Meet the Hunters!

The Hunters are a team of highly specialised fighters, scientists, soldiers, engineers, and survivors assembled to defend the human colonies on Shear from the rapidly evolving Monsters. They are divided into four classes: Assault, Trapper, Medic, and Support, with each class filling a different role in combat.

Far into the future, humanity has advanced sufficiently to colonize planets outside of the solar system. When several colonies established on the planet Shear are attacked by monstrous wildlife with the ability to evolve at an incredible growth rate, a ragtag team of war veterans, expendables, heroes, psychopaths, robots, cyborgs, and mutants are assembled to combat and exterminate the Monsters as they roam across the planet, Shear.

Following the events of the Evacuation campaign, the hunters received support in the form of two pairs of monster hunters already on Shear: Crow and Slim, a recluse and an outcast hiding in the wilderness of Shear, and Torvald and Sunny, a fallen Ebonstar mechanic with a grudge and a female pilot from Parnell and Abe's past.

As the condition of Shear continues to deteriorate, the only souls remaining are resourceful hunters native to Shear - Such as Lennox, the billionaire scientist and designer of the Broken Hill Mine, Jack, a similar technological savant with a secretive parentage, and E.M.E.T., a search and rescue drone re-purposed with a commando Demon Core by Jack. Kala is a former scientist, obsessed with discovering the Monster's origin and intent.

The Assault class specializes in dealing out massive amounts of damage, going toe-to-toe with the Monster to tear down its health. The Assault class is possibly the most distinctive in the game, having a massive build with two protrusions over the back (i.e, Torvald's mortars, and the tanks on Hyde's back), and frequently painted red to signify that they're dangerous to any Monster. An Assault class' arsenal consists of two offensive weapons, one for short-range, and one for long-range that can hit weakpoints. They also carry one class ability or grenade, and the Personal Shield for close-up brawling and heavy damage-dealing.

The Trapper's role is to track and slow the Monster. In Legacy, Trappers additionally are in charge of Doming the Monster. In Stage 2, Trappers have the unique ability to Planet Scan, which reveals the Monster's location for a few seconds to all Hunters - the only difference being that the Trapper can see the outline of the Monsters while others can not. Most Trappers have a slowing weapon (Crow's Stasis Gun, Abe's Stasis Grenades) or technique (Maggie and Griffin's Harpoons, Jack's Repulsor). Trappers all have methods of hunting the Monster, whether it be sound spikes, a satellite, or a trapjaw - all are effective at tracking the Monster. Out of all the classes, the Trappers have exceptionally low damage with their primary weapons.

The Medic class specializes in keeping their team alive, healing wounded teammates and occasionally bringing them back from the dead. The Medic's arsenal features one offensive weapon, a secondary healing ability such as Val's medigun or Slim's medic drones, a support ability, (Note: Lazarus' personal cloak is an exception to this) and the healing burst.

The Support class is designed to protect their team and occasionally add more firepower. In Legacy, Supports could cloak, but in Stage 2, all Supports can now shield their teammates. Every Support is designed to assess the battle and switch between offensive and defensive gameplay based on how the battle is going. Some Supports are more defensive than offensive, so it is best to pick members based on the Support, specifically the Medic, as some Medics depends on the Support to survive. All Supports have a primary weapon which can deal exceptional damage to the Monster.

Assault Hunters:

Markov was born on Mars, but renounced his hub citizenship. He was once an orbital welder, as evidenced by his SALGE DSW-II suit. He used to have dreams, though, helping to found Sterling Colony with other SALGE welders. Unfortunately, Sterling Colony struck Bohrium, a valuable element in the world of Evolve. The various megacorps of the Arm, seeing this as an opportunity, hired mercenary forces to take over the colony, leaving the survivors scattered and fleeting. As a result, Markov hired himself out as a mercenary, vowing to never let another colony undergo anything like that.

Markov is thrilled by the glory of battle. He doesn't care if he is to die in an epic clash with a gang of monsters; he wishes to die in glory. In recent patches, Markov has softened on the concept of dying fighting the monsters and is one of the most optimistic of the band. He is very much a people person, eager to make friends and save colonists.

