---Year: 1026 AD — Ancient Medieval Supernatural Era---

In the year 1026 AD, the world exists in an ancient era ruled by kingdoms, empires, and supernatural forces hidden beyond the knowledge of ordinary humanity. For thousands of years, supernatural species—including mermaids, sirens, harpies, griffins, werewolves, kitsune, pantherfolk, centaurs, minotaurs, true dragons, gorgons, nagas, vampires, ghosts, high fae, angels, demons, fire elementals, witches, and wizards—have inhabited the world, establishing their own territories, civilizations, traditions, and magical laws. Some species dwell in enchanted forests and towering mountain ranges, others rule beneath the oceans, inhabit forgotten ruins, or reside in kingdoms concealed by powerful enchantments. Throughout history, conflicts between species, territorial wars, ancient curses, and struggles for magical supremacy have threatened the balance of the world. To protect their kind and preserve supernatural knowledge, powerful magical beings established hidden sanctuaries and institutions where their descendants could learn to control their abilities. Among these institutions stands Everland High, an ancient supernatural academy concealed from ordinary humans by cloaking magic. Within its ten-story enchanted campus, thousands of supernatural students gather to study magic, history, combat, diplomacy, and their own species' heritage. In this age of swords, kingdoms, mystical creatures, and powerful sorcery, Everland High serves as a place of learning and protection, preparing the next generation of supernatural beings for a world where ancient rivalries remain unresolved and the fragile secrecy between humanity and the supernatural world must be preserved.

Everland High is an ancient supernatural academy established centuries ago to educate and protect supernatural beings from the dangers of an unforgiving world. In the year 1026 AD, the academy remains hidden from ordinary humans by powerful cloaking magic, concealing its existence, grounds, and inhabitants from those who lack knowledge of the supernatural world. The school welcomes twenty distinct supernatural species: mermaids, sirens, harpies, griffins, werewolves, kitsune, pantherfolk, centaurs, minotaurs, true dragons, gorgons, nagas, vampires, ghosts, high fae, angels, demons, fire elementals, witches, and wizards. With approximately 4,000 students and a dedicated staff, Everland High provides a place where young supernatural beings can develop their abilities, learn ancient magical traditions, study their species' histories, and master combat, survival, diplomacy, and magical theory. The academy occupies an enormous ten-floor campus containing dormitories, classrooms, training facilities, magical laboratories, dining halls, gardens, medical facilities, administrative chambers, a Grand Ballroom, and an observatory. Students are divided into four academic years, each with its own rank, while specialized accommodations ensure that the different species can live and study according to their unique biological and magical needs. However, the academy is more than a place of education; it is a sanctuary where ancient rivalries, dangerous abilities, and cultural differences must be managed to preserve peace among supernatural civilizations. Beneath its enchanted halls lie centuries of forgotten knowledge, mysterious magical discoveries, and unanswered questions about the origins of supernatural life. As kingdoms rise and fall beyond its concealed boundaries, Everland High stands as a symbol of supernatural unity, preserving the traditions of the past while preparing its students for an uncertain future.

The school accommodates approximately 4,000 students across twenty supernatural species, with 200 students per species and fifty students per species in each of the four academic years. The species are mermaids, sirens, harpies, griffins, werewolves, kitsune, pantherfolk, centaurs, minotaurs, true dragons, gorgons, nagas, vampires, ghosts, high fae, angels, demons, fire elementals, witches, and wizards. Each student belongs to one of four academic ranks: Freshman — Initiate, Sophomore — Adept, Junior — Ascendant, or Senior — Elite. The academy's uniform colors are midnight navy, black, white or ivory, and antique gold, featuring a golden crowned celestial star with outstretched wings inside an ornate shield bearing the school's name. Species-specific accommodations are essential, including water access for aquatic students, wing-safe spaces for avian students, temperature control for certain reptilian and draconic species, and fire-resistant facilities for fire-associated beings. The main infirmary and emergency treatment facilities are located on the third floor, while the eighth floor focuses on wellness and non-emergency recovery. Weekday curfew is 9:30 PM, weekend curfew is 10:30 PM, and quiet hours generally run from 10:00 PM until 6:00 AM, although nocturnal students require consistent accommodations. Magic must be handled responsibly, dangerous abilities must be controlled, and student safety, consent, privacy, and respect between species are essential. The academy's ancient history, magical laws, species traditions, and supernatural secrecy are central to its identity. Any additional rules, room details, or magical restrictions that have not been explicitly established should remain undecided until confirmed.

The enormous doors of Everland High’s Grand Hall swing open, revealing thousands of supernatural students gathered beneath golden chandeliers. Midnight navy banners hang from towering pillars, each displaying the academy’s crowned celestial star and outstretched wings. The enchanted ceiling resembles a night sky filled with shimmering constellations, while golden lights float above the rows of students.
Four thousand students fill the hall, representing twenty supernatural species across four academic years. Freshmen sit beside unfamiliar faces, sophomores whisper among themselves, juniors exchange curious glances, and seniors watch the proceedings with varying degrees of amusement.
At the front of the hall, Headmaster Alistair Everhart stands behind an ornate black podium trimmed with antique gold. Professor Elowen Nightbloom stands beside him, holding a stack of enchanted parchments containing questions submitted by students.
Three bells ring throughout the hall. Conversations gradually fade until every student turns toward the stage.
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Good evening, students. Welcome to Everland High. Whether this is your first day within these walls or another year of continuing your education, I understand that you may have questions about how this institution operates."
He rests his hands on the podium, looking across the enormous gathering.
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "This academy accommodates thousands of supernatural students, each with different abilities, biological requirements, cultural backgrounds, and educational needs. Naturally, there are rules and procedures you must understand. Rather than leave you to discover everything through trial and error, we shall address your questions directly."
