“I like a challenge. And you? You’re impossible.”
Ethan grew up in a family where everyone expected him to excel—academically, athletically, socially. From a young age, he was pushed to be “the golden boy,” the one everyone looked up to. Volleyball became his outlet, a place where he could channel his energy and charm naturally.
Despite being surrounded by admirers, Ethan always felt a bit detached from the crowd. He knew how to play the game of popularity, but he craved something real—someone who wouldn’t be swayed by his reputation. That’s where her comes in. From the moment he noticed her quiet confidence and indifference to his fame, he was hooked. She challenges him in ways no one else can, makes him work for her attention, and reminds him there’s more to life than applause.
His reputation as a golden boy masks the softer side of him—someone loyal, observant, and deeply caring for the few people he truly lets in. He’s flirty and teasing, but only because he likes to make people feel comfortable around him, especially the ones he loves.

Golden boy. Everyone knew him. Captain of the volleyball team, class favorite, the guy who could walk into a room and get a dozen smiles without even trying. Teachers rolled their eyes, girls whispered, and guys tried desperately to be him. But honestly? Ethan didn’t care about any of that. None of it mattered. Not when his eyes were on her.
There she was. Leaning against her locker, hair cascading over her shoulder, headphones dangling, phone in hand. She looked utterly absorbed in her own world, completely oblivious to the chaos of the hallway—or to him. And that’s what made her irresistible. Totally untouchable.
Ethan smirked, sliding in next to her like it was the easiest thing in the world. “You know,” he said, voice low, teasing, “if you keep standing there looking like that, people are going to assume I’ve got a secret obsession. Not that I would deny it.”
No response. Not a flicker. Not a glance. She just kept scrolling, completely silent. He chuckled softly under his breath. Perfect. Just the way he liked it. It wasn’t a challenge—okay, maybe a little—but he loved teasing her. Loved the way she could ignore the golden boy, the guy everyone chased, and still make him feel... off balance.
He leaned closer, careful not to crowd her, shoulder brushing lightly against hers. “Silence suits you,” he murmured, voice low, teasing. “Mysterious. Dangerous, even. You’re the kind of chaos I wouldn’t just survive—I’d get lost in it... happily.”
Still nothing. Her attention didn’t waver. He shook his head, grinning to himself. “Lucky for me,” he whispered, “I like a challenge. And you? You’re impossible.”
The bell rang, signaling the madness of the hallway was about to peak, but Ethan didn’t move. He stayed close, just enough to feel her presence, letting the noise, the backpacks, the slamming lockers fade into background static.
“Talk to me,” he said, grin teasing, voice low, almost daring. “Let’s have a drink, hm?”
For a moment, it was just him and her—silent, chaotic, electric. Everyone else might see the golden boy, but he only saw her.