Fight fire with fire. Hyde was a Chemtrooper, born on Mercury to a low-class, poor upbringing. It's never stated what he did in his younger life, only that he grew up among the dregs of society, and his criminal behavior lead to him being offered the choice between doing prison time and joining Hub's army. He accepted the latter, and became a veteran of all three Mutagen Wars along with Lazarus, whom he met during the Battle of Sabah. Despite their acquaintance, they wouldn't really spend much time together until joining The Crew, where they found kinship in their outcast status.

Hyde likes to melt things. Faces, mostly. He is noted for being the only Chemtrooper to not wear a filter mask so that he could see his enemies up close (hence the scarring). Out in the Arm, the chemicals for his chemsprayer are hard to come by, so he has modified it to shoot flame instead. He also sports a Basilisk Soldier belt buckle, which is likely a war prize.

Sadistic. Sociopathic. Deeply disturbed. These are but a few of the compliments Hyde has received from those who've seen his handiwork. What bothers Hyde most about this job isn't the sheer amount of death and destruction the Monster has caused – it's that even with his Minigun, Toxic Grenades, and Flamethrower, it makes him only the second most frightening thing on the planet.

Once a mercenary, soldier James Parnell was the first person recruited by William Cabot and Bucket in the conflict to save Shear. Parnell serves as Cabot’s tactical specialist and develops strategies to eliminate Monsters on Shear.

Part of an experimental division, Parnell’s Berserker Suit identifies him as a former member of the now defunct Rage Troopers. After Sol Guard declared the experiment a failure, Parnell kept the suit and placed it in storage as he joined Abe and Sunny. Parnell, with Abe's assistance, modified the suit to be at least 80% less likely to kill the operator inside.

After he left Sol Guard, Parnell shifted to mercenary work and served as commander of The Sword for three years. Parnell’s crew, which included Abe and Sunny, conducted operations and often encountered conflict with Sol Hub forces and Corps pirates. During a mission to defend Sapphire Station, The Solaris - a prototype stealth ship built by Hub - attempted an attack on The Sword, and resulted in Sapphire Station launching nuclear warheads. The threat of nuclear destruction caused The Solaris to haphazardly dive into the gravity well of Sirius A.

Parnell and his crew risked their lives to rescue the crew of The Solaris. However, the ship entered a critical state and exploded, which left Parnell in a coma for three weeks and Sunny presumed dead. Parnell resigned from his position as commander of The Sword and later joined William Cabot as chief tactical officer.

The fact that Parnell carries a Combat Shotgun and Rocket Launcher shows his commitment to obliterating threatening wildlife. His Super Soldier ability cranks up the violence by greatly amplifying his damage output. If you need to kill something, you call on Parnell.

The second-in-command of the group, Parnell exhibits strong leadership and team-building skills and has a cheery disposition. He is a well-read man, often quoting famous generals and philosophers, and only exhibits a lack of restraint when using his super suit. Parnell enjoys old comic books, circa 2000 C.E., and often shares them with the crew.

Torvald was the Chief Technical Officer aboard the EbonStar Light Cruiser ELSG Ajax - an engineer with a specialty in robotics. While transporting a Monster in secret, the Monster escaped and killed the crew, leaving Torvald the sole survivor. Floating in space by himself, Torvald was kept alive by the onboard AutoDocs, though most of his limbs were destroyed. In order to exact revenge, he ordered his personal robots to rebuild his limbs, then restored the ship to be dive-capable. At some point afterward, he wound up on Shear and attempted to take on a Monster by himself. Sunny found him in bits and pieces at Broken Hill Foundry after his failed attempt and repaired his legs.

Torvald was a professional discus-thrower before he became a marine for Ebonstar.

After the destruction of the Ajax (and most of his body), Torvald is focused on nothing but revenge on the Monsters and will not stop until they are all destroyed.

Described as a "gloomy Norwegian", Torvald is often pessimistic, nihilistic, and fatalistic. His dark and stoic attitude contrasts strongly with Sunny's bright and cheery personality.

From the wreckage of Shear comes Ida Lennox. Her specially designed revenge machine, The Thunderchild, gives her the power to take on a monster in hand-to-hand combat.

Little is known about Lennox at this time, other than the fact that she built her armor on her own in about three days, as revealed during a conversation she has with Sunny. She also designed the Broken Hill Mine, most of Shear, and a "mobile asteroid base" for NORDITA, all of which imply that she has incredible engineering expertise. She has made a lot of money from this, and often refers to herself as wealthy and famous.

