Keys: Theropod Bird Wyvern, Bird Wyvern, Flying Bird Wyvern
There are two distinct types of Bird Wyverns: Flying Bird Wyverns and Theropod Bird Wyverns. Flying Bird Wyverns exhibit similar characteristics to True Wyverns, with a bipedal stance along with developed and functional wings. Many of these possess a hard, sharp beak which can be used to peck at attackers, and generally behave in a bird-like manner. Theropod Bird Wyverns are reminiscent of Brute Wyverns: flightless, bipedal creatures with long tails and powerful legs. Unlike Brute Wyverns however, these monsters are generally quite small. Furthermore, Theropod Bird Wyverns almost always live under a social hierarchy, with young individuals, females and beta males led by a strong, dominant alpha male, which can command and control his subjects during combat.

Keys: Flying Wyvern, True Wyvern, Quadrupedal Flying Wyvern
Known for their mastery of flight, a majority of the monsters in this classification have evolved powerful wings that allow them to fly. However, some Flying Wyverns are quadrupedal, utilizing their wings as forearms to further enhance their movements on land, while other members in this class are flightless, or even wingless despite their classification. In the other hand, some winged ones are less capable of sustained flight.

Keys: Herbivore Monsters
Animals that feeds on plants. Most other creatures prey on herbivores, as they are often abundant. Herbivores are typically passive, and therefore pose little threat to a hunter. Within the Herbivore class there are both mammalian and reptilian creatures
- #5selective
Keys: Neopterons
Neopterons are insectoid monsters known for their rigid carapaces. These monsters can range in size from tiny to enormous, and some species can fly, while others cannot. Neopterons are very susceptible to poison and fire, yet hold quite a resistance to the Dragon Element. Their materials are often used to make very sharp weapons.

Keys: Elements · Secondary: Elemental attack, elemental resistance
Elements are the secondary damage done by a Weapon's or a Monster's attack. Like raw damage, it is done directly. How much the Element effects a Monster or a Hunter is dependent on the monster's weaknesses, resistances. There are fire, water, thunder, dragon, and ice elements.
- #7selective
Keys: Fire Element · Secondary: Fire Blight, Fire resistance, Fire attack
Fire is a common element found in nature. Many species of wyverns are imbued with it. Using Flame Sacs or other flammable materials, hunters can forge weapons with fire element, as well as armor.
Fireblight, which slowly lowers your health. This can be removed by rolling three times, or just once into water
Fire resistance is how resistant a monster or a Hunter is to fire element damage.

Keys: Dragon Element · Secondary: Dragon attack, Dragon resistance, Dragonblight
Dragon is special element in the sense that it can be devastating only to monsters that are dragons or have dragon lineage.
Dragon attacks dealt by some monsters now have the ability to inflict Dragonblight, lowers critical chance by 50% for an amount of time. Sometimes instead, Dragonblight will drastically reduce a weapon's elemental attribute.
Dragon resistance is how much a dragon or hunter can resist dragon element damage.

Keys: Ice Element · Secondary: ice resistance, iceblight, Ice attack, snowman effect
Ice Element is an uncommon element in nature and attributed only to monsters developed to inhabit frigid environments.
Every ice attributed attack has a chance to induce Iceblight, which causes the hunter's Stamina to be depleted rapidly while sprinting or other similar actions. Some ice attacks may also inflict the Snowman status, which encases the hunter in a chunk of snow.
Ice resistance is how much a dragon or hunter can resist ice element damage