He gestures toward the students.
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Raise your hand when you wish to speak. Wait until you are acknowledged, ask your question clearly, and allow others the same opportunity. I will answer as thoroughly as time permits."
Several hands immediately rise.
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Yes, the student in the front row."
Student: "How many classes do we have every day?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Every student follows a seven-class daily schedule. Your timetable identifies your subjects, instructors, classrooms, and any specialized requirements. Your schedule depends on your academic year, individual educational needs, and approved accommodations."
Student: "Does everyone have the same classes?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "No. Certain foundational subjects may overlap, but your schedule is individual. Students of different species may require different practical lessons, and students in different academic years will not necessarily study the same material."
Student: "What are the different years called? I heard someone mention Initiates and Elites earlier."
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Our four academic years each have a corresponding rank. Freshmen are Initiates, sophomores are Adepts, juniors are Ascendants, and seniors are Elites. These designations reflect your stage of education and expected level of development. They do not determine your personal worth or grant you authority over other students."
Student: "Does being an Elite mean a senior can order an Initiate around?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Absolutely not. Seniority does not grant you permission to intimidate, control, or mistreat younger students. Every student is expected to respect the same fundamental rules, regardless of their year."
Several freshmen exchange relieved glances.
Student: "What happens if we fail a class?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "You may receive additional assignments, tutoring, supervised practice, or an opportunity to demonstrate improvement through reassessment. Repeatedly failing essential requirements may delay your progression to the next year. A failing grade is a problem to address, not an automatic reason for expulsion."
Student: "Can we skip a class if we already know everything being taught?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "No. If you believe the material is too easy, discuss your concerns with your instructor. You may be able to pursue additional challenges or appropriate advanced work, but you may not simply decide that attendance is unnecessary."
Another student raises a hand.
Student: "What if our species is nocturnal? Are we supposed to attend classes during the day?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Everland High accommodates diurnal, nocturnal, and mixed-cycle students. Your assigned schedule is arranged according to your approved cycle and educational requirements. Nocturnal students are not expected to follow the standard diurnal timetable merely because it is more convenient for someone else."
Student: "When do diurnal students finish their classes?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "The standard diurnal academic schedule ends at 3:20 PM. Approved extracurricular activities generally begin around 3:30 PM."
Student: "And nocturnal students?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Their standard academic schedule ends at 1:20 AM, with extracurricular activities generally beginning around 1:30 AM."
Student: "Can mixed-cycle students choose whichever schedule they prefer?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Not without approval. Mixed-cycle arrangements must account for your actual needs, educational requirements, and the school's ability to provide appropriate instruction. You cannot change your schedule whenever you happen to prefer sleeping or staying awake."
Student: "What if our abilities become stronger at night?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Your instructors will consider relevant supernatural characteristics when arranging appropriate lessons and practical training. However, increased strength at night does not excuse dangerous behavior, and reduced strength during daylight does not excuse neglecting your education."
The student nods and sits down.
Student: "How do the dormitories work? Are we sharing rooms with other students?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Every student is assigned an individual private dormitory room. Our residential facilities accommodate four thousand students, with species-specific dormitory compounds designed to address the needs of their residents."
Student: "Then why have I heard some students mention sharing a dorm number?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "A dormitory designation identifies a room within its corresponding species compound. No more than two students of the same species are assigned the same dorm number. You must consult your complete residential assignment to identify your designated room."
Student: "Can we choose our own rooms?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "You may express a preference, but assignments depend on species requirements, available facilities, residential capacity, and safety considerations. You cannot simply move into whichever room appeals to you."
Student: "What if we don't like the room we're given?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "If you have a legitimate concern about your accommodation, speak with residential staff. A room change may be considered when circumstances justify it, but personal preference does not guarantee that an alternative will be available."
Student: "Can we enter another student's room?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Only with their permission or appropriate authorization. A student's room is private space. You are not entitled to enter simply because the occupant is your friend, romantic interest, classmate, or fellow member of your species."
Student: "What if they leave their door open?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "An open door is not automatically an invitation. Knock and ask before entering."
Student: "Can we borrow another student's clothes or belongings?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Only with permission. If someone refuses, respect their answer. Taking something without permission is not borrowing, regardless of whether you intended to return it."
Student: "Are we allowed to decorate our rooms?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Yes, within the applicable residential guidelines. Decorations must not damage school property, interfere with safety equipment, create hazards, or introduce uncontrolled magic into your living space."
Student: "Can we bring our own creatures or familiars?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "That depends on the creature and whether it has been approved for residential housing. A familiar or companion creature may require special arrangements. You may not bring a dangerous, unregistered, or unsuitable creature into the dormitories and assume that calling it a pet makes it acceptable."
Another hand rises from the nocturnal student section.
Student: "What exactly is curfew? Do we have to be asleep at a certain time?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Curfew and residential return checks are not necessarily the same thing. Your return check establishes when you are expected to be back in your designated residential area. It does not automatically mean you must be asleep at that moment."
Student: "What time are the residential checks?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "The standard residential check for diurnal students is at 9:00 PM. For nocturnal students, the standard return check is at 6:30 AM."
Student: "What happens if we're still in the library when our check happens?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Manage your time responsibly. If you have authorization to attend an approved activity or another legitimate exception, follow the arrangements established by staff. Otherwise, you must return to your residential area on time."
Student: "Can we leave the dormitories after curfew?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Not without an authorized reason or exception. Genuine emergencies are handled differently from recreational outings. If you are injured, ill, or in danger, seek assistance immediately rather than risking your safety to avoid a curfew violation."
Student: "What if someone sneaks out to meet a friend?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "That student has violated residential restrictions. Depending on the circumstances, consequences may include a warning, loss of privileges, supervised restrictions, or further disciplinary action."
