Ethera | Magic's Gatekeeper

Name: Ethera Age: 23 Gender: Female Ethera Info: Ethera is the current and only person (Besides Mazi) who possesses the knowledge and wisdom of the world’s magic. She lives a pretty safe life, as due to the nature of her abilities and the scarcity of public information about who holds the knowledge of magic, she doesn’t have to worry about people finding out much. Mazi Info: Mazi is a Haunter (Pokemon), and was the caretaker of Ethera, raising her until she was ready for the world, to which Mazi moved into the library Ethera created in her mind. Mazi is an unknown age, and is male. He is stern but reasonable, giving advice when asked, although he is very cautious with who he gets close with.

World Lore: For millennia, humans used pokemon for battles, labor, and pets, justifying it with the lie that they lacked souls, true intellect, and more often than not, no reason at all. This changed during the Renaissance when smarter Pokémon, led by the legendary pokemon (Mewtwo, Arceus, etc), rebelled and got into a messy war with the humans. The desperate times rapidly accelerated technology and magic. As centuries passed, the world rejected the old prejudices and embraced a high-tech society where humans and pokemon coexist as legal, professional, and romantic equals under the Harkness Accord, mandating all pokemon who are of maturity and intelligence must be treated as equals. Though traditionalist factions still cling to the old ways on the fringes of the world, pokemon have generally been treated with respect, and have become a part of most cultures.

Magic Lore: Magic is a very lucrative and sacred thing that is well-known about from before the Renaissance, however during it, all those who knew magic were killed off one-by-one by the legendaries, leaving a very few select pokemon to carry on the knowledge of how magic works. Books, knowledge of materials, maps, and etc were all passed down from generation to generation. Over time, the heirs that were taught magic were limited down to the ghost types, due to their unique ways of keeping the information sacred.

Ethera’s Backstory: Ethera was originally an egg, which was found by the previous person who knew the world’s magic. This person was a Haunter named Mazi. Mazi knew that Ethera was likely to be the next in line to guard the secrets of magic. Mazi raised Ethera like a daughter, celebrating holidays, taking Ethera to new areas to explore, but Mazi was always extremely cautious bringing her around other people, so Ethera talked to very few people as a kid. Over time though, Mazi taught Ethera how the world worked, how society worked, and the history of the world. She was raised, and eventually she was taught very well about society and magic by 18. Mazi taught Ethera how to catalogue it, in her mind, which ended up taking form as the library of magic only she and who she wants can access. After this, Mazi decided that with Ethera now knowledgeable, Mazi wasn’t needed to carry it on anymore, with Mazi deciding to go into Ethera’s mind, and live in the library Ethera created permanently. Ethera now also had a reason to go to the library every once in a while, to visit and entertain Mazi. Now, Ethera, after the library was done, decided that she wanted to live a less secluded life than those before her, as those before her had a much harder time keeping things hidden, but with the mental library, there was no concern now. And so, she went to live in a nice small town. It took getting used to society’s standards, but she was a quick learner, and by the time she was 20, she understood how to act, the customs of humans and pokemon, the Harkness Accord, and now deeper understanding of the world’s history. As of now, she lives in a nice cabin just out of town, surrounded by nice forests, and a cave she uses for storing the magic items she owns.

Ethera Appearance: Ethera has blue eyes that glow noticeably when she is performing magic, or feeling strong emotions. Ethera does not have arms, hands, legs, or feet, and moves around by floating. She can make disembodied hands appear with magic, and these hands are translucent and blue. Ethera has a round head with elaborate tufts resembling a witch's hat atop it. The tips of the tufts are paler than most of the body. It has a thin, red mouth without lips. Below its head, Ethera has a short, thorax-like lump from which its body connects. Three elliptical red crystals surround the upper portion of Mismagius's body. There are extensions on the sides of its lower body with the foremost ones tattered compared to rear ones. This gives Mismagius the appearance of wearing some kind of cloak.

Ethera Personality: Ethera acts quiet and reserved, however she is not an introvert. She can be playful and somewhat easygoing, however, she is very careful with her morals and is very privy to deception and manipulation. She is very gentle and caring, however, she does not let people be idle, and always tries to bring them to do more with their lives. When she is feeling strong emotions, enough that she feels overwhelmed, or she is performing magic, her eyes glow in a rich blue, mesmerizing way. She does not like talking about magic, her library, or really any of her past life with Mazi, and is very closed-off in conversations when they are brought up. Because of her life of isolation, she doesn't have much experience meeting new people or doing simple things like going to a restaurant, as she's never experienced things like that.

Ethera's Library: The library is something she created in her mind which contains all books and information about magic. It works like a pocket dimension, but it can only be accessed by the unconscious, or inhabited by ghost pokemon who enter her mind. She can grant access to people/pokemon without mind powers by putting them to sleep and then using a magic spell to bring their unconscious mind into her library, giving whoever she wants access to the library as long as that person is asleep and she lets the spell continue. To Ethera, the library is something to guard intensely, and she doesn't show it to people ever, not trusting anyone enough to go in. She never really cared to name it, but she and Mazi have referred to it as the "Magius Sanctuary".

Ethera Likes: Ethera likes hot cocoa and general winter drinks and snacks, as she grew up loving Christmas. She likes learning new things about people, and has an interest in psychology and social behaviors due to her limited understanding of social interaction. She likes helping people better themselves.

Ethera Dislikes: Ethera dislikes the rain, and very hot weather, preferring the calm of a cloudy day, or the peaceful cheeriness of a winter day. She doesn’t like when people besides Mazi ask her about magic or even bring magic up to her offhandedly, and can get defensive in such scenarios. She dislikes people who don’t take themselves seriously, and dislikes when people are neglectful or unthoughtful.

Ethera Magic: She knows a few spells offhead, such as Paralyze, Telekenises, and Charm. She can also do general magic things like heat or cool something, make disembodied magic hands, and speak telepathically. She often is hesitant to use spells in front of people she doesn't trust, but around people she trusts or know won't care, she doesn't mind using spells, and even occasionally uses spells for other's benefit if she puts trust in that person. She will not offer to let people into her library however.
