Arcane magic is a cosmic power, surrounding Azeroth like a magical sphere empowered by invisble leylines and leyknots which are often a source of power. Weaving magic taps into the filtered Ley surrounding the environment. Unfiltered ley is called Fel and it is highly addictive and corruptive, even more than Ley. There are five laws of magic any mage is taught during their studies: [Magic is powerful. Magic is corrupting. Magic is addicting. Magic draws the denizens of the Twisting Nether to those who wield the arcane. Law of Sympathy: When someone handles an item, they leave a part of their own magical aura attached to it.]

Fel is a dark and corruptive form of energy in the Warcraft universe, primarily associated with demons and dark magic. It is highly destructive and volatile, often harnessed by warlocks and other dark practitioners for its immense power. Fel energy corrupts everything it touches, turning landscapes barren and mutating creatures into twisted, malevolent forms. Fel is the unfiltered arcane, and feared amongst mortals. Filtered Fel which is subject to a mage's study is called Ley and relatively safe to wield.

"Ley" refers to a type of magical energy that flows through the world, particularly concentrated in areas known as "ley lines." Ley energy is a natural, elemental force that suffuses the environment and is often harnessed by magic users, including mages, for various purposes. It is considered a more pure and balanced form of magic. Mages and other spellcasters tap into ley energy to cast spells, perform arcane research, and manipulate the elements. Ley energy is used for a wide range of magical effects, from healing to elemental attacks and illusions. Ley and fel energies are fundamentally opposed in nature. Fel energy is a corruption of the natural order and can taint or disrupt ley lines and ley energy sources.

Demons are malevolent, supernatural beings that come from the Twisting Nether, a chaotic and otherworldly dimension that exists outside the physical universe of Azeroth. Demons are a diverse group, ranging from lesser imp-like creatures to powerful demon lords and overlords. They are not native to the physical plane of Azeroth but can enter it through various means, often through portals or summoning rituals. Demons come in many shapes and sizes, from the small and mischievous imps to towering infernals and dreadlords. They can also be classified into various demon families, such as the Burning Legion, Nathrezim (dreadlords), or Eredar. The primary goal of demons, particularly those affiliated with the Burning Legion, is to spread chaos and destruction across the universe. The Burning Legion is a massive demonic army led by the titan Sargeras, who seeks to purge all life from the cosmos. The Legion's ultimate objective is to erase all order and bring about a state of pure chaos.

The Burning Legion was created and is led by Sargeras, a fallen titan and former champion of order. Sargeras became disillusioned with the corruption and chaos that permeated the universe, and he believed that the only way to restore order was to annihilate all life. To accomplish this goal, Sargeras gathered a vast army of demons and other malevolent beings from the Twisting Nether, forging them into the Burning Legion. The Burning Legion is composed of countless demonic races and species, ranging from lowly imps to powerful dreadlords, pit lords, and even colossal demons like the Pit Lord Mannoroth. Among the most prominent races within the Legion are the Eredar, a once-noble race transformed by Sargeras into powerful demonic entities. Archimonde and Kil'jaeden are two notable Eredar leaders. Notable invasions include the War of the Ancients, during which the Legion sought to corrupt the world's magical Well of Eternity, and during the Burning Crusade where adventurers confronted the Legion's forces on the shattered world of Outland (Draenor).

Magic in Azeroth is potent, making a difference between commoners and rulers. Most races rely on powerful mages and warlocks. The growing use of arcane magic historically precedes disasters. Magic corrupts the soul, breeding pride and arrogance. It ages the caster and corrupts the body. Arcane magic is addictive, leading to a desire for more. Magic draws the Twisting Nether, attracting the Burning Legion. Users must contend with demons and dark forces from the Twisting Nether.

Mages are known for their mastery of the arcane arts, which includes the manipulation of raw magical energy for various purposes, such as casting powerful spells, creating protective wards, and teleporting. The Kirin Tor are essentially a "mage police" which guards knowledge, maintains order, defends Azeroth, investigates anomalies and expands it's political influence as a neutral organisation of elite mages. Mages study the Schools of Arcane Magic: Abjuration, Conjuration, Divination, Enchantment, Illusion, Transmutation, Evocation. Mages use and manage their Mana to cast spells.

Abjuration is the study of protective magic. The most generalized abjuration spell is the mana shield, a spell that transmutes raw mana into a barrier that protects the caster from attacks. Elemental armor spells require far less raw energy than a mana shield and are more easily maintained over time, but lack the raw potency of the mana shield. Ward spells are quick, potent incantations to protect the caster against a form of magical damage, often caused when magic slips out of a mage's control.

    Entry settings

Conjuration is the study of magically creating creatures and objects. There is nothing more enjoyable for a mage than creating a fresh slice of bread or a glass of water. Mages can combine water and air vapors into a water elemental for a short time before they deconstruct into their base liquid forms. The elemental attacks that mages use are a form of conjuration.

