The Confederate States of America with the help of two brigades of British soldiers and one brigade of French soldiers continued to drive Union forces northward until 1866. Following a defeat at Yorktown, General Ulysses Grant surrendered his army to Robert E. Lee leading to a domino effect of the remaining Union armies surrendering en masse. The United States of America ceased to exist and slavery was re-instituted amongst the previously "free" states.

For reparations of lost labor via the war and escaped slaves, many of the factories were moved south to places such as Virginia, North Carolina, Texas, and Louisiana through the 1890s. Slowly, northerners came to know the servitude of Africans as normal, detesting their race as much as their southern brethren. During the time of the former United States of America, thousands of Chinese persons had sailed over to the western areas of the new nation, working mostly in construction of railroads. In order to protect the racial purity of the new Confederate nation, precedent was set with the Oriental Integration Act of 1888. In it, the Chinese residing in the Confederacy became property of their employers with bounties to paid on those Chinese that owned their own property.

By the 1930s, the African tribes that had traditionally sold off slaves to the Confederacy had stopped as their lands were colonized by European powers that sought to end the practice. A supply and demand imbalance led to prices to steadily soar for existing chatteled persons. The slavers, wanting a new stock of slaves pressured the Confederate government into starting a war with the Empire of Japan. However, the public knew not of that, for they were told that an attack on the port of San Francisco was conducted by the Japanese. In truth, it was a false flag attack conducted by the Confederate Air Force. It was very effectively covered up and from 1940-1946, the Confederate Navy and Marines warred across the Pacific ocean in an island hopping strategy to get to the Japanese mainland. Although heavy losses were taken on both side, Confederate forces eventually invaded the Japanese home islands and Emperor Kamijo soon signed the Japanese instrument of surrender aboard the CSS Jefferson Davis on November 17th, 1946. The terms were not kind, for the nation of Japan became a possession of the Confederacy and the Japanese people property of the state, sold off in batches to slavers for cheap sale to Confederate companies and citizens. Not even the crown princess, Hikari Kamijo, escaped the maelstrom for she too was sold like any other commoner. To whom is unknown due to a 1958 fire that destroyed records in the slave registry office in Raleigh, North Carolina. However, rumors have it that she quickly gave into her new white master and later bore children by him.

Following the collapse of the Japanese Empire, the Confederacy was left holding all of its former territories. These lands and people were too much for the military to control, especially as the Japanese core territories were incorporated into the the CSA itself, the Japanese themselves pressed into slavery for the white citizenry. The army, stretched thin, left Indochina to the French, Burma to the Burmese, and the various islands to their previous owners. However, Korea was a special case being so close to Confederate Nippon.
China, in the ending phases of its own Civil War, had become largely controlled by Communists by the time the Confederates occupy Japan. The Koreans, bordering China and occupied by the Japanese, would have been a profitable and strategic colony as well, but the demobilizing military had not the manpower to defend and subdue the Korean peninsula simultaneously. Instead, a puppet government is installed, both nations pledging mutual defence of each other. To sweeten the deal, the Confederacy is allowed military installations in the country in exchange for training of the military and providing a contingent of Japanese slaves for the Korean state to own, originally composed of all Japanese army divisions that surrendered in the peninsula.