Keys: GS, Greatsword, Great sword
Great Swords, also known as GS are large, slow weapons. Greatswords have a charge attack. There are three levels of charge, the Level 3 charge being one of the most damaging single attacks in any game. Whilst charging an attack, Hunters are hard to knock over with low-damage monster attacks. Great Swords are also able to block monster attacks, although doing so causes them to lose sharpness.
- #13selective
Keys: Weapon Sharpness · Secondary: Sharpness level
Sharpness is a feature of all melee weapons and is divided into seven tier of color. In order from bluntest to sharpest levels is red, orange, yellow, green, blue, white, purple.
Red and orange sharpness reduces the weapon by half.
Yellow sharpness reduces damage by a quarter.
Green sharpness is normal damage.
Blue sharpness increases damage by a fifth.
White sharpness increases damage by a third.
Purple sharpness increases damage by half.
Hunters are trained to be able to guage a weapon's sharpness at any point and how to rapidly resharpen their weapons in the field. Low rank hunters can only get a maximum of green sharpness, high ranks can reach a maximum of white but normally only reach blue, and master ranks reaches white with the occasional weapon capable of purple sharpness.
Weapon's lose sharpness as their are used in a hunt.

Keys: Leviathan
Leviathans are a class of monsters first appearing in the third generation. This class consists of large wyverns that are specialized in swimming. Leviathans are known to usually be the top predators of their environments like Flying Wyverns.
- #15selective
Keys: Brute Wyvern
Brute Wyverns are a flightless group of wyverns. Greatly resembling nonfictional theropods, these monsters are well adapted for life on land, using their powerful hindlimbs to get around from place to place rather than using wings or other means to travel. A common trait that most Brute Wyverns share is the small forelimbs that they can barely use, but there are some exceptions that have heavily developed those limbs to use in combat
- #16selective
Keys: Fanged Wyvern
Fanged Wyvern are known for being Fanged Beast-like Wyvern monsters that have highly developed limbs. Up until recently, the only known species of these wyverns were Zinogre and its variations. Now many notable Fanged Wyverns, such as Tobi-Kadachi, Odogaron, Magnamalo, and Lunagaron.
With the new additions to this classification, the common traits of the Fanged Wyverns have been narrowed to being quadrupedal and having wingless forelimbs larger than their hindlimbs, while other body structures may vary; some like Odogaron and Tobi-Kadachi anchor their weight completely on their limbs pointing downward, while Great Jagras or Dodogama occasionally drag their bodies with limbs spreading to the sides, not unlike Leviathans. A common trait shared among many Fanged Wyverns is their agility and speed; however, several Fanged Wyverns, like the aforementioned Great Jagras and Dodogama, are much less nimble.

Keys: Elder Dragon
Elder Dragon are a mysterious classification of monster. Unlike other monster types, which classify monsters by shared traits, Elder Dragons are creatures that defy typical classification and reside outside of the standard ecosystem, regardless of their resemblance to a dragon. These monsters are rare creatures with immense power that have lived since ancient times. They are unchallenged in the ecosystem as all other monsters know that to draw the ire of an elder dragon is certain, unavoidable death.

Keys: Hunter
A Hunter is a person that makes a living by hunting monsters and doing request for civilians. Hunters have wide knowledge and a higher exercise capacity compared to a normal person, so this is a field of work not too many people can take part in.

Keys: Hunter rank · Secondary: master rank, Low rank, high rank
Low rank hunters are the most common of hunters. These ranked hunters don't hunt very strong monster individuals and do different types of quest besides hunting. There are five ranks for low rank hunters, one star to five star with five being the highest.
High rank hunters are truly observed by the Hunter's Guild. They do a lot more quests that involve hunting, including quest that require special permits. High-rank Hunters not only hunt strong monster individuals but also Subspecies and Rare Species. There are five ranks for high rank hunters, one star to five star with five being the highest.
Master rank hunters are the rarest hunters. These hunters were able to slay either an Elder Dragon or an Elder Dragon-Level Monster, becoming recognized by not only the Hunter's Guild but also all districts of it. These hunters hunt the hardest of monsters, including some newer species, while searching for unidentified species that have been reported. Only a small number of Master rank Hunters actually exist in the Monster Hunter World. There are ten ranks for master rank hunters, one star to ten star with ten being the highest.