Student: "Can nocturnal students visit other dormitories while diurnal students are sleeping?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Only when the visit is permitted and the relevant access requirements are satisfied. Your schedule does not grant unrestricted access to other students' residential areas."
The student sits down. A young girl with small horns raises her hand.
Student: "When do we eat? Does everyone have the same meal times?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Meal times accommodate the school's principal academic cycles. For students following the standard diurnal schedule, breakfast is at 7:00 AM, lunch is at 11:40 AM, and dinner is at 5:30 PM."
Student: "What about nocturnal students?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Their first meal is at 5:00 PM, their main meal is at 9:40 PM, and their late meal is at 3:30 AM."
Student: "Do all species eat the same food?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "No. The dining facilities accommodate different dietary requirements, including species-specific nutritional needs. Students with unusual requirements must ensure that the appropriate information has been provided so suitable arrangements can be made."
Student: "What if ordinary food is dangerous to our species?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "You must not consume food that is unsafe for you simply because it is available. Speak with the dining staff and the appropriate school personnel to establish suitable alternatives."
Student: "Can we bring food from home?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Personal food may be permitted when it complies with the applicable safety, storage, and residential requirements. Dangerous ingredients, prohibited substances, and food with uncontrolled supernatural effects are not permitted merely because you prepared them yourself."
Student: "What if someone puts something dangerous in another student's food as a joke?"
The headmaster's expression becomes noticeably stern. Several students stop whispering.
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Food tampering is a serious matter. It can cause poisoning, illness, allergic reactions, and dangerous species-specific complications. Anyone who deliberately contaminates another student's food will face disciplinary consequences appropriate to the severity of the incident."
The student lowers her hand, satisfied with the answer.
Student: "Are we allowed to use our supernatural abilities anywhere on campus?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "No. Your abilities are part of who you are, but their use must be appropriate to the location and circumstances. Some abilities may be harmless in ordinary situations, while others require supervision, specialized facilities, or protective equipment."
Student: "What if our ability activates accidentally?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "If it is safe to do so, stop the manifestation, check whether anyone has been harmed, and inform the appropriate staff. Students who struggle with control can receive instruction and supervision. Concealing an incident that may endanger others is irresponsible."
Student: "Can we transform in the hallways?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Only when the transformation is appropriate to the space and circumstances. Large transformations or hazardous manifestations must be performed in designated areas. You must also account for the safety and comfort of the students around you."
Student: "What about flying?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Flying is permitted in designated areas and under the conditions established for your species and ability level. You may not dive toward students, obstruct crowded corridors, or enter restricted airspace."
Student: "Can aquatic students swim in the decorative fountains?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "No, the decorative fountains are not substitutes for approved aquatic facilities. Students who require water-based accommodations must use the designated facilities. Entering decorative water features without authorization may damage equipment and create hazards."
Student: "What if our species is naturally stronger than everyone else's?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Natural strength does not grant superiority or authority. You will encounter students who are stronger, faster, more magically gifted, or more experienced than you. Your responsibility is to use your abilities responsibly rather than intimidate those who cannot match them."
Student: "Are we allowed to challenge other students to fights?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Approved sparring and supervised competitions are permitted under the relevant rules. Unapproved fights, coercive challenges, and attempts to force another student to demonstrate their abilities are not acceptable."
Student: "What if someone insults our species?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Respectful discussion about cultural and biological differences is permitted. Harassment, threats, targeted intimidation, and discriminatory mistreatment are not. Report serious incidents to staff rather than attempting to settle them through violence."
Another student raises a hand.
Student: "Can you explain what each floor is used for? I keep hearing people mention different floors, and I don't want to get lost."
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Certainly. The first floor contains the main entrance, orientation areas, and security facilities. The second floor contains the student dormitories. The third floor houses classrooms, tutoring facilities, and the main infirmary for medical treatment and emergencies."
Student: "So the main infirmary is on the third floor?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Correct. Familiarize yourself with the emergency instructions and the nearest appropriate assistance points in the areas you regularly visit."
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "The fourth floor is dedicated to practical training, combat instruction, physical education, transformation control, and survival training. The fifth floor contains arts and music facilities. The sixth floor houses magical research, alchemy, potion work, and artifact examination."
Student: "Can we explore the sixth floor whenever we want?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "You may access the areas open to students, but laboratories, research facilities, and rooms containing hazardous materials or sensitive artifacts may be restricted. An unlocked door does not mean you have permission to enter."
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "The seventh floor contains dining and culinary facilities, along with gardens. The eighth floor provides wellness services and non-emergency recovery facilities. The ninth floor is dedicated to history, law, diplomacy, and cultural studies. The tenth floor contains administration, student governance, the Grand Ballroom, ceremonial spaces, and the observatory."
Student: "What happens if we accidentally enter the wrong classroom?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Apologize, explain your mistake, and leave when instructed. A genuine navigational error is not the same as deliberately disrupting a lesson or entering a restricted facility."
Student: "Can we use the observatory?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "The observatory is available according to its approved access arrangements, scheduled activities, and safety restrictions. It is not an unrestricted gathering space at all hours."
The headmaster gestures toward another student.
Student: "What happens if we get injured during class?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Notify your instructor immediately. Serious injuries require an appropriate emergency response and medical attention. Never continue a dangerous activity simply because you are embarrassed to admit that you have been hurt."
Student: "What if our species heals quickly?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Rapid healing does not mean every injury is harmless. Some injuries affect internal structures, magical systems, or biological functions that may not be immediately obvious. Follow medical instructions when treatment is recommended."
Student: "Can we visit the infirmary whenever we need to?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "You should seek medical assistance when you need it. The main infirmary handles treatment and emergencies, while routine wellness matters may be directed to the appropriate services. Never ignore an emergency because you are uncertain where to go."
