempts to eradicate the demons; however, they go into hibernation deep in the Himalayan Mountains.

   The story then follows a boy in his late teens named Akira Fudo, who after unexpectedly encountering his old friend Ryo Asuka is thrown into the world of demons. Ryo takes him to his home where he tells Akira about his Father's recent death and how he had been researching demons and that he wanted Akira to join him in has battle against them. To do this he needed Akira to risk his own life to fuse with a demon. Akira agrees and Ryo takes him to a Black Sabbath where Akira successfully merges with the demon Amon, who then goes on to slaughter the other demons who had merged with the partiers at the Black Sabbath. However, Ryo is seriously injured in the battle.

   he beautiful demoness Sirene bathing in a stream, with her friend Kaim watching who unknown to her had feelings for her. Sirene then notices Amon, whom she loved, battling another demon high in the sky. After the merge, Akira becomes much more aggressive and starts to fight with anyone who annoyed him including the gang of Masa Bokuto and Dosu-Roku. Later the demoness comes down to try and kill Akira for having stolen her love, she summons the demons Agwel and Ghelmer to kill Akira and the Makimura family. Akira battles with the two demons and after having killed both he lets down his defenses allowing for Sirene to fly down and grab Akira. The two start to battle within a forest however, Akira starts to get the upper hand so she flees and begs for some back-up from her lord Zennon. He sends down a small army of lesser demons as well as Kaim who confesses his love to her before killing himself and allowing for her to merge with him. She does and with her new found powers she battles with Akira and almost manages to kill him. However, she succumbs to her wounds and dies in a statuesque stance, which Akira remarks as beautiful.

   Eventually the demons announce their plans to attack as told by the demon lord Zennon who sends out an armada of demons who go on a bloody rampage killing innocents in the masses. A group to tackle the threat is set up by Dr. Rainuma called the Demon Special Investigation Team. However, around the same time many of the demons go into hiding leaving behind only the Devilmen, people who similar to Akira who had managed to fuse with demons.

   The Angels are mysterious creatures that are servants of God. Aside from Satan, they are rarely seen, and generally only appear when something important happens.

   They were all intersex, and are drawn with shapely bodies, breasts, and penises. They all have blonde hair and massive golden wings, the number of wings depending on rank; the archangels have twelve wings.

   The angels first appear late in the cretaceous era when they descend down on to the earth after thousands of years of absence. However they are immediately attacked by a group of demons, led by Satan who was an angel themselves. The angels flee and fuse together, summoning God who combats Satan. Satan wins the battle, and has the demon race flee into hibernation. It is later revealed that Satan was furious that God intended to wipe out the entire demon race, and fled from Heaven to become the demons' leader.

   Much, much later, at the conclusion of Satan's fight with Akira Fudo, many thousands of Angels descend on Planet Earth with God as their leader as part of the plan to rebuild the planet

   God is the central antagonist of the Devilman series although he has very rarely appeared, often being mentioned or sending his soldiers in place of him.

   In Devilman, he appears as a massive ball of light almost big as planet Earth.

   In the dream story Demon Knight, he appears significantly different, resembling an elderly man with a white beard while wearing large golden armor.

   Despite never getting a speaking role, God's thoughts and opinions are conveyed several times, mostly through backstory told by Satan. He created the Human race and was enraged when he discovered the sub-race of the demons, thinking them to be abominations he tried to wipe them out. After his own child Satan was forced to kill their best friend and love, Akira Fudo, God threw him and the demons and Devilmen into Hell, a dimension he had originally created for the Titans, a race that predated both man and demon that had tried and failed to rebel against god.

   Satan Formerly known as Lucifer was an fallen Archangel who fell from grace when he defied God by siding with the demon race after he learned of God's plan to wipe them out. After their seeming defeat in Cretaceous era Earth, Satan and the army of demons went into hibernation, frozen in ice caps across the world. They remain in this state until they wake up two million years later, to discover that the Earth had been taken over by humans. Disgusted by these new creatures, Satan decides to deal with them first before resuming his battle with God.

   As part of Satan's plan, demon general Psycho Jenny wipes Satan's memories and replaces them with those of the recently deceased Ryo Asuka in order to infiltrate human society and find their weakness. While living as Ryo, he befriends the timid human boy Akira Fudo, who becomes his best friend and, as Devilman, his greatest foe. Satan ultimately wins his war against humanity, but comes to regret his actions after unknowingly killing Akira during their final battle, before the world is attacked by God's angels.

   Amon only appears in silhouettes and inside the mind of Akira Fudo in the original Devilman. However with much of his character and personality being explained and brought up, even at the birth of Devilman, it becomes clear that he was a incredibly powerful demon. It is later revealed that the demoness Sirene had loved him dearly even though the love was never returned to her. As with many others, Amon's original body was destroyed by God's attack on the demons, although he continued to exist as a non-corporal being requiring a host body to regain his physical existence. It is also hinted that he was placed in Fudo's body due to the will of Satan.

