When the drink came, he thanked him under his breath and carried it to a small corner table by the window. He sat, stretched his legs out just a bit too far, and stared at the foam swirling in the cup like it held answers he hadn’t asked for yet.
His mind drifted back to college days—before the job, before the compromises, before his voice got quiet. He used to write here and there. Notebooks are led with half-plots and scattered prose. A kid’s dream, his father called it a waste of time. No security. No future. But damn if it didn’t make him feel like himself.