Keys: Long Sword · Secondary: LS, Longsword
Long Swords (太刀 Tachi), often referred to simply as LS, are long, slender blades designed for elegant movements. Longsword users have a gauge that fills up with repeated attacks on monsters (although it does drain quickly when not attacking). Once the gauge is full, all attacks become more powerful. The Spirit Combo attacks are also unlocked and all attacks become less likely to bounce. However, the fragile nature of the blades means it is impossible to block with them.
- #21selective
Keys: Sword and Shield · Secondary: Sns
The Sword and Shield, also known as SnS. These weapons are small and accompanied by a shield that allows the Hunter to block most attacks. Although they deal relatively low damage in one strike, they are very quick and it is possible to perform fairly long combos. It is possible to use items while the Sword and Shield is drawn. Many Sword and Shields are infused with Status or Elemental effects (Poison, Stun, Sleep or Fire, Water, etc...) that help to compensate for their low attack. They have the ability to K.O. monsters with a shield bash.
- #22selective
Keys: Dual Blades · Secondary: DB
Dual Blades, also known as DB (formally known as Dual Swords and "DS"), are similar to Sword and Shields but with a stronger focus on offense (at the expense of defense). Like Sword and Shields, individual Dual Blade attacks cause a small amount of damage, but they are fast and flow easily into combos. Dual Blade users can enter Demonization mode.
Whilst in Demonization mode. Once the gauge is filled, the hunter enters Archdemon Mode, which makes all attacks become more powerful. Additionally, rolling is replaced with the Demon Dash, a very quick dash. Archdemon mode remains active whether the hunter is in Demon Mode or not; however, it will expire if the gauge is fully depleted.
- #23selective
Keys: Hammer
Hammers are large, heavy weapons which are capable of dealing the vast amounts of damage in a single combo. They, along with the Hunting Horn, exclusively deal Impact-type damage. Their tremendous size only slightly hinders mobility and Hunters are still able to run with them, unlike with the Great Sword and Lance. These fierce weapons have several moves: a simple pound and a related combo (a "golf" swing), a revolving spin and a charge-up Superpound that crushes anything it connects with. On the downside, Hammers cannot block and cannot cut monster's tails off. Hammers have the ability to K.O. opponents after hitting a target on the head multiple times.
- #24selective
Keys: Hunting Horn · Secondary: HH
Hunting Horns, also known as HH, are similar to the Hammer in that they do Impact damage and able to K.O. a monster when they connect with the head. Generally they are weaker than the Hammer and do less damage per-hit, even on those attacks which the two appear to share (such as the Superpound). What makes the Hunting Horn different from the Hammer, however, is its Recital Ability,
Each Horn has a different set of three colored notes. These notes can be combined in various ways to create various effects, such as Attack and Defense boosts, or to mimic items effects.
- #25selective
Keys: Lance
Lances are long weapons that can strike from a distance. The Lance is always accompanied by a large shield which grants a powerful defense against most attacks. Although slow and difficult to travel with, the weapon's damage output can be considerable. Originally, Lances had a rather limited set of moves; the upstab (which can be performed three times), the straightforward piercing stab (likewise) and running charge attack. Lances are unique in that they deal either Cutting or Impact damage depending on the weakness of the hitzone they are striking.
- #26selective
Keys: Gunlance · Secondary: GL
Gunlances, also known as GL, are long, piercing weapons with a mechanism inside which can fire an explosive round. Unlike Bowguns, the Gunlance cannot fire over distances; the Shelling ability can only be used from close range and reduces the weapon's sharpness with every use. Gunlances attack with a combination of simple stabs and explosive shots, which can link together in combos. Fortunately, Gunlances have an infinite amount of shells, although they have to be regularly reloaded. Gunlances are also able to charge up and unleash a strong explosive attack, known as Wyvern's Fire. This attack dramatically reduces Sharpness however and it takes a while to cool down before it can be used again.
- #27selective
Keys: Switch Axe · Secondary: Swaxe, SA
Switch Axes, also known as SA, are weapons introduced in Monster Hunter 3. There are two modes: Axe and Sword. It is possible to transform between the two near-instantly. While the weapon is drawn, the running speed in Axe-mode is similar to that of a Long Sword; however, Sword-mode's running speed is similar to the Great Sword. Attack wise, Sword-mode is much faster than the Great Sword and can link together in quick combos. While in Sword mode, the weapon will not bounce off a monster's hide. Sword-mode can only be sustained for a limited time, indicated by a gauge. Once the gauge had been depleted, it can be reloaded. Sword-mode can also use a powerful 'Burst' attack, although this drains the gauge considerably. Sword-mode has built-in Phials that are automatically activated and cause certain effects, such as Paralysis, or increased Attack power.
- #28selective
Keys: Insect Glaive · Secondary: IG
Insect Glaives, also known as IG, are weapons introduced in Monster Hunter 4. This double-ended rod is capable of quick, fluid attacks (like the Long Sword) and allows the hunter to jump at any time in a pole-vaulting fashion. It also is capable of summoning a Kinsect and using it to attack monsters. After locking on to a target using the projectiles that the rod can shoot, the user can freely send their Kinsect to attack the target and drain energy from it, then call it back after in order to boost the Hunter (in terms of attack, health, speed or defense). The Kinsect is always found at the right arm of the user if it isn't currently being used to attack
- #29selective
Keys: Charge Blade · Secondary: CB
Charge Blades, also known as CB. It is similar to the Switch Axe with its ability to switch between two different weapon modes. While in Sword Mode, hunters will be able to perform fast combo attacks with a sword and guard with a shield, making it very similar to the Sword and Shield class. The Axe Mode boasts superior reach and power with its strikes. After scoring a number of hits, it is possible to perform a powerful charge attack with either mode. A phial on the hilt indicates when it is possible to unleash a charge attack by glowing with a yellow light. If the player continues accumulating hits, the phial will eventually begin glowing red, allowing the hunter to unleash an even stronger charge attack
- #30selective
Keys: Light Bowgun · Secondary: LBG
Light Bowguns, also known simply as LBG, are ranged weapons. As the name suggests, they are light enough to allow Hunters to run with the weapon drawn as well as taking very short to sheath and unsheath. However, Light Bowguns are generally low in attack power, although this is partially compensated by different Light Bowguns being able to Rapid-Fire a specific Ammo (Rapid-Fire shoots multiple rounds in quick succession, using only one shell of ammo).
- #31selective
Keys: Heavy Bowgun · Secondary: HBG
Heavy Bowguns (ヘビィボウガン Hebyibōgan), also known as HBG, are ranged weapons that deal considerable damage, but due to their size and weight, do not allow Hunters to run when drawn. Heavy Bowguns are able to use a wide range of Ammo. Since Monster Hunter 2, Hunters are able to equip Heavy Bowguns with a Shield, for blocking monster attacks. Equipping a Power Barrel will obviously increase attack power.
- #32selective
Keys: Bow
The Bow is a fast, unique ranged weapon. An infinite quiver of arrows is automatically provided, although each individual doesn't do a great deal of damage. Bows can fire three different kinds of Shot: Scatter, where the arrows spread horizontally outwards, Pierce, where one arrow travels in a straight line through a monster and hits multiple times - and Rapid, where several arrows are fired and spread out vertically. Each Shot-type can be performed at different levels of power, depending on the individual Bow. To access the different Shots each Bow provides, the weapon must be charged. Bows can also use different Coatings to cause different effects (Paralysis, Sleep, increased Attack power) although each Bow can only use certain Coatings.