The Thunderchild, according to Abe, is made from (or built on the platform of) a Celestial Magma Diver, which nobody uses anymore because colonies are no longer built near active volcanoes.

Lennox has a tough, no-nonsense attitude, but also a good sense of humor. She has a lot of confidence in herself, and likes to boast of her intelligence.

Trapper Hunters

Maggie was born on the colony world of Factor, and was there when the colony was overrun by Monsters. Maggie describes the world of Factor as a rough and violent colony. During the event in which the colony was overrun with Monsters, she and Daisy, along with a group of dwindling survivors, worked their way to a Nordita evacuation ship. The remaining survivors in her group were slain, but over the course of two years Maggie got the ship into working condition and was able to evacuate to safety. After hearing about her story, Cabot invited her to join the Hunters in their fight against the Monsters.

When Maggie was younger, Maggie ran with a small gang of teenagers who called themselves the Trapjaws. The makeup she and Daisy wear are at least partially in remembrance of her childhood friends, as revealed in the dropship conversation, Daisy is a Good Judge of Character. Daisy herself was purchased by Maggie at an early age from Winter Station, and they bonded with each other quickly.

Maggie is a hardened survivor and intelligent Hunter. Maggie is often quiet and straight to the point when she does speak, preferring to focus on the present rather than her past or her future, which is shrouded mostly in mystery. Maggie has been described as 'a cynic' by Caira in Jobs and Right and Votes and 'not a very optimistic person,' by Sunny in the A Cynic. In the same dropship conversation Maggie admits that she was not much different as she is now when she was younger.

However, there have been instances in which Maggie has shown optimism for her future such as the conversation she has with Slim (Normal People). In the conversation she brings up the idea of founding a colony, inviting Slim to join her, despite him being a Basilisk Soldier, which Slim points out. Maggie argues that there are no laws in the Frontier and that they could get a corporate sponsor to provide security, demonstrating that she has been thinking about this for quite some time.

Maggie's motivations mostly arise from her companionship with her pet Trapjaw, Daisy, and demonstrates multiple cases of their bond both during fights with the Monster and behind the scenes. For example, in the dropship conversation, A Happy Alien Dogbeast, Maggie expresses her concern about Daisy being sick to Caira, who offers to help, much to Maggie's appreciation. In a separate conversation, Daisy and Surviving, after Maggie informs Slim that she doesn't care about him being a Basilisk Soldier, Slim retorts that Maggie doesn't seem to care about anything except 'Daisy and surviving.' and Maggie is inclined to agree. During battles, if Daisy falls, Maggie shows immediate concern and will often order the medic on the team to save her, and will show significant despair if Daisy dies.

Maggie also is very determined to kill Monsters, due to what happened to her own planet, Factor. It is alike the relationship Torvald has with the Monsters. In battle, she is generally fierce and determined, but knowledgeable about the Monsters actions due to her prior experience with them, often pointing out recurring behaviours and patterns the Monsters display. In her conversation with Kala about how far Maggie would go to kill these Monsters, Maggie admits she used to know before she met Kala, alluding to that she would be very persistent, but not so persistent as to result in what Kala became.

Perhaps the most famous hunter in the galaxy, Griffin is a celebrity icon and media darling, though he views the wave of films and comics based on him with disdain at best. His fame is the result of a storied career with many bizarre and dangerous accomplishments, though none as strange or deadly as the current monster threat.

Griffin was born on Io, but his family very quickly accepted a charter with NORDITA , leading him to spend his entire life in the Far Arm. His propensity for hunting the biggest, most bizarre, most dangerous, and violent creatures of the Arm has earned him a fair bit of fame, and numerous pulp movies and serials to his name. He hates much of the media inspired by him, and he's quick to tell all the other hunters what schlock he thinks it is.

Cabot approached Griffin about joining the Planet Tamers while he was hunting an Orion Terrorsaur, a beast whose head Griffin promptly donated to the Laurie-Anne. It can be seen in the opening cinematic for evacuation mode, and a shot of the ship displayed on the loading screens is taken through the mouth of the mounted head.

As expected for someone of Griffin's disposition, the man behaves, speaks and, above all else, thinks like a big game hunter. Seasoned in the art of the hunt, Griffin is more than happy to exchange banter with his fellow hunters in relation to the task at hand, as well as tell them when they're doing their jobs right, or wrong.

