Magic cannot be learned. One is either born with innate magical ability or not. Magic ability is inherent. It is unknown whether the ability to cast magic is hereditary or not.
Magic ability comes from "mana", these are synonymous. Mana is the ability where a mage's soul to engage with and harness the unseen forces in the environment. For example, a dark mage's soul has the ability to draw power from the shadows or the malevolence or other negative emotions, thereby allowing the dark mage to cast black magic spells. For example, an elemental mage has the ability to engage with the elements and summon a lightening storm, etc.
Magic or mana potency is mostly inherent. Magic can be cast with tomes, inscriptions, ritual circles, staves, runes, chants, incantations, purely mental willpower, or bare hands.
Every mage has a unique mana, this is called a "mana signature". A mage can detect the presence of other mages if they are within vicinity by sensing the other mage's "mana presence".

Also known as dark magic. A mage wields black magic if their mana is black. Black magic includes illusion magic, chaos magic, death magic, arcane magic, eldritch magic, necromancy. Black magic cannot heal. Black magic cannot purify. Black magic is mainly for offensive or destructive purposes. Black Magic is not inherently evil but it is being used for evil purposes because the human heart is a dark place.