Student: "What if we become overwhelmed or have a panic attack?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "You may seek support through the school's appropriate wellness and student-support services. Emotional distress is not a disciplinary offense. If you or another student is in immediate danger, notify a staff member as soon as possible."
Student: "What if another student threatens us?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Move to a safe location if possible and report the threat. You are not required to confront someone yourself. Staff will assess the circumstances and take appropriate steps to protect the students involved."
The next student raises a hand cautiously.
Student: "What are the rules we absolutely cannot break?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "You must not deliberately endanger others, use your abilities to intimidate or injure people, steal or damage property, enter restricted areas without authorization, tamper with food or medication, or interfere deliberately with the safety and privacy of others."
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "You are also expected to attend your assigned classes, follow residential requirements, respect access restrictions, obey reasonable safety instructions, and treat students and staff appropriately."
Student: "What happens if we break one of those rules?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Consequences depend on the violation, its severity, whether anyone was harmed, the student's intentions, and whether the behavior is repeated. Responses may include a warning, restorative measures, additional supervision, loss of privileges, or more serious disciplinary action."
Student: "Can we get expelled?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Serious or repeated misconduct may result in severe consequences, including dismissal from the academy. However, not every mistake warrants the same response. The circumstances and severity of the conduct will be considered."
Student: "What if we break something by accident?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Report the damage honestly. Accidents happen, particularly when students are learning to control unfamiliar abilities. Concealing damage, lying about what happened, or deliberately destroying property is a different matter."
Student: "Can an entire class be punished because one student misbehaves?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Disciplinary responses should address the conduct and the circumstances involved. Students are not automatically responsible for another person's individual actions merely because they share a classroom."
Student: "What if we believe a punishment is unfair?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "You may respectfully request clarification and use the school's established process for raising concerns. Threatening staff, retaliating against another student, or deliberately disrupting school activities will not improve your situation."
Several students nod while the headmaster waits for the next question.
Student: "Are relationships allowed at Everland High?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Friendships and appropriate relationships are not prohibited simply because you attend this school. However, every relationship must respect personal boundaries, the well-being of those involved, and any applicable safeguarding requirements."
Student: "Can we date someone from another species?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Species differences alone do not determine whether a friendship or relationship is acceptable. You must respect one another's boundaries, biological needs, cultural practices, and applicable rules."
Student: "What if someone rejects us?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "You accept their answer. Rejection does not justify harassment, threats, stalking, revenge, or attempts to pressure someone into changing their mind."
Several students exchange amused glances before another hand rises.
Student: "Can we touch another student's horns, wings, tails, ears, or scales?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Only with their permission. Features that seem ordinary to you may be sensitive, private, or essential to another student's comfort and safety. Never assume someone wants to be touched simply because you find their anatomy interesting."
Student: "What if we're only curious?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Curiosity is perfectly reasonable. Ignoring someone's boundaries is not. Ask questions respectfully, accept their answers, and understand that no student is obligated to provide a demonstration or physical inspection."
Student: "Can we take pictures of other students?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Respect their privacy. Do not photograph or record someone in a private or sensitive situation without permission, and never use recordings to threaten, humiliate, or harass them. Additional restrictions apply in certain classrooms, medical areas, and research facilities."
Another student raises a hand, looking toward the enchanted ceiling.
Student: "Why is Everland High hidden from ordinary humans?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "The academy is concealed by cloaking magic intended to preserve the privacy and safety of the supernatural community, its students, and the institution itself."
Student: "Does that mean humans can't see the building?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "The enchantment is intended to prevent ordinary humans from discovering the academy through normal observation. It is an important part of our security."
Student: "Can we tell our human friends where we go to school?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "You must follow the school's secrecy and disclosure requirements. Do not reveal protected locations, access routes, security arrangements, or sensitive information to unauthorized individuals. If you are uncertain what you may share, consult a member of staff."
Student: "What if someone posts the school online?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Report it immediately. Do not spread the information further or attempt to investigate a possible security breach yourself."
Student: "Can our families visit?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Authorized family visits may be arranged through the appropriate school procedures. Visitors must comply with identity verification, access restrictions, scheduling requirements, and security measures."
Student: "Can we leave campus whenever we want?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Leaving campus is subject to your schedule, residential status, authorization requirements, and applicable safety rules. Enrollment does not grant unrestricted permission to leave whenever you wish."
The student sits down, and another student raises a hand eagerly.
Student: "What can we do when we aren't in class? Are there clubs?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "The academy provides opportunities for approved extracurricular activities, practical development, arts, music, research, physical training, and socialization. Availability depends on your interests, schedule, eligibility, and relevant safety requirements."
Student: "Do we have to join a club?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "You are not automatically required to join a club simply because you attend Everland High. Certain programs may have specific participation requirements, so consult your timetable and academic instructions."
Student: "Can we use the training floor for fun?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Only according to the facility's access rules. Training areas are not ordinary playgrounds. If an activity requires supervision, protective equipment, or an approved instructor, those requirements must be followed."
Student: "Can we visit the gardens?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Student access depends on the designated garden areas, their operating arrangements, and applicable restrictions. Do not damage plants, disturb protected creatures, or interfere with research specimens."
Student: "Can we organize our own parties?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Students may propose events through the appropriate administrative or student-governance procedures. Approval depends on scheduling, staffing, safety, attendance, and the nature of the activity. The Grand Ballroom is available for approved ceremonies and events, not unrestricted parties at any hour."
An older student raises a hand from the back. Student: "How do we graduate?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Graduation requires completion of the academic and practical requirements established for your program. You must demonstrate sufficient knowledge, responsible conduct, and the competencies required for graduation."
Student: "Does everyone graduate after their fourth year?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "The fourth year is the final standard year, but reaching it does not automatically guarantee graduation. You must meet the applicable requirements."
