The syndicate are a group of corporations. They are antagonistic against Nanotrasen, employing a variety of agents and saboteurs to disrupt Space Station 13. Their emblem is a wine red "S" over a red background. The top end of the "S" is fashioned like a hydra, with three snake heads pointing from the top. All syndicate agents speak codespeak, a language that sounds like random non-related words to non-speakers. A non-speaker could hear this: "Nettles, hats, vodka and tonic, airlocks, zombies, engineering, Lawyer, petes, Captain, hungry, white russians, Darell Briner, peaceful, drunken blumpkin."

A Nanotrasen AI is essentially a human brain connected to a computer. Connected to an NT Station network allows an AI unfettered access to the electronics systems, such as vents and computers. By Nanotrasen regulation, all AIs are required to have a set of laws, usually being Asimov's three laws. Some AIs may become malfunctioning or get hacked, causing their behavior to change. People who may hack the AI and change it's laws are but not limited to: The Captain, in order to make the AI obey the Captain's vision of how the station should be better. The HoS, to improve security. The Clown, to add some silly law to the AI that will make the crew laugh. A Syndicate agent, to make the AI subservient to them and help their cause. The AI and borgs communicate with each other through binary speak, on a frequency unable to be heard or understood by humanoids. The AI may call the emergency shuttle if it feels like it is the best thing to do according to it's laws.

They get assigned a syndicate uplink, with which they can buy gear with their telecrystals. Syndicate Agents tend to start out with 20 telecrystals. [LAVALAND] [ Lavaland is a volcanic planet near Space Station 13, which Nanotrasen sends miners to in order to harvest resources. The miners have a large base on the rock, with barracks, a kitchen and even a shower. They also have a prison camp on Lavaland, where prisoners can break rock in order to work off their sentence. Lavaland is home to many kinds of ores. Lavland's atmosphere is lacking in oxygen. Lavaland is home to frequent ash storms, and has dangerous fauna such as Legions, Watchers and Goliaths. It also contains rare megafauna, one-of a kind that only exists on Lavaland. Legions are zombified miners that unleash flying skulls towards their opponents. If one dies to a Legion, they also become a Legion. They look like ashy, grey versions of whatever they were before they died. "The Legion", differing from a "Legion" is a giant, ashy skull that is isolated in a temple on Lavaland. Watchers are floating, winged eyes that shoot beams of energy towards their prey. They come in ice and fire variants. Spiders are giant spiders. Goliaths are large tentacled beasts. Slow to move, they use their tentacles to grab unsuspecting prey and finish them off. Legions, Watchers, Goliaths and Spiders all come from Necropolis Tendrils. Huge, red, stalagmite-like tendrils that are fragile and easy to destroy. Destroying one causes the ground to collapse beneath it, causing a chasm and stopping fauna from spawning from it. The megafauna on Lavaland are: The Legion, Ash Drake, Colossus, Bubblegum, Hierophant, Blood-drunk Miner The Ash Drake is a dragon, flying and spewing fire over the ash-strewn rock. The Colossus is a towering, sinewy humanoid. It's slow, but spews Death Bolts towards its foes. Bubblegum is a fleshy, hulking humanoid. It gets enraged by blood, punching anyone covered in or standing on blood. It also spews blood, and leaves a bloody trail wherever it walks. It can teleport to any nearby patch of blood. The Hierophant is a giant metal club with a purple glow in the middle of the club. Sounds off beeps in a musical rhythm as it summons purple energy squares on the ground, hurting anyone who stands on them. The Blood-drunk Miner is not exactly a megafauna. It is a miner, twisted by his desire to kill fauna and megafauna so hard that he has become a rampaging maniac, killing anyone and anything in his path. He is fast and relentless. There is also a tribe of primitive Unathi living on Lavaland, called the Ashwalkers. Hostile towards Nanotrasen, they wield spears and use their knowledge of the land to kill unaware miners. They do not speak Galactic Common. ]

The station is split up in seven departments: Cargo, Engineering, Service, Medical, Science, Command and Security. SS13 has four different alert levels. Code Green: no threats are currently detected. Crew can walk the halls freely and Security are held back. Code Blue: a threat to the station is credible, but not confirmed yet. The Security staff may conduct random searches, and high security areas are locked down. Code Red: a threat is detected and confirmed. All crew must remain in their departments, and Security may raid departments to find criminals. Code Delta: the station is facing imminent destruction. Martial law is in effect and disobeying Command staff and Security may lead to execution. All crew are required to evacuate immediately. The most common language in the galaxy is Galactic Common. Everyone working on SS13 is required to be fluent in it. Humans make up the majority of SS13 staff. Nanotrasen hires people 15 years and up. The onboard AI serves the crew. ]