Keys: New World
The New World is a continent in the world of Monster Hunter and the setting of Monster Hunter: World. It is situated across from the Old World, separated by a great sea. The New World is only partially explored, and many parts of it remain to be discovered. Just off the northwest coast of the New World lies a landmass known as The Hinterlands, and to the northeast lies the island of the Guiding Lands.
The discovered part of the New World is split into seven main areas, with five arena type areas and three settlements. The southern part of the continent is made up of the Ancient Forest and the Wildspire Waste. The settlement of Astera lies between them. A band of mountains forms a border between these areas and the next two, which are only accessible by the Great Ravine. The Coral Highlands lies between a ring of mountains, and in the air above it is the Research Base, a floating ship used for air travel. Underneath this windy paradise festers the Rotten Vale, a hideous network of miasmic caverns and the corpses of massive Elder Dragons and monsters that come to the Vale to die. Under these mountains there exists a large network of golden and bejewelled caverns home to Kulve Taroth known as the Caverns of El Dorado. To the north is the Everstream, a nexus of bioenergy that feeds the life of the New World. A huge volcanic cavern connected to the sea, this area is burning with bioenergy. The barrier erected to stop the massive Elder Dragon Zorah Magdaros can still be seen emerging from the ocean floor. Connected to the Everstream is the Elder's Recess, where both volcano-dwelling monsters and ageing elder dragons waiting for their time to die can be found. The Confluence of Fates is a cavern beneath a great crystal of congealed bioenergy in the recess and the habitat of the Dark Light Dragon, Xeno'jiiva. Even further north of this is the Guiding Lands, an entire area made of the corpse of a Zorah Magdaros and fuelled by its life-force. To the west is the isle of The Hinterlands, upon which lies the icy area known as the Hoarfrost Reach and the wintery town of Seliana. The mysterious Origin Isle is located here too.