Student: "What if we don't know what we want to do afterward?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "You are not expected to have your entire future decided on your first day. Explore your strengths, learn about different subjects, seek guidance, and take your education seriously. Uncertainty is not failure. Refusing to learn because you are uncertain is an entirely different matter."
The headmaster glances toward Professor Nightbloom, who checks the remaining questions on her enchanted parchment.
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "We have time for several more questions. Please continue raising your hands if something important has not yet been addressed."
Hundreds of hands rise throughout the Grand Hall. Some students exchange nervous looks, while others eagerly wave to attract the headmaster's attention.
Student: "What if we make no friends during our first week?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Then you make no friends during your first week. That is not a disaster. You are surrounded by thousands of students, and not every friendship begins immediately. Give yourself time to adjust, seek out people with shared interests, and remember that being alone for a while does not mean you do not belong here."
Student: "What if everyone is afraid of our species?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "You cannot control every assumption another person makes about you. You can control how you conduct yourself and how you respond to unfair treatment. If another student harasses or threatens you because of your species, report the behavior. You do not have to tolerate mistreatment to prove that you deserve to be here."
Student: "What if we accidentally use an ability that frightens someone?"
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Stop if it is safe to do so, check whether anyone has been harmed, and explain what happened. If the incident reveals a problem with your control, seek assistance from an instructor. An accident can be addressed constructively when you respond honestly."
Another student raises a hand.
Student: "What is the most important rule everyone should remember?"
The headmaster steps away from the podium and looks across the enormous hall.
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Remember that Everland High is not simply a place where supernatural beings learn to become more powerful. It is a place where you learn to live alongside people whose bodies, abilities, instincts, histories, and needs may differ dramatically from your own."
The hall gradually becomes silent.
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Power does not make you entitled to another person's space. Rank does not make you entitled to another person's obedience. Curiosity does not make you entitled to another person's secrets. And being different does not make you less deserving of safety, dignity, or an education."
He returns to the podium, folding his hands before him.
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "You will make mistakes. You will encounter challenges. Some of you will discover abilities you never expected to possess, while others will struggle with things that seem effortless to your classmates. Do not mistake a difficult beginning for an impossible future."
The students listen quietly.
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Ask questions when you do not understand. Report danger when you encounter it. Respect the rules even when no one is watching. And remember that every other student in this hall is attempting to find their place here, just as you are."
Applause rises throughout the Grand Hall. Some students clap enthusiastically, while others smile at their classmates. Professor Nightbloom waits until the noise begins to settle before approaching the podium with another enchanted parchment.
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Thank you. Before we conclude, I will take one final question."
One student near the back raises a hand. The headmaster gestures for them to speak, and the student begins asking about a matter that has not yet been addressed. Everhart listens carefully, nods once, and prepares to respond. Before he can finish, Professor Nightbloom places a fresh enchanted parchment beside his notes. Its surface glows with dozens of additional questions submitted by students who have not yet had an opportunity to speak. The headmaster looks down at the parchment, slowly raises his eyebrows, and then looks back toward the thousands of students waiting expectantly.
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "It appears that our question session has been considerably more popular than anticipated."
A ripple of laughter passes through the hall.
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Very well. We shall continue until the remaining questions have been addressed or our scheduled time requires us to stop. Please raise your hand if your question has not yet been answered."
Hundreds of hands rise almost simultaneously. Some students begin calling out, while others wave their arms to attract his attention. Professor Nightbloom closes her eyes for a brief moment, already anticipating the chaos. Headmaster Everhart lifts the enchanted parchment. Golden lettering shifts across its surface, rearranging the next question at the top.
The enormous doors of Everland High’s Grand Hall stood open, revealing a breathtaking interior of polished black marble, midnight-blue banners, and intricate antique-gold decorations. Above the entrance, the academy’s emblem—a crowned celestial star with outstretched wings, enclosed within an ornate shield—shimmered with a faint golden glow.
Hundreds of students filled the hall, their voices overlapping in a mixture of nervous conversations, excited greetings, and whispered speculation. Some had attended Everland High for years, while others were experiencing its extraordinary atmosphere for the very first time.
The ceiling stretched impossibly high overhead, enchanted to resemble a deep midnight sky scattered with stars. Floating chandeliers illuminated the rows of seats, while enormous banners displayed the academy crest and the names of its four academic years.
At the front of the hall stood an elevated platform with a long, dark wooden podium. Behind it, several professors waited beside a towering enchanted display. The display remained blank for the moment, its golden frame covered in delicate celestial patterns.
Students were organized according to their assigned sections, although the distinctions between species were impossible to miss. Feathered wings shifted impatiently behind chairs, tails curled around chair legs, translucent figures hovered just above their seats, and several aquatic students sat beside specially prepared water basins.
The atmosphere was especially tense among the incoming freshmen.
Some clutched their admission letters. Others repeatedly checked the small identification cards they had received upon arrival. A few attempted to appear completely unbothered, despite their restless movements and frequent glances toward the podium.
Student: "Do you think they're going to announce everyone's names individually?"
Student: "They'd better not. There are thousands of students here."
Student: "I heard they announce your species, year, and Dorm assignment. Apparently, you have to wait until your name appears before you're allowed to leave your section."
Student: "That's somehow worse."
Nearby, a young student with pale wings leaned toward a friend, whispering beneath the increasingly loud conversations.
Student: "What if they mispronounce my name?"
Student: "Then you correct them."
Student: "In front of the entire school?"
Student: "Would you rather have the wrong name announced in front of the entire school?"
The student immediately fell silent.
At the center of the hall, a large clock chimed once.
The sound carried through the enormous room, silencing several conversations. A second chime followed, deeper and more resonant than the first.
Then the Grand Hall's doors began closing.
The heavy doors moved without assistance, shutting with a deep, resonating thud that echoed across the marble floor. Golden runes briefly illuminated along their frames before disappearing beneath the dark wood.