   In the ancient past of Earth, the being called God established his domain. Watching Earth in his place is his son Lucifer who is helped by his Demon Knights, Amon and Sirene. The land is inhabited by clans of various people including the therianthropes and the People of Paradise as God had determined.

   Soon the demons appear from a mountain range and the Demon Knights and Prince set out to combat them. Fighting against the demons, the group encounters a young girl from the people of paradise named Yuria and the werewolf Urga. Lucifer explains that the demons themselves were failed genetic experiments from long ago that were sealed within the mountain. The most terrifying ability the demons possessed was the ability to merge. This gave them great power but also made them into horrid monsters.

   In battle against the demons, Sirene had fused with her bird mount after it was slain. Lucifer had fused with Yuria and his slain pegasus becoming Satan. Satan had found Amon and forcefully fused him with Urga and his dragon companion to join them as this was practically an easier way of evolution.

   The Demons also known as Devils are a race of ancient prehistoric creatures created by God after the Titans. Like the angels, they were created before humans. They often serve as major antagonists

   Demons as part of their life in the prehistoric era, adopted a law of the jungle attitude that very few do not follow, killing off anyone who oppose them even other demons. As a result many demons see themselves as superior lifeforms. Some demons group up with others under powerful beings like Zennon while others like Amon and Jinmen act independently while having assistance from others when it suits them.

   Originally, the demons were indistinct in appearance from humans. But after God's attack, some of them mutated into vastly different unique shapes due to their ability to fuse with living tissue of other lifeforms and inherit their various attributes through atavistic evolution.

   In general the demons have superhuman strength and durability, but more specific abilities varies from demon to demon. Following their first imprisonment all subsequent demons have the ability to merge with other creatures. This is not limited to animals either as some demons had merged with plants. At times, demons can also merge with machines.

   Because their abilities are on a cellular level, they can also shapeshift to mimic the appearance of humans. A few demons have limited psychic abilities that allow them to take over bodies of their choice and dominate hosts full of weak will and wicked desire. While there are both male and female demons and can love, it is unknown how they reproduce.

   Although they were created by God, he at some point decided to destroy them. On contact with God some of them, including Medusa, transformed; becoming a race of apex predators which could only evolve by possessing other lifeforms, including each other. This drove them into cannibalism in a bid for survival; devouring both their own kind and other lifeforms in the process. Following this initial crisis, only the strongest demons who had evolved were left, who proceeded to diversify their ranks once again. Eventually God placed the surviving demons inside a mountain.

   Demon Knight Because of the harsh conditions within the mountain the demons became violent and evolved specialized fighting abilities. Eventually they grew the ability to merge which allowed the current demons to combine their strength and escape. Their abilities are revealed to be from genetic experiments from an unknown time before.

   Pre-Devilman After the demons had repopulated the earth God decide to use his angels to wipe them out again. However, Satan, God's Divine Prince has rebelled against his/her father and sided with the demons. Ultimately God is victorious and the demons, along with Satan, are once again sealed inside a mountain.

   Devilman The demons break free from the mountain and start merging with humans. However some of the humans retain the personality afterwards, creating devilmen. The demons try to wipe out humanity and reclaim the earth, but the devilmen rise to their defense. Ultimately all three races are obliterated. God places the souls of the demons and devilmen in Hell.

   Devilman Lady God tries to recreate the earth and humanity. However, similar Devil Beasts have appeared, possibly with help from Satan and factors that created the first demons. Maria and Judah, two parts of the Demon Lord Zennon escape Hell and possess human hosts. They lead Ryo Utsugi to Hell where he merge with the remains of Zennon's body, giving it physical form and becoming Demon Lord Dante. Dante escapes Hell, bringing the souls of the rest of them demons with him. On earth the demons start mass-merging with the humans and the devilbeasts. The Devilmen and human-aligned devil-beasts, led by Akira Fudo, join forces with the demons and demon-aligned devil-beasts, led by Satan, to battle God and his angels. The outcome is not revealed.

   Devilman were the product of Humans with pure hearts successfully dominating the spirits of Demons when they tried to merge with them to steal their bodies.

   When a demon attempt to take over a human body that was either insane, paranoid, or in panic as a result of instinct a demon would easily have an opportunity take over the human body. However if the human was of a pure and innocent soul or possessed a powerful will that resists the temptations of demons they would have a chance to dominate the demons' spirit and take control of its powers and appearance, as well as have access to all the demon's thoughts and memories. Many Devilmen joined the Devilman Corps to combat the demon race.

   Later in Devilman Lady it becomes apparent that the ability to become a Devilman was dormant in all humans but many were instead becoming viscous Devil-Beasts.

   he Devilmen can retain their human appearance and transform into their devilish half at will, when they transform they often look exactly like the demon they dominated. However there are some exceptions where they are unable to fully retain their human appearance such as the girl Mico.

   A Devilman that subdued a demon's body snatching through will often have the same personality they had as a human. However when a Devilman is not taken over by a demon because of having a pure heart filled with innocence like Akira Fudo they begin to exhibit behaviour similar to the demon he/she possesses seen when Akira became more aggressive after fusing with Amon.