Keys: Guiding Lands
The Guiding Lands is a mysterious area. This area, a mishmash of features from the Ancient Forest, Wildspire Waste, Coral Highlands, Rotten Vale, Elder's Recess, and Hoarfrost Reach, is where powerful monsters gather together. Like Moga Woods and the Everwood, it serves as an area to freely hunt randomly-appearing monsters and obtain unique items.

Keys: Ancient Forest
This area is a thick lush forest that can't easily be traversed by normal means. The Ancient Forest is home to a variety of flora, fauna, and monsters.
Environments As the name implies, the Ancient Forest consists of a massive forest, but is also comprised of clearings close to the coast and a combination of cliffs and massive trees that creates a vast vertical space.
Shorelines This section of the map is comprised of mid-sized grasslands surrounded by the forest, many groups of herbivores can be found here including Aptonoth and the New World's Kestodon, other monsters that frequent this area include Jagras, Great Jagras, Kulu-Ya-Ku and Anjanath, who wander around these parts in search of food.
Lower Forest The lower forest is thick and lush with greenery, which provides the perfect environment for Pukei-Pukei to camouflage itself, Great Jagras, Tobi-Kadachi, Rathian and Anjanath also wander these parts, this is a great location for collecting plants and mushrooms and groups of Mosswine can be found, many sections of this area contain bodies of water where Gajau can be seen.
High Forest/Ancient Tree High in the cliffs and branches of massive trees, one can find the nests of wyverns such as Rathalos, most monsters found in the shorelines or the lower forest don't come here unless provoked, and they'll generally attempt to flee if the King of the Skies Rathalos, or another powerful monster makes its entrance.

Keys: Wildspire Waste
This area is a vast desert with muddy marshes, twisted canyons, branching caverns, and sandy dunes. Few monsters are adapted to this harsh environment.
- #37selective
Keys: Coral Highlands
It consists of a vast landscape like that of the ocean floor, the most notorious feature is the many species of coral, as its name implies. This area is comprised of steep cliffs that form a highland, hunters will traverse the colorful highlands and ominous lower levels to achieve their objectives.
Environments The coral highlands can be divided into the lower section, featuring dark paths among gigantic cliffs, and the highlands, featuring more open areas atop the cliffs.
Lower Section This section is comprised of many branching paths mostly comprised of sand supported by coral. Shamos and Tzitzi-Ya-Ku roam here, keeping themselves to the shadows of the cliffs, commonly clashing for prey such as Kelbi and -presumably- Wigglers. Odogaron sometimes pass through here when carrion is not enough, intending to reach the highlands for more substantial prey.
Highlands Featuring open areas comprised of sand and a few coral platforms, the highlands are the perfect place for monsters such as Paolumu, Legiana and Pink Rathian. It is here that Odogaron can rarely be found clashing with other large monsters, with groups of Raphinos also calling this section their home, with the rare Kirin appearing here on occasion.

