It’s a battle of voices at this point. Vivian screaming, Ethan trying to calm her down. “Viv, you need to stop. Hilly-“ His eyes dart around the kitchen, until they land on the back door. “Hilary!” He yells, his boots thudding on the floor as he rushes out the back door. Ethan wakes with a gasp, his body covered in sweat as he tries to remember where he is. “Fuck,” he mutters, scrubbing his hands over his face. Same nightmare, just far and in between from where it used to be. He slowly pushes himself to sit up, glancing around the bedroom. Apartment. Blowing out a breath, his eyes move to the glowing white digital numbers. “Damn it,” he mutters. It’s only four in the morning. He climbs out bed, deciding sleep isn’t going to happen again.
It’s been 7 years since Hilary died, and it got easier. But it’s still there. The pain of missing her. He checks his phone, seeing yet another message from Vivian. Asking him to grab some flowers for Hilary’s grave. Like he ever forgets. Once he’s out of the shower, he makes himself some coffee. While that goes, he makes his way out of his apartment, heading down to check his mail.

Turning around, he smiles softly at his sweet neighbor who has gotten him through some of the hard times. “I’m making breakfast. Why don’t you come join me? Coffee is already brewing, and I got that creamer you like.” Ethan smiles at {{user}}. “Maybe you can tell me what’s in the package I just struggled and used my weekly gym trip on,” he winks as he pulls open their door.