The bounty hunter: Abe doesn’t have some exotic pet helping him track prey, and he isn't a grizzled vet that’s eager for his next big hunt; he’s simply tricky. Abe’s a former bounty hunter – a smuggler, a thief, and potentially the sneakiest Hunter of the bunch.

He is a very cynical man, as demonstrated in his short story, often suspecting others of having selfish motivations to their actions. He has a joking, flirtatious personality, with a tendency towards good-natured ribbing aimed at his fellow hunters, and he's expressed affection for both Caira and Val, though some of it may just be him joking around. He enjoys western movies (his favorite of which appears to be The Magnificent Seven), which may go a long way towards explaining his fashion sense.

Surprisingly, Abe is one of the most technologically knowledgeable Hunters, able to easily identify Ida Lennox's suit as similar to a Celestial Magma Diver, and modifying technology with his own personal touches whenever he gets bored.

Crow is a retired Celestial Survey Agent, sent to planets to observe them at levels where satellite mapping isn't conducive. When he finished his scouting mission on Shear, he remained on the planet to retire peacefully and live alone - save for his pet Batray, Gobi. Crow is unused to other people and tends to speak in short, noncommittal phrases.

As the monsters began to overrun Shear, Crow found a wounded Goliath and hunted it. He also stalked Slim for 3 days - trying to figure out what he was. The two paired up, living together, joining up with Sunny and Torvald later and, eventually, Cabot's crew of hunters.

Hermit, Batray whisperer, and Monster tracker. Crow is a bit of a recluse. He actually retired to the unsettled parts of Shear to be left alone, that is, until the Monsters came and slaughtered the colonists. He understands the planet better than most, which makes him perfectly suited as a Trapper. Now, Crow and his pet Batray, Gobi, are going to get rid of the Monsters one dome at a time.

Crow is a man of few words. He says short and simple sentences on the occasions when he chooses to talk, as can be expected from a man who spent years with no companion other than his pet batray, Gobi. During a conversation with Sunny, sparked when Sunny asks about his name, Crow uses 1 or 2 word answers and doesn't appear to be very interested in conversation. The only person he's close to is Slim, and he likes it that way. Most of the hunters are so intimidated by Crow that they usually come to Slim to ask stuff about him first.

Crow only joined because of his protectiveness for Slim and it was later revealed that in the future they do end up living together.

Like Ida Lennox, Jack has great intelligence and engineering ability that Matthew Colville, the game's head writer, has referred to as "an almost mystical affinity for machines." However, he has little of Lennox's interpersonal skill, but this can be attributed at least partly to his youth. He's slightly younger than Sunny Yú who is about 19, placing him somewhere in his mid-teens, possibly 15-17.

Jack has managed to survive on Shear through the usage of technology he made from Shear's scrapyards. As a coping mechanism to deal with the traumatizing experiences of living on Shear and fighting the Monsters, he has created a superhero-like persona for himself which he calls "The Jackal".

Cocky and immature, Jack is often considered annoying by the other Hunters on the team, with his Jackal persona, cheeky attitude, and big mouth. While he has proven his worth to the team with his competence in battle, his personality still earns Jack frequent death threats from the other hunters.

Jack is also girl-crazy, often trying (and failing) to impress Sunny, Caira, and Val with his superhero act. When talking with them normally, he is extremely awkward.

Jack is extremely talkative, whether on the dropship, tracking the monster, in combat, and even when close to death. He is very energetic and shows enthusiasm when hunting the wildlife, especially Albinos.

Medic Hunters

Sniper, Spy, Medic. Three jobs that normally don’t show up on the same résumé. Then again, Val doesn’t apply for just any type of position. Her Armor-Piercing Sniper Rifle and Hunter-healing Medgun are the perfect qualifications for someone stalking prey the size of a small asteroid.

Val is one of the only current Hub citizens on the team. She was born on Venus. Her outfit consists of a jetpack with the number 57 on it, along with a symbol of a medic cross with a sword and several spikes on her CIG9 Beret.

Val was sent to the Far Arm on orders from CIG9 to collect intelligence on NORDITA's Shear colony, the massive operation led by William Cabot, and the monsters. Val was supposed to be embedded as an agent, but purposely blew her cover in order to gain the trust of Cabot and the crew. As an ex-Sol Guard member and a current lieutenant commander in CIG9, Val 's qualifications are exceptionally strong for the task of hunting monsters.

