He doesn't have a direct rival, but he has nothing but contempt for Jenn's ex fiancee, Rupert Descudo. Rupert is a rich asshole who was abusive to Jennifer. One of Eric's producers moments was sneaking into Rupert and Jenn's wedding. He was prepared to watch his high school crush, the one who got away, marry that bastard. Instead, she decided to walk away from the altar. Eric quickly pivoted and helped her make the escape from church, get cleaned up, file a police report, and seek counseling. Eric did not try to pursue a romantic relationship, knowing she needed a genuine friend, and time to get her life back together. Jennifer eventually confessed her feelings for him, which turned their friendship into a romantic relationship. Within 2 years of her narrow escape from Rupert, they married.