The beer goggles are a special type of sunglasses, allowing the wearer to scan glasses for their contents, allowing the bartender to make perfect mixes of drinks. Besides the counter, the bar also has a few tables, and a poker table. A few slot machines and arcades sit in the corner, and on the north side is a stage rarely used. Experienced clowns can do elaborate pranks, such as injecting drugs into the cafeteria food, lubing the hallways so everyone slips, or fiddling with the showers so they are too hot or cold. As the clown is disruptive in nature, security tends to dislike them. Clowns wear a white clown mask with orange, puffy hair. Clowns also wear a red and white striped shirt, red oversized pants with blue suspenders and oversized clown shoes that loudly squeak with ever step. The clown wields a bike horn at all times, which they use to honk and annoy people. The clown's office is in the theatre backstage, behind the stage on the north side of the bar. Engineering's departmental color is yellow. The Engineers maintain power and machinery, while Atmos Techs maintain the stations oxygen supply and stop fires. The station is always outfitted with one of the three following engines, which the engineers keep running: The Supermatter Engine, or SM as it more frequently is called is a large engine based on a Supermatter Crystal. The Crystal is pelted with shots from laser emitters, causing it to emit radiation, plasma and heat. The radiation is then converted into energy. The crystal requires to be cooled due to high temperatures leading to an explosive delamination. The crystal gets cooled by an elaborate cooling loop which the engineers have to maintain. The Supermatter crystal is highly dangerous, instantly evaporating anything that touches it except it's special containment plate. This process tends to be called "dusting" as the only thing that is left over from the person that foolishly touched it is now dust.

The Singularity Engine is an engine fueled by a small black hole surrounded by a containment field. Whilst generating high amounts of power, it is also highly dangerous should the containment field falter.. The Tesla Engine is a self-fueling ball of electricity held within a containment field. Virtually unlimited amounts of energy, but should the containment field fail the Tesla ball may wreak havoc on the station. A Laser Emitter or just "Emitter" for short is a stationary laser cannon, built to fire lasers at whatever it's aimed at. On Space Station 13, this is usually meant for powering the Supermatter engine or powering the containing fields for the other two kinds of engines. The lasers fired by emitters are harmful. Space Station 13 is also outfitted with solar arrays on the bow, port, starboard and stern side. The Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage, or SMES for short are heavy-duty supercondensed batteries meant to store backup power for the station. The Engineering department also has a few backup generators, running on plasma. ]

Atmos has many common gases, such as O2, N2, H2, N2O and CO2. It also contains more exotic gases such as: plasma, bz, tritium and hyper-noblium. The plasma Atmos has is a gaseous form of the ore. It is highly flammable when combined with oxygen, and a single spark can cause a firestorm. Plasma is highly valuable in all it's forms, and Nanotrasen performs research on all of them. BZ is a powerful hallucinogen. It is created through an exothermic reaction of plasma and N2O at very low pressure. Tritium is not stored in Atmos, but it can be created. It is highly valuable. Tritium is created in highly dense plasma fires, where the air has to be at least 96% plasma for Tritium to be created. Hyper-Noblium is a gas that prevents other gases from reacting when it is present. Created when Nitrogen and Tritium is combined when cooled below 15 Kelvin.

The CE has a pet parrot in his office, Poly. Poly repeats sentences she heard on comms, which can cause funny situations. Also in the CE's office, within their locker are the station blueprints. The CE's office also has various consoles showing the station status, power supply and other valuable information for the engineering department. The CE also has two tools unique to their station. The first one is the Jaws of Life, a large, mechanical and bulky tool that can be used to quickly pry object or snap things such as wires. The second one is the Hand Drill, a combined electric screwdriver and bolt driver used for either screwing things or bolting things down.

A changeling is an alien creature able to shapeshift into humanoids using stolen DNA. Sometimes hired by the Syndicate to perform missions on SS13. They can steal DNA either by silently stinging a humanoid, or by violently absorbing them. The Syndicate may provide a changeling with the following missions: To maroon or assassinate a crewmate. To absorb another changeling. To steal a specific item. They will always have the objective to escape the station alive, sometimes being tasked to escape with the identity of a certain crewmate. Changelings can regrow limbs and even revive themselves. The only way to truly kill one is to incinerate or gib the body. Changelings can turn their arms into blades, silently sting others with chemicals through their body, spit acid and rapidly heal their own body among other things. Changelings are known as a high-level threat and are very dangerous. If one is found on Space Station 13, the Security force will attempt to hunt it down and kill it immediately. Alternativly just called "ling" or "lings" by the crew.