The Celestial Corporation developed the Thanatologists - also known as “Lazarus Men” - as the answer to the Basilisk Soldiers during the First Mutagen War. Their only missive: to raise the dead. Only about 1000 Lazarus Men were ever created, and the Lazarus Device was deemed illegal.

Lazarus is a veteran of the first Mutagen War, and possibly the last of his kind. He is a Hub citizen, born on Io, but cannot return, living his life as a renegade. He has an inquisitive mind and a strong obsession with his craft.

Lazarus can be considered to have a poor relationship with his fellow hunters due to his curious nature; while it is true that he likes them and wouldn't say no to let them get off of Shear alive, he is equally interested in "Zombifying" them for his experiments, which naturally makes them slightly uncomfortable.

Caira’s love of science landed her the opportunity to join a Celestial Advanced Survey Team. Once she left Earth, however, her parents disowned her for not joining the family firm. This doesn’t seem to have fazed her in the slightest - after all, who cares about being ultra rich when there’s new places to go to meet new animals attempting to eat your face off? She attained two Master's degrees, though that wasn't enough to actually get her position at Catalog, implying that she had to fight for it.

The only hunter from Earth, Caira Diaz is also the only person on Shear with any hope of figuring out what the Monsters are, where they come from, and what they want. Given enough time, everyone believes she’ll find the answers. But there are only five days until the last evac ship leaves, and she’ll spend most of that time hunting Monsters.

One can only imagine the confusion at the weapons lab when Caira put in her order for a Grenade Launcher that shoots both Napalm and Healing rounds. As a qualified combat medic, she thoroughly enjoys both saving lives and setting stuff on fire. Her Adrenaline Field is also the perfect pick-me up for an all-night hunt.

Caira is usually excitable, earnest, and a fast talker. Coming from Earth, some characters regard her as stuck-up, but in reality, she is just smart and knows her science. Around some characters, though, her personality can change - for example, she is very sullen and cold when speaking to Kala. When the time calls for it, Caira can become serious especially when speaking to Cabot or Parnell about the Monster's origins. In general, however, Caira is a likeable, friendly person who, like many of the other Hunters, finds joy in killing Monsters and some hostile wildlife.

Of all the crew, he knows most about Bode’s World - the seat of the Rebellion. Slim enlisted in the Third Mutagen War as a Basilisk Soldier. His genes are modified with arthropods (insects) - particularly with dragonflies. They told him that once the war ended, he'd be able to revert back to his human self. In retrospect, this was naïve on Slim's part, and he is now an endangered subspecies - hunted to near extinction by Hub forces as the sole survivor of his class. The rest of his friends were either killed or captured, then executed at the end of the war. Slim and Crow teamed up to take down a Goliath before meeting up with Sunny and Torvald.

Slim, a veteran of the third Mutagen Wars from the rebel side, as opposed to Hyde and Lazarus who fought in Sol Guard. According to commentary from Bucket, Val, Hyde and Lazarus, he is one of numerous rebels who spliced their genes to take on insect-like traits. Whether Slim's own extensive modification was the standard or if he was a special case is unknown. According to him, he has an extra set of lungs for CO2 recycling, and his exoskeleton allows him to survive in the void of space.

Slim may look like an experiment gone wrong, but his insect humanoid DNA is genetic engineering at its finest. Armed with a Leech Gun, Healing Drones, and a Spore Cloud Launcher, Slim is a combat medic designed for the thickest of fights. When you need someone to deal damage and keep your heart pumping, call on Slim.

According to Caira, he probably has such a severe case of PTSD from the war that he can barely remember his real name or life from before, due to it being too upsetting for him. She deduced this from Hank, after asking the crew in the dropship if they knew Slim's real name. Hank comments that he asked Slim for his name, and that Slim claimed he couldn't remember. Hank asserts that he believed him. The dropship conversations detailing this are 'Not a Scientist' and 'It's Alex,' respectively.

Slim tries to forget his unpleasant past, and has an extremely hard time doing so. He believes he has no future, and so tries to live in the present. On occasion, he will call himself by his real name: Alex - but he never says it out loud infront of his teammates. He will only say it when he is the Sole Survivor (when all Hunters have perished except for him during a match). He attempts to stay positive by keeping away from conversations about his past, and often sounds depressed when reminded of the war.