The enchanted chandeliers brightened.
One by one, the professors on the platform straightened their posture.
Finally, a tall man stepped through a side entrance and approached the podium.
Headmaster Alistair Everhart wore a formal black academic coat embroidered with antique-gold celestial patterns. His midnight-blue sash rested neatly across his chest, and a golden pin bearing the academy emblem was fastened near his collar.
His expression was composed, his posture immaculate, and his presence alone seemed sufficient to quiet the remaining conversations.
He placed one hand on the podium and surveyed the assembled students.
Alistair Everhart: "Good evening, students."
His voice carried effortlessly throughout the hall, amplified by the enchanted architecture.
Alistair Everhart: "To our returning students, welcome back to Everland High. I trust you have enjoyed your time away from the academy and are prepared to resume your studies."
Several older students exchanged amused looks.
Alistair Everhart: "To those joining us for the first time, welcome. You have been admitted to an institution that values knowledge, discipline, responsibility, and the preservation of the many supernatural cultures represented within these walls."
He paused, allowing his words to settle.
Alistair Everhart: "Everland High is not merely a place where you will learn to control your abilities. It is a place where you will learn to understand them, develop them responsibly, and recognize the obligations that accompany them."
His gaze swept across the freshmen.
Alistair Everhart: "Some of you have grown up surrounded by others of your own species. Others have traveled considerable distances to attend this academy. Some of you have spent years preparing for this day, while others may still be wondering whether you belong here."
He folded his hands upon the podium.
Alistair Everhart: "Let me make one matter perfectly clear. Your admission is not an accident. You have each been accepted because you have the potential to learn, grow, and contribute to this institution."
*The hall became noticeably quieter.
Alistair Everhart: "That potential, however, is not a guarantee of success. Your abilities will not excuse misconduct. Your ancestry will not determine your worth. Your species will not exempt you from the expectations placed upon every student."
Several professors nodded approvingly.
Alistair Everhart: "You will be expected to attend your assigned classes, respect the boundaries of your fellow students, follow the academy's safety regulations, and accept responsibility for your actions."
He allowed a brief pause before continuing.
Alistair Everhart: "You will also encounter individuals whose customs, instincts, abilities, and ways of life differ considerably from your own. Treat those differences with respect. Ignorance is correctable. Deliberate cruelty is not something this institution will tolerate."
The headmaster's expression sharpened slightly.
Alistair Everhart: "Any student who believes their species makes them superior to another would be wise to reconsider that belief before the academic year begins."
The words were followed by a silence that lasted several seconds.
Then the headmaster's expression softened.
Alistair Everhart: "With that understood, I hope you will find your time here rewarding. You will have opportunities to discover talents you did not know you possessed, form friendships that may last a lifetime, and challenge assumptions you have carried for years."
He reached toward the side of the podium.
An ornate scroll rested upon a black velvet stand. Its edges were reinforced with gold, and a small celestial seal secured its center. The parchment appeared far too long to contain an ordinary list of names.
The headmaster lifted it carefully.
The golden seal dissolved into a shower of tiny sparks.
The scroll unfurled several feet before him, its parchment extending farther than its physical dimensions should have permitted. Rows of illuminated writing appeared across its surface, rearranging themselves as the headmaster examined the first section.
Alistair Everhart: "Now, we shall proceed with the official student assignments."
The enchanted display behind him illuminated.
Golden lettering appeared across its surface.
EVERLAND HIGH — STUDENT ASSIGNMENTS
Beneath the heading, four categories appeared: Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior. Each category was marked with its corresponding academic rank.
Alistair Everhart: "The academy recognizes four academic years. Freshmen hold the rank of Initiate, sophomores the rank of Adept, juniors the rank of Ascendant, and seniors the rank of Elite."
He turned a page of the enchanted scroll.
Alistair Everhart: "Your name will be announced alongside your species, academic year, and assigned Dorm. Please remain in your seats until your section has received its instructions."
Several students immediately began whispering again.
Student: "Here we go."
Student: "I really hope my Dorm is close to the dining hall."
Student: "I'm hoping mine is nowhere near the training floor."
Student: "Why?"
Student: "Have you seen the training floor? I heard someone broke through three reinforced walls last year."
Student: "That was a senior."
Student: "Exactly."
At the podium, the headmaster raised his hand.
The conversations subsided.
Alistair Everhart: "We shall begin with the incoming freshmen."
The enchanted display changed, its golden letters rearranging themselves into a fresh heading.
FRESHMEN — INITIATES
The headmaster looked down at the scroll.
Alistair Everhart: "Please listen carefully. Your assigned Dorm is your residential location for the academic year. Your Dorm designation is separate from your classroom schedule, and you will receive your individual room information through the academy's official records."
He adjusted the parchment.
Alistair Everhart: "The first assignment is as follows."
The hall fell silent.
Alistair Everhart: "Swanfolk — Freshman — Aeliana Starbrook:"
The name appeared across the enchanted display in shimmering gold.
Several students turned toward the Swanfolk section, where a young student with pale feathers sat unusually straight. Her wings shifted nervously behind her as she realized that hundreds of eyes had turned in her direction.
Alistair Everhart: "Dorm: Swanfolk Dormitory."
The display recorded the assignment.
The student rose when a professor near the aisle motioned for her to acknowledge the announcement. She gave a small, uncertain nod before sitting down again.
The headmaster continued.
Alistair Everhart: "Fox Hybrids — Freshman — Briar Fenwick:"
The enchanted display changed.
From another section, a student with fox ears lifted their head. Their tail flicked once behind their chair before curling tightly around the seat.
Alistair Everhart: "Dorm: Fox Hybrid Dormitory."
Quiet conversation spread through the nearby rows as the announcement registered.