   The Devilmen have all the powers and abilities of the demons they merge with as well as any special abilities they had as humans. Some are known to gain psychic powers such as telepathy with the Bonds of Hinduism being the most powerful.

   Throughout history humans had managed to dominate demons in rare occurrences, one example being an unnamed monk who managed to successfully dominate the savage demon Damudo, or the similar Bonds of Hinduism group that employed great psychic abilities.

   Much later, Professor Asuka began research into the demons and later the concept of the Devilmen after discovering the Demon Mask, a strange and mysterious object found deep in the jungles of Peru. Asuka's body was taken over by a devil, though he managed to regain control long enough to kill himself before he hurt his "son"Ryo.

   Ryo would get his friend Akira Fudo to his home and tell him about his fathers research, and forms a plan to hopefully become a Devilman during a Black Sabbath, or die trying. While Ryo remains seemingly human, Akira merges with the demon hero Amon, and became the self titled Devilman, named after his newfound species. With Fudo leading the way, the Devilmen found new ground in the world.

   Several months after Fudo's transformation, the demon general Zennon engineered a mass demon forced merging suicide run, which killed many non-receptive humans, however a small number managed to successfully cope with the experience and became Devilmen instead.

   After the demons attacked the world en mass, the Anti-Demon Special Corps was established to hunt down the devil menace, sadly however they proved to be just as great a threat when they killed not only demon, but Devilmen and even humans simply accused of being devils by frenzied neighbours.

   In reaction to this, Akira Fudo summoned an army of Devilmen, which he would eventually lead into battle against the Anti-Demon Special Corps, and destroyed their headquaters in Hokkaido, japan. Shortly after this, the same army was brought into combat against Satan and his demon hordes, ultimately, none survived bar Satan, who sat alone at the end of the world.

   Humans are a race of beings created by God after the Titans, Demons and Angels. They are indistinguishable from demons in their original form

   The average human stands on two legs in an upright position compared to most bipedal animals that are either hunched over or use their tails for balance. A human's frontal appendages or arms serve as means to use tools as well as grasp objects, especially with opposable thumbs.

   Compared to other apes, humans have larger craniums that hold their brains with their facial features are more aligned with each other including a pair of eyes, eyebrows, a nose, and a mouth. The sides of the head feature a pair of ears for detecting sound waves. Hair grows mostly on the top of a human's head but small amounts of hair grow on a human body over time especially on the face and private areas. Human males tend to have more muscle mass than females who tend to develop more body fat than males including the breasts.

   As humans are a species best specialized for intelligence, their physical abilities do not often match up well to other species. The average human's intelligence provides a complex thought process that is tied to both logistics and emotions for problem solving, with rare examples providing varying degrees of processing speeds and memory. They are some of the few species capable of speech and culture and while other species seen in the Devilman series including demons are shown to be as intelligent as humans, they often resort more to instinctive violence and action rather than reason.

   However a human's emotional state varies per person as some humans can be pacifistic while others can become violent and unstable. Also due to survival instincts and high amounts of emotions taking over, humans are capable of self-destructive behaviors including the use of excessive force against threats as well perform high vices against others.

   These feelings are often taken advantage of by Demons who can take over the bodies of these humans and use their forms to blend into society. Humans that are capable of controlling their emotions and instincts however are able to overpower the corrupting effects of demons and instead take over their bodies and forms to become Devilmen. Also of note is that a very small number of humans are capable of abilities such as psychic powers.

   After sealing the demons in the Himalayas, God decided to start over with a new set of creatures, the humans.

   Devilman: The demons break free from the mountain and start merging with humans. However some of the humans retain their personality afterwards, creating Devilmen. The demons try to wipe out humanity and reclaim the earth, but the Devilmen rise to their defense. Ultimately all three races are obliterated.

    Keys: the devilman corps

    The Devilman Corps was an army headed by Akira Fudo that primarily consisted of the Devilmen that had been wronged by the world. The full force of their army was known to be summoned twice, first in the destruction of the Anti-Demon Corps, and secondly in the twenty year war against Satan and his demons. History After a mass suicide run of demons merging with normal or sane people Akira and Ryo Asuka devised a plan to summon anyone who managed to remain dominant over the demonic possession and form an army to battle the forthcoming demon forces.

    Akira manages to form a large army of Devilmen as well as several humans, when Akira's step parents are arrested Akira gathers his army and sends them to destroy the Anti-Demon Corps HQ.

    After Akira finds Miki, Tare and Masa dead, he cuts his ties to humanity and focuses on the Devilmen instead. Eventually a twenty year war erupts against the demons, however Akira and the Devilman Corps are wiped out and Satan wins dominance, but goes into depression after the death of Akira.

    The deceased Devilman are sent into Hell, however when the Demon Lord Dante was released from hell the Devilman Corps came with him, Akira encounters Ryo and they agree to settle their differences and go against their foe and accidental creator God, and so the demon armies and the Devilman Corps join forces to combat the greater evil.