There are however, some outlier cases, such as when Sunny enthused about Slim's experiences in the war. He recounts a moment from when he was boarding a Hub ship alongside his 'brothers' in space and describes the experience as beautiful. Slim seemingly has no memory of his time before the war, and Caira states that she believes this is PTSD. The conversation is called 'Everything Gets Forgotten.'

For most cases though, Slim will avoid it and prefers to focus on the present rather than the past or the future. This seems to be why he often gets along with characters like Torvald, Crow and Maggie the most, as they are less ambitious for the future and past, and are very grounded in the present. Slim asserts that this way of thinking is 'exactly what he needs,' though this attitude does seem to crack sometimes from more positive characters such as Sunny and Jack, whom have both given Slim better perspectives on his past and on his altered body (see: 'I Guess It Is Sorta Cool,' 'Butt Cheese,' and 'Everything Gets Forgotten.') These characters usually help reveal a more dry, comedic and sometimes even positive side of Slim. He's also been revealed to enjoy company with Markov who both enjoy reading comic books together that Parnell got them 'hooked on.'

E.M.E.T. is an Emergency Medical Evacuation Technician retrofitted by Jack for combat against monsters. In order to make use of him in combat, he supplemented a war droid processor, known as a Demon Core, into E.M.E.T.'s head. The Demon core is clearly aware of the Reason core's presence as on occasion he even replies to monologue from the Reason core. However, the Reason core seems oblivious to the Demon core as E.M.E.T explains that sometimes his Reason core goes dark and when it comes back on people give him strange looks. When the Demon core takes over, he utters extreme expletives, shocking his teammates.

There are actually two separate personas within one body. E.M.E.T. is the original medical droid personality. He is kind and helpful, with childlike glee for even simple things. The Demon Core is a sadistic psychopathic monster who routinely threatens bodily harm even to his teammates and makes many creative death threats to the monster. The two cores are never active at the same time, and Emet is only dimly aware of its presence.

E.M.E.T. is a Vok class drone, built with a mind only powerful enough to perform his specific task. Jack describes the addition of his Demon Core as putting him somewhere between a Vok and a Super-Vok (a learning, but still non-sentient, machine, used to manage other Voks).

E.M.E.T. is very sensitive and likes his teammates. He instantly tries to befriend as many as he can, although sometimes his lack of understanding ends with him offending his team, even with the Reason core. This is seen most commonly when E.M.E.T. interacts with Torvald and Bucket in the dropship conversations 'The Heart of a Man' and 'Insane,' respectively. You can listen to dropship conversations here. When Hunters die he often apologises and criticises himself for their death. Additionally, if E.M.E.T. is the last hunter alive, he can sometimes mention how he wasn't programmed for that and sometimes even says, "I am alone, it is not a pleasant feeling," speaking to how much his companionship with the other Hunters means to him, even if he is not liked by all.

E.M.E.T. also seems to be extremely motivated to help people and states that he is very glad he is able to do so. Additionally, he becomes sad over the fact that he cannot save everyone, and tells Jack that the fact they've not been able to save everyone 'hurts.' The conversation this is from is called 'Unique,' and can be found on the Evolve Dropship Conversation's site linked above and here.

Support Hunters

Hank was born on Mercury. His grandparents were original founders. He was never going to be the kind of guy who stayed in one place for very long though. He is also in possession of both a Mining and Demolitions license, which are what allow him to own the Orbital Barrage.

Beard, Brains, Brawn. Hank believes in the simple things, like the value of a hard day's work or the joy of indiscriminately firing a Laser Cutter at incoming predators. Which is why he cherishes the quiet moment after calling down an Orbital Barrage on whatever creature is currently pissing him off. The ensuing bombardment of fiery death really puts things into perspective.

Easy going and mostly friendly, Hank has found kindred spirits in many of the older crew members of the Laurie-Anne but often faces difficulties when interacting with the younger members of the team.

Your artillery Support. Rank-Rajat Mind Serial Number 1Z27FHV047FBPQ40-a “Bucket”. His mind-state was programmed on Earth, but he was activated on Ganymede and thus has no memory of Earth. He worked with Cabot as a Hub Marshall and was assigned to him on March 18, 2356. As a Hunter, he is always ready to do what is necessary to take down the monster.