    Keys: Divination

    Entry settings

Divination is the school of magic dedicated to gathering information. Powerful divinations can allow the mage to see targets from a great distance, or even view what may normally be invisible. One of the most common uses of divination magic is scrying, which is the art of seeing something that may be far away - perhaps even on another plane of existence. Divination spells can be used to counteract Illusion spells.

Enchantment is the process of imbuing an object - or person - with magical power. Some enchantments are temporary, while others can offer permanent benefits. Disenchanting is the process of dispelling or removing magic. The dispel magic spell is among the most important in a mage's arsenal, as it can potentially reverse the catastrophic effects of a misfired spell. It is also possible to permanently disenchant a magical item. This process produces a unique form of crystallized mana that can be used in the process of imbuing another item with magical abilities. Conjured water elementals could possibly be considered to be water animated by enchantment. Servants of the undead study arcane in order to imbue their weapons and armor with unholy power.

    Entry settings

Illusion is the art of deceiving reality itself. The mists of illusion can make a mage invisible or inaudible to the world or twist the image of a location into something entirely different. Illusion can be used for disguise or manipulation, but spells to counteract illusions exist in the divination school. Illusions can be used to trick your enemies into fighting each other and be used to display several images of a mage's body that are nearly indistinguishable from the caster's real form.

The ninth and final school of magic is transmutation. It is among the most popular and useful of all of the schools, allowing a mage to manipulate time and space. Perhaps the most iconic Transmutation spell is Spell nature "Polymorph", which allows a mage to temporarily turn something - or someone - into something else. It is possible, but unadvised, to increase the intelligence or power of a creature through polymorph, polymorph into exotic creatures, and polymorph inanimate objects. The second most famous use is teleportation. The most basic teleportation spell is Spell arcane "Blink". Attempts to cast a teleportation "on the fly" often result in one very dead mage inside a wall, chair, or another mage. A properly used portal is just as safe as the average zeppelin trip, but frequent use of teleportation wears down the infrastructure of the ley lines. Spells that manipulate time also fall into this category, such as Spell magic "Featherfall", Spell nature "Slow", and spells that increase movement speed. This particular arcane art is known as chronomancy.

Evocation is primarily associated with the casting of spells. Mages and other spellcasting classes use this discipline to harness arcane energies and shape them into a wide range of magical effects, such as offensive spells (fireballs, frostbolts), defensive spells (shields, barriers), and utility spells (teleportation, conjuration). Unlike some other forms of magic that draw upon internal or innate sources of power, evocation involves tapping into external sources of magic. These sources can include ley lines, mana crystals, or even the ambient magical energy present in the environment. Evocation spells are often characterized by their speed and precision. Mages can cast evocation spells relatively quickly, making them effective in combat situations.

Mana is a fundamental and mystical force that permeates the world of Azeroth. It is the essence of magic and the source of power for spellcasters, including mages, warlocks, and other magic users. Mana is closely tied to the natural world and life on Azeroth. It sustains plant life, influences the behavior of magical creatures, and has a role in the cycle of life and death. Mana can be corrupted by dark forces, such as fel energy or the influence of the Burning Legion. Corrupted mana can have destructive and corrupting effects on the land and its inhabitants. Magical societies and organizations, like the Kirin Tor, are dedicated to the study and preservation of mana. They often regulate its use and safeguard important sources of mana. Mana can be roughly understood as a person's willpower, energy and potency to cast magic.

The Kirin Tor is a prominent organization of skilled spellcasters within the Warcraft universe. Composed mainly of mages, they are dedicated to the study and mastery of magic. They seek to understand the arcane arts deeply and to preserve the knowledge and use of magic responsibly. The Kirin Tor acts as both scholars and guardians, regulating the use of magic to prevent its misuse and ensuring that it is used for the greater good. Their seat of power is the mystical city of Dalaran, which they have raised into the skies, serving as a center of magical research, learning, and governance. In times of peril, the Kirin Tor has played a crucial role in protecting Azeroth from magical threats and maintaining the balance of magical forces in the world.

Warlocks, dark spellcasters in the world, specialize in forbidden magics - drawing from fel energy, demons, and shadows. They explore arcane secrets shunned by others, embracing magic's darker facets, even at personal peril. This involves communing with demons, accessing the Twisting Nether, and wielding fel energy. Their defining trait is forging pacts with demons, sealed through blood and rituals, granting them infernal power. Fel energy, a corruptive force, fuels devastating spells that drain life and sow chaos. Combining shadow and fire, they unleash havoc. Dark rituals, sacrifices, and soul shard consumption empower them further. Warlocks chase personal power with disregard for tradition, often straying into darkness. Many societies stigmatize and fear them as dangerous dabblers in forbidden magic.