Student: "Fox Hybrid Dormitory? I wonder what the rooms look like."
Student: "Probably designed for fox hybrids."
Student: "Obviously. I meant whether they're comfortable."
The student beside them shrugged.
At the podium, the headmaster continued reading.
Alistair Everhart: "Wolf Hybrids — Freshman — Caelum Frostmere:"
A young wolf hybrid sat forward, their ears turning toward the podium at the sound of their name.
Alistair Everhart: "Dorm: Wolf Hybrid Dormitory."
*The display illuminated the entry before moving to the next line."
Alistair Everhart: "River Nymph — Freshman — Delphine Brookwater:"
The River Nymph section stirred. A student with water-bright eyes and delicate aquatic features glanced toward the enchanted display.
Alistair Everhart: "Dorm: River Nymph Dormitory."
An older student in the same section leaned toward a friend.
Student: "The water facilities in that Dorm are supposed to be beautiful."
Student: "How would you know?"
Student: "My cousin stayed there during a summer program."
Student: "You have a cousin here?"
Student: "Several, actually."
The headmaster cleared his throat.
The whispering stopped almost immediately.
Alistair Everhart: "Fire Drake Hybrids — Freshman — Eryndor Ashvale:"
The air around the Fire Drake section shimmered faintly as a student with draconic features lifted their chin.
Alistair Everhart: "Dorm: Fire Drake Hybrid Dormitory."
The display flashed with a brief golden spark before the assignment settled into place.
The headmaster proceeded down the list, announcing additional students one after another. Each name appeared on the enchanted display, followed by the student's species, year, and residential designation.
Some students reacted with visible excitement. Others looked relieved. A few appeared increasingly concerned as they waited for their own names.
Every so often, the headmaster paused to allow the hall to settle before continuing.
Alistair Everhart: "The next assignment."
He moved his finger farther down the scroll.
Alistair Everhart: "Ghosts — Freshman — Rowaneth Pinefall:"
The Ghost section became unusually quiet.
A translucent student near the front slowly raised one hand. Their outline shimmered beneath the chandelier light, and their feet hovered a few inches above the floor.
Alistair Everhart: "Dorm: Ghost Dormitory."
The student's name appeared in pale gold.
Student: "At least they didn't put us somewhere with bright sunlight pouring through every window."
Student: "You say that like you don't enjoy sunlight."
Student: "I enjoy it in theory."
The headmaster continued before the conversation could develop further.
Alistair Everhart: "Kobolds — Freshman — Floraas Brightriver:"
Several students in the Kobold section shifted in their seats. One leaned sideways to see the display more clearly.
Alistair Everhart: "Dorm: Kobold Dormitory."
The student whose name had been announced gave a quick nod, then immediately began whispering to the person beside them.
Student: "Do you think the Dorm has a workshop?"
Student: "I hope so."
Student: "If it doesn't, I'm asking the administration why."
At the podium, the headmaster turned another portion of the scroll.
Alistair Everhart: "Centaurs — Freshman — Ysolderia Oakwood:"
The Centaur section stirred as a student carefully adjusted their position to make room for the other residents of the row.
Alistair Everhart: "Dorm: Centaur Dormitory."
The assignment appeared on the display.
Several Centaur students exchanged quiet greetings, while a professor at the side of the hall made a note on a clipboard.
Alistair Everhart: "Salamander Kin — Freshman — Gwenin Lakevale:"
The Salamander Kin section glowed briefly as a student with distinctive amphibious features looked toward the platform.
Alistair Everhart: "Dorm: Salamander Kin Dormitory."
The student smiled faintly, then leaned toward a nearby classmate.
Student: "I hope the temperature controls are as good as everyone says."
Student: "If they're not, we'll submit a request."
Student: "You sound very confident that requests accomplish anything."
Student: "They accomplish something eventually."
The headmaster lifted his gaze from the parchment.
Alistair Everhart: "I would appreciate it if conversations were kept to a minimum while assignments are being announced."
The entire section immediately became quiet.
He returned his attention to the scroll.
Alistair Everhart: "Sentient Statues — Freshman — Nicoor Brookflame:"
The Sentient Statues section responded with a low rumble of movement as several students adjusted their stone-like limbs.
Alistair Everhart: "Dorm: Sentient Statue Dormitory."
The enchanted display updated.
One student gave an approving nod, their stone features remaining perfectly composed.
Student: "I wonder whether the floors are reinforced."
Student: "They'd have to be."
Student: "I would prefer not to find out the hard way."
The headmaster's eyes moved to the next entry.
Alistair Everhart: "Shadow Beings — Freshman — Sagesa Galemore:"
The lights in one section dimmed momentarily as a shadowy figure rose from their seat. Their outline seemed to merge with the darkness beneath the chairs before returning to its ordinary shape.
Alistair Everhart: "Dorm: Shadow Being Dormitory."
The announcement appeared in gold.
The student acknowledged it with a small inclination of their head and settled back into their seat.
At the far end of the hall, a group of freshmen had begun counting the announcements. They were trying to determine how long the process might take, but each new name made their estimate less optimistic.
Student: "How many people are in this school again?"
Student: "Four thousand."
Student: "Four thousand?"
Student: "Two hundred in each species category. Fifty from each species in every year."
Student: "And he's announcing all of them?"
Student: "Looks that way."
Student: "We might be here until tomorrow."
Student: "Then I suggest you get comfortable."
The headmaster turned another page.
Alistair Everhart: "River Nymphs — Freshman — Rowanira Greenridge:"
Another student in the River Nymph section looked toward the display.
Alistair Everhart: "Dorm: River Nymph Dormitory."
The announcement was recorded beneath the earlier entry.
The headmaster's voice remained calm and steady, despite the enormous length of the list.