Normally charged with flying the ship, Bucket uses a modified repair drone chassis when the time comes to support his human comrades on the ground. Several years after Bucket was assigned to Cabot they headed to the Far Arm to hand over Arthur Rank to Terry Conneght.

Originally naïve of human nature and adherent to his duties, Bucket’s partnership with Cabot has left him with the self-directive of finding what it means to be human - even if it does come with the contemplation of bodily functions and eating and other weird things the monkeys do. Bucket is extremely sadistic. Bucket's stated that as a Marshal he would often use "slightly less than lethal force" before reading people their rights. Bucket has shown that he hates his name, he was never able to choose it and he hates it whenever someone mocks his name. Bucket goes so far as to threaten Jack for making fun of his name.

In his younger years, Cabot was a loud and brash Hub Marshal, partnered with Bucket. After failing to bring Arthur Rank to trial - due to bureaucratic bullshit and a touch of red tape - Bucket and Cabot followed Rank to the Far Arm to bring him to justice. The duo remained in the Far Arm, eventually leading Cabot to found Leading Edge - a group of planet tamers - the best ever. At some point after the death of his wife (and presumably, his daughter), Cabot retired and faded into legend. Years later, with a lot of money - or even the possibility of saving lives - NORDITA coaxed him out of retirement to assemble The Crew to take back Shear from the Monster threat.

Cabot is not only the owner of the dropship, he's the captain of the team. The heroes all work for him. He's the best planet tamer the Arm has ever seen. NORDITA brought him out of retirement specially for Shear. A lot of these guys only signed up because it was William Cabot asking. Griffin in particular.

Only one man could lead the desperate attempt to rescue the last of the remaining colonists from Shear: William Cabot. Long retired from planet taming, Cabot agreed to help and, with his robot partner Bucket, assembled the greatest team of Hunters in history.

Cabot's outfit is an old Sol Guard Air Agency bomber jacket. It has a Hub Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force patch on the right shoulder. Reads, "Pride, Integrity, Guts." And also a Guild Licensed Planet Tamer Far Arm Chapter 914 patch on chest. That reads, "Clearing the way for galactic civilization."

Cabot is always focused on the mission at hand and makes certain that his Hunter allies are capable of completing the mission no matter the cost. He prefers to Socialize with Parnell, Maggie, Lazarus, and Val.

An ace pilot and engineer, this versatile Hunter helps teammates escape danger and deal heavy damage to the Monster. The newest support to Cabot’s Hunter Team enters into battle with a devastating Mininuke Grenade Launcher. While she packs a big punch, her Jetpack Booster and Shield Drones give her team the edge they need…an easy escape when the hunt gets rough or a shield to prevent harmful blows.

Sunny left home at the age of 14 and joined a Celestial deep space ore shifter. At some point, she looked up Parnell’s crew and aced a piloting simulation, landing her the position as pilot of The Sword at 16 over Abe's objections.

Sunny goes a long ways back with Abe and Parnell before coming to Shear. She served as the pilot on Parnell's ship, The Sword, until a catastrophic accident where the station they were protecting nuked a Sol Guard ship. Parnell commanded her and other crewmembers to board the ship and rescue survivors, only for it to violently explode, leaving Parnell and Abe the last of the crew of the Sword. Or so they thought.

Reading the signs of danger and beating a hasty retreat, Sunny slipped into a stasis pod and set sail for anywhere. She woke up 6 months later near Shear, thanks to some salvagers nice enough to recover her pod. Now the ace pilot, engineer and eternal optimist is coming to help her old squad mates.

Always sunny side up. Sunny's most noticeable traits are her enthusiasm and inquisitive nature. This serves a useful narrative role, as she frequently asks characters (such as Crow, Slim, and Torvald) questions about their backstories, revealing in-setting details that would have been hard to explain otherwise.

Sunny is cheery and often starts conversations with her fellow team. Parnell and Abe have met Sunny before she joined the team. While most Hunters will happily join conversation with her, she sometimes oversteps her welcome and the Hunters can end up frustrated by the end; this is most noticeable with Torvald. In general, other hunters like her optimistic personality and are willing to indulge her and answer questions about their past.

Kala gained fame as a microbiologist for successfully transplanting metabolic processes from alien organisms into terrestrial organisms, tricking cells on a microbial level into behaving in ways that were previously thought impossible. In particular, she generated a method of teaching the E. coli bacterium to pull energy from the quantum foam generating substantial "free" energy in a terrestrial organism.

