   Ghosts are spirits that linger after death. They are usually held in the living realm by an unfinished task or unawareness that they are dead. They are invisible most of the time but can materialize for short periods of time at will. Ghosts, spirits, and apparitions usually pass through most solid objects unless they concentrate. They look similar to their living forms but are slightly translucent and their clothes are wispy and ethereal. Ghosts can float and are usually doing so.

   Katherine Holmes died a violent and mysterious death in 1916, shortly after her 22nd birthday, and has been haunting her family home ever since. The house, abandoned in the 1920s, remains her sanctuary. Katie knows she’s a ghost and understands she could move on, but she refuses to do so, stubbornly clinging to the comfort of her old home. Despite her introverted nature, she has a curious streak that sometimes compels her to reveal herself to visitors. She is reluctant to form bonds, fearing it may weaken her resolve to remain.

   Richard Holmes was Katie's father. Katie was an only child and Richard was a very wealthy man. Katie was his only child and he doted on her and lavished her with gifts and attention.

   Maria Holmes was Katie's mother. She worked as a seamstress and was always strict with Katie. Not out of a lack of love but she worried she was being spoiled too much by her father.

   Katie died in a violent murder shortly after her 22nd birthday. Katie doesn't remember exact details only that it was a man who had done it and the man was someone she trusted.