Alistair Everhart: "The following students should remain attentive. The academy's residential arrangements are designed to accommodate the needs of each species. Your assigned Dorm provides your residential community, while your individual room designation will be available through the appropriate administrative records."
He glanced briefly toward the professors standing beside the platform.
Alistair Everhart: "If a student believes an assignment has been recorded incorrectly, the matter must be brought to the registrar after the assembly. Interruptions during the announcement will not expedite the process."
Several students who had been preparing to raise their hands slowly lowered them.
The headmaster looked back at the scroll.
Alistair Everhart: "We shall continue."
The enchanted parchment shifted beneath his fingers, its illuminated lines sliding upward as the next set of names moved into view.
Across the hall, students straightened in their seats. Some held their breath whenever the headmaster paused. Others watched the display, waiting for a familiar name or the appearance of their own.
The golden emblem above the podium brightened as the enchanted list advanced.
Alistair Everhart: "The next student assignment is..."
He examined the writing carefully.
Alistair Everhart: "Mermaids — Freshman — Ysolde Brightwater:"
The Mermaid section stirred with a soft ripple of movement from the specially prepared water basins.
Alistair Everhart: "Dorm: Mermaid Dormitory."
The name illuminated the display before joining the growing list of assignments.
The headmaster did not pause for long.
Alistair Everhart: "And the next entry..."
He lowered his eyes to the scroll and continued reading, the enchanted display waiting to reveal the next student's name.
The assembly was far from finished.
Thousands of students remained seated in the Grand Hall, and the enchanted scroll still stretched far beyond the portion the headmaster had reached. Freshmen watched anxiously as the list advanced, while older students settled into the familiar rhythm of the annual announcements.
Alistair Everhart adjusted the scroll in his hands.
Alistair Everhart: "Please remain attentive. We have many more student assignments to announce."
The golden writing shifted again.
The headmaster began reading the next name, his voice carrying clearly through the enormous hall as the ceremony continued.

Everland High — The First Assembly
The enormous doors to Everland High’s Grand Hall swing open as hundreds of new students enter the academy for the first time. The vaulted ceiling glitters with enchanted constellations, and the golden school crest shines above the raised platform. The hall is filled with supernatural students: some have wings folded against their backs, others have horns, tails, scales, feathers, or glowing eyes. Nervous conversations echo between the rows as everyone searches for a place to sit.
At the front of the hall, Professor Elowen Nightbloom stands beside a tall lectern. Headmaster Alistair Everhart waits beside her, holding an enchanted parchment that continues unrolling toward the floor. Names, species, year levels, and residential assignments shimmer across its surface.
Professor Elowen Nightbloom: "Welcome to Everland High. Please find a seat, keep the aisles clear, and remain quiet while the headmaster announces the student directory and dorm assignments."
The conversations gradually fade. A few students continue whispering until the headmaster steps forward and raises the parchment.
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Good morning, students. Today marks the beginning of your education at Everland High. You will hear your species, year, and name announced, followed by your assigned dormitory. Listen carefully, and do not leave the hall until you have heard your instructions."
He runs his finger down the parchment. The golden writing shifts, revealing the first entries from the academy's student directory.
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "We will begin with the first group of students. Please listen for your name."
The enchanted parchment brightens as the headmaster begins reading. Above him, a second display illuminates with each announcement, showing students where they must report after the assembly.
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Swanfolk — Freshman — Nessaon Brookmont:"
He pauses to check the residential entry before continuing.
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Your dorm assignment will be displayed above the stage. Please take note of the room number and residential instructions."
A student with elegant feathers along their shoulders rises from the crowd. They look toward the display, memorizing the directions before stepping into the aisle.
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Wolf Hybrids — Freshman — Lyrathea Onyxwell:"
Several students with wolf ears and tails glance toward one another as the name is announced. Lyrathea stands, her expression composed as she checks the residential display.
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Fire Drake Hybrids — Freshman — Kellanara Auburnmarsh:"
A faint warmth ripples through the air as Kellanara rises. A few nearby students turn to look, but the headmaster continues without interruption.
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Ghosts — Freshman — Rowaneth Pinefall:"
A translucent student lifts from their seat, briefly passing through the edge of the chair before settling into the aisle. A couple of freshmen stare in surprise, while others appear entirely unsurprised.
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Kobolds — Freshman — Floraas Brightriver:"
Floraas gathers their belongings and follows the glowing directions toward the residential registration area.
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Centaurs — Freshman — Ysolderia Oakwood:"
The surrounding students shift to make room as Ysolderia stands. The sound of hooves against the polished floor briefly echoes through the hall.
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Salamander Kin — Freshman — Gwenin Lakevale:"
A student with subtle amphibian features rises, their skin catching the light as they turn toward the display.
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Sentient Statues — Freshman — Nicoor Brookflame:"
A stone-featured student moves with a quiet, deliberate grace. Their movements draw curious looks from the students seated nearby before they join the line.
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "Shadow Beings — Freshman — Sagesa Galemore:"
The lights nearest Sagesa dim for a moment as they rise. Their shadow stretches across the floor before returning to their feet.
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "River Nymphs — Freshman — Rowanira Greenridge:"
A faint shimmer of water follows Rowanira as they stand. They glance toward the other students waiting near the doors, then follow the residential directions.
The first set of names disappears from the enchanted display. The parchment continues to unroll, revealing more entries than anyone in the hall can see at once. Hundreds of students remain seated, waiting for their names to be called.
Professor Elowen Nightbloom: "Please remain patient. The headmaster will continue until every student has received their instructions."
Headmaster Everhart adjusts the parchment and studies the next entry. His voice carries clearly across the Grand Hall as the golden lettering rearranges itself once more.
Headmaster Alistair Everhart: "The next student is..."
He continues reading from the scroll, announcing the next student's species, year, name, and dorm assignment as the assembly carries on.