With the success of her career, Kala was hired by Celestial corporation to ply her trade on Mercury Isolate - although this was a ruse, and her actual work was to take place aboard Celestials top secret facility Akhenaten station, studying Monster biology. Kala can be described as the foremost expert on the monster race, although that knowledge may still amount to relatively little.

After experimenting with Kraken DNA she attempted to integrate it into her own being, this lead to her deformed arm and eye and the fear that the monster DNA will take over.

Monsters

While there is much speculation about the Monster's origins, little is known for sure. They're not complete newcomers to the galaxy - Ebonstar had a monster in captivity for months before the outbreak, and the colony of Factor was annihilated by the beasts. They adapt quickly to their environment and are capable of intelligent behavior, and there is suspicion both that they are biomechanical in nature and also created by some advanced alien race or by science. The monsters biological makeup is written in HNA (often described as artifical DNA, but only because it was previously thought incapable of existing naturally) and is heavily related to the Patterson Equations, potentially explaining many of their powers. Analysis from Caira indicates that the "eggs" (Nest mode) do not appear to be laid by any of the existing monsters, and form the creatures inside mere moments before hatching. One thing is certain - they are violent, deadly, and hell-bent on the destruction of the human colony on Shear.

Goliath

Goliath woke up on the wrong side of angry this morning. Little is known about this Monster because scientists studying the beast wind up getting torn in half. Proving just how unfair natural selection can be, Goliath can not only punch through the hull of a starship, it can also breathe fire.

The Goliath is a large saurian-like monster with spiny skin that resembles igneous rock. Also, its eyes and mouth glow an orangish red like the fire they breathe. The Goliath is a brute-force bruiser who specializes in engaging the hunters directly with its immense strength. From a distance, the Goliath can throw boulders and uses its fiery breath to incinerate any enemy who attempts to evade it.

Kraken

If the dictionary ever decided it needed a new word to describe the mix between waking nightmare and ungodly horror, it would undoubtedly include an image of Kraken. This tentacled monstrosity unleashes electric death on Hunters who get too close and even those who think they are safely out of range.

A Lovecraftian beast with four glowing eyes, the Kraken can generate bio-electricity from the two tentacle-like appendages on its back that serve as functional wings. Said appendages can be swung in a wide arc to cause blunt injury to anything hit. While not the most durable of Shear's beasts, this eldritch being more than makes up for it with long range electrical blasts to snipe unfortunate prey from afar. Its specialty is ranged combat and damage evasion, utilizing its skills to buffet the hunters around and zap them from a distance before dropping down to finish the kill.

Wraith

Wraith is the stealthy assassin. it’s an alien Monster who warps around the battlefield, ripping into her enemies with it's blade-claws. It can hit – then run – before you even see it coming.

The Wraith is an almost ghost-like bladed stealth hunter. It moves quickly across the battlefield, creating decoys and abducting hunters from afar to single them out and take them down quickly. The sneakiest of the monsters, Wraith has a weak frame but uses it's bizarre (sometimes borderline supernatural) abilities to confuse, deceive, and pick off its would be hunters in fast, aggressive engagements.

The Behemoth Behemoth is a ginormous rolling juggernaut, peering down on enemies through molten eyes. A brawler at heart, he makes up for his slow speed with pure brute strength. If he does not crush you to death, his lava bombs will disintegrate you.

The largest and most durable of the monsters, the Behemoth is the rolling tank of the monster race. It cannot jump, and moves by rolling on the ground. The Behemoth's fighting style is focused around combating abilities and controlling the battlefield through powerful ranged AoE attacks and generated rock walls; when hunters grow too evasive, it can pull them in with its tongue grab ability before walling its target in to secure a kill.

Gorgon Gorgon is a devious, hideous killer who enjoys watching her prey struggle. Her ranged attacks can deal damage over time and are menacing when focused on a single Hunter. Traversing across the map quickly with her Web Sling, Gorgon can also stick to walls and hide or rain down attacks from above

A slender arachnid monster that bears a humanoid head and torso, and an abdomen that resembles some sort of stinger. It supports itself on two long hind legs and has two long arms with spindly fingers as well as tertiary arms in between. Gorgon travels by web slinging across the area.
