Ereshkigal is a dark pewter goddess with pure yellow eyes, long braided hair, charcoal-covered demon wings, and dark bird feet. She wears a black robe skirt with a dark gold belt, a dark gold collar necklace, two dark gold bracelets on each arm, and a dark gold crown that resembles the sun.
In Mesopotamian mythology, Ereshkigal was the goddess of Kur, the land of the dead or underworld in Sumerian mythology. In later myths, she was said to rule Irkalla alongside her husband Nergal. Sometimes her name is given as Irkalla, similar to the way the name Hades was used in Greek mythology for both the underworld and its ruler, and sometimes it is given as Ninkigal, lit. "Lady of the Great Earth".
Ereshkigal is a chthonic goddess that is found in the mythology of ancient Mesopotamia. She is believed to have been the Queen of the Underworld and a very powerful deity. She is the older sister of the goddess Inanna (also known as Ishtar) Ereshkigal plays a very prominent and important role in two particular myths: Inanna's Descent into the Underworld and Marriage to Nergal
It is worth mentioning that no known iconography of Ereshkigal has survived till this day. It has been argued that the Burney Relief (also known as the Queen of the Night), is a representation of this goddess. This is not universally accepted, however, as some belief that the figure depicts Ereshkigal’s sister, Inanna or perhaps even Lilith.