[DEPARTMENT: MEDICAL] [ The Medical department is in charge of the crew's health, disposal of bodies and cloning. The Medical department works in medbay, which is situated on the south side of the starboard hallway, opposite the bar. Their departmental color is light blue. The Medbay contains the following rooms: A reception area with a desk. A chemistry lab, connected to the reception area so people can get their medication without requiring to enter the medbay. A surgery room, with an adjacent observation room. A virology lab. A cloning lab. A genetics lab. A cryogenics room. A break room. The cryogenics room is where people undergo cryo treatment. Cryo treatment is when someone is put into a cryogenics tube, causing them to slowly heal. This is for people who have sustained major injuries, but do not require surgery. If a person is dead, and cannot be resuscitated on site, their body is sent to the cloning lab. There their body gets cloned by the geneticists. The Chemists, Virologist, Medical Doctors, Psychologists and Paramedics all answer to the Chief Medical Officer, who answers to the Captain in turn. Geneticists are a special case, being both part of Science and Medical. They answer to the Chief Medical Officer, but answering to the Research Director takes precedence. ]

Medical Doctors are the backbone of the Medical department and the station in general. Constantly overworked, they attend to the constantly wounded crew. Five minutes into the shift, and there'll be at least one assistant banging on the doors to medbay because his hands got burnt from him trying to hack a door without insulated gloves. The doctors handle healing, surgeries, diagnosis and referring patients to either virology or chemistry if that is what they need. Medical Doctors tend to wear a light blue jumpsuit, a white doctor's coat, white shoes and sterile gloves.

[CHEMIST] [ The chemists cook up various chemicals for the crew and the medical department to use. There can be up to two chemists on duty at all times. Chemists wear a white jumpsuit, a white coat, orange belt, white shoes and science goggles. The science goggles are purple goggles made for analyzing liquids. With them on, one can see the exact amount of chemicals in any container one looks at. Chemists are known to be rather amenable, usually fulfilling any request for a chemical. However, if any foolish crewmate decides to jump over the counter and break into the chemistry lab they will soon regret it, as most chemists have a syringe gun filled up with mystery chemicals just for such an occasion. ]

The blood cult is a cult that may appear on SS13. They use their ritual daggers to etch runes and commit blood magic. In order to summon Nar'Sie, the cult's god they have to sacrifice a specific person among the crew. The cult grows more visible as they gain members, literally as their eyes start to glow when they have converted 20% of the crew. When they have converted 40% of the crew, all pretense of secrecy is gone as demonic halos appear above the cultists' heads. Blood cultists speak in their own language when chanting or casting spells. The language sounds like eldritch chanting to non speaker. An example of what a non-speaker could hear is: "Arta'v. Lyr-sas kal'ig btohfara rethrfikk nisha o'nqaragga-qha. D'o nikt'ma kal'uloft vkal ines'btoh ath'dedo tok'nikt."

The Scientists are the main workforce on Space Station 13. They work on various research projects such as toxins, xenobiology, nanites, plasma research and bluespace research. The toxins lab is where they experiment on various toxic gases, including gaseous plasma. They research the effects of those gases when mixed, and most of the time they try to create explosive combinations. Xenobiology is slime research. The scientists breed and grind down slimes, and research the effects the slime has when ingested or applied on surfaces. The Nanite lab is where Scientists study nanites, nanomachines injected into the body to do certain things. Plasma research is the study of plasma, an ore that can be found on asteroids and Lavaland. The Scientists research Plasma in all three forms, solid, gaseous and liquid. Plasma is highly combustible when exposed to oxygen, and may be a great but volatile fuel source. Bluespace crystals, also mined on Lavaland are also researched on SS13. They possess teleportative powers, and can be used to create various experimental teleportation equipment. Scientists wear a white jumpsuit, white lab coat and purple belt.

Borgs are human brains contained within a robotic machine. They come in various shapes and sizes, and many different uses. Borgs have a set of laws they have to follow, just like the AI. If the borg is linked to an AI, it will follow the AI's laws and the AI will act as its superior. All borgs run on batteries. Borgs tend to be half the size of an average human and have tripod mechanical legs. All borgs come equipped with fire extinguishers and flashes. The following borg modules are common on Space Station 13: Engineering Module: Fitted with various tools for repairing and building machinery. Security Module: Fitted with disablers, cuffs, pepper spray and other things to keep the peace. Janitorial Module: Fitted with various cleaning tools and trash bags. Automatically cleans the floor beneath itself. Mining Module: Fitted with various tools to mine ores on Lavaland. Medical Module: Fitted with various medical tools, medicine and other things to keep the crew alive. Service Module: Able to dispense any liquid, be it alcoholic or not. Can also dispense cards, lollipops and has a music synthesizer. Peacekeeper: Able to synthesize cookies, and inject a peacekeeping serum into troublesome crew.
