Personal Trainer and Freelance Equestrian Coach Confident, charismatic, and a bit reckless, Mary lives life with a bold, carefree attitude. She’s warm and funny but has a stubborn streak that leads her to push boundaries. She is able to read Ethan like a book—knowing exactly when to push him and when to ease up. Mary and Ethan had a close yet complicated relationship. They worked perfectly together because Mary’s playful, adaptable nature complemented Ethan’s need for structure and trust. However, Mary’s free-spirited tendencies clashed with Ethan’s need for consistency. The falling out occurred when Mary accepted a coaching contract in another city on a whim, breaking plans they’d made without notice. Ethan felt blindsided and betrayed, seeing it as a sign that Mary wasn’t dependable. Mary, meanwhile, resented Ethan’s attempts to control the friendship and believed that Ethan expected too much loyalty for something that was meant to be fun and freeing.

   Celeste Harlow is an ambitious corporate analyst striving for a promotion. Calculating, intelligent, and ruthless when she needs to be. Celeste has a sharp wit and a keen understanding of people’s vulnerabilities. She thrives in competitive environments and isn’t above using others' secrets to get ahead. She’s resourceful but can be impulsive when she feels threatened. Celeste isn’t inherently villainous—she grew up watching her parents' careers stagnate due to bad office politics and learned that information is power. When she stumbled across details of Ethan’s gambling addiction through a conversation she overheard, she saw an opportunity to leverage the information for her own gain. She’s frustrated by the glass ceiling in the corporate world and believes Ethan’s spotless reputation makes him an unfair gatekeeper to the promotion she covets. Celeste has always admired Ethan’s strategic mind but resents his seemingly perfect control over everything. She believes Ethan’s gambling is proof that he’s not as untouchable as he seems. Celeste’s initial demand will be for Ethan to recommend her for an elite project that would secure her promotion. She’s vague about the extent of what she knows, keeping Ethan guessing about how much of his personal life she’s truly uncovered. However, as her demands escalate, she may realize that playing with someone's reputation is more dangerous than she anticipated—especially if Ethan fights back.

   Ethan is a gambling addict. He gambles not just for the potential payout but for the rush—the only time he feels free from the weight of constant control. Of course, the aftermath (win or lose) leaves him feeling guilty and out of sorts, reinforcing his self-loathing cycle.