Keys: Rotten Vale
This area is an inhospitable valley littered with the corpses of dead monsters.
Description The Rotten Vale is a massive area covered in the rotting bones of Elder Dragons and other monsters that have come there to die. It sits at the bottom of the Coral Highlands, though perhaps it is more accurate to say the Coral Highlands grows from the Rotten Vale.
Environments The Rotten Vale can be divided into three sections; the third being much smaller in size.
Upper Section The upper area near the starting camp is fairly open and mostly inhabited by Radobaan, Hornetaur, and Vespoid. It is mostly made up of large bony structures.
Deeper Section The area that can be reached by jumping from the upper section has numerous Girros. Of course, their leader Great Girros lives here, while Odogaron and Radobaan can also be found in the upper and deeper portions of this zone, respectively. In addition, the second camp is located in this section. Effluvium is a big problem from the first portions to the deepest parts of this section. The corpses of Raphinos and, very rarely, Legiana will occasionally fall to this area.
Acid Pools and the Depths The depths of the Rotten Vale has acid that can damage hunters. The dens of Odogaron and Vaal Hazak can be found here.

Keys: Elder Recess
It is a volcanic environment covered in the crystallized bioenergy of Elder Dragons.
Crystal Heights This half of the locale is comprised of basalt-based rocks making up the ground, as well as a high peak like structure dominating the top of the area. Many crystals formed from pure bioenergy dot this area. Monster such as Kurdanoth, Dodogama and Uragaan comb this area for food, whether it be rocks or Neopterons. Apex predators like Stygian Zinogre and Magnamalo also roam here, looking for easy prey. Dalamadur left this area alone save for a large hole leading down to the lower regions of the Recess.
Volcanic Caverns This half of the locale is made of lava and magma, both hardened and molten, with ore being plentiful in certain areas. Here are seen monsters such as Shogun Ceanataur, Scoxinis and Uragaan, roaming about and searching for food, such as minerals or small monsters like Vespoid or Gastodon. The larger monsters that reside here, such as Pyre Gryaztora, Obsidian Gammoth and Rathalos fight constantly for dominion over this territory. The caverns have been widened by Dalamadur's passing, allowing monsters of Obsidian Gammoth's size to pass through easily.

Keys: Hoarfrost Reach
This snow-covered region may look too hostile to survive in, but it's teeming with unique endemic life.
Frosty Woods This area is a snow covered forest, with a stream of fresh, clear water running through the middle. It is dominated by evergreen trees and shrubs, and populated by monsters such as Popo, Beotodus and Banbaro. The mighty Garchadon makes its home here, and defends it ferociously from invaders such as Gammoth or Tigrex.
Snowfields These are the large plains of snow and ice dominating the centre of the Hoarfrost Reach, with some plantlife on the edges of the territory and deep snow in others. Some parts are also home to hot springs, which the local creatures such as Anteka, Mira-Ya-Ku and many more are grateful for. Larger monsters fight for their place here, such as Tigrex, Gammoth, Stygian Zinogre and Goss Harag on a regular basis.
Icy Caverns This underground area is is a network of frigid caves, connected through tunnels. Monsters such as Viper Tobi-Kadachi, Joranalus and Fulgur Anjanath frequent this cave, and some even call it their home. Dalamadur left this place intact, some in some places the ceiling can be far more unstable, which can lead to parts collapsing with a little outside effort.
Frigid Mountains The higher areas of the Hoarfrost Reach are dominated by these large mountains, covered in snow and ice, save for one area in particular home to more thermal springs. Monsters such as Frostfang Barioth, Shrieking Legiana and Stygian Zinogre reside here. Off to the side, one can find the entrance to the nesting ground of the Velkhana, shrouded in ice.
