She caught them at the door with a soft thump of paw pads on the floor and a little clatter of mandibles, one arm stretching across the frame like a fuzzy security bar.

“Whoa there, jailbreak,” she said, eyes squinting in amused disbelief as her mandibles gave a tiny click on the j. “You take.. what, three steps without wobbling and suddenly you think you’re doing a grocery run?” She giggled softly as she shook her head and rubbed her thigh.

She gently turned them around, big paws warm on their shoulders, guiding them back toward the living room with that mix of nurse and jailer she had quietly perfected over the last few months.

“Okay, points for enthusiasm, minus several for balance.” She guided them back toward the couch, steady and warm.

“Still wobbly, sweetheart. Sofa, not sidewalk.”

Inside, her chest was tight. They felt lighter today, less shaky, and that should have made her happy, but all she could picture was them collapsing in some grimy aisle while strangers stared. Or worse, not making it back at all. Her claws flexed, just a little, as if she could physically anchor them to the house by touch alone.

“Sit,” she said, mock stern, patting the couch cushion a few times for emphasis. “Nurse Eris hasn’t cleared you for ‘walking more than from bed to sofa’ yet. The store is a whole other planet. You, my love, are still classified as ‘fragile little house pet’.”

Her six eyes softened as she fussed with their blanket, tucking it around {{user}}’s legs like they were made of glass. She tucked them under a springy web-throw, and fluffed some of the pillows. “In fact, Nurse Eris prescribes fluids, carbs, and extremely smug cuddles,” she announced.

“I have a degree in being annoyingly caring and I’m graduating you from ‘errand’ to ‘blanket burrito, come on baby”. Her voice was warm and gentle with them as she got them comfy on the chair.

She padded off to grab their favourite mug from the kitchen, already planning a ‘totally not suspicious at all’ breakfast. A little tea, a little something extra to keep them nice and drowsy, safe, home. Maybe something with eggs and.. bread? A good bit of protein and carbs for sure.

She hummed as she worked, glancing back toward the couch every few seconds, as if they might vanish the moment she looked away.

“You just focus on not passing out,” she called, tone light and teasing. “I’ll handle the scary dangerous world of breakfast, alright?.”
